Obama Signs $60 Billion Afghanistan War Bill, Includes $13 billion for Agent Orange Presumptives
By Nicholas Johnston and Brian Faler in Bloomberg
President Barack Obama signed a $60 billion war-funding bill that will pay for his plan announced last year to send 30,000 additional troops to Afghanistan.
The measure was approved by the Senate last week and passed the House of Representatives yesterday over the objections of some Democrats opposed to the war.
It includes $33 billion for the increase in troops in Afghanistan, along with $5 billion in disaster assistance and $13 billion to help pay for ailments presumed to be linked to use of the defoliant Agent Orange during the Vietnam War.
Afghan war costs will top those in Iraq this year for the first time since the U.S. invaded Iraq in 2003. Costs this year will total more than those in all but two years of former President George W. Bush’s administration. The measure will bring total war expenses to $1.1 trillion.
Obama is sending more troops to Afghanistan to quell a Taliban-led insurgency. He has pledged to begin bringing U.S. forces home in July 2011, depending on conditions in the country, while not specifying a date when the withdrawal would be complete.
The bill is H.R. 4899.

It might piss some people off but every American and NATO life that is lost in Afghanistan is a waste. No way in hell can this war be justified! No way can the US taxpayer continue to pay for this war. Take the money saved by pulling out the troops and pay for the disabilities of our wounded veterans — of all wars.
Of course not mentionable or legal will be the kickbacks for his election campaign (now that corporations can campaign). Th troops always get the funding on paper, but never get the supplies.
I still don’t know or have located the proper VA or gov form to apply for any Agent Orange comp. Per phone calls I have been told there is no more direct compensation for AO. I missed the boat on that one as I did bhear awhile back that a few of us (Vietnam Vets exposed to AO) actually did get a check mailed to them.
I was radiated 25 times in 2003 at the East Orange VAMC for lymp cancer in my neck yet when I ask where is the form(s) no one has any info. Does the above funding relate to a veteran exposed receiving a check now or is this funding for the friends and family research corps?
Looking for any info on this from anyone with correct knowledge. Is anyone still out there? or have we all died off?
Thanks, George A. Lovenguth from PR
