Turncoat Sen Jim Webb’s Attempt to Take Down Shinseki Over Agent Orange Advocacy
- Sen. James Webb, D-Va. has made it perfectly clear that he is NOT a friend of the Veteran, nor an advocate for us -

(DA NANG, Vietnam) – Vietnam Veterans aren’t surprised by people turning on them and being generally against them; it began when the war was still raging and it has been an uphill battle for many who survived. It hurts the most however when those dolling out the punishment are fellow Vietnam Vets.But there are those who have stood fast; who dug in and fought for Veterans rights the way they or their loved ones fought in the blazing and sweaty jungles of SE Asia.
One person who appears to be on the side of Vietnam Veterans contaminated with the deadly Monsanto chemical Agent Orange, is Veterans Affairs Secretary Eric Shinseki. Perhaps he is one who knows that no amount of compensation could ever be enough. His victories in championing funds to assist Veterans and their families affected by Agent Orange, is now leading to a Senate hearing he didn’t want.
An example of his VA leadership is the decision to begin automating part of the cumbersome system that has resulted in so many thousands of veterans waiting for years, sometimes until the end of their lives, for compensation from their war injuries.
Shinseki said, “Veterans whose health was harmed during their military service are entitled to the best this nation has to offer.” He added, “We are undertaking an unprecedented modernization of our claims process to ensure timely and accurate delivery of that commitment.” [1]
It goes back to Sen. James Webb, D-Va., who has made it perfectly clear that he is NOT a friend of the Veteran, nor an advocate for us[2].
He is forcing The DVA, namely, The Secretary himself, to explain why three more illnesses are being recommended for the list.
Webb says he’ll use a Senate Veterans Affairs Committee hearing set for 23 Sept., to have Shinseki explain his decision to compensate Vietnam veterans, and many surviving spouses, for three more ailments including heart disease.
As the Montgomery Advertiser reported, “Shinseki announced last October that ischemic heart disease, Parkinson’s disease and B-Cell leukemia will be added to the list of illnesses presumed caused by exposure to defoliants, including Agent Orange, used to clear jungle in combat areas during the war.” [3]
Why Mr. Webb? You of all people know the struggle, the fact that this reckless chemical defoliant approach to fighting a war was wrong on the first place, you know how many died of cancer, from Agent Orange, and how many children have suffered. What of the children of Vietnam? Why after so many are gone, when there is hope, do you want to take the red marker to our lives?
There are those today with a brazen sense of greed, who seek to minimize the plight of the Vietnam Veteran and Agent Orange[4].
There is no credible way to do this, the loss is too severe and the governmental mistakes are too personal. The notion that Veterans were never compensated and yet Monsanto was allowed to go no, is insulting to all Americans. They are no friend of America, and their desire to force all American farmers and ultimately consumers, to adopt genetically modified (GM Food) products, could well lead to even more horrible problems. We as a nation never learn, and politicians are very lacking in real human integrity[5].
Right here in the comment section of Salem-News.com, Monsanto’s trolls of advocacy have been busy at work. One person using the name “Barney” wrote, “For you others, MONSANTO does not just make Agent Orange, they have improved the quality of life for the entire planet with their agricultural research and products. If you want to blame someone about AO, then go dig up LBJ and give him your concerns.”
But then a former U.S. Marine who uses the name G 2/3 who is a longtime friend of Salem-News.com’s Tim and Bonnie King, who served in Vietnam in the war’s most heated period, wrote:
“Barney, your statements are completely contradicting scientific evidence. I went back several times and along the DMZ all the way to the Laotian border there are still “clearcut” looking areas, vast areas in the frontier from defoliants from the war as well as multiple deaths yearly from unexploded ordinance, at the time I was doing this they’d stack the retrieved dud artillery rounds on the sides of the roads or trails to sell to the Japanese scrap metal industry. The birth defects recorded in villages near Khe Sahn were identical to the results on test animals during corporate research into dioxins. I don’t want to argue, go back yourself and head on down Hiway #9 in Quang Tri province, or Tay Nihn province near Saigon where the Army’s 25th Div. was located in Cu Chi. Or Tu Du hospital in Saigon where the people ruined by this agent are cared for. If it doesn’t break you heart you haven’t got one. Semper God Damn Fi!” [6]
Jim Webb is a decorated U.S. Marine combat Veteran, that should mean something, but examine the plight of Camp Lejeune Marines fighting the political system for their lives over contaminated water on that Marine base. Who is fighting the Marine Veterans and their families seeking compensation? A bunch of decorated higher echelon Marines, that is who. Don’t forget the Department of Defense and the Department of the Navy, but above and beyond that, the Marines have issued the statements, many false, for years in fact, and the AP proved that
I URGE you, please – contact your local US Senate and Congressional offices. Make it clear to them that you SUPPORT The Secretary’s recommendation. You DO NOT support the delay tactic that Sen. Webb is conducting.

Chuck Palazzo is a Marine Corps Vietnam Veteran, the Interim Editor for Agent Orange, and a longtime Vietnam Veterans Against the War Member. Chuck Palazzo has spent years since the war studying the impacts and effects of Agent Orange, a defoliant chemical sprayed by the U.S. govt. on the jungles of Vietnam. He says Dioxins have been re-discovered to cause all sorts of damage to humans. These include Heart Disease, Parkinsonism, Diabetes et cetera. Dioxins are already known to produce serious birth defects and a variety of cancers. The chemical is still sold in Third World Countries and is causing the same problems.

