Senator James Webb Responds to Agent Orange Letter
Senator Webb, We Want You on our Side!
But the Agent Orange Science is Clear………
What follows is the written reply to a brother Veteran from U.S. Veteran Senator James Webb regarding his (the senator’s) stall tactics as it relates to the additional three presumptives on Agent Orange exposure. More rhetoric like a good US Senator, has this guy has forgotten his Veteran roots?
I urge all Veterans to do the same as our brother has done and write to Senator Webb. We must get this guy back on our side.
Thank you for contacting my office regarding veterans affected by Agent Orange. I appreciate your taking the time to share your views.
Our nation has a special obligation to provide health care to our service members and veterans, particularly those with an injury or illness resulting from their service. I have spent my entire adult life advocating on behalf of veterans and will continue to fight for the best interests of the men and women who serve our nation in uniform. Furthermore, from 1977 to 1981 I had the honor of serving as a full committee counsel on the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs, and spent a great deal of time working on this specific issue.
On March 25, 2010, the Secretary of the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) announced his intention to add B-cell Leukemia, Parkinson’s disease, and coronary artery disease to the list of presumptive conditions associated with exposure to Agent Orange. This decision was taken without full consultation with the Congress. Consequently, during consideration of the bill to provide funding for this determination, I introduced an amendment clarifying that under existing law the VA is required to provide a 60-day congressional review period prior to spending funds under the proposed new regulation. I am a staunch defender of Congress’s constitutional oversight responsibility. To that end, I have requested that the VA provide the scientific data used by the Secretary to make his determination. He is now scheduled to do so in a hearing that will be held in September.
As a Vietnam combat veteran, former full committee counsel to the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs, and as a current member of the Senate Committees on Armed Services and Veterans’ Affairs, I take a back seat to no one in my concern for our veterans. Your views on veterans affected by Agent Orange are very helpful to me and my staff, and I hope that you will continue to share your views with us in the years ahead. I would also invite you to visit my website at http://www.webb.senate.gov/ for regular updates about my activities and positions on matters that are important to Virginia and our nation.
Thank you once again for contacting my office.

How many times in your life time have you herd a politician tell you one thing and do another? How many times have have you found them all saying they have our best interest at heart but don’t? How many times have you found them in a big lie?
Mr. Webb has spent his entire life time fighting for the vet’s. Well Mr. Webb if you have done such a good job why the hell has it taken so long to clear up this small matter? I see your like everyone else, just ducking the problem until your confronted with it. Why haven’t you stood up to the plate and tackled this problem for the Vet’s? But no, you just publish another bull crap letter trying to cut it off at the pass. A group of high school students could solve this problem.
I demand that you step up to the plate and solve this issue once and for all, or REMOVE yourself from the committee you profess to serve. Until then go beat your chest with the other chip monks in that rotten sea of stink in DC.
Tell us what you really think, Chekawa! Good post.
T.V.
Step up to the plate is exactly the right phrase! If he has been in Congress for this many years he should be at the forefront of fighting for veterans,…where the hell has he been?
He is a VN vet only in name not in action—it is really a shame that he has forgotten his roots-who says power does not corrupt.
Who did he sent this letter to? The lady that wrote the letter yesterday? I understand there is now proof of how Agent Orange causes cellular change. Is the
VA Secretary going to present that? Is any unpolitical person going to be at these hearings? Will we be able to know what was presented and addressed? Why do they not ask the veteran and his wife to present their opinions? Or do they? I have not paid much attention to Agent Orange until the last two years. Sorry to say that now. It has affected our lives greatly. I don’t want to sound like I am whining; I just want my friends who don’t have benefits to get them.
I read the piece on Senator James Webb and Agent Orange. I also went to write him a note online and I noticed he does not respond to people not residing in Virginia. Does he not realize that being on the Committee on Veteran’s Affairs that he represents more than just the voters of Virginia??? Since he chooses not to respond to his veterans unless they are constituents from Virginia perhaps Veterans Today could start an online petition to protest his delaying tactics. I’m sure he uses the same tactics and constitutional oversight grounds on all funding he votes on!!! Since I’m sending this I would like to request that Veteran’s Today do some research or an editorial concerning why The NAS takes so long to make the same discoveries independent studies made long ago? Government agency perhaps? Funded by the government perhaps? Conflict of interests? Impossible!!!!
Dear Vets,
The medical establishment in this country has been controlled for a long time by those that own the bulk of pharmaceutical stock. Read “Your Life Is Their Game” by Emmanuel Josephson MD and Empty Harvest. You will discover why science that is independent takes so long to make it through the specialized interests of industrialized medicine.
