McChrystal May Have Accelerated a Policy Change to a Very Foolish War

Afghanistan War

Afghanistan War

Stupid, Pointless, and Ineffective War

By Henry Blodget in the Business Insider

We gather that the reason the Armydecided to give a Rolling Stone reporter access to Gen. Stanley McChrystal and staff was the hope that Rolling Stone would reach the young Americans that the Army wants to encourage to enlist. That thinking backfired, obviously.  But it wasn’t crazy thinking. And it certainly makes it easier to understand why the Army let Rolling Stone hang out with the general in bars.

In hindsight, General McChrystal bet his job on the article, and we can imagine that he now feels pretty stupid and awful about it.  But unlike so many others in our country, Gen. McChrystal didn’t react to this mistake by blaming someone else.  He accepted responsibility and took the consequences–which, after the fact, is all anyone could ask him to do.

And although we’re sure that General McChrystal, the Army, and the Obama administration view the article as a complete disaster, we actually don’t think it was.

Specifically, we want to thank Gen. McChrystal for something.

General McChrystal

We want to thank him for reminding us about what a stupid, pointless, and ineffective war we’re fighting in Afghanistan.  We want to thank him for forcing Defense Secretary Robert Gates to admit that progress in Afghanistan is much slower than he had hoped.  We want to thank Gen. McChrystal for refocusing the country’s attention on our latest quagmire, one that, at this rate, will eventually last longer than Vietnam.

If General McChrystal’s replacement General Petraeus can turn things around in Afghanistan, then the article will have been very helpful to the country.  Similarly, if the renewed attention to Afganistan reminds Americans of how little we have accomplished, how much money and time we have spent, and how many lives have been lost, the article might lead to a speedier end to the war.

  1. Stan the Man knows exactly what he is doing and is saving lives in the bigger picture. One could say he is truly a patriot and not a politician.

    • So how much money have we spent on the war since 9/11?
      Bob in Atlanta

      • Michael J Volz

one to three trillion before it’s all over

divide that by 280 million Americans; it would have been better if we sent them all a check FOR DOING NOTHING AND WHATS WRONG WITH THAT? THEY ARE THE OWNERS OF THIS COUNTRY!

THE ECONOMY WOULD BE BOOMING NOW IF THAT HAD BEEN DONE.

BUT THE HOLOCAUST SURVIVORS AND JEWISH “SECURITY EXPERTS” WOULD NOT BE NEEDED . EVEN WOLF BLITZER WOULDN’T HAVE A JOB BECAUSE THERE WOULD BE NO NEED FOR HIM TO “EXPLAIN” MIDDLE EAST AFFAIRS AND HOW BAD MUSLIMS ARE!!!!!!

  2. War is always a racket for the majority – but wars have always been fought for greed and power. Aghan war was also for greed – oil and poppy. however, sadly, the main beneficiary is not the US but Israel.

  3. They don’t want to make progress in Afghanistan. They will be happy to build their oil and gas piplines to the Capsian sea and still make money fightinjg the Taliban. It is all about endless wars, drugs and stealing energy and resources.

Just look at which companies have the deals for supplying the military, and providing medical supplies. The Taliban grow the poppies to buy arms from the dealers. The US tax payer gets taxed to pay for the war while the large Corps take the the oil and resources.A $ trillion in minerals now found in Afghanistan.Lots of lithium for the battery industry.

These international cartels need to be broken up.They have too much influence on our Govts.Freedom or facism? The choice is yours.

When Mcchrystal said we have shot a lot o people but I haven’t seen any evidence that any of them were a real threat he exposed the underlying nature of zionist “war on terror”.

It was never meant to win. There is no real enemy. The only purpose has been for the zionists to show the Muslim world that we control America and will will bring them over any time you do not accept our preeminence.

The American actions are just like carpet bombing of Muslim countries prior the real invasion which is the Israeli opportunists showing up to lay down the fabric for institutional control of the country.

They have never cared about the details as long as chaos was established and any cultural or governmental control was put in shambles.

They have essentially done the same in the USA for the last forty years. Just how all the chaos falls out when the smokes clears is not important . Just as long as the society in destroyed is the only important goal. That the remaining population be so desperate they will be like bedbugs willing to attach to any zionist ladder dropped to them.

That was the purpose of the Civil War in America; to destroy the society so it could be organized on a new framework of jewish control. They have been very very very successful war in Iraq for the jews. It has been an absolute total win for Israel. Afghanistan, if we pulled out tomorrow is an absolute total victory for Israel. Mission accomplished; All objectives obtained.

Perhaps that is why Obama has expanded the war. It is a “GOOD WAR” for the jews; like the Civil War in America which he has said was a GOOD WAR.

Mcchrystal saying it is a total farce as the neocons like to say, “is not helpful”.

  6. Found the story below on Presstv – yes Iranian media, but it is interesting to read the media from around the world.

‘Obama fired McChrystal to rid 2012 rival’

The following is a rush transcript of Press TV’s interview with former US Senator and presidential candidate Mike Gravel on the controversy surrounding the commander of US and NATO forces in Afghanistan, Gen. Stanly McChrystal.

