I have been denied loan modifications six times. In the interim, my cousin, who just inherited $5o,000 from his mother's death, was allowed to modify both mortgages with the same mortgage company (Bank of America). The held his hand through the process and even told him exactly how much money he needed to qualify for the modification. He made this up by inventing a fake lease. I am a single, disabled woman and truly think that these people were given help because they were married and not disabled (he was unemployed). In fact, he was receiving unemployment, and until recently I thought you couldn't get a modification if unemployed. Anyway, even with a HUD counselor recommending a modification, I was blown off for over six months. They did not pay their mortgage for eight months and I was threatened with foreclosure at four months. One has to ask why I was treated so disparately. The lenders get to pick and choose who they modify with absolutely no oversight. This is particularly true of the VA loans. We should have seen the corruption with the corporate bailout and realized that it was favoritism all the way. When are we going to get tired of being treated like second class citizens in the country that we protected while these fat cats sat on their fannies in their corporate offices?
