Shea,

We have 2 issues with bin laden. OK, more than that. His death was announced, it was accepted in Islam that he was dead, but why did we lie openly for 7 year...8 now...that people are following bin Laden. He is forgotten by everyone except us.

The other problem....who was he? His real statements are so far from the "Weekend at Bernies" zombie version that SOMEONE hired...that we may not have a clear idea about the man.

Let's get a clear history and see if we might decide who it was we thought we were against and why. We beleive he was invovled in the embassy bombings in 98.

We have no proof bin Laden was involved or that Al Qaeda even existed at the time. The US Attorney's office seemed to have jumped to these conclusions to make the case seem much more sexy.

We knew the groups that did this and why. Our assumption that a worldwide terror organization run by bin Laden was responsible is without any clear evidence.

Were he alive and if he had Gerry Spence as a lawyer, bin Laden could be walking down any street in America. He was wanted for crimes we didn't have didley squat of evidence against him for.

It sure would be nice if someone in the government would answer back on some of these pages and try to convince us that Osama is still alive.
Obama has been making the case that Osama is still a threat to us, and that we need to keep our troops in Afghanistan. Now is certainly the time for public debates about these security issues. If the American people do not demand these debates they will not happen.
What is there in this picture that resembles any part of a democracy?
Who is profiting from the heroin coming out of Afghanistan?
We have read official pentagon press releases that have announced that our troops are only bothering drug merchants who have ties to the Taliban,, but to what degree are we USING the heroin industry there?
Anyone interested in how we might be manipulating the control of the drug industry should read Alfred W. McCoy's "The Politics of Heroin." This is an incredibly well researched and documented book that reveals the actual inner workings of the international drug trade , and is so incredibly important to read during this current
situation in Afghanistan.
It appears that the American public is being treated as a small child might be treated,,,, just not mature enough to handle the truth,, not old enough to know the real situation.
One thing will spell failure for the Obama administration,, and that is if he does not keep his promise of creating more transparency in our government. Obama has a chance now to create open and transparent debates about our troops are being used,, and a chance to provide the most accurate intelligence data to be used in these debates.
The importance of these internet pages should not be underestimated.
Obama's failure to provide open and honest debate about our government's agenda will certainly threaten his chances to win another election,, and he should be wise enough to know this now.
Forget about winning the hearts and minds of our potential enemies,,,now is the time to be concerned about the hearts and minds of the people who got Obama elected.
Are we spreading our empire a little thin? I think so,, absolutely.
If the economic reality from our experts declares that we must control the heroin from Afghanistan in order to keep our boat afloat,, then tell us that.
We are big boys,, we can handle the truth!
I can see that angry Jack Nicholson face screaming at Tom Cruise now,,"You can't handle the truth!!" Veins popping out on his forehead,, rage seething from his lips.
Well,,, not only do I think we can handle the truth,,, I feel we absolutely
  deserve it.
But more importantly,,the men and women who have signed those contracts placing them on the ground in Afghanistan deserve the truth,,but they are not in positions to demand anything from their president or representatives,, they are there
trusting us to demand the truth,,, they are just there following orders.
Bravo and thanks to Veterans Today for keeping these discussions alive.
Our mass media has proven it cannot provide intelligent investigations.
These pages are very important. For a democracy to function correctly it relies on the informed and intelligent behavior of its citizens. We could always use a little more of that.
I'm going fishing,, enough of this serious talk!

If it can be proven beyond a reasonable doubt that Bin Laden has been dead since 2001 and that these wars were launched on manipulated data by our own government in order to decieve our own people, this is treason. There can be no doubt.

I for one would be the very first to call for courts martial for all the generals and admirals that knew on charges of treason and dereliction of duty, treason trials for all the Intelligence Community Directors that knew and as for Presidents and Vice Presidents of any party, I would call for public trials on treason charges.

If this is true and it can be proven, we are talking about imminent civil war led by the families of the American dead.

If this is true, and it can be proven beyond a reasonable doubt, this Republic is doomed.

CWO3 Tom Barnes, USCG (Ret.)
