TOO MUCH TIME ON OUR HANDS: AMERICA'S ADDICTION TO FANTASY

By Gordon Duff STAFF WRITER

OK, a blanket statement of purpose to start:  Nothing said in newspapers and TV outside of reporting on highschool football is done for any reason except to misdirect Americans while a dozen or so "not so secret" organizations do things to us that would make a rat puke its guts out.

If you are thinking Illuminati or the Elders of Zion, they got you already.

I sometimes suspect our entire country is either clinically depressed, bipolar or hopped up on meth and oxy.  Actually, if one believes the American Psychiatric Association, this is actually true, especially for members of the American Psychiatric Association.  Why would we be depressed?  No other place on Earth has a population that looks to elected leaders as "Homeric" figures, not the Simpsons, that Greek writer who wrote about naked guys with big swords.

Any other country knows everyone elected to office has a mistress or rent boys, takes bribes, snorts cocaine and secretly, or not so secretly, thinks "regular people" are a joke.  Look at Italy.  Their president hires hookers by the busload.  In the military we learned that troops who didn’t complain continually about everything would never hold together in combat.  Every few years, Americans go into a funk over feeling betrayed by the delusional narcissists we vote for.  Isn’t it time to get a clue?

Bush is a liar and a thief.  Sarah Palin is secretly trailer trash.  Obama is a lawyer from Chicago, a compendium of all possible faults.  Bill Clinton is always going to be Bill Clinton.  Ronald Reagan read an entire presidency off cue cards.  How should this effect us?  Should anyone care?  Who the hell are these people anyway?

Americans live to be disappointed.  Maybe this makes us crazy.  We believe the liars then feel betrayed.  What if everyone was right?  What if Obama is from Kenya and is a right wing Fascist and left wing Socialist all at the same time?  What if Bush really had the World Trade Center blown up?  What if all of it is true?

If we are all crazy, how does this effect how we act?  There are two big risks to being totally nuts.  One is "self medication."  Folks use alcohol, drugs, religion or go totally delusional as a way of trying to stop feeling lost, alone and hopeless.

I forget the second one.  Perhaps the first one ate away that braincell.

Profiting from this is a way of life for almost a third of Americans.  Everyone is addicted to something, lottery tickets, pornography or watching sports and then babbling on about scores and statistics later.  This may be the worst thing of all.

What has made America a center of insanity is a massive welfare system that everyone is on in one way or another but everyone is in denial about.  I have seen statistics, I think maybe on Fox News, that only 3 people in America have real jobs and two of them are illegal aliens.

What we do have is millions of unemployed joining the tens of millions who work at home, pretend to work at home or are getting a check in the mail, disability, retirement, trust fund or are members of Congress.  This breeds too much talk show, TV news and blogger addition, and the slide down the fantasy slope.

While almost every American will admit that there is some kind of secret government running things, none of us can agree what it is.  Currently, we are split 60/35 between Communist Democrats and Nazi Republicans with 5% voting for Nazi Democrats.

Behind closed doors, it goes to a 70/30 split between Jews and the Vatican.  Bill Clinton is sticking with his vast right wing conspiracy while many others find that absurd, especially based on the educational level of most "conservatives."

One of my friends teaches "American Studies" in Britain.  Its his job to explain how we think based on what he sees on television.  I have invited him to come visit as soon as "drive by shooting" season is over.  I am sending him a membership application to join our local militia and instruction in how to tear down and clean an M-60 machine gun in the dark.

I have to go now, I have to get with my boys for a raid into Amish Country.  Weaponry is minimal but the Amish can be tough as anyone who has seen Harrison Ford in Witness can tell you.  The shunning alone can scare the beJesus out of you.

Excellent rant and a fun read.
    You make depression fun.

