Obama's War: Take Your Time – Politics Daily

October 1, 2009 by Tom Barnes · 1 Comment

In today’s Politics Daily writer David Wood  has a piece that is very instructive in all the complexities of the Afghan war from the American pt of view.  The article is here.  The thrust of the argument he makes is this: President Obama is responsible in all aspects of the decision on how to proceed from here.  So he must take his time.  There must be no rush to judgment.

I would only add one last thing to consider.  The American people are passing judgment on the war as every week passes and it is very clear that they are deciding that the blood and treasure spent on this debacle must not be multiplied by even more blood and treasure trying to "save" what does not want to be saved.

The Afghanis do not share our world view.  What they are suffering is essentially religious war for theological differences concerning the living out of Sharia that stretches back centuries.  We are a side bar at best to their inter-family squabble that is being handled in typical Middle Eastern fashion.  They simply kill each other.  They are not Westerners and do not want to be Westerners.  Can we live with that?

Look, I have a way to solve the problem with Afghanistan. Back a long time ago when my wife lived in Happy Camp(?), Northern California along the Klamath river, there were guys that actually paid for their porta potties with Gold Dust panned from the river there. All we have to do is get a couple a hundred ounces of that stuff, sprinkle it along the river banks, then go to the news and state, ” THERE’S GOLD IN THEM THERE HILLS!! And quicker than the complaints about the Swedish female military’s person’s ‘combat bras’ coming undone when they are just trying to exercise (wink, wink), it’ll be just like California. Yes, I know, illegals everywhere, in monstrous debt, a movie star for a governor, movie stars parading up and down followed by the paparrazi, bridges falling down, earthquakes, mudslides, forest fires, Strip malls that go on forever, you name it but hey, the real California needs some of the heat taken off, Particularly around the San Joaquin valley (100+ every day in the Summer). Think of all the BBQ joints we could put up there. Alert ‘CNN’ for further instructions.

Hundreds of thousands of servicemen were exposed to asbestos over decades, especially during the period from 1940 to 1980. Asbestos was used in construction of naval vessels as well as shore facilities. All branches of the military used asbestos, which was also widely used in civilian applications. Asbestos can cause mesothelioma. Because this cancer has a particularly long latency period, many servicemen who were exposed years ago are now developing this disease. - Mesothelioma Patient & Family Resources: Mesotheliomahelp is provided by Belluck & Fox, LLP as a comprehensive resource for mesothelioma victims and their families.  The site provides up-to-date information on the latest news and treatment options as well as an easy to use search feature to find local mesothelioma doctors and health care clinics.  - We fight for veterans harmed by asbestos: Veterans with mesothelioma or asbestos-related lung cancer should know they have options: the opportunity to bring a suit against manufacturers and sellers of the asbestos that caused their illness.
