NOTED FINANCIER, WW2 VET DANIEL OVERMYER JOINS LOS ANGELES PROTEST

VA POLICE COWED AS INTERNATIONAL "SUPER-BANKER"
AND CONGRESSIONAL CANDIDATE JOIN PROTEST OVER LAND THEFT

For 2 years, veterans have protested the misuse of veterans land, not "government" land, land donated to build housing for vets long ago. Instead, you see private swimming pools, tennis courts and a running track behind a million dollar fence. The words on the fence read, LOS ANGELES VETERANS PARK.
Police, sometimes a dozen or more, have hounded the aging demonstrators but not today. TV crews crowded around as Daniel Overmyer, international banker and Congressional Candidate Ari David joined the protest. Police were nowhere to be seen. Their swat vans and high powered cruisers stayed in the garage and the forces usually stalking protesting veterans were kept indoors and out of sight.
Overmyer, who helped found the international banking firm COPS after WW2, top financial advisor to dozens of governments including Russia and China, joined Robert Rosebrock, Ari David, Mark Reed, a fellow WW2 vet and Dave Culmer of the Los Angeles County Veterans Advisory Commision and a host of others from the American Legion, Military Order of Purple Heart and other organizations for the event.
Overmyer told Miram Hernandez of KABC TV and others gathered for the protest:
l’m speaking today on behalf of the million or more men and women who
have served their country in wars past and present. In the 1800s over
L50 acres of land on the west side of Los Angeles was given to Veterans,
for the sole purpose of building a Veterans Retirement Home.Currently,
attempts are underway to privatize the land and use it for other
purposes. This land is extremely valuable, which is why attempts are
being made to pervert its use.
As Veterans we have the right to thwa’rt these attempts and protect the
original goal of the family who donated this land. Unfortunately, the
construction of a Veteran’s Home on the land has not occurred, even
though it was mandated by Congress many years ago.We are obligated by the original owner, who gifted this property to
Veterans, to conserve it for its original purpose and only for that purpose.
We must deny the current attempts to privatize the land or use it for
some other purpose.We pledge our devotion to insuring that a Veterans Retirement Home is
constructed on this property.

The Los Angeles veteran land is the single most valuable financial asset American veterans own, valued at up to 3 billion dollars. Political groups tied to Congressman Waxman of Los Angeles and wealthy homeowners in Brentwood have secured 75 year leases that, when truth is told, lock veterans off the land as part of a program to keep "undesirables" away from their community.
The regional VA has responded to the nearly 2 years of protests against their unauthorized actions by tripling police funds, hiring more officers, buying new cars, building a new police facility and putting up a fence to keep veterans out, a fence costing over 1 million dollars.
Veterans have been photographed, followed and even assaulted. American Legionaire, Rosebrock, is facing Federal charges for protesting on non-Federal land with the full consent and supervision of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. The ACLU has called this "bizarre."
When Overmyer asked organizers why Governor Schwarzenegger has failed to support the veterans, he was told the "Governator’s" two children are among the students of the exclusive private academy using the veteran’s facilities the actual veterans are currently banned from using.
Overmyer demanded that Attorney General Holder appoint a special prosecutor to look into the complex 10 year web of shadow organizations, insider leases and political favors that have led to veterans being locked out, banned from what now is being dubbed, "Brentwood Country Club Annex."
Veterans who have "trespassed" on the "Veterans Park" which is open to students at the exclusive prep school now located on veterans property, wealthy Brentwood residents and public traffic have been arrested and charged with loitering. Homeless veterans, the rightful residents of the home never built, often sleep along the fence, an area providing easy access to nearby Veterans Affairs Medical Centers and the ability to visit their friends and comrades at the National Veterans Cemetary on the grounds.
Rosebrock, when asked how long he plans to continue protesting said, "We will stay as long as it takes, as long as needed for people in Los Angeles to wake up. Today the powerful are stealing from veterans. Anyone who think they will be satisfied, stopping with our land is mistaken. They take
anything they want, they feel money and political power can justify anything. We are here to prove them wrong."

Hey it’s good that someone high up has decided that enough is enough and what they have done hopefully can be undone as the authority to take Veteran’s land on a lease is not right. It might be legal but that still doesn’t make it right. It is Veteran’s land.

