Amid a backlash from civil libertairans and law enforcement officials, Sarah Palin defedned Arizona’s new immigration bill.
Sarah Palin appeared on Fox News and straightened out the record: No racial profiling in Arizona after-all. Sure, if you look brown and have no papers, you land in jail. The Fourth Amendment, the 14 Amendment, these rights are for wusses. From Huffington:
Sarah Palin called Arizona’s controversial new immigration bill a “reasonable…wake up call” Tuesday, and criticized President Obama for “perpetuating this myth that racial profiling is a part of this law.”
In an interview with Fox News’s Sean Hannity — who introduced the segment by accusing “pro-illegal immigration” protesters of not actually reading the legislation — Sarah Palin said “there is no ability or opportunity in there for the racial profiling” in the law.
Critics have argued that the broader powers of law enforcement officials to stop and question suspected illegals who would, with this legislation, be considered to be “breaking the law” if they are in the state, will inevitably lead to racial profiling.
Palin, however, denied these claims.
“Shame on the lamestream media again for turning this into something that it is not,” Palin insisted. “Governor Jan Brewer did what she had to do as the CEO of that state to help protect the citizens of her state she had to do what the federal government has refused to do and that is help secure the borders.”

How can racial profiling NOT be part of this situation ? They’re certainly not looking for illegal immigrants coming over from Iceland or Canada. They are looking for Mexicans. They will not be stopping blonde white folks. ( Unless they decide to go ahead and stop a few just for the sake of argument , to prove their point)
Illegal immigration is a problem that needs to be dealt with but this is not the answer. It is a terrible, terrible idea and Palin shows her true colors by supporting it. And she says that it’s Obama stirring the pot ? What is wrong with this woman ? The Republicans and Conservatives that are reasonable and level headed really need to start calling out the likes of Palin , Bachmann, Beck, Hannity, etc and make a very clear statement that they do not represent sane faction of their party. The fringe is making a mockery of the political system simply because they’re finding ways to be louder and they have Fox shining the spotlight on their antics. It’s ridiculous. There’s serious work to be done but we’ve got these yokels throwing gasoline on fires that they started in the first place.

I keep hearing that ‘there is no room for racial profiling in this law’ but nobody has explained what in the law will prevent it. In my mind, the law opens the door for and encourages racial profiling. And unlike Sarah Palin, I have read it. I guess if I’m looking for a half intelligent explanation of something, I shouldn’t be reading Sarah Palin quotes.
So then if yo uactually read it, you would see that there is NO ROOM OR MENTION OF RACIAL PROFILING.
This is a mirror image of the Federal Immigration Law that was supposed to be inforced by ICE and CBP. So, tell me how there is any sort of racial profiling, rights issues or unconstitutionality?

Pima County Sheriff, Clarence Dupnik, says he won’t enforce Arizona’s new anti-immigration law, which he says is “racist” and “disgusting” – two words which fit the new law nicely. Rather, Dupnik says he’ll go on handling illegal immigration the way he always has – by handing over known illegal immigrants to the Border Patrol.
He also noted that if forced by court, his deputies would racial profile to please his directive and the new law.
Do you need more proof?
Let’s stop the gobble-lee-gook! We all know the law is purposely vague to give leeway to weed out and profile. Whether naive or coy, we need to step up and acknowledge that this gives a green light to racial profiling so that the good argument for enforcement of law does not get lost in the determination to prove a negative.

I agree with Jeremiah, the only way to get into the country needs to be legal! On this point, we AGREE 100%. What we disagree on is how we got here and how to fix it. 1. Giving work permits to ALL 20 million already here and get them registered with a path to citizenship.
2. Making Work Permits available for all future workers so that they DO NOT NEED to sneak in to work with a time stamp so that there is path for them to return to their country of origin and offer a path for citizenship when requirements are met
3. Put Mexico at the highest of top priorities for National Security and Investment so that we can invest in their future to help them raise their middle and lower class wage so that Mexicans do NOT feel the need to come to USA to work. In other words, tear down the wall and build the bridges.
4. Invest massive amounts of money into drug education for our population and then legalize it all. Take the drug addicts off the streets and put them into the medical rehab programs. This will end the drug war 100% up front because drug will NO longer be on the streets but in the humane pharmacies.

While technically true, the overwhelming majority of undocumented workers in Arizona come from Mexico. Thus for all intents and purposes, this is about Mexican undocumented workers. Most people on all sides of the issue acknowledge this fact.
The law is the law, Punish. What is legal is legal. If you don’t like it and think you have voting power, change it on the Federal level. I doubt very much you are an Arizona resident, but if you are, put together a coalition to change the law. If you are not an Arizona resident, keep your nose out of their business. Or Utah, for that matter who is settled with a mass debt from supporting all the illegals on the public health and other doles. Texas will soon follow suit if it doesn’t join Alaska and Hawaii and secede first.
As for Mike Leon, he feels safe up in Wisconsin, so he thinks he can stick his nose in other people’s business with impugnity. But his State has its own problems — quadrillions of harmless little flies are everywhere in Wisconsin following this Global Warming winter.

