FEMA Plans to Evacuate Tampa Bay Area In Place?

The Wayne Madsen Report (WMR)  and the Examiner reported that FEMA has plans in place for the evacuation of the Tampa Bay  in the event of a controlled burn of oil threatening to take toxic plumes through Tampa Bay.

(TAMPA, Fla.) – There’s no question that the Gulf oil spill is the biggest environmental disaster in the history of this country and maybe the world.

FEMA has plans to evacuate the Tampa Bay area in the event of a controlled burn of surface oil in the Gulf of Mexico, or if wind or other conditions are expected to take toxic fumes through Tampa Bay, according to a report by Maryann Tobin in the Hernando County Political Buzz Examiner.

Tobin has been a freelance writer for more than twenty years, writing for local publications in New York and Florida. Maryann Tobin’s news story has generated high reader interest.  It’s obvious that the Gulf oil spill continues to be the leading story in the media as long as the oil well remains uncapped and the threat of exposure to environmental hazards like benezene exists.

For Maryann Tobin’s news story  on the FEMA plan to evacuate Tampa, see:  Florida Gulf oil spill: Plans to evacuate Tampa Bay area are in place – examiner.com  Maryann Tobin has been following the BP oil spill with a series of short, hard hitting news stories for weeks.  Click on this link for access to some of  Tobin’s news stories on the Gulf spill:  Search Results for “mary ann tobin gulf oil” – examiner.com

FEMA may use their hurricane evacuation plan for Tamp and other cities on the Gulf. Tobin reported that, “plans would be announced in the event of a controlled burn of surface oil in the Gulf of Mexico, or if wind or other conditions are expected to take toxic fumes through Tampa Bay.”

The hurricance seasons poses additional risks of a storm surge, which would push water and oil inland.  Art Horn, a metrologist from Manchester, Connecticut, writing in Energy Tribune on June 21st used the term “Oilcane” to describe the effects of  hurriane winds on the oil in the Gulf  from the BP’s gusher, “Should a major hurricane push the spill towards the gulf coast there will be nothing that can be done to stop it. No amount of planning or engineering will help. No number of visits to the gulf by the president or any other official will stop the inevitable. The storm surge will drive the water and the oil miles inland.”  Click on the following link to access Horn’s complete article, “An Oilicane?”

If you’re a conspiracy advocate and I’m not, you may see some devious FEMA plot to do away with people.  In fact, if the crude oil nears Tampa Bay and burn off is used on the oil spill, there may be health risk of inhalation exposure to inhabitants.  It follows that evacuation as in the case of a hurricane is a logical alternative.    An informed source told us on June 25th that there were reports of the smell of oil in the Tampa Bay area.  Real or imaginations running wild?

Joel Achenback, Washington Post staff writer, in an article of June 23rd entitled “Each Day Another Way to Define Worst-Case for Oil Spill,” reported that Matt Simmons, founder of Simmons and Co., an oil investment firm and “and since the April 20 blowout, the unflagging source of end-of-the-world predictions. “Can you imagine evacuating 20 million people? . . . This story is 80 times worse than I thought.”

The only thing for sure is that this story is not going away as long as the well  is unplugged and the crude oil continues to spread into the Gulf.

Chemicals in crude oil and dispersants can cause a wide range of health effects in people and wildlife, depending on the level of exposure and susceptibility.  Crude oil has many highly toxic chemical ingredients that can damage every system in the body.  Dispersant chemicals can affect many of the same organs.  For more information on this, see: Gulf Oil Spill Health Hazards – sciencecorps.org/

I am now a member of the “What’s right is right” party, screw the dems and republicans, they are all on the take along with corporations and big business. Obama is going to use this spill to shove his “cap and trade” tax down our throats. Bush=jerk, Obama=jerk.

just begin putting a big plastic wall around it, and empty the water as the oil replaces it.

  5. MikeF  June 30, 2010 at 11:51 am

Nope. I work in Tampa and I get notices from Hillsborough County emergency planning. They’ve said there are NO plans to evacuate Tampa Bay. And the oil smell thing was phony as well.

