Shirley Sherrod to Sue Andrew Breitbart

Shirley Sherrod, victim of slander sues serial liar

SAN DIEGO — Ousted Agriculture Department employee Shirley Sherrod said Thursday she will sue a conservative blogger who posted an edited video of her making racially tinged remarks last week.

The edited video posted by Andrew Breitbart led Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack to ask Sherrod to resign, a decision he reconsidered after seeing the entire video of her March speech to a local NAACP group. In the full speech, Sherrod spoke of racial reconciliation and lessons she learned after initially hesitating to help a white farmer save his home.

She said she doesn’t want an apology from Breitbart for posting the video that took her comments out of context, but told a crowd at the National Association of Black Journalists annual convention that she would “definitely sue.”

Vilsack and President Barack Obama later called Sherrod to apologize for her hasty ouster. Vilsack has offered her a new job at the department, which she is still considering.

“I have many, many questions before I can make a decision,” Sherrod told the group. “I don’t know what will happen from this day forward in terms of whether I’ll be back in the department or what I’ll do.”

E-mails to Breitbart’s Web sites seeking comment were not immediately returned Thursday morning.

Obama said Thursday morning on ABC’s daytime talk show “The View” that the incident shows racial tensions still exist in America.

“There are still inequalities out there. There’s still discrimination out there,” Obama said. “But we’ve made progress.”

Obama pinned much of the blame for the incident on a media culture that he said seeks out conflict and doesn’t always get the facts right. But he added, “A lot of people overreacted, including people in my administration.”

  1. [...] This post was mentioned on Twitter by Áine MacDermot, Veterans Today. Veterans Today said: Veterans Today: Shirley Sherrod to Sue Andrew Breitbart http://www.veteranstoday.com/2010/07/29/shirley-sherrod-to-sue-andrew-breitbart/ [...]

  2. She’s a proven expert at suing. But I think with Breitbart, or whatever his name is, she’s got herself tangled with a wildcat. She will not leave that match without being scarred and humbled.

    • the old warrant

I hope she burns his ass. and makes him homeless

      • I’ll make you a bet, old warrant, that Breitbart eats her lunch. She’s just trying to reap her maximum PR first. When Breitbart unloads both barrels on her, you are going to see that chick and her hubby run for cover claiming racial bias. Obama will look like a hero for dumping her (she can sue the Whitehouse for bus tire tracks on her back.

As for me? I’m going to enjoy watching the battle. I don’t know either one, but somethings gotta keep Rangel off the front page, which is adding to the Demos from getting trounced in November.

When Sherrod’s full story comes out, including the rumor that she’s financially connected to Little O’s great friend, Bill Ayers, watch out! Of course then, there is the other rumor that one of her farmer neighbor ladies got beheaded for not sharing the scammed loot in the lawsuit against the Dept. of Ag — which may or may not have merit — who knows. It will all make Rangel look like a choir boy.

I acknowledge I might have my facts wrong. They’re probably much worse than what I mentioned.

Now, you and I will have to figure out what the payoff is when one of us loses. It can’t be much more than a free lunch for the winner. After all, I’m a real Vet and I assume you may be.

I’m also assuming, you’ll concur, that you’re betting on Sherrod, and I get Breitbart. You have one week from this Thursday at midnight to decide, or the deal’s off.

In the interim, you can run for cover. :-)

        T.V.

  3. I listened to the complete audio of her remarks
and the edited version was most certainly crafted
    to misrepresent Shirley Sherrod .

I think Andrew Breitbart didn’t know
about the whole of her remarks,
who ever gave him that edited clip did him
    no favors.
He did seem rather confident about it,
    like he had sincere confidence/trust
in who sent him the video.
