Civil Rights Triumph over Bigotry at Air Force Academy

Today, I heard the most astonishing words from an Air Force Academy Superintendent that I have ever heard in my entire 16 years as an Academy professor. Quoting from a well-known 1997 United States Air Force report, Lt Gen Mike Gould, Superintendent of the US Air Force Academy, actually said in a Commander’s Call addressed to the entire permanent population of the base that “military officers shouldn’t push their religious views on subordinates”. My jaw dropped in astonishment. This man clearly “gets it”. My elation was tempered only by the sad fact that it took multiple Superintendents and several years of painful turmoil for us to finally get a top guy in here who clearly sensed that the environment was right to say something so blatantly obvious and true to every single person here at the Air Force Academy.
I sadden only when I realize that two years from now, this Air Force Academy Superintendent will retire, we will have a different USAF Chief of Staff, and the process of training yet another chain of command must begin anew. Who knows what we will get. That means, Mikey, that you and the MRFF must be vigilant. You must be vigilant, and you must have staying power. The forces you so appropriately and aggressively oppose here at the Air Force Academy, and indeed all over the Department of Defense, think in terms of eternity, so four years between Academy Superintendents is nothing to them. Please, Mikey and MRFF, be there for an eternity too.
There is only one plausible explanation that can account for the dramatic sea change I have witnessed here at USAFA. That explanation is you, Mikey, and the efforts of the Military Religious Freedom Foundation. Without your unceasing and courageous refusal to stand by while good people do nothing, it would have been ”religiously unconstitutional” business as usual. The school I love that defends the country I love would have continued to be a happy hunting ground for fundamentalist Christian whack jobs, using their military rank or related seniority as a weapon and convinced that they were wandering in an unrestricted Elysian mission field of unchurched souls targeting as many vulnerable cadets and staff as possible for conversion.

I post Mikey’s stuff because unlike the Sarah Palin Christianite, Israel-no- matter-what crowd, the Military Relgious Freedom Foundation (MRFF) works for any man and woman’s freedom to worship (or not) in the American military.
Most of the people who go the MRFF for help are Christians, just the wrong kind–not evangelical, not anti-Semitic, not here-comes-doom types that prevail in the military.
It’s no conincidence that the ADL and the Likud Party make common cause with the Christian Zionists who were identified by the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) as extremists assaulting tolerance and pluralism in America a mere 16 years ago.

in November, 1931, the legal expert and authority on the Talmud,
Dr. Erich Bischoff, confirmed under oath the following law of the
Talmud:-

As a fellow graduate of this fine institution, I have to tell you that it is rare to see people “push” their religious beliefs on subordinates.
What is (and was) far more common is for people to squelch what little free speech rights exist in the military in the name of political correctness, of which this is a prime example.
Gen. Gould is correct, we should not push our religous beliefs “down the throats” of our subordinates, however, you should not push your “you can’t talk about your religious beliefs” PC BS down other’s as well.
The left is simple. Free speech for all, except for those with views different or challenging to ours. You, my friend, are a prime example.
So you become exactly what you purport to eliminate. One who pushes his religious views down the throats of others, in this case by force of regulation.
If there is no god, as you believe, why are you threatened by those in the military who (such as George Washington) who hold such beliefs? One cannot order another to believe anything.
So please don’t push the pendulum toward the persecution of Christians, of which “silence – you can’t say that” is a form of persecution since the command from our God is to tell others about him. To restrict our speech is to persecute us.

Practice whatever you want to believe.
The problem arises when there becomes an establishment, an entanglement of religion and government, or any trust thereof including the military.
As the U.S. Constitution states in Article VI, section 3:
“… but no religious test shall ever be required as a qualification to any office or public trust under the United States.’
Maybe a repeal or amendment is in order like what is advocated for the 14th amendment that lets all those darkies vote, marry and received all that equal protection stuff.