I pray you are right! if so, this is very, very good news!!

  6. Truth  June 30, 2010 at 11:51 am

If conservatives would just stop trying to run things we could get this country out of the whole it is in. Conservatives have been harping “drill baby drill” when they should have been saying “clean baby clean”– they think they know everything and they know nothing- now look at what their ignorance has cost us, nothing less then the Gulf Of Mexico!! I am tired of having to be pragmatic, I am tired of having to share the decision making process with complete and total failures.

If we can’t agree that conservatives don’t know how to lead then can we at least break this country up so the intelligent people can have a real chance at a better future and the conservatives can create the world’s largest nation of dumbed down, bumper sticker speaking, trailer park devotees the world has ever known.

That is hilarious someone still trapped in the Hegelian/liberal/conservative dadactic attempting to pass themselves off as intellectually superior. Please more comic relief.

    • wolf  July 4, 2010 at 2:13 am

      Here’s the Truth, Mister Truth:
“There is only one Establishment party – a political MONOPOLY. It appears to have two “wings” or branches to it – Republican and Democrat – and the gullible public believes that one of the parties has their interests at heart, or is somehow or in someway “better” than the other party. It’s so superficial, it’s like TV sports (any/all of them). People have their team and wear their team’s colors and watch their games – sometimes even travel to major cities to spend lots of money to watch their team live.

Time has proven that with Obama we have VERY LITTLE difference than if McCain/Palin would have been elected. The lesser of evils is still evil, after all. Why do those of you who voted for Obama not call him on his lies?

Obama is a Zionist-controlled politician just like Bush and Clinton.

Same thing with the media. It’s all owned by just 6 companies – all of them owned/controlled by Zionists. The media collectively has a “box” – one side of the box is “left”, “liberal”, Democrat starring Mathews, Olberman, etc. The other side of the box is “right”, “conservative”, Republican starring Limbagh, Hannity, O’Reilly and Coulter, etc. The media makes it SEEM like there are real differences between the two sides, and they go to great lengths to keep us from “seeing” the box, and they all know, pretty much from experience, that if they want to keep getting the big paychecks, that they do NOT want to get out of the box.”
      -Christopher Bollyn

    • Jim  July 4, 2010 at 3:47 pm

For someone trying to pass themself off as intellectually superior, know the difference between “whole”and “hole”.(reference the first sentence of your condescending diatribe)”Hole”,may be appropriate for you only if it had the letters a,s,and s in front of the aformentioned “hole”.

    • Joyce  July 5, 2010 at 1:04 pm

How can you blame this on conservatives?
the conservatives want to drill in anwar, where this would never have happened, but the whacko environmentalists, who don’t know crap about what they are forcing on this country( destroy it to save it!!) If they hadn’t forced us to drill so deep, this could have been fixed immediately, but because the whacko’s made us go so deep, we are watching a disaster of unprecedented proportion, and you can only attack the conservatives? Maybe we should have a trailer park for the whackos who think they are smart, but have caused a life threatening disaster.( They don’t care about the damage done to the humans, they only care about the marine and wildlife, they worship them!)And to hell with the humans, that’s how they feel, and if you are human, they have you in their cross hair so, duck!!

  7. Bets  June 30, 2010 at 11:46 am

There are those around here saying that they had intended to do this with the drill baby drill plan, but now they found another way to get the east coast as an addition.

It is thought that, deadly toxic fumes not withstanding, to ruin the fishing and shrimping industry, forcing people to eat deadly farmed hormone disrupting fish, or contaminated fish as the alternative, is a large part of the plan. They say it all conspires to get everyone sick and controlled on pharmaceuticals, which they are heavily invested in.

I don’t know what to think anymore.

  8. Survival Time  June 30, 2010 at 11:08 am

The ONE option I hope they never use is a nuclear detonation to seal the well shut. It could ignight the methan hydrate pockets under the gulf floor.

