Why Muslims Dare Not Burn the Bible in Return
Islam decrees that Muslims should respect and honor the Bible and Torah as well.

There is always an angle worthy of discussion in this megalomania of “Burn al Quran Day”. May be that is why so many comments have been voiced and they are all against this disgraceful and stupid plan by a discredited pastor who can’t get the support of his mother church in Germany nor the sympathy of his own daughter.
I hate to contribute to the man’s psychic lust for publicity- for that’s what he is after- and join the flocks of writers who have penned many articles on the subject.
Pastor Terry Jones` hideous plan should have been neglected and never granted this wide media exposure which turned this sick idea into a phenomenal display of extremism.
This Jones took advantage of the interconnected world of today and made a congregation of 50 people look like the whole of the American people on a facebook page. His evil call for burning al Quran demonstrates how sick people could exploit the freedom of expression in a free society like America. Being free to do this bonfire does not mean that it is the right thing to do.
What burning the Quran has to do with commemorating 9/11. How could he stoop so low? How could we surrender- in that ugly way- to bigotry in its most primitive form? Why do we find people in the 21st century so deluded and misled? Where does this shameful myopia come from? Where this Islam behind 9/11 myth is taking us?
Why don’t Muslims just react by burning the Bible in return? I’m sure this question must have crossed your mind. What prevents them from committing such a horrible deed? After all they are the extremists. They are the intolerant people. They are the violent and hateful people. But they did not and never will. Do you know why?
The answer to this question might be the only good that came out of this horrid and profane issue. The answer is so simple but yet so fundamental to a better understanding of Islam. The understanding or rather the misunderstanding that goes back to the medieval crusades.
In the eleventh century the crusades began and lasted for two hundred years in trying to rid the holy land of Jerusalem of the barbaric Muslims whom they were told desecrated the Christian sanctuaries in the holy city. Ironically it took the Arabs 70 years to figure out why they were engaged in a war with the Europeans. The Muslims were only defending their homeland against an outward aggression. That much they knew. When they were finally oriented with the true reasons behind the crusades they were more perplexed simply because they never did any harm to the Christian sites anywhere, let alone the city of Jerusalem.
It took the kings of Europe and the pope in Rome 2oo years to grow up to the fact that Jerusalem was equally sacred to Muslims.
Jesus Christ and mother Mary are considered holy and highly revered by every Muslim. This is the missing link here. Westerners should know that Islam is not some local cult like Buddhism or Hinduism which i personally respect. It is a universal faith stemming from the same origins of the Judeo-Christian faith which along with Islam are recognized as Abrahamic religions. so, burning the Quran would be like consequently throwing the Bible and Torah in the same bonfire.
This is mainly why Muslims cannot retaliate against burning al Quran by burning any copy of the Bible because Islam decrees that Muslims should respect and honor the Bible and Torah as well.
And that explains why the Muslims protesters in Afghanistan responded to this shameful incident by burning an effigy of the pastor not by burning a copy of the Bible.
It is so simple but I wish it was that simple to that freak pastor from Florida who was supposed to know better about Islam and other faiths. And this is so regrettable; I mean if priests are that ignorant about other faiths, what that says of the common people who tend to follow in their footsteps.
This bonfire will not only endanger the American troops but it will add up to the anti American sentiments in the Muslim world.
I think that the freak pastor will go ahead with his foolishness on Saturday. And starting the same Saturday, his death sentence will have been issued by many Muslim extremists around the world. This will come as no surprise for extremism only breeds more extremism. The freak pastor managed to get the world’s attention but that comes with a heavy price.

Has the author forgotten the violence following the republication of the cartoons about Mohammed? Whilst I decry what the pastor advocates on doing – I also decry people who are so politically correct, they cannot have a balanced argument!!!! There are people everywhere regardless of ethnicity, religion, gender, sexual orientation who wish to inflict pain and use all tools at their disposal to control the weak minded and ill informed. I totally agree with you. Why do we only listen to the Muslim or liberal side of thing.Christians are tortured, raped, killed, they are robbed, have their churches burned to the ground and are not given permission to rebuild, they have no rights. Go see what they endure by googeling martyrdom of Christians, or Christian persecution or any other keywords to open your minds to what else may be going on in the world. My prayers go out to these families and my heart breaks to know how hopeless they must feel. It is so sad that the Muslims (all are extremist if they follow the koran) react with violence in all situations instead of with compromise and TOLLERANCE.

For all of you spouting off about doing research I am pretty certain the Ottoman Empire(Islamic) conqured a large portion of East Europe in 1400-1500s. Some history books even some “holy” books are colored with biases to serve the purpose of those who wrote it. It us up to us to seek the truth. As far as tangible references on the cruelty of the Crusades against that of Islamic tribes, the Hagia Sophia is the best silent witness to all that. Google it there are plenty of websites listing the occurances of Muslims burning our Holy Bible. Difference is we don’t go kill because of it and we don’t threaten others. I guess that is why we don’t get the media coverage and no-one thinks it ever occurs.