A must read for those for have never read it. I spoke with Kurt sometime around 1973 0r 75 while walking and hitch hiking through Conn. somewhere north of Bridgeport. I was sitting on an old wooden bench writing in my journal when he sat down and asked what I was writing about. I told him I was developing an essay on, “The Cycle of Planet Life”. He just smiled with a brightness in his eyes, stood up, and told me, “well don’t let me stop you”. and he simply walked off looking up at the sky. It wasn’t until a year or so later I discovered who that fine gentleman was visited me on that bench. The following link which I believe you must have read long ago was just science fiction but it definitely applies in this day and age as a non fiction essay.

Vonnegut signed a copy of Slaughterhouse 5 for me…maybe 70?  Melbourne, Fla.  Spent an afternoon chatting and breathing second hand smoke.

That was an excellent short story by Kurt Vonnegut. His book, and the 1972 film made from it, “Slaughterhouse Five” are a path to escape from PTSD that really exists. Of course, one needs to be very careful with whom one is dealing, and always have the best and most honorable of intentions, but if that’s freedom’s price, it’s quite reasonable. Do you know that Kurt’s son Mark beat schizophrenia with orthomolecular therapy and is now a psychiatrist himself? You may also like this.

for a week or so, i tried to learn what “orthomolecular” was. then i realized i am already married, so a witchdoctor is probably not in my immediate future.

  3. Herman King says:

Mostly right on, though I don’t like his comments about “trailer trash.” Sounds snobbish. If the economy continues to tank, more and more of us will be living in trailers.

    • duffster says:

      Herman,

You would probably be right if I didn’t live in toledo.  Trailer trash is considered a compliment here.

If there ever was someone to deserve the term, Palin is it.  As this is part of our language, albeit politically incorrect, I find it particularly appropriate when you blend every possible characteristic making up the negative sterotype and then put lipstick on the pig and parade her around the country trying to stink of moral superiority.

I keep remembering Sarah flying into toledo but being bussed out of town quickly to avoid protestors…so she could attend a "murder obama" rally in a town known for its kkk history.

i cannot even imagine living in a “fly over state”, and having this attitude. i have lived the lifestyle, worked the work. so far in the distance that i wonder what the hell i was thinking about. but raised the family and got this old in spite of myself. amen.

    • Subvet416 says:

You are correct Barrie, the institution of marriage can provide a man with all the the essential hormones and their precursors to enable optimum brain function, but as a wise man once joked “Who the Hell wants to live in an institution?”.

“In strict terms the original Star Fire was the lunar essence of the Goddess, but, even in an everyday mundane environment, menstruum contains the most valuable endocrinal secretions, especially those of the pineal and pituitary glands. The brain’s pineal gland in particular was directly associated with the Tree of Life, for this tiny gland was said to secrete the very essence of active longevity, called soma, or, as the Greeks called it, ambrosia.”

For most single men today, orthomolecular therapy offers a safer and more practical route to mental freedom than witchcraft or earning the red and black wings with the Hell’s Angels.

  4. DA White says:

I agree on the part about 3 people working for the government and 2 of them illegals. I along with millions of other people retired from the government and receive my money, direct deposit every month. I don’t see what the stink about government health care is, as most of the people that I know retired from one form or another of government service.

    • duffster says:

would sarah palin have the one or the two killed?  if was done, would she have god sort them out?  is god still taking orders from her?

      who would we ask?

      glenn beck?

  5. Brownshoe Sailor says:

Vonnegut and Pohl & Kornbluth (e.g., “The Space Merchants”, ca. 1954) planted the seeds that saved me from an Indiana Republican upbringing, where the local country barber had copies of “The Protocols of the Elders of Zion” in the magazine rack next to the John Birch magazine and Guns and Ammo. I did vote for Goldwater in ‘64, but eventually woke up. But the Marching Morons we always have with us. Just the other day on PBS they had Saxby Chambliss (the “bum knee” draft dodger whose 2002 Senate campaign linked Max Cleland with Osama and Saddam) appearing as a militaru policy talking head. I’d expect that crap from Faux, but then, PBS _IS_ sponsored by Chevron and the National Assoc. of Mfgrs, and the Mining Association, etc.