I’m also urging family/friends to be prepared for evacuation, or to stay im place if they can (having enough food/water on hand).

i just wanted to say…Thanks BP! thanks for ruining our country. thanks for making the price of gas go up again. thanks again for making the consumers pay for your blunders. the end of this world is near and it is all due to your blunders and greed.

  11. plug the well  June 30, 2010 at 10:13 am

The government needs to force BP to PLUG THE WELL. Not just attempt to contain while attempting to regain control over it. The government has restricted access to the well by placing a supena on the bop. I guess there’s just too much money being extracted from BP to be concerned with the environment. Do the right thing PLUG THE WELL !!!

I find it strange the media reported the EPA told BP to stop using the toxic dispersant Corexit 9500 but BP refused and I just saw where the US Air Force is spraying this same dispersant over the Gulf.

    • wolf  July 3, 2010 at 12:47 am

I don’t believe it is the USAF spraying this deadly toxin in America’s skies.

“The White House allowed BP to spray the highly toxic chemical, Corexit 9500, which is considered to be four to ten times more toxic than the oil itself. EPA told BP not to use Corexit 9500 and BP ignored the federal agency. Corexit is being sprayed at nighttime on coastal residences by the CIA-front, Evergreen Air, which reportedly also sprays chemtrails.”
-from Treachery In The Gulf by By Robbi Skye Campbell

Environmental engineer Joe Taylor has publicly warned BP to stop using Corexit immediately or everything in the sea is going to die. Taylor said that if he knew the information about the effect of Corexit then so did BP – ‘They have a lot of chemists who are a lot smarter than I am, and they know this.’

Why would BP be knowingly causing as much environmental devastation as possible? More importantly, why is our government allowing this? Aren’t they supposed to be protecting us?

Something smells really, really rotten here…and it AIN’T the oil…if you catch my drift…

    • wolf  July 3, 2010 at 12:57 am

Corexit is manufactured by a corporation called Nalco, once part of ExxonMobil, and the current leadership includes executives from Exxon and BP.

The European Union Times said of Corexit:

‘A dire report prepared for President Medvedev by Russia’s Ministry of Natural Resources is warning today that the British Petroleum (BP) oil and gas leak in the Gulf of Mexico is about to become the worst environmental catastrophe in all of human history threatening the entire eastern half of the North American continent with “total destruction” …

… Russian scientists are basing their apocalyptic destruction assessment due to BP’s use of millions of gallons of the chemical dispersal agent known as Corexit 9500 which is being pumped directly into the leak of this wellhead over a mile under the Gulf of Mexico waters and designed, this report says, to keep hidden from the American public the full, and tragic, extent of this leak that is now estimated to be over 2.9 million gallons a day.’

You might think at first hearing that it is blatantly crazy to use Corexit when there are some 12 other less toxic and more effective dispersants approved by the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Two of those on the EPA list ‘were found to be 100 percent effective on Gulf of Mexico crude, while the two Corexit products rated 56 percent and 63 percent effective’.

Well, yes, it is crazy, these people are crazy, but there is method in their madness. And their madness is pure evil.

  17. L.W. Brown  June 29, 2010 at 6:10 pm

Sorry – as bad as this is for the US and Gulf residents, it ain’t /NUTHIN/ like the Bhopal disaster in India, including long-term. We need to consider how lucky we have all been, even as we press for new & better energy & environmental policies, as well as legal & economic relief, and prosecution of (pretty obvious) negligence & other wrongdoing…

    • Mike Adkison  July 7, 2010 at 1:11 pm

You couldn’t be more wrong. A lot of people died in the Bhopal disaster, but it was an isolated incedent. It was confined to an area directly surrounding the factory. The gas dissapated, and things got back to normal. The oil disaster stands to get much worse than it already is. If the oil gusher were stopped today, it would still be a disaster that would be felt for decades. Many people have already been exposed to large amounts of very poisonous chemicals, and their lives will be greatly shortened and they will suffer terrible health problems. The oil gusher has the potential to kill millions of people, or even an extinction event, where much of the life on our planet will die. If you can’t see that, you have watched too many Hollywood movies where everything turns out great in the end.

