Arizona’s Radical Bill

Nazi Papers - Do You Have Your Papers?

Nazi Papers - Do You Have Your Papers?

No surprise to see John McCain supporting this unAmerican attempt to mandate that police demand citizens show their papers.

What a phony McCain is. Where does he think is: The Occupied Territories.

From The Progress Report:

Arizona’s Radical Bill

Arizona has often been referred to as “ground zero” of the nation’s immigration fight. It’s the state where a nine-year-old girl and her father were shot and killed by anti-immigrant Minuteman vigilantes this past summer. It’s the place where the brutal murder of a prominent rancher led politicians to blur the line between dangerous drug cartel operatives and undocumented workers. It’s also home to “Hispanic-huntingSheriff Joe Arpaio. On Monday, the Arizona state legislature made headlines when it approved a bill entitled the “Support Our Law Enforcement and Safe Neighborhoods Act,” legislation that will likely end up establishing the harshest set of state immigration laws in the country. Gov. Jan Brewer’s (R-AZ) phone has been ringing off the hook with residents encouraging her to either sign or veto it. Given the fact that Brewer is up for re-election this fall, and with polling data suggesting that 70 percent of Arizona voters support the stringent measure, it seems likely that the bill will soon become law — but not without a fight.

HIGH-RISK BILL: SB-1070 would require police to attempt to determine the immigration status of anyone they encounter as part of a “lawful contact” and allow them to arrest undocumented immigrants and charge them with trespass. If residents believe police officers are not enforcing immigration laws, they can sue them. It would also outlaw the hiring of day laborers off the street and prohibit anyone from knowingly transporting an undocumented immigrant for any reason. The ACLU points outthat SB-1070 unconstitutionally allows the state to regulate immigration — a power which the Constitution assigns to the federal government. The ACLU also highlights a provision of the bill that grants police officers authority to conduct warrantless arrests of anyone who cannot immediately produce documents and notes that such action has already been deemed invalid by the Ninth Circuit Court. The ACLU concludes that the bill will “exacerbate racial profiling” and tries to “rewrite the Constitution by turning the presumption of innocence on its head.” Several research institutions have also cited the high fiscal costs associated with local immigration crackdowns. The National Employment Law Project pointed outthat smaller-scale anti-immigrant ordinances have cost individual localities millions of dollars. The Perryman Group estimates that if all unauthorized immigrants were removed from Arizona, the state would lose $26.4 billion in economic activity, $11.7 billion in gross state product, and approximately 140,324 jobs. The Immigration Policy Center noted that, “with Arizona facing a budget deficit of more than $3 billion, Gov. Brewer might want to think twice about measure that would further imperil the state’s economic future.” Brewer has until Saturday to sign or veto SB-1070 before it automatically becomes state law.

MCCAIN EMBRACES DISCRIMINATION: Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) is facing a tough primary challenge this year from immigration hawk J.D. Hayworth and is using SB-1070 to show that he’s “tough” on the issue. On Monday, McCain endorsed SB-1070, describing it as “a very important step forward” shortly after proposing his own 10-point enforcement-only plan to secure the nation’s borders. In an interview with Fox News, McCain stated that he would be “very sorry” if racial profiling happened, but “illegals” are “intentionally causing accidents on the freeway.” McCain once preferred to refer to undocumented immigrants as “God’s children” and described “enforcement-first” policies as an “ineffective and ill-advised approach.” McCain now wants 700 miles of fencing along the Arizona-Mexico border, a proposal he once derided as a “quick fix” to our border security problems in the absence of a comprehensive approach. Now McCain says that he and Sen. Jon Kyl (R-AZ) will block immigration reform if it is proposed this year. In 2006, McCain opposed the failed Sensenbrenner bill — which contained criminalization components virtually identical to SB-1070’s — calling it “anti-Hispanic.” McCain is clearly trying score cheap political points in a state in which 83 percent of voters say a candidate’s position on immigration is an important factor in how they will vote, with 51 percent saying “it’s very important.” The co-founder of the Minutemen, who is usually quick to embrace anyone who agrees with his radical views, described McCain’s newly adopted position as “shameful election-year politics” and accused him of trying to “hood-wink” voters. Meanwhile, immigration advocate Frank Sharry stated, “Obviously, John McCain is fighting for his political life in Arizona. I sure miss the days when he fought for his principles.”

