Mitt Insults Marines, Outlines Foreign Policy for Fantasy World

Update: See the Chickenhawk Hall of Shame: “Let you and him go fight; I’ll hold your coat.” – Motto of the Chickenhawk
From Joe Lieberman to Sarah Palin to Mitt Romney, chickenhawks love to talk tough about using military force because it makes them look tough, a political asset. The problems are obvious.
From Ed Kilgore:
Semper Fi, Mitt!
I was reading Spencer Ackerman’s scathing summary of the foreign policy/national security sections of Mitt Romney’s new book, No Apology: The Case for American Greatness
and had to laugh out loud at this brief aside:
Romney himself never served, and his unfamiliarity with military issues is evident in ‘No Apology.’ He proposes adding ‘at least 100,000 soldiers to the army and the marines’ (Marines are not soldiers)….
You don’t have to have served, but need simply to have known a Marine (and they never, by the way, become ‘ex-Marines’), to be aware that Marines strongly object to being lumped in with Army folk as ‘soldiers.’ How that reference made it past the ghostwriter and various editors, in a book heavily focused on boosting Romney’s national security street cred in anticipation of another presidential run, is beyond me.
Ackerman’s broader indictment of the book is well worth a careful read. He covers Mitt’s weird tyopology of America’s enemies and “rivals;” his indifference to diplomacy, alliances and international institutions; and his shirking of any real analysis of what we should do in Afghanistan. His summation:
[A] glance through the remarkable conflation of conservative shibboleths, paranoid global fantasies and deterministic myopia in ‘No Apology’ makes it difficult to avoid the conclusion that the perennial GOP candidate might have been better off saying nothing at all.
If, of course, you can’t talk about, say, health care policy without getting into deep trouble, maybe even bad prose on national security is preferable. But Mitt does need to avoid insulting Marines.

“…chickenhawks love to talk tough about using military force because it makes them look tough…”
That’s as far as I got in your little piece. I’m not about to read crap from someone who even uses the term “chickenhawks” other than to refer to another writer’s use of it.
I’m a Vietnam vet, Conservative Republican, and frankly wonder what such a writer is doing on a veteran’s website… Won’t be back.
Bye now.
Update: See the Chickenhawk Hall of Shame: “Let you and him go fight; I’ll hold your coat.”
That’s for you, Bolivar, lover of chickenhawks.
Bolivar…if you are TRULY a vet of the VietNam conflict and were there, you either had your eyes closed the whole time or somehow just did not process what was going on. How on earth could you POSSIBLY be a “Conservative Republican”, having seen war?
I don’t understand why it is hard for you to think that a VFW can be a Conservative Republican? Please, explain.
Bolivar sounds like a ‘chickenhawk’ of the worst kind; One that claims to be a Nam vet when he, or she, has never, ever put on a uniform other than the uniform of a bathroom attendant at Club Med in Dubai.
Won’t be missed ‘chickenhawk’, from one Real Vietnam Vet, buh bye little one!!
Thank you Bolivar. These other folks are so used to hearing themselves blab their same rhetoric over and over, they can’t entertain that possibly, just possibly someone else in America can have a different opinion. Come on back. These people with flat brains can get really funny sometimes.
Tom 1st Cav, Korean DMZ and Laos, Neither Republican nor Democrat.
A Marine is never a soldier, and a cavalryman, even though only found in the Army, is never a soldier. A Cavalryman is is a ‘Trooper’. And having been in the Army, we are never X-soldiers. We are ‘Veterans’, one and all! Some of us have the added distinction of ‘Combat Veterans’. Welcome home brothers and sisters in arms. I frickin hate chickenhawks of any political persuasion!!!
Thank you for explaining, Cav Scout. Uh oh, that must mean you hate Obama? Shame on you
garyowen, man!
His highness Obama did not know the difference between corpsman and corpsemen but then of course the media did not mention that!
Mitt, Rove, and Cheney the Mole, all remind me of the moustacheod and gaitered British officers of WWI. With batons tucked under their arms, standing rigidly at attention on a trench rim and yelling “Go on lads – make us proud. Show them how it’s done.”
I hope you do something on Rove’s latest book.
It appears he too has no apology for misleading Congress into believing Sadam had WMD. Without WMD in the proposal Congress would never have bought the invasion plan, he states.
Cheney’s new book will probably carry plans for a do it yourself plans for a water board kit. The other night, he endorsed the use of water boarding. Torture? So?
It’s sickening to see how much time these chracters get on the airwaves. And Limbaugh, now threatening to leave the States if health care is passed, should only fuel up the democrats to pass the bill.
Name on newspaper or one TV station that has the guts to air this cast of weirdos for what they’re worth.
Right on. Romney and all of the Chickenhawks should form their own Army and leave the Marines alone.