  18. Karen  June 29, 2010 at 1:56 pm

Maryann, why don’t you call 727-820-3700 and save the Coast Guard Lt. Col time and money, and provide him with the source of this “rumor”. He is trying to track it down as of this moment. Thanks.

If every one has not figured out by now, the Governments refusal to lift the Jones Act to safe guard Union request. Not to have to much help for this spill to register enough bad PR for Carbon fuels so he can pass his Cap and Tax bill, His “Obama” Golden energy plan regardless if we can afford it or not. He is in the delusion that corporate America has an endless supply of money the Gov needs. Unfortunately to much of this money ends up into a few privileged folks hands,at the expense of the working man. Those that are above the entitlement pay grade.

  20. Glenn  June 29, 2010 at 5:33 am

To stop this oil spill, you use a giant flexible tube, like a condom. You hoist it over the leaking oil, and like a string on a pair of sweat pants, pull it tight around the pipe. All oil will rise up thru the tube to the surface, then pumped onto boats at the surface. Simple, easy solution…………..

Google News search “Evacuate Tampa” a lot of articles pop-up.

HOT! Fema just releases plans to evacuate Tampa Bay, BP Oil Spill
It’s obvious that the Gulf oil spill continues to be the leading story in the media as long as the oil well remains uncapped and the threat of exposure to environmental hazards like benezene exists. (And out would guess other gasses too!)

Heard today the former President Bill Clinton said if they do not contain
this gusher, The Navy may have to blow it up. We’re talking Nuking the
Well. Last case scenario, but better then not doing anything at all.
For you folks that live in the area, get the flock out. When the storms
come and they will, it’s going to be very nasty. Also, start making plans
to leave now before the massive diaspora starts. It will be alot easier
on you folks. God bless you. You and the blessed creatures and the beautiful
coasts do not deserve any of this. Our prayers are with you.

With all those UN/FEMA vehicles in Florida….how did they know it was going to be a problem before the problem existed. Planned Incident? What really happen in Gulf?

I wonder what they would do if the oil worked its way up the Atlantic, right up the Potomac River into President Osama, Sorry, President Obama’s back yard. Would they evacuate Washington DC ? Get smart Washington, you are hurting our country to the worst extent. Ban all water drilling, tell them to drill in the dirt somewhere. Is it worth poisoning half of Floridians with smoke and half of the Gulf of Mexico and maybe the Atlantic Coast with oil? Hell with the money and jobs. How many jobs has the oil killed foating around? Just another persons useless talk into space. Good Night

OB might just get a taste of his own medicine…

Everyone start planting lots of trees NOW to replace the huge volumes of atmospheric oxygen to be consumed by combustion. The fires prevent oil from becoming condensation but they consume oxygen from the atmosphere. Plant trees. Now.

Lets hope something gives before it comes on up east coast. Other countries wanted to help but OB (a ggggrrrrrr) did not allow help! Why?

I don’t think the smell of oil in the Bay area is imagined. A few of my friends went canoeing this weekend (Saturday?). They came back going on about the mounds of dead fish and the stink. My roommate swam in the water and said it was horrifically disgusting. None of these guys are following the oil spill or even care about it. To them it’s not really happening, because it’s not affecting them. All the while I get to see photos and video of my the areas I lived in as a kid (Mobile, Gulf Shores, Pensacola). It’s sickening.

This is a capitalistic economy. BP took a chance with shoddy engineering, and it caught up with them. Including killing 11 people, and injuring (possibly horribly burned) 20 something others.

They cannot dump their garbage in other peoples yards any more then you or I can. So they need to pay and pay and pay. Tough s#!t for the investors, but thats risk and reward in our financial system.

Good for Obama to have brought them to the table. A couple years of zero profits may make an impression on them and other businesses.

The other big question is whether the brass should be held liable for criminal negligent manslaughter. We’ll see. That would really give pause to some of the companies out there, by sending a signal that we will protect our people from their criminal negligence
