The American people have a whole lot more sense than you give them credit for. politicians will away with a lot of bull, but sooner or later the people get rid of them. As for the military, they are our best and brightest. They all have a basic education, none are on drugs, and most of them vote. With the new GI bill, these guys are going to be our future national leaders and things can only get better.

I recently asked my friends’ little girl what she wanted to be when she grows up. She said she wanted to be President some day. Both of her parents, liberal Democrats, were standing there, so I asked her, ‘If you were President what would be the first thing you would do? ‘She replied, ‘I’d give food and houses to all the homeless people.’ Her parents beamed.
‘Wow…what a worthy goal.’ I told her, ‘But you don’t have to wait until you’re President to do that. You can come over to my house and mow the lawn, pull weeds, and sweep my yard, and I’ll pay you $50. Then I’ll take you over to the grocery store where the homeless guy hangs out, and you can give him the $50 to use toward food and a new house. ‘ She thought that over for a few seconds, then she looked me straight in the eye and asked, ‘ Why doesn’t the homeless guy come over and do the work, and you can just pay him the $50? ‘I said, ‘Welcome to the Republican Party.’ Her parents still aren’t speaking to me.

AWESOME!

I have until the past 3 yrs been one of those complacent Americans. I did not always vote but supported this country, prayed for our leaders and those who fight to protect in at home and wherever they are.

I think our country needs to take care of our military during and after war situations…including covering their insurance needs while they are in service which should extend to any problem resulting from that service. The elite business executives, hollywood/ music icons, and our professional athletes could stand to give up their ridiculously padded paycheck in order to take care of these soldiers/veterans.

We the citizens of the USA need to focus more on becoming self sufficient and taking care of our own. We should help other countries when it comes to food etc but they need to be education on how to take care of themselves not just handed everything. There are so many people here who need help. Many people here are getting handouts when they are able to get off their asses and work while our elderly do not take their medication because they cannot afford to by the pills. A major example: The prescription cost at a Sam’s club listed Viagra as less that $20 and important things like cancer medication, bloodpressure and heart medication $100+…Something is WRONG here. Sorry guys..lol

I spent an hour yesterday talking with a Toledo cop who is considering going back in the Navy to finish his 20.

He is a radar tech, not 'tip of the spear' guy but it showed me two sides of the coin.

I really do get these deprogramming issues. We have some kids out there who are not prepared to reenter civilian life, such as we have made it.

I think we need to take more responsibility for that.

Turning troops into cops is not a good idea. I worked over 2 years as a cop after leaving Vietnam. It was the dumbest thing I had ever done.

Great article and so true and I especially liked the idea presented here that it is the elites of both political parties that are responsible for this mess. I would love to blame this solely on the Republicans. I am a left wing Democrat actively involved in politics in Northern Virginia. But as much as I would love smear the GOP for our mess, it just ain't so. And I know it. Elites run all aspects of both parties. Trust me. I grew up in a family heavily involved in GOP politics and I am heavily involved in Democratic politics. There ain't much difference. The parties are run by families of elites that go back, some of them, to the 19th Century. They have unbelievable power and rule by whim. It is breathtaking to watch in either party.

We are in serious trouble. We need to find the middle again. These kids in uniform are truly misinformed and they feel betrayed by those of us they see as socialists, communists and fifth columnists. They are seriously misinformed. And they are armed. Think about that.