I looked and looked, and I couldn’t find an example of a Muslim burning a Bible. So, I’m considering this particular argument BS until somebody provides evidence of such a thing. Although, maybe it doesn’t matter, as an equally compelling argument is that Muslims have made demonstrations of destroying Buddhist relics (Bamyan).

It is of a tiny church in North Carolina who think, and they aren’t alone, that the King James Version is the only legitimate English translation of the Bible… so they planned on burning many other translations along with a ton of other books and various media from folks they think are heretical.
After seeing that video I realized how silly the idea was… and yes it is just an attention seeking idea. Don’t worry… whatever gets burned gets replaced with yet more copies.
I know. Maybe I could download various text files of various translations of the Bible and copy them to new files with new names, over and over.. so there are many, many files. Then I could just delete them all. Would that be the same?

Here’s why:
The writer of the article is correct, the bible and the torah are taught to all muslims because it is part of their fate. In fact, if learning about jesus then every radical cleric would be sentenced to death by their own people (or get the 750 lashes punishment that you pulled out of your ass).
Wait… why are muslims learning about the bible and torah? Well, why do christians read the old testament (which in reality is the torah)? Because the koran is basically the third part to the story for muslims, they add an extra book with a continuation of the story (their Return of the Jedi vs. our Empire Strikes Back).
So don’t people get sentenced to death for being christian? Yeah, that happens but not because they are teaching about the bible, if people are suspected of trying to convert others to christianity (and thus renouncing the koran art of their religion).

Muslims DID do harm to Jerusalem, they CONQUERED it with force and killing and took the city from the Christians who had been there for 100s of years who in turn took it from Jews who had been there for thousands. Jerusalem is not ‘as holy’ to Islam as it is to Judaism or Christianity. Jerusalem was Holy to the Jews 2500+ years before Mohhamed was even born (to put that in context it is as if some new prophet came along now and claimed Mecca for his own) and had not one but two temples destroyed by the Christians. Christ, the prophet of Christianity was born and died there. Mohammed on the other hand NEVER SET FOOT in Jersusalem and Islam did not have anything to do with the city until 50+ years AFTER HIS DEATH when they went on a murderous world wide conquest taking Jersusalem on their path to taking over the Persian and ROman Empires including Anatolia (Greek), Constatinople (Greek), Iran/Iraq/Damascus, North Africa, Spain etc etc.
Mohammed (according to him) had a DREAM where he travlled (on his horse Baraq) to ‘the farthest mosque’ where he then ascended to heaven. Since there was no Mosque in Jersusalem until over 1/2 a century after his death, how can this be assumed to be Jerusalem? And even it WAS it was a DREAM. And even if it were not a dream and he did in fact corporeally travel to Jersusalem (which he did not) and tied his horse up to the 500 year old remains of the Jewish Temple (which in turn had been re built from 3000 year old temple) how can that fact give Islam the right to claim THAT land as Holy over the claims of the Jews and Christians, to build their Holy City right where Christianity’s prophet DID in fact live (and die) and build their Mosque, in all of the places in the world, right on TOP of the remains of the Jewish Temple, a Holy Place to them for 3 MILLENIA?

You forgot to mention that Jews have always lived under protection and peace in Muslim lands. They have always been treated with respect and safety when they have lived with Muslims. Even to this day in Iran. There is a thriving Jewish community in Iran. No one harasses them. Muslims never criticize Jesus Christ or Moses yet Christians and Jews always slander Muhammad (PBUH). History never reported that Muslims collectively or in an institutionalized manner desecrated the Bible.

Maybe you are right, but I used to live in indonesia from 97-2000. Every christmas some churches was attacked by muslim mob. In best case just stone throwing, in worst case bombs and burning of whole churches.

The Bible has been always been considered a holy book to Muslims, long before the crusades. Its actually the source book for the Quran. Despite the company line, the muslim book didn’t happen to emerge from the desert theologically similar to Christianity and Judaism.

Nualima say they revere the Holy Bible but in fact thehy believe it is corrupted. They believe that Abraham was called to sacrifice Ishmael not Isaac. They believe Moses is a Muslim and that Jesus was not crucified.

Do you even know the meaning of Muslim? Literal translation is “someone who submits to the will of the ONE GOD” Muslims claim that all prophets like Moses and jesus were Muslims, as they preached the ONENESS OF GOD over idolatry. The ONE GOD is called ‘the god’ in English (“the” emphasizing the oneness) and in arabic its al-ilah (or allah) (al meaning ‘THE’ and ilah meaning GOD in arabic). similarly al-musalman, meaning ‘ the one who submits to THE god” ANYONE WHO BELIEVES IN ONE GOD IS A MUSLIM!
Isn’t also islam about submitting others by any means? Dhimmis? Didn’t muslims give them 3 choices: convert, pay taxes, or die? Pretty strong arguments, especially the last one.