I’m a free market capitalist and it suits me fine everyone had a mansion and a Lear, everyone that is that earned the money fair and square exchanging needed goods and services for voluntary pay.
The crooks and accomplices seizing the veterans property and should be considered enemies of the state and domestic terrorists. The veterans risked their lives, suffered, gave up opportunities, and even gave their lives so we can be free and pursue happiness and prosperity, outrageous a feudalistic dictatorship attack, steal from and enslave the veterans who defended opportunity for wealth and freedom.
Thanks you Dan Overmyer and everyone for fighting for veterans rights anyone who will not stand with them doesn’t deserve to live in this country. I’m not asking for blanket support of every war and mission the government sends our brave soldiers on just acknowledgment that they answered the call of duty and risked or gave their lives for us.

first let me thank dan overmyer and all those who have protested about the theft of the veterans land. being a totally disabled vietnam veteran it sickens me to see such things happen.
its time for the government to realise what they are doing and stop immidiatly.we fought for this land and the very freedom to have it. now the bearacrats and government want to take it, i say we should do more protests and send a letter on e-mail to all the various veterans and groups to sign. then maybe obama and the governement will do the right thing and turn back the land to be used what it was originally to be used for. but than again why stop srewing the veterans now as they have srewed us out of benefits for years. so why stop now.
I wasn’t even aware of this takeover of our Veteran’s lands for such extreme profit until you made this public some weeks ago.I am so thrilled that there are principled people who will stand up to the status quo for justice. and equality.

Tom Selleck, Bo Derek et al, why hasn’t some vet organization put together a mega benefit concert in the LA area to spotlight this land grab issue ?
Yes, the California state budget is in shambles and the DVA SHOULD have built that facility YEARS ago, but its not surprising its taken this long to get a VIP involved with this issue.
The family that donated the land and a coalition of veterans organizations in the LA area OUGHT to form a joint non-profit program to raise awareness and funds to actually thwart any development and save the retirement facility with a coalition of vets groups. Think of all the homeless vets in LA that could really use a construction job on this massive project. A LOT of pro-active issues concerning vets could be solved if the various vet honchos actually sat down at the same table and hashed out a game plan for the long term goal of getting the facility up and running.

Veterans are banned as undesirables from this land? The wealthy that lives in freedom because of the Veterans of this country secures a 75 year lease? Come on, Arnold, take a stand and show you are really behind the men and women that have given so much but get back so little from America, the Veterans! I’m a disabled vet, don’t play tennis anymore, or swim, can’t breathe well, I doubt that many veterans use the soccer fields, I know I wouldn’t.

This man does not care about veterans otherwise he would have fixed the problems, or maybe special interest do a better job at stealing from veterans. Does anyone have Shinseki fax numer? I do not get your point. Who has what placed on their desk? Are you saying that Shinseki’s hands are tied by congress? My point was that he has yet to come forth and support the many veterans fighting the fight in California or the atrocities occurring everyday at VA facilities.
Simon, Shinseki would have to challenge two of the most senior politicians today, Senator Feinstein and Congressmen Waxman. Both of them have endorsed the public park in the name of Veterans that has the lease on the property. I believed that “change” was coming but, as things get worse (the VA just gave away the Veterans Garden) I don’t see that they, Shinseki or Obama, have the sacks to stop “Land-grab”
Why is all the focus on the East Coast and not the West. They are all afraid to confront the rich people and lawyers who find the loop holes. If they have not served the in US Military, they should have no say. Elvis Presley served and was proud to even though he was a star. Someone needs to PUMP UP the Veterans Rights and Benefits. This a good beginning, we cannot let it end here. I still think every high school graduate should serve in the military……………… If you want to become a citizen, you should serve in the military……………….. WAXMAN? AGAIN – MY GOD! Just like Obama, no matter which morning it is I always wake up to either Obama or Waxman bungling and breaking something that was in good order before he touched it — Now its Veterans Land – Sounds like the same deal pulled on the last of the American Indians.

I was honored to sit on the Veterans Advisory Commision with Dave Culmer several years ago. As a former commissioner for the County of Los Angeles and as a Vietnam veteran who served as an Airborne Ranger, (2 Silver Stars) I continue to be appalled with individuals who degredate the lives of those who have served their country. Those who are behind this illegal (and it is illegal, I have read countless memos, doucments, transcripts from conversations, from those involved) land grab are not only morally bankrupt but simply evil.
There are no words too harsh for people who steal, pay off politicians, and cajole their way into getting support from powerful people. This land was donated to veterans after the Civil War by a caring and kind family. This land dedicated to veterans, meant to heal our nations wounds by caring for those who had fought so gallantly, is now a current example of a traumatic amputation of trust in our system of government, greed in those who have fostered it, and corruption in those who are playing the part. I would like to see this veterans land honored by honoring those who have fought our nations battles and by thanking the family who had donated it in rememberence for those who have died. Those Brentwood residents and politicians who suppot this illegal theft should be ashamed of themselves. Finally, many thanks again to Dave Culmer, a good Marine not afraid of a fight and a good American not afraid to keep on fighting.