VOTE OUT THE INCUMBENTS. VOTE FOR INDEPENDENTS THIS FALL. LET’S CLEAN HOUSE.
The VA has been studying the effects of Agent Orange for decades..my husband was determined to have the effects 10 years AFTER he was discharged in 72, BY the VA!!-three tours & he still fights today to get the recognition he deserves..he not only was exposed but actually loaded the crap on airplanes..for crying out loud, how much more time does the Congress need??? Now after 40+ years, major open heart surgery, conjestive heart difficultys and most recently diagnosed with diabetes, a
US Senator and VIETNAM VET shoots down and DELAYS service connection. Politicians have no right to interfere with the determinations of educated doctors. The good senator from Va., has health care for life, voted himself a raise this year, (while our disability payments are frozen-no cost of living increase)& he’s set for life! Makes his living disrupting and controlling the fate of the vets who are still suffering..Virginia Vets-vote this guy out of office!! You’ll be doing all of us, vets, wifes, and children of vietnam vets all a favor..
WE DO NOT NEED weeb !!! WE NEED MORE PEOPLE LIKE CONGRESSMAN JOHN HALL OF NEW YORK!! A TRUE FRIEND OF THE VETERANS !!!! NOT THIS JACKASS weeb !!! THANK YOU senator weeb !! AT LEAST ANOTHER 60 DAYS BEFORE OUR VETS CAN SEE MORE HELP WITH AGENT ORANGE !!! HOW MANY MORE VETS WILL DIE BEFORE MORE HELP COMES !!
VIETNAM VETERAN
TET OFFENSIVE 1968 – 1968
” IN GOD WE TRUST “
I agree!! Sometimes I think they are just waiting for my husband to die
or give up and go away..he has every KNOWN ailment/problem attributed to Agent Orange!!-Yet over and over he’s put off..Now this itiot in Virginia Senator who still is using politics to stall longer..I think Webb is a traitor to ALL Nam vets..
Welcome Home Brothers
Senator Webb
This is like using a legal technicality to block good intentions of part of the VA. The veterans, as you are well aware of, see the VA as its worst enemy. And this time that the VA is attempting to do something that would benefit the veteran, you of all in Congress pulls this legal mumbo jumbo and delay this much needed benefits for veterans who suffered from Agent Orange. It has gotten your name in the news. Is that why you are doing this? You had support of veterans, but it is eroding and it seems like we can not count on you anymore.
Anyone who has watched this jackass over the past knows he is only out for himself and those who contribute to his campaign fund. Wouldn’t doubt there are some CHEMICAL COMPANIES on that list. I wonder how some people lay down and sleep at night. May God bless the vets.
In actuality all in congress, the White House, and IRS to name but a few should be pulled out and face a firing squad for treason, and I say that for good reason.
I don’t want a puke like Jim Webb on my side!!!!!
I don’t want a bonehead like him in OUR GOVERNMENT period….
Anyone that backs this corard with his Paper Medals, is as bad as he is…
He doesn’r deserve any votes, and any VETERAN that backs him is in the same catagory…
You’d think that any funds that a Veteran get comes out of his pocket, and probably could…
It amazes me that when your in politics getting paid $180,000.00 a year and can become a millionair over night… How does that work??? He’s a F–K’N crook just like the rest when it comes down to it…
He used his “vet” status to get elected, he doesn’t give a damn now. He like the rest have gotten a taste of the good life of being a “public servant” not to mention the millions in campaign donations, and kickbacks under the table. Fuck him and every no good piece of shit representatives who really are working for Israel and their interest. He’d be fragged in country this low life MF.
In my twenty years as a dir of a county veterans office, I fought the VA for all of those twenty years and saw a good many brothers of Vietnam die. After they were gone it was another battle to get DIC benefits for the widow and sometimes children. I was pleased with many battles I won but for Vietnam vets it always was an up hill hard fight.
Oh yes, I forgot to mention that John McCain was not always in the veterans corner either. Just look at his voting record.
Note that emails will be sent to Sen. Webb from his web site but only constituents will receive a response. He will still receive messages. I encourage everyone to write. Note: Keep in clean and don’t name call. That won’t get us anywhere. Below is a message that I sent.
Dear Mr. Senator…having just read your life bio on Wikipedia…especially about your Navy Cross citation…I have to say “thank you” and I salute you most respectfully. While I may not always agree with you, I do respect you. Having said that Mr. Senator, in respect of the Agent Orange link to the three latest illnesses…I have to say “Shame On You.” I served two tours and as for these illnesses being diseases related to “aging”, I had my first of five heart attacks two months after I turned 40. I had a double by-pass at age 42. I now have a Pacemaker/defribulator implant and my doctor put me out of work in 1995 because my ejection factor is 26. I have diabetes type II. I’m not overweight and was diagnosed with Type II in 2000 at age 52. Is that old? I think not. I can only say to you Mr. Senator….Shame On You.
