A state lawmaker wants to make sure that any candidate on the presidential ticket from now on can show proof they were born in the United States — or not be allowed on the Texas ballot.
State Rep. Leo Berman this week said he’s planning to file several immigration-related bills once Texas lawmakers get back to work in January, including one that requires presidential and vice presidential candidates to prove their citizenship to the Texas secretary of state before their names are added to the ballot.
This is similar to one provision in the immigration law recently approved in Arizona.
“We’ll do it,” said Berman, R-Tyler, and a former Arlington mayor pro tem. “We’ll do it from now on. If he can’t prove citizenship … he won’t have a place on the Texas ballot.”
Berman was referring to President Barack Obama, whose birthplace has been questioned by some since before he took office. Although his campaign produced a birth certificate that shows Obama was born in Hawaii, some speculate that he was actually born in Kenya, where his father lived.
Last weekend, Berman told a crowd in Tyler that he believes “Barack Obama is God’s punishment on us today, but … we are going to make Obama a one-term president,” according to a report in the Tyler Morning Telegraph.
Berman also plans a broad bill similar to the Arizona law, which makes being an undocumented worker a crime. He specifically wants to include the measure to allow law enforcement officials to ask people who they believe may be in the country illegally about their status. “I think almost every state in the union will follow suit,” Berman told the Star-Telegram during a recent call from Switzerland, where he is vacationing.
His proposals drew fire from several Democrats, including Hank Gilbert, who is running for Texas agriculture commissioner.

To me, we are in a battle royal for the soul of the USA. A Civil War! Do we go with the GOP TEA BAGGER WHITE POWER RACIST PARTY or do we go RAINBOW USA FOR THE 21ST CENTURY? Demographics says RAINBOW wins unless the GOP TEA BAGGER WHITE POWER RACIST PARTY goes ethnic cleanse on us.
This is insane stuff. Nobody’s going to “ethnic cleanse” anyone in this country. To believe that it may happen is to not even know who the authors of your own thoughts are. To be the tool of the fascists in the Democratic Party who are willing to destroy the economic chances of Americans, mostly blacks, for no other purpose than buying votes is sad indeed.

As far as Tyler’s Berman goes, we have the right to have nutcakes down here in Texas also. You guys up north and south of the border aren’t all alone (gotcha’ JP)! If Obama is “God’s punishment” according to the Tyler Congressman, then Berman is “God’s dump” in the corner of the back yard.
Texas probably will have a bill similar to Arizona. So will Utah which has been devastated by Mexican drug gangs. And the word on the street is, so will California. I guess Mayor Newsome of San Francisco will have to secede?

The left wing press has downplayed the danger in the Border States. Even a pro-amnesty governor as Bill Richardson, who issued drivers licenses to illegal immigrants has demanded the military on his border territory, which says something of the desperate plight. Arizona Being the first state just across the open border countless numbers of impoverished people have slipped past our thin undermanned line of Border patrol agents. In the last twenty years millions of foreigners circumvented our laws, to become a financial burden on every state in the union. This situation is not getting any better, but far worse as Democratic-Liberal influenced legislators have been offering even more welfare programs in Liberal run assemblies. We already have the 1986 immigration laws on the books and don’t need rescinding. If it had been enforced in the first place, we wouldn’t have this increasing population of illegal immigrants.
The border remains wide-open in many places, as criminals are also appearing in increasing numbers in every town. Quietly screened by the government from view, foreign insurgents, who are being assisted by drug cartels and gang members are already here. The police who are in short supply along the border region, believe that drug dealers were responsible for the death of Robert Kruntz on his cattle ranch. Then there is the case of Robert Rosas, a US Border Agent gunned down on this side of the border, near San Diego by illegal immigrants in July 2009. My guess the press was asked to keep this murder a secret, because of the implications of people living in the border region?
All those politicians implicated in keeping the border unsealed or involved in the pro-amnesty movement must be removed during primaries or any upcoming election. My family tree arrived here in 1605 — the first surviving Virginia Colony. Yet, here I am, over 400 years later. And you want to hold me responsible for that Virginia Colony’s travel and actions? Hell, I’m not even responsible for what my Dad did. I can account for it, but I’m not responsible.
My wife is Cherokee. In 1836, her great, great… grandmother was forced to walk the trail of tears. The daughter survived as a little girl and the mother died on the horrible walk. Am I responsible? My family on my mother’s side are from Allentown PA and were involved in hiding the Liberty Bell in the old Dutch Reformed Church now downtown Allentown.
Honestly many in my family who were Dutch never thought English speaking Americans ever felt the bloody brunt of the revolutionary war. It was the Dutch who suffered. I am not saying this. This is what has been passed down.
What I am trying to say is this. America is changing and those white Anglo Americans better get used to it. In this case in AZ and now in Texas Policies based on religion and color are wrong minded, and in the end will bite ya in the butt.

America does have crime Paul you are right about that. 95% of outstanding warrants are for illegals while 67% of the 17,000 fugitive felony warrants are for illegals just in Los Angeles. 22% of all sex crimes are committed by illegals. 25% of all inmates in federal prison are illegals. Again you are right but only part way this time. lets start putting the blame where it goes and its not on our dead ancestors.
I think the Democrats and Republicans take equal blame for the immigration mess we are in. The democrats want votes and the republicans want cheap yard boys. The only way out is to incoporate Mexico as 4 states and then the Mexicans can do whatever they want. Remember Florida from a few years ago before the Cubans took over, all the Anglo’s hated the Cubans, now the Cubans run the cities, counties and the state governments. It all comes down to the dollar,the one’s that control the purse strings call the shots.

Damn, Bill, that was VERY funny. I applaud you! And here I always thought President (my great,great Uncle) U.S. Grant was uglier than a mud fence also.
BTW, Texas, except for increasingly rare pockets) is about as laid back multiracial as it can get. Our biggest concern in this economy is the 30%+ of our young AMERICAN kids (black, white, hispanic, middle eastern, far eastern, Austinites like Punish) have trouble getting the jobs you and I had as young kids, because illegal immigrants are sucking them up.
I have a bunch of Dutch rascals on one branch of my family tree. Good people. Stubborn though, like my Cherokee wife.

Sorry David, I didn’t mean to skip over you. Maybe it’s because what you say is too practical and logical. The problem is, Mexico doesn’t want that. They want to dump their problem children into the U.S. and have us pay them for it. As you say, follow the money trail.
Did you ever notice that the ones who want the borders wide open are the drug-addicted liberals? They’ll use every argument possible (racism, colorism, ism, ism, ism) to keep their drugs flowing.