VOCAL OPPOSITION: Rasmussen may suggest that most Arizonians support SB-1070, yet it has generated a strong and vocal opposition. The Arizona Association of Chiefs of Police (AAOP) firmly opposesit for fiscal and public safety reasons. Mesa Police Sgt. Bryan Soller, who is president of the Mesa and Arizona Fraternal Order of Police, has expressed similar concerns, stating that the bill “will bankrupt our city.” Arturo Venegas, director of the Law Enforcement Engagement Initiative, issued a statement accusing the Arizona legislature of “playing politics with public safety,” pointing out that it “will result in police spending less time keeping the streets free of violent criminals” and create distrust within the immigrant community. Members of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus have askedBrewer to veto the bill and are pressuring President Obama to either warn of federal pre-emption of the law or threaten Arizona’s federal funding. Rep. Raul Grijalva (D-AZ) has called for a national boycott of his state until it disavows its “fundamentally racist” immigration bill. Meanwhile, on the ground, several 24-hour candle light vigils have been held and nine students were recently arrested after chaining themselves to the old State Capitol building. As of Monday, Brewer’s office had received1,356 calls, e-mails and faxes in favor of SB-1070 and 11,931 against the bill. While Cardinal Roger Mahony “can’t imagine” Arizona reverting to “German Nazi and Russian Communist techniques,” former President Bill Clinton explained that the bill is a response to widespread insecurity and disorientation and reminded Americans that, ultimately, “we can’t let the debate veer so far into hatred that we lose focus of our common humanity.”

  1. Are you sheeple for real? READ the fricking law. Less restrictive the the Federal one. READ THE LAW!!!!!!!

  2. Nazi, Genocide, Immigration Bill Arizona, Identification? Pull out your wallets. License, Social Security Card, Credit Card, Vehicle Registration Card, Grocery Store Card, Library Card, Airline Rewards Card…ad infinitum. Every single card tracks you, every single card controls access, every single card is issued/restricted/denied based on a set of criteria! Nazi and Jewish Star of David armbands, that is even a stretch for comparability to Arizona’s bill. There were no civil rights for Jews under the Nazi’s, no court system or governmental system that allowed protests and differing opinions. No gas ovens wait for Arizona illegals, no unmarked mass graves for those arrested! American citizens are guaranteed freedoms and those that disobey our laws are still protected by the same citizens the disobeyers abuse. No one has the right to use the word Nazi or Jew in this situation. As a Jew if you compare any Arizona situation to us and Nazis, your ignorance offends me. You are a racist of the worst kind. Be quiet!

  3. Tired of the hyperbole. As Daniel Patrick Moynihan, politician and great friend of Ted Kennedy once said “Everyone is entitled to an opinion but everyone is not entitled to their own set of facts.” While this immigration bill is not the answer, neither is it the Apocolypse. It’s value is in beginning a national dialogue that the Washington pansies of all parties hoped to avoid. Immigration is a federal issue but it took AZ to push the buttons of the Capitol. Failure of leadership in the White House and the Capitol hurts our nation and Dems and Republicrats are equally culpable and at fault. For those that talk of boycotting AZ business, get real people. This is not the fault of those contributing to our AZ economy! What lamebrains these Andy Warhol-types! Stay home. Our idiot index is high enough!

  4. What are Americans Suppose to Think? When I came home from Viet Nam (1970)I started hanging around with guys with lowered cars.I had a 1968 Ford Ranchero fixed up very nice and lowered.I was constantly being pulled over by Police and Narco Officers just because low riders had a bad name. Why was that justifiable? Always had to show ID and my car was searched ramdomly. And,they would most of the time run a ID check. My car was emacculant and legal.Oh,buy the way,I’m a white boy.So was this not as Radical as what is being, our what will be done in Arizona? Hey Joe,don’t you think it’s time to wake up? Ron

  5. IF THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT WONT ENFORCE IMMIGRATION LAWS–STATES WILL.

Legal citizens who jumped through hoops are welcome–but illegal immigrants will not get any Amnesty–leading to citizenship.
Arizona Govern Jan Brewer has more–SPINE–than the majority of our politicians, to fight the overpowering onslaught of illegal immigration. She signed the 1070 immigration bill. Arizona a border state is rampant with murders, home invasion, kidnappings, rapes, assaults and one of the highest crime rates, by illegal immigrants. Its ignorance and indifference of Washington to enforce our immigration laws. In fact they have purposely under funded them.

San. Harry Reid (D-NV) is not being outed just for health care reform, but being a puppet of open border-special interests groups? LETS MAKE THAT CLEAR.One thing for absolutely sure, desperate illegal alien families will be fleeing Arizona, for more greener pastures such as California. Seeing California is a Refuge state for illegal foreigners and already has the largest illegal population in Unites States other than New York. Now starving for billions of dollars, California will have to amend there own enforcement laws to stop the massive migration or pay a heavy price in extorting more money from taxpayers. Then there is always Utah, Texas, New Mexico or even farther states such as Washington. ONE THINGS FOR SURE, THAT THEY MAY PASS SOME FORMULATION OF IMMIGRATION REFORM. BUT AMERICA WILL FIGHT TOOTH AND NAIL THAT NO “PATH–TO–CITIZENSHIP” FOR THOSE WHO CAME HERE ILLEGALLY. I am personally a tea partier a moderate Conservative and definitely not a Democrat and Republicans.-and illegal immigration is the no.1 priority to me, and must be stopped for good.

