Vice President Biden Announces Expansion of Pentagon Homeowners Assistance Program Under Recovery Act
SAN DIEGO, CA – Standing at the USS Ronald Reagan in San Diego today, with U.S. sailors and their families, Vice President Joe Biden today announced the Defense Department’s plan to temporarily expand its Homeowners Assistance Program (HAP), with $555 million in Recovery Act funds dedicated to helping military families and DoD civilians who recently sold their homes at a loss.
"The sacrifices military families make for our country – in terms of deployments, but also moving several times in their career – are immense," Vice President Biden said. "They often don’t get to choose when they move and may be forced to sell their homes when they don’t want to. The Department of Defense, with funds from the Recovery Act, is expanding its program to help its military families who have been forced to sell their homes at a loss.”
Several times during the average military career, Service members are ordered to change duty stations to meet the mission requirements for their respective branches of service. Duty calls on them to relocate their family and establish a new home as often as every two to three years.
The expanded program will assist families forced to relocate due to base closures or normal assignment rotations. But, the most important aspect is that priority access to the funds will go to survivors of those killed during deployment, and those who were wounded, ill or injured during deployment.
“I’d like to thank my good friend, Senator Tim Johnson, who has worked tirelessly on this issue. He is a champion for military families and working on innovative ways to improve their quality of life,” said Vice President Biden.
The announcement was made as part of the Vice President and Dr. Biden’s visit to Naval Base Coronado in San Diego. Following the announcement, the Vice President toured the base and met with Navy SEALS, while Dr. Biden met with local military spouses and community volunteer groups to discuss issues facing military families.

Dear Grace and Dennis,
This story breaks my heart. It is time for all US citizens to begin questioning the activities of the illegal corporation running this country in lieu of the intended Constitutional one. This man served this country well. I have no doubt that his bank has PMI on this house which means that they will get paid twice. Once by the PMI company and once at the auction of this house. Does this greed benefit the country? Absolutely not. It puts another innocent and honorable couple on the streets to benefit the banksters that have destroyed America.
I want someone to find out if corrupt elements of the CIA are counterfeiting US currency to cover their operations as the secret arm of the 4th Reich. When are we going to begin pushing for the arrest and trial of those that have stolen this country blind under the guise of public service?

I am a 100% total and permanent disabled vet (service connected). I have been denied loan modifications six times. In the interim, my cousin, who just inherited $5o,000 from his mother’s death, was allowed to modify both mortgages with the same mortgage company (Bank of America). The held his hand through the process and even told him exactly how much money he needed to qualify for the modification. He made this up by inventing a fake lease. I am a single, disabled woman and truly think that these people were given help because they were married and not disabled (he was unemployed). In fact, he was receiving unemployment, and until recently I thought you couldn’t get a modification if unemployed. Anyway, even with a HUD counselor recommending a modification, I was blown off for over six months. They did not pay their mortgage for eight months and I was threatened with foreclosure at four months. One has to ask why I was treated so disparately. The lenders get to pick and choose who they modify with absolutely no oversight. This is particularly true of the VA loans. We should have seen the corruption with the corporate bailout and realized that it was favoritism all the way. When are we going to get tired of being treated like second class citizens in the country that we protected while these fat cats sat on their fannies in their corporate offices?