Thru a monstrosity called the USDA, which has taken virtual control of America’s farms thru laws, regulations and an immense amount of tax money used to bribe and subsidise gigantic farming operations, like Cargill and those putrid pools of waste and dead animals, CAFO.. three quarters of subsidy money goes to the top 10% of recipients.
This has virtually destroyed the family farm, making it impossible for the traditional farmer to survive, at the same time, the ground is being used and abused, with these corporations and king hell size farms squeezing the last bit of profit out of the land and to hell with any thoughts for the future.
The land is abused thru massive doses of herbicides, pesticides and fungicides, along with millions of tons of chemical fertilizer, some of which washes downstream and winds up in our drinking water.
This does not benefit our country, only the Monsantos and Duponts of the world and gives the USA a big club to use on nations starving from lack of food because their farmers can’t afford to compete with our heavily subsidised grain, pigs and cattle operations.
That is part of the reason Mexicans are flooding into our porous southern border, they can’t make a living at home.

Our family and friends get-togethers are a riot of different political and spiritual opinions. The main trunk of my family arrived here in 1605, in the first surviving Virginia Colony.

In America, our youngest adults (age 16-24)are our highest unemployment rate today — I saw in the WSJ the other day it was over 30%. Terry, good point! In fact, Mexico makes a very strong effort for it’s schools to teach English. In fact, millions of Mexicans now speak English. It’s spreading quit fast now as companies like Costco, Wal-Mart, Applebees, McDonalds, Home Depot, Office Depot, Carl’s Jr. KFC, Burger King, Chili’s, Sam’s Club and more invest and continue to invade Mexico intelligently over the last 10 years. You’d be surprised how North American Mexico actually is. Mexico is changing super fast! I encourage you to learn more about our largest neighbor. Travel there and enjoy! It’s a wonderful country filled with a huge growing middle class, great adventure, and frankly, the nicest people on the planet! And yes, you really do not need to speak Spanish to get along but it’s always a nice way to extend respect for it’s rich culture and people.

You know I have lived in and done business in Mexico for many many years; decades in fact! I have traveled the country into almost every single state including but not limtied to Mexico City, Puebla, Toluca, Cuernavaca, Culiacan, Guadalajara, Merida, Cancun, Chetumal, Leon, Mazatlan, Puerto Vallarta, Villahermosa, and all over Baja California and much more. What you characterize is NOT something that I’ve ever experienced. In fact, the last time I was robbed was in Los Angeles California USA by a white guy! Go figure!
Now this is not to say that Mexico is a perfect place! It’s not. It’s only to point out that Mexico is NOT the 3rd world country on the verge of collapse where everyone is getting mugged and corruption is on every street corner! In the end, if we are going to have a respectful and productive dialogue we need to end the demonization of Mexico and it’s peoples. This would go quite far in winning friends and influencing people and would endear us once again to the world as leaders. And in the 21st century global economy, a global disposition is mission critical to our collective success.
Furthermore, as you know, Mexico is in North America. Mexicans align themselves more with USA than any other country. Did you know, the largest NFL game in history was played in Mexico City ironically between the Arizona Cardinala and S.F. 49ners in 2005. Mexicans share a huge amount of culture with us along with family values. Think Tanks have put out the NORTH AMERICAN UNION to create a one market for Canada, USA, and Mexico to give more power to compete against the EU and Asia. It will happen within 100 years after a few generations move on and leave their 20th century baggage behind. The new generations will not have the same prejudice to success. So yeah, it will be a new Rainbow Melting Pot future for all of us. Did you know over 1 million USA Citizens already reside in Mexico and that number is growing. We’re headed for a merger! It’s coming and I think it will be great for all!

I was watching a TV show a couple of nights ago when the spanish representative from arizona, (the one who wanted Arizona boycotted) when he said these illegals were mostly good law abiding PEOPLE. WELL I BEG TO DISAGREE WITH HIM, IF THEY WERE LAW ABIDING PEOPLE THEY WOULD NOT BE HERE ILLEGALLY.

Now it appears that you are determined to blame the worker as a thief, a criminal, a crook and not hold our feet to the fire. If so, I am NOT sure we are ever going to agree because I hold LEADERS responsible for the rules of our society and their implementation. It appears that you want absolve them and blame the people who react to them.
Please know that I simply cannot have the child run the house! I set the rules the children follow them and if I say NO SNACKS before dinner and then always look the other way when they do, then I am to blame not the children! That’s just how I feel about taking responsibility and leadership.

I agree we need to fix this problem. That is what Arizonia is doing shutting the door so to speak, because the Federal Government refuses to do it. Protecting our borders being one of the few duties of the federal government. Instead they get involved in everything but what the constitution authorizes them to do. No one said that Mexicans are not good people, but we can not allow everyone who wants to come here do so with total disreguard for our sovernty and our laws. Also the old line that they are coming here for a better life, and doing jobs Americans won’t do is lame. Unemployment is over 10% and Americans want and need jobs. There are good and needy people crossing our border,as well as drugs, criminals, drug cartels, gangs, etc. Pity the poor ranchers, and small towns that are unfortunate to be living on the border. Where is the sympathy for the real Americans. And please don’t blow smoke up my pant leg and tell me there is real concern for these people its all about legalizing the illegal’s to create a voting block for a liberal agenda and have a permanet underclass that is dependant on social largess from the nanny state.