Californian’s are under financial hardship owing to the welfare programs that caters to illegal alien families, and with an outpouring of Arizona’s illegals the Sacramento budget will triple in handouts. Californian’s, specifically Angeleno’s and San Francisco There should be no excuse why FEDERAL SOLDIERS SHOULD BE NOT DEPLOYED TO THE 2000 MILE BORDER. They need to police the border, with the under-manned border patrol and even a poorly funded law enforcement agencies. Sheriffs and deputies that are in a very dangerous area are rudimentary armed, against heinous felons, drug cartels, skin traffickers, smugglers and the flow of unceasing indigent illegal immigrants. LET ME REITERATE, THAT IMMIGRATION ENFORCEMENT IS ONLY SEEN TO WORK. BUT THE TRUTH IS ITS NOT ENFORCED–THAT RIGHT NOW HOMELAND SECURITY HAS CUT BUDGETS FOR IMMIGRATION ENFORCEMENT. If you are–NOT–an open border extremist, join the organization that is fighting for our rights, your language, freedoms and liberty at NumbersUSA.

  6. Elvira’s comment above says it all: her interests are with “our Latino community.” What are other Americans supposed to think? Hispanic come here to take advantage of the economic order and opportunities yet demand we accept their Latino culture, which of course is responsible for their plight in the first place. What about our right to protect and preserve our own culture? Their leaders’ language is aggressive and threatening, and we’re supposed to stand aside and say, here, help yourself to whatever you want?

According to Dick Morris’s book, the average Latino family costs the American taxpayers $31,000 each year in benefits. What native American family even knows about these handouts? Two local hospitals, one in Bridgeport, CT and another in Portchester, NY went bankrupt catering to Latinos. These people appear to be well-coached and make demands native Americans wouldn’t dream of making on the system. California isn’t broke because of its leftist programs, but mainly because the federal government coerces it to pay for mandated benefits to Latinos.

Like most native Americans, I think Latinos are mostly wonderful people who deserve every chance a native American gets, provided they are here legally, and they wish to become Americans and not Balkanize this country to the point it looks like where they came from. My hope is that they will not allow themselves to be used as tools by the crass political opportunists who are like a cancer in every culture.

    • Well said Dan. Most of my Hispanic friends here agree with you. They left Mexico and points south to escape political terrorism, and to live in a safe country with opportunity rather than gang driven poverty. Damndest thing — my friends are all legal immigrants, happy to be Americans, but prepared to flee America if the current Administration expands its financial nutcase policies. I hope to heck they get to stay here, because they are really fine people and neighbors.

Personally, Arizona has the Constitutionally granted State right to pass this law. It’s not un-Amercan Mike and Elvira. It’s just un-American from your outmoded, old-fahioned view of how America should be. Wisconsin doesn’t have to pass that law. Of course, Wisconsin doesn’t have the same South of the Border problem that Arizona does. But when it spreads to you guys, let’s watch you all whine and snivel about why you aren’t being protected.

  7. How sad!! If this bill becomes law it will be the greatest injustice of the century!! This is like watching the Nazis attach the Jews, like watching slavery all over again and not be able to do anything!! How can we allow this to happen?! AND this is not something that just our Latino community should protest about BUT everyone should speak out!! PLease we need to practice compassion!

    • Yes, because asking someone to show ID when their pulled over or stopped for suspicious activity is the same as genocide. Unreal.

      • Joe – Asking someone their ID is not an issue, the bill allows legal immigrants 6 months jail and $500 fine for forgetting the documents at home. The second issue is the bill requires police officers to randomly stop people for no reason whether they are walking or driving or sitting at a restaurant.

    • Illegals have invaded this country by the MILLIONS using resources they’ve never paid into with total disrespect for our countries immigration laws while insulting those who are trying to become an American legally.

Take your sob story elsewhere. This bill needs to be signed and is long overdue.

    • how sad that the dang mexicans are taking jobs, how sad they are getting free health care, how sad they allow anchor babies the full gamment of us citezinship, how sad they do not obey the laws and defy our rules, they are not immagrants, they are invaders, and the wishy washy liberals are crying racism, what a crock, if you read the darn bill, if an officer has a resonable suspicion the person is not here legally, they can ask, can you tell me how many federal prisoners are mexican,? they need to to be rounded up and kicked back to the mexico they love so much,
