RACE AND MISUNDERSTANDING STILL AMERICA’S BIGGEST CHALLENGE

EXPLOITING RACE FOR POLITICAL GAIN IS OUR BIGGEST CRIME

Yesterday, the president was out of the country.  He made a brilliant and necessary comprehensive speech, for the first time in decades, telling the truth that only a black president with an Islamic father could tell.

He packaged it.  He layed it out.  He called Iraq a “war of choice” but he also talked to Islam as I know they will hear, with respect and straight talk.  He challenged Israel, a country used to manipulating America at will, but also a key ally and a real democracy.

He told the truth.  But today, his words are twisted, the lies begin.  When Bush traveled overseas, Republicans called it treason to criticize a president when he is overseas.  Now who is the traitor?  With an African American puppet fronting for the GOP, the KKK is being brought back in force as part of a militia and extremist movement that is genuinely unAmerican and anti-American.

We have an extremely popular president, popular here and the most popular worldwide in our history.  I don’t care if the man is green, much less black.  We need his influence.  If what he is saying is bull, he is saying it, obviously, FOR us, to help our country, help our troops and build a better world.

Why are so many American’s, and I hear from them daily, more concerned, though most don’t have the honesty and courage to admit it, that he is black?

For the first time in years, I saw an American president out there sounding like the leader of the entire world, full of strength and authority.  The message was clear, we are going to be a better nation than we were and expect others to look to us for that.

However, if you screw with us, we will hunt you down and get you, now, unlike before, with real moral authority, not with torture and phony arrests, but with serous intent.

I head someone say that if it is war, we fight to win, we no longer fight wars to steal oil or enrich military contractors.  Playing America for a chump because of our corruption and incompetence had become a game around the world.  We no longer “seem” as corrupt and incompetent.

We have a chance to be proud of what we have done and what we can do as a people working together.  The idea that a defeated and demoralized political party buried in scandal and failure would turn to racism, rebellion and dishonor to divide our country in the face of foreign enemies is unacceptable.

When the gloves come off, they may just come off here at home.

None of us are blind to racial and social problems.  None of us are blind to the fact that crime among some minorities is high.  However, any American that lives in the real America and is not hidden under a rock in a “meth/Oxy Contin” rural hellhole also knows that we live in a society that has changed.

My friends are white and black.  More of my friends are of Asian/Chinese background than anything else.

I have close friends from Nigeria, Mauritius and, heaven help us, even France.

I shop in African American neighborhoods where I am welcomed as a friend.  Our Hispanic and Arab communities in Detroit are a great addition to what was a dying city.

Things have changed.

Those who don’t know this, who live under rocks in the middle of nowhere talking guns and revolution, of race hate and murder need to know this is not American behavior.

The rest of us, a clear majority, have moved beyond this.

We are a nation of laws.  We are not perfect.  Detroit is still Detroit.

The only crimes I have been subjected to are the continual break-ins at my farm in rural Kentucky, in a county without a single African American living in it.  My mother carried a gun to protect herself from her white neighbors, and with real reason.

Her life was made a living hell by her southern, rural white neighbors, all on welfare, who preyed on the  elderly, the decent and the hard working.

Perhaps they really were racially superior to African Americans, those toothless meth addicts and criminals of our rural heartland.

I suspect it would be hard to prove.
