Bladder cancer support helps veterans
By Sylvia L. Ramsey
I am a widow of a veteran, a child of a veteran and a mother of veterans. I saw the article that was posted about the high incidence of bladder cancer in veterans and the article about the veteran who couldn’t afford surgery. I am a 15 year survivor of bladder cancer and I am also the Vice President of the American Bladder Cancer Society. We have helped others find information about funding for treatment.
We are a non profit organization whose main purpose is to provide awareness, information and support. We have no paid board members. We are all survivors or spouses of survivors. We are trying to get the word out so that people have a place where they can find information on the disease, where they can get treated and information like the young man in the article needed.
We also have forums and a chat room where one may interact with others who are victims of this cancer. Veterans who have been diagnosed with this disease or want to know more should know that there is a place they can go for information and support. Hopefully, your magazine will help to let the veterans know this information.
Our website is http://www.bladdercancersupport.org/. If you would like more information, feel free to contact me at: sylvialramsey@sylvialramsey.com.