So Congress gave them a ‘path to citizenship’ and promised to secure the borders so the alien invasion would not repeat.
And here we are again, talking again about paths to citizenship for 20+ million illegals.
The Fortune 500 crowd and the wealthy elite just love our porous borders, a supply of cheap labor that helps drive down everyone else’s wages.
If you want to help seal the border, we need to repeal NAFTA, the Slick Willie brokered deal that sent USA grown and subsidized corn and wheat South.
Grain so cheap, the locals couldn’t compete, so they abandoned their farms in droves and headed to Norte Americano.
We also need to say ‘NO MAS’ to giving automatic citizenship to those who sneek across the border to have their kids born in the USA.
How about we just give Texas back to Mexico since it seems to be filled with gun slinging maniacs and puffed up politicans who spend more time buffing their body muslces and slicking back their hair than they do thinking.

Thank You Johnny P. for your long range vision of what I believe is the real future of North America. Native Americans populated the Americas before the Spanish, English and French arrived. The French are represented in the Americas in two locations, Quebec and French Guiana. The U.S. and Belize are the only official English speaking nations in the Americas. Canada chose to become bi-lingual by design, while the U.S. is becoming bi-lingual by default; and that is where I believe the problem arises. Many in the U.S. are angry because Spanish is encroaching into every sector of our lives without our consent. If Mexicans spoke English, I doubt there would be all the negative rhetoric directed towards them. No one is pointing fingers towards Canada and Canadian immigrants as cause for alarm. When we see groups of people speaking in a foreign tongue popping up all around us and forcing us to adapt to them, we feel threatened. However, no one will ever see that this as exactly what Native Americans must have experienced as Europeans moved in and just took their land and culture away from them. Is this Karma in action? I hope not! Will Mexico bails us out by becoming an official bi-lingual nation so that we English speaking people can start to see the future as it should be and accept Mexicans as the brothers and sisters that they truly are? After all, most of the West was Mexican Territory before we took it away from them.
I forgot that Haiti is the only predominantly Francophone independent nation in the Americas… its two official languages are Haitian Creole and French. They also are considered immigration problems because they look and sound different from the norm…

Well put sir! I sincerely thank you for the insight! And yes, I can empathize and understand the fears and concerns at the highest level.
In the long run, it seems we are headed for some sort of Spanglish Language over time as we morph into one continent, one people. We see it happening on both sides of the boarder. In Mexico, there was a sign that said “CAR WASH” and I asked a local how to say it in Spanish and they looked at me funny and said “CAR WASH”. Now I know that there is a Spanish equivalent but the local just accept “CAR WASH” as the phrase. Many signs in Mexico are now in English and its’ actually getting surreal how close and fast this is happening.
In USA, we see Spanish words used on TV by actors and in Commericals mixed in with out language. It’s evolving isn’t it?
Nevertheless, getting there is going to be a struggle and some are going to fight it to the very end.
You know, Mexicans actually have a super high level of national pride just like Canada and the USA so this stuff is NOT easy for any of the 3 nations. They have their resisters to evolution as well but just not given a media to project from so it remains a marginalized situation. Mexicans are moving forward much faster than the USA right now! It’s amazing what has gone on in the last 10 years and corporate bashing notwithstanding, we have many U.S. Corporations to thank!
Anyways, I just think our natural evolution is moving the way of cooperation and unity not isolation. I think it’s good that we all become one people! It’s much better than pretending to live on a island when we are in fact, living in the new global world. I mean Isolationism and Racism is so 20th Century! We need a better path and it’s coming now!

Arizona used to be part of Mexico until the US ripped off AZ and NM. That’s makes this country so great is that it’s a melting pot. Do you know how many illegal’s died in WWI, WWII, Nam, and todays war? They did it to protect their American dream. How many American “Citizens” served for this great Country?? Those who didn’t serve for this Great Nation should not even speak. If you ever really knew what some of the illegal’s felt about our Country, It would make you think about why AZ is starting this crap. When I served in the Corps with these people, I have never met someone so patriotic and so Gung Ho then the Mexican brothers a served with. They were willing to die for our Great Country, and as individuals, they are the most warmest people I ever known.

They got either green cards or naturalized. And they are proud of it. If they get pulled over for drunk or reckless driving, no big deal. Instead of pulling out insurance papers and their drivers license they may have to add their proof of the right to be in our country.
Now here is the problem. Does every American have to have an identity bracelet, chip implant, or citizenship card? Let me tell you, this is exactly what the oligarchs, including Obama want.

Hispanic people were marching around carrying signs saying how terrible America is (was). But none of them left town for greener pastures. The businesses were fined heavily (government accountants were happy), the illegals in jsil got a few free meals and were back out on the street. The solution? Personally I would have made the businesses pay fines heavy enough to pay for the meals and deportation. But that is too practical, too pragmatic. Oh well.
