On This Day – from New York Times frontpage

The following quote is from the New York Times online frontpage section entitled ON THIS DAY:

"On July 30, 1945, the USS Indianapolis, which had just delivered key components of the Hiroshima atomic bomb to the Pacific island of Tinian, was torpedoed by a Japanese submarine. Only 316 out of 1,196 men survived the sinking and shark-infested waters. "

Most of these American sailors were eaten alive by sharks when they got into the water after the order to abandon ship had been given.  May they rest in peace.  The horrors that they faced in order to protect their country’s interests were beyond description.

  1. I read one of the books written on the sinking of the Indianapolis. there was great courage exhibited by the officers and crew. The captain got a royal screwing by the military justice system as the navy cout martialed him and flew the Japanese sub commander to the US to testify against him. Another prime example of covering your ass, if you have someone else to blame, dump the whole load on them. The captain was found guilty of some of the charges and later killed himself. hellva of a note when a man spends 30 years walking the straight and narrow and then gets bombed by political correctness and inside suckasses.

On this Day from todday edition NYTimes belongs to October 30 instead of November 3rd!!!!