OO-Rah!
Flashback….When I was 17 and a recurit in Parris Island the senior DI made me his “house mouse & scribe”. He made it quite clear to all that it wasn’t until graduation that those who made it would become a Marine.
During my door gunner duty on the CH-46D in country I was very proud when my CO handed me my Combat Aircrew Wings.
Many years later, locked behind steel doors at a Florida VAMC pysch ward, I had to listen to a Jewish pill pusher doctor tell me all veterans are the same; veterans.
I laughed at him and pointed out I was a Marine. When I finally physically die my VA issued gravestone will show, Cpl. G.A. Lovenguth USMC. So it is.
Thanks for your service, Lovenguth.
Even a Caver like me has to say: Semper Fi, I’m glad you’re home safe.
This just in: Marines are Surprisingly Easy to Insult.
I am a Marine Corp Communicator Nam’ Veteran, Sons of Liberty, Oathkeeper and 3%er.
To US Military Oathkeepers:

Escort said to Internment Camps illegally funded and built? for Americans by same. Hold in custody till a New Citizen Govt is formed. Your orders are the Declaration of Independence. Are you advocating the overthrow of the legally constituted government of the United States by force or violence?
Let me know so that I can forward your stupid ass comment to the proper authorities.
Do “secret societies” include the C Street Family, the shadowy dominionist Fundamentalist Christian group?
They should.
And it sounds like you’re talking treason, there.
BTW, all those “Internment Camps” must be the same ones that the looniest folk on the Left spent the entire Bush administration expecting to be herded into. In their version, the camps were built by Cheney & Blackwater to hold Americans protesting the Iraq War, or those challenging the WMD fairy tales. (The camps part was far-fetched, but I’m sure you all remember Ann Coulter calling all of us who knew there weren’t any WMD, and said so, “Traitors.”)
Far Right or Far Left, ridiculous paranoia is amazingly similar … and always similarly unhelpful.
Who you kidden? as vet’s we’re f–k’d! line up and touch your toe’s and this time there’ll be no vaz!
but when the time comes I’ll stand tall cause we all gotta die sometime! WTF
War profiteers, politicians who talk tough but are “too intelligent, too privileged & too full of themselves” to serve in the military, lobbyists who make money off of shoddy material sold @”lowest bidder”, a Secretary of Defense who allowed “no bid” contracts in the millions of dollars in Iraq have disgusted me for years.
Bill Maher has it correct about the current crop of GOP presidential hopefuls.
People who call us names for talking about 9/11 Truth or the possibility of things like HAARP being used for evil purposes, are akin to those who have their daughter say that ‘Daddy touched me’.. and then doing nothing about it, because they’re too wrapped up in denial to protect their child. At the end of the day, the Government
has totally … See morebroken our trust. They play the role of protector, yet instead, they are abusers… just like a molestor but worse. Gain trust, feign innocence… keep on abusing. Call the whistleblowers names… “Good people” don’t want to ‘offend’, or push the boundaries of common decency, or what ‘ought to be so’. Well… it ISN’T so…. 9/11 was an inside job. A million plus Iraqis dead.
Patriot Act, Fema Camps, sound weapons used on public, fluoride in the water, debt enslavement, Guantanamo inmates never going to trial, disapperaing planes, high rise buildings suffering total collapse when not hit by a fricking thing (WTC7), RFID chips, Earthquakes everywhere, impending total monetary collapse… and WE ARE THE CRAZY ONES???? Come on….. Wake UP!!!!

Mitt did not serve in the military, his dad did not serve during WWII, his brother did not serve in the military, his grandfather did not serve in the military.
Mitts idea of service in the military is his family serving him to become president.
The truth about Mitt Romney link below:
http://mittromney2012potus.blogspot.com/
why didn’t you mention that slick Willie Clinton did not serve nor did Obama
Point taken about Pres. Obama and militarism, though he did not exactly start wars, lie America into war (though these pages have pointed to plenty lies RE Afghanistan made by Obama) and use fear as a weapon against political opponents.
You compare the Bush-Cheney-neocon crowd and its blatant fear-mongering to the Clinton and Obama administrations and you see there is no comparison. The whole thrust of Bush-Cheney was bashing domestic political opponents over the alleged threat faced by enemies the world-over, with a get-gays and stop-women’s-choice message thrown in for the whacks on the regligious right.