Press TV:How damaging has this whole episode been for the US-led mission in Afghanistan?

Gravel: I do not think [it has been] damaging at all. You have to keep in mind that the strategy for Afghanistan was developed by General [David] Petraeus, who was the commander of McChrystal. Now, McChrystal was merely the thug, I use the word ‘thug’ advisably because the reputation with McChrystal is of course the secret special ops, which were a lot of assassination teams.

So, McChrystal was merely the henchman that was bringing about the strategy. But, there is an unusual benefit that occurs politically that I don’t think is appreciated by anybody on the scene. That is that Petraeus was looked upon as a possible presidential candidate on the Republican side, opposing [US President Barack] Obama when he runs for re-election.

Now, Petraeus was distanced from Afghanistan, and so, very cleverly, President Obama has demoted Petraeus and put him in charge of Afghanistan. So, if a failure takes place as I presume it will by 2012, the failure will be owned as much by Petraeus negating his ability to be a viable presidential candidate and will benefit Obama.

Press TV: The father of the counter-insurgency strategy is Petraeus himself, whoever it is, if it is coming out of the Pentagon, White house; from the public into the media, everyone is backing this counter insurgency strategy. They are saying it is going to work. But what is it saying behind the scenes?

Of course, there was that leak document from [US ambassador to Afghanistan, Karl] Eikenberry, and McChrystal said that he was very upset about that, that he felt betrayed. Behind the scenes, how much unity is there on this coin strategy?

Gravel: Well there was no unity at all because McChrystal was a bowl in a china shop. This is not McChrystal’s strategy; this is Petraeus’ strategy that was being implemented by a lesser person — which is McChrystal.

Now that McChrystal is out of the way, and keep in mind, McChrystal is very close to President Hamid Karzai, and so I am sure that the attitude that is put out in the media in Afghanistan is that, oh well we loved McChrystal, he was fine. But keep in mind that McChrystal’s strategy was that of assassination or bribery, and you had your choice, and that strategy was developed by Petraeus in Iraq, and it carried over into Afghanistan. And so I think you are going to see no change at all from a military point of view, but you will see a much improved diplomatic strategy; because; Petraeus is a very gifted diplomat; much more than he is a soldier.

Press TV: A part of this counterinsurgency or this coined strategy is having that dual approach, working with the community as well as having, this military aspect to it. In your point of view, how can this be assessed?

Because we have to point out as well that we have just seen the bloodiest day for NATO soldiers since the war began, so on those figures people would ask ‘are we actually wining this?’

Gravel: Of course we are not winning this, and there is no way we can win it. The strategy that they have put forward is that they are going to try to bribe the various, tribal leaders, and those that they can’t bribe, they will kill. This is interesting that the view from Kabul is not very realistic as to what has happened. Those casualties are a product of McChrystal’s implementation of the Petraeus strategy — which is not going to change.

And now what we see is that there is all kinds of corruption that has gone on with American contractors in Afghanistan. This is going to follow the pattern of Afghanistan, [the pattern] of history. And that is that empires have really lost everything when they tried to conquer Afghanistan. And that is what we are trying to do.

Keep in mind, it is not a security operation, it is a conquering operation, and it won’t work at all.

  7. The only reason Obama fired McChrystal is because McChrystal really knew what the
Obama administration is doing. Obama knows when this all fails, he will need a
military leader to blame it on; Petraeus will now be that man. He sure as hell won’t blame it on his civilian administrators or himself, if their so-called policy
fails. In any case, McChrystal should take his pension and run. Hell, the talk shows will make him a millionaire overnight, if they haven’t already done so.

  8. David A. White

If the United States wins the wars in Irag and Afghanistan, what exactly are we winning?

  9. Both Wars are complete SHAMS. THEY WERE STARTED FOR THE NEW WORLD ORDER TO GET FILTHY RICH. World Economy’s struggle because of these bast. imbeciles.

  10. Add to ‘saved’ cost of maintaining the wheels of the war raket spinning and Israel afloat, the cost of the destruction of the occupied contries, the slaughter and misery, we caused to civilians and not forgetting the unnecessary lost lives of Americans, Danes, English, French, Italians, Spanish, Germans, Dutch, etc., … and the $700+ billion given to the Banksters to rescue the Zion-Talmudic Mafiosi thieves.

  11. If Gen. McChrystal is genuine in his heart and prepared to lead in the war for truth and ideals he’ll become a prominent figure demanding the reinvestigation of 9/11, the event that has gotten us to this point.

  12. I always thought that Brack O’Bama was going to INVESTIGATE the Republicans and Bush in getting America involved in two worthless wars. i wonder if the Democrats have any BALL’S.????????????? the down fall of the economy and everything else was all planned. america will never get rid of the TRASH in our government. also what is wrong with our government letting the ZIONEST STATE OF ISRAEL GOVERNMENT CONTROL OUR FEDERAL GOVERNMENT?????????????? only thing i can think of is ISRAEL controls the banking system around the world.( MONEY CONTROLS THE WORLD ) GREED IS ALL ABOUT GOVERNMENTS.

  13. Great information! I’ve been looking for something like this for a while now. Thanks!