I keep saying this but it is all about money from the taxpayers, and who receives it. So far I see nothing from veterans past grand standing public proclamations.
I am betting this money goes to farm subsidies, and tax breaks for overly rich Americans, rich foreigners with investment in banking and Wall Street.
In my mind US politicians would rather ride in a corporate jet with money rich friends then support veterans.
The criticisms may be a bit unfair to senator Webb. It seems his main contention is that the new presumtives should be applied to veterans who were in the areas where the spraying was actually being done, and not to anyone who has a VN service ribbon.
Bill….you need to look at a map of the sprayed area in Vietnam to see what a wide section of the country was contaminated. Dioxin entered the soil,plant life,water system,which animals and humans fed on and drank. So as you see here anyone could be contaminated. All you have to do is look at the present day Danang and youll see that 39 years later it is polluted with dioxin at hundreds of times over what is a “safe” level. Mr Webb needs to do some research…I see that he doesnt know much about this subject….that much is clear !!

My Opinion of a PUKE like Jim Webb is that the Low Life like him doesn’t deserve to call himself a US Marine.. Let alone call himself a combat Veteran… I’d like to know just when and where he was in all this combat… I can tell by his way of thinking that the only combat he was near was from a chair behind some desk way back in a rear area somewhere… He never experienced a buddy blown to bits and dieing in his arms, he never shot and killed anyone, he sounds more like a FU–’n PU–Y than a real Marine, and has no RIGHT to challange Mr. Shinseki who is trying to clean up the Mess People Jim Webb have created….
It would be no big surprise if it came out in one of the news papers that Jim Webb was found sleeping with the Chemical Company’s, and that a lot of his income came from them… A real Marine wouldn’t be ANTI-VETERAN like Jim Webb seems to be…

He was elected in Virginia in 2006 (got 50 0/0 of vote).
Senators get a 6 year term so he will be around for quite a while.
He was awarded the NAVY CROSS….SILVER STAR….BRONZE STAR
and 2 PURPLE HEARTS in Vietnam under combat 1969.
HOWEVER in this recent Agent Orange Business he is wrong.
In 1991 OUR Supreme Court ruled that the V.A. would pay
compensation for certain cancers in that law suit AND
in the futrre they must add any new diseases scientifically
proven to be caused from Agent Orange. This, the V.A.
has done. end of argument.
Now Webb (Johny come late) seems to be saying, “If a few people
are sick (he never saw any agent orange) he is sorry
about that….BUT we can’t afford it”.
We NAM VETS are dying at a rate of 300 EVERY DAY
So Sen WEBB has stalled us for 2 monthes if he can just
keep it up for 10 more monthes, a year!!!?
109,500 more vets will be gone

Maybe now, we can get the compensation system updated if enough people raise hell about this latest BS. I agree with Webb, the whole system is unfair and broken. The VA needs to fix it.

I rode, in a duess-in-a half from the Delta Region up to Long-Bien, on the outskirts of Ho- Chi- Minh City as a PX supply clerk, for my unit, 2 times a month & sometimes took a different,longer route, to get there. Sometimes I did’nt know (or even think about) why the vegatation was gone on either side of the road(s) I traveled on….Hmmmmmm… Now 38 years later, after 2 major 5 ways on the old heart, ’06 & ’07 & my local Vet Doc said I have IHD, as did my Civilian Doc/Surgeon…. Did the Paperwork last summer… Looks like I am STILL doing the hurry-up-&-wait routine….. Back then & NOW

I was in country in 69 and also was in Cambodia In Nov of 69 and April 70, I was in real combat, both my tours , and I didn’t sit behind a desk giving myself medals and purple hearts In a company club with all my other clerk friends… Jim Webb Is A Fraud, where is Anyone that served with him in Viet Nam in 1969 to back up his play…. I don’t care who or what webb is or was. the only thing I
see what is going on is he doesn’t want any money spent on
worthwhile projects such as us veteran’s because he and the
other politicians who think his way, doesn’t want anything to
stand in the way of them having to wait for their paychecks.
Remember we are the ones who signs their checks, so no help
for us, and no pay for them. Veteran’s come first not traitors!

According to Senator Webb of VA any effects of Agent Orange in Vietnam Vets is related to old age. If that is so true then the numerous studies presently and in the past are all wrong. Mr Webb has now become a doctor and a endocrinologists. He is pounding his chest and will now have hearing on the additional three disease’s the secretary of VA has added to the long and growing list. It looks like he has become a wolf in sheep’s clothing and is willing to sit back and watch a nation of vets linger in this cesspool. People like Webb are outdated for this country.Our nation is full of people just like him. This is just another stalled tactic of his creation that rubs more salt in our nations wounds. How could he delay and try to take away the justice from the men who took the oath to defend this country. Then to top it all off how will he act toward the nations new heroes ? But what does he care, he is part of the problem . Go figure Mr Webb you call yourself a brother in arms?
Let’s hope Shinseki has all his ducks in a row for the Sept. 23 Senate Veterans Affairs Committee hearing so Webb can’t continue to use stall tactics to try to derail these long overdue payments.

surgery). Dr. says it’s only a matter of time until the next one. Both were way to early. Had to quit
my job of 35 years because company I worked for couldn’t afford my insurance anymore. No one
wants to hire a 62 year old with heart disease. Hoping they resolve this quickly…

The average rating for ischemic heart diseases is expected to be 60 percent. In calculating VA costs from this change, VA assumes that 80 percent of the eligible population will apply for benefits and 100 percent of those who do will be approved. Lets organize like the tea party organization. Vote in blocks against senators and congressmen like webb and others. Vote them out of office the vote is a powerful weapon and even old folks can use it. I am 58 and served almost 18 months in vietnam. I was 33 when I had my first of six heart attacks. I had a tripple by pass at age 48. Was I an old man. Honorable Daniel Akaka is over age 86 the same age as my mother. She says she is old and I am not. There is not a Vietnam Veterans Organization In Jackson, Mississippi. We should unite together and tell these polititions we are mad as hell at being shit on and we want take it any more.