Respectfully,
Charles Stewart
Senator Webb is a good for nothing JACKASS. he caters to the ELITE like he is. i wonder how this moron can make it in life. o i forgot he is on the take like all politicans.
I wish to thank the honorable gentleman from Virginia for his speedy reply re The Agent Orange letter. A vet myself, I was diagnosed with Parkinson’s in 1998. I recognize in the good Senator from Virginia some of the same symptoms I have had to deal with over the years of which inability to think clearly is one. I strongly urge the gentleman to register with the VA as it seems he might have taken a direct hit.
I was young and vibrant once…………Now I’m just old and vibrate!
Senator webb will you try to wait until all Vietnam Vets die from agent orange before you allow the Va to do what is right? I think so. You are a lap dog for obama, big business and big government. You have yours and could care less about the rest of the Vets you served with in Nam. Too bad the NVA or VC didn’t finish the job. Veterans and the world would be better off. After all the billions given to big business we would think the men and women that put their lives on the line to make it possible would be taken care of. Webb has no loyalty but to the dollar bill. He likes to brag about being a “combat” veteran and takes a back seat to no one supporting vets what a liar. Anyone so vain to dye his hair the way he does says a lot about his character or lack of. Hope the folks in Virgina vote this clown out of office soon.
Perhaps every veteran that has relative or friend in the senators area should move to VA several months prior to his next election. And register to vote there. Get his a– out of there. Thats what I plan on doing. lets make a bit of a sacrifice of our own the will help the vets. Then maybe he will have to find a real job where you accually have to earn your money instead of having it handed to him by a buntch of corrupt lobiets.
The reason congress set the law up in 1991 the way they did was that they knew a webb would come along. The court ruling yesterday giving the VA 30 days was correct. If the congress and webb can’t support and live up to their promises then bring the troops home. Take away all his benefits from congress and see what happens, see what tune he sings. We give millions of dollars to his wife’s homeland every year take that money and take care of the Vets, see how happy the webb household is. The man lives in a glass house he shouldn’t throw rocks. I do not smoke and at 6’2″ and 220 lbs am not fat until my heart attack I bench pressed 380 lbs. His argument of ishemic heart disease is old age and smoking is BS. I served in I Corp with the 3rd Mar. Div.was at Khe Sanh and all the other hell holes along the way. Don’t you dare question my service to this country webb. Would like to have seen the action where you became a hero. You question my service,I can return the favor. People in Virginia need to vote this clown out of office.
What does the 30 day rule mean for us?
Senator Webb…. Your words do NOT match your actions. I hope you can live with the fact that some of the brave men who served in Viet Nam will be receiving their compensation posthumously due to your grandstanding.
Senator Webb I was 33 when I had my 1st of 6 major heart attacks. I was only 49 when I had a triple bypass. I have type II diabeties. I am not yet 60 years old. Was I old when I suffered the troubles you claim are old peoples health problems. I spent 18 months in Vietnam not just one day. I agree with all that has been said here. We Vietnam Veterans should band together and vote together removing people Like You from office. What troubles the average citizen does not trouble you because you are set for life after you are elected to the high office you hold. My email address is timohut1@gmail.com anyone can contact me it doesn’t matter what state you live in
Lets band together and vote James Webb from office.
TIM HUTSON
It is not too late for the good senator to find himself suffering from the effects of agent orange exposure, if he was exposed. I would think he’d sing a different tune then. Time will tell.
Dear Mr.Webb, You are a traitor to your brothers in arms, you have betrayed our trust. Vietnam vets are still fighting for respect for us the less fortunet, than yourself are dying off with no closure and no respect from America for our service.
If my health were better I would enlist again. I Love Our Flag, and our country.
you I could without
In 1964, General Shinseki was a senior at West Point. During his years at the Academy, West Point had lost all three Army-Navy football games (1961,1962,1963). 1964 was the last chance for the Class of 1965 to get a victory.
In 1964,Webb was in his first year at the Naval Academy. 1964 was his first Army Navy game.
Army won, 11 to 8; the cadets were elated, the midshipmen were very dejected. Perhaps Senator Webb has never recovered from the loss in 1964. It may be he is attacking actions by General Shinseki because he still feels the sting of defeat and wants revenge.