    • duffster says:

Absolutely fascinating post.  Kornbluth…"the marching morons"

I remember getting that for my dad when he was in the hospital, maybe 1957…heart attack from working in an auto plant.

The Max Cleeland issue…the boys who went after him are now called The League of AmeriKKKan Voters.

  6. Brittanicus says:

We are on the verge of a major breakthrough with the illegal immigration deterrent program E-Verify. Washington has extended E-Verify to the end of October, but that is not enough for the 10 million plus jobless American workers. The stamp of approval of E-Verify has been recognized by the hundreds of thousands, or perchance millions of citizens and legal employees whose innumerable numbers have been disenfranchised by illegal alien labor. An apparel firm was raided by ICE and 1800 workers who are illegal have been fired, unless they can be positively accepted as having the right legal status? Unbelievable! Now without further adieu, we must lambaste the politicians until they make E-Verify permanent? It should be placed on the peak list of interior enforcement tools, and everybody who gets a pay check should be verified as part of the legal workforce.

A huge number of suspected open border players, thought the courts would kill it as unconstitutional, or at least delay it? An amendment was presented by Sen. David Vitter that prevents any further delays in the implementation of the Social Security Administration’s No-Match-letter program. An amendment was also offered by Sen. Jeff Sessions that requires a permanent re-authorization of the application. The usual culprits tried to table the Sen. Sessions E-Verify amendment, but the motion failed and eventually passed. We have dubious decision makers in DC, who are not looking-out for the man/women in the street? This became very blatantly obvious in the stimulus bill, when no language omitted illegal workers from gaining at least 300.000 jobs in construction and other industries. The 247 G law is another successful police program, to identify illegal immigrants on the streets of our communities and highways. This law could be on the chopping block, as well as the ICE raids on pariah businesses. With modifications E-verify could detect illegal aliens applying for drivers licenses, car insurance, home mortgages, health care and much more? LET THE BLOODY EMPLOYERS WHO HAVE INSTIGATED THIS IMMIGRATION MESS–PAY FOR IT

Both California and Nevada’s lawmakers have a high percentage of illegal alien populace, so they are indebted not to enforce immigration laws. We as voters must transfer our frustration and anger to those who represent us at 202-224-3121. A continuous barrage of irate voters has upset the politician’s applecart in their offices, demanding change? You will only discover the true patriotic American politicians by going to and examining their immigration grades at NUMBERSUSA, JUDICIAL WATCH & for OVERPOPULATION statistics CAPSWEB. If we hesitate about these issues, all is lost, and the anti-sovereignty groups will take away our jobs, freedoms. If you really want to view the absolute appalling state our roads, bridges, dams and drinking water structure, watch “The Crumbling of America.” The History channel has been illuminating the complete and utter indifference, while we financially support the world, wars and illegal immigrants for the business community.

Hundreds of thousands of servicemen were exposed to asbestos over decades, especially during the period from 1940 to 1980. Asbestos was used in construction of naval vessels as well as shore facilities. All branches of the military used asbestos, which was also widely used in civilian applications. Asbestos can cause mesothelioma. Because this cancer has a particularly long latency period, many servicemen who were exposed years ago are now developing this disease. - Mesothelioma Patient & Family Resources: Mesotheliomahelp is provided by Belluck & Fox, LLP as a comprehensive resource for mesothelioma victims and their families.  The site provides up-to-date information on the latest news and treatment options as well as an easy to use search feature to find local mesothelioma doctors and health care clinics.  - We fight for veterans harmed by asbestos: Veterans with mesothelioma or asbestos-related lung cancer should know they have options: the opportunity to bring a suit against manufacturers and sellers of the asbestos that caused their illness. If you were harmed by asbestos exposure, for example, in ships or military housing, contact Weitz & Luxenberg to get a free case review. - Important Information for Veterans: Asbestos products were often used on military ships and within military housing, and Veterans may have been exposed. Previous exposure to asbestos is the only known cause of mesothelioma, a fatal cancer that has no cure and affects countless Veterans and loved ones.
