Hello, I am a surviving "ex-spouse" of a veteran, and I was wondering if I qualify for this 'hidden' benefit. I applied for SSI and was turned down. I am 55 years old, single, and homeless with no where to turn. My partner of 8 years and I were recently evicted unfairly(long story). We basically live on his income which is very low income level (approx. 15,000) and I work occasionally doing housework. My ex-husband had gotten very ill about six months ago, and had no one to care for him, and asked me if I would help. Of course, I would...he is the father of my children and we were together for 15 years(married 10). Unfortunately, he passed
a few weeks after I arrived...I was not expecting that at all, and he was so ill, we
talked about changing his beneficiary info; but never had time to. He requested that I be entitled to certain things, in the presence of our 2 children(35 & 29), but nothing was documented. Long story short, my own children, decided that I be excluded, and I realized at that moment, WOW, people REALLY DO GET GREEDY! I don't care about the $$$ and material things, (a house included, 3 vehicles, a boat, etc) but I could sure use any kind of help that may be out there. Pleassssssssse help!