No, we just believe what Jesus said about himself – you know being equal with God, saw Abraham in person, and that kind of stuff. Said he fulfilled the prophesies about the Messiah. Cured lots of people, resurrected a couple of people from the dead as proof. Capped it off by rising from the dead himself, which he also stated would be a proof.
I like it that God is a community, even if I don’t comprehend how that can be. Means that things like love and personhood are fundamental, even more than elementary particles.

When I first heard about the little unknown preacher who wanted to set up a burning of the Koran event on the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, I’ll admit my first knee-jerk response was “yeah stick it to those bad guys”.
My second response was “ this guy is just a redneck who wants publicity”.
My third response was “no , this guy cares about the topic because he has written a book ‘Islam is of the Devil’ so maybe it’s more just misguided and unthoughtful chastisement”
My fourth was my reaction to the media coverage; everyone around the world is crying that the terrorist bad guys are going to react violently to this event. And that’s my only problem.
I DO NOT think he should burn the Koran. The reason is not that I’m afraid of what the radical muslim factions will do in response. I’m a former Marine-I have been over there and I know the way a lot of those guys think (at least the military folks I was with. In fact, there have even been unconfirmed reports of special ops officers contacting the preacher and saying go through with it).
Terrorists use terror to curb behavior! They want to scare others into doing what they want them to do. Islamic terrorists don’t agree with our values-they want everyone to believe like them-and NOT doing something for FEAR of their RETALIATION is a big win for them. Just a simple question from a not-so-educated Kuran reader (forgive me): What does the Kuran say when someone opposes their beliefs or retaliates, such as this little pastor of 30 members? If Islam is a religion of peace, then why is the world on high alert (I understand the extremist issue, but IS Islam a religion of peace?) Just a question. Enlighten me. For the safety of missionaries and service men and women, and out of respect, his burning seems to be a twisted version of evangelism.
FYI: No where in the Bible (and it is vitally important that one takes the Bible in it’s entire context…not cherry-picking a scripture passage) does it propose retaliation with fear or abuse. The Bible clearly states that you are to respond in respect to others. Vengeance is God’s not ours. And He is just, merciful, compassionate and not condemning…clearly something missing in the pastor’s version of the Bible.

Fred, the issue with your hypothetical situation has a couple of loopholes to drive a semi through. First: The pastor was not wanting to burn a koran to celebrate anything, it was in response to potentially building a mosque where an act of war was initiated by muslim terrorists. Second, there is a HIGH lack of respect for Christians or any other faith in all of the muslim world. Look at what happens to Muslims that change faith. Christians don’t kill their kids because they have decided they are now an atheist. Never have and never will.
Way to pick a couple choice events to make your point. It would be a good point if it had any reflection on actual reality.
1. Muslims have been attacking Christian nations for centuries. See Battle of Toulouse (721A.D.) Battle of Tours (732A.D.)where European Christians were fighting to prevent Europe from being taken over by Muslim nations. Everyone loves to talk about the “evil Christians” and their Crusades, but forgets that hundreds of years earlier muslims were trying to eradicate and occupy the existing Christian world. Muslims have a track record of violence, so stop acting like this innocent little nations were minding their own business when big bad America came along to take over.

I’ve read the Hebrew bible (well the OT, and bits of the apocrypha), but the excerpts I’ve read from the Quran are either impenetrable or strike me as banal. I guess you are supposed to read it in Arabic, but that’s a bit too much effort.
And there are key differences in the accounts, which considering the Quran came considerably AFTER, make the idea of reading all of it a rather dreary thought.
While I disagree with this pastor and question his motives and purpose for burning the Quran, I believe he’s attempting to prove that Muslims are not peaceful and are infact violent. I truly pray that Muslims around the world prove him to be wrong! This man is a sick individual who does not reprensent Christianity well at all. Having said that, there is a clear media bias, there is no outrage at all over different groups burning the Bible. This is considered free speech. Also, when the Bible has been burned, you never hear of threats of mass violence by Christians.

He is saying a bunch of untrue things. Muslims did destroy countless Christian churches including the most sacred Church od Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem. They did destroy the tomb of Christ. Muslims do ban bible in countries where they have absolute majority. Muslims did desecrate Bible many times and I don’t think that Christians reciprocated yet. Mr. Azzad is trying to emphasize a well-known fact that Christians and Jews are mentioned in the Koran and this is why they had a choice to pay taxes instead of being executed for not converting to Islam. Obviously, it was only the matter of time given the islamic laws prohibiting Christian men from marrying Muslim women but not prohibiting Muslim men from marrying Christian women who automatically were giving birth to Muslim children.
I don’t want to mention violent destruction of Christians in so many countries with Muslim majorities from Armenian genocide in Turkey (I have an Armenian heritage), to genocide of Christians in Southern Sudan (2 million people), milions of Christian refugees from Muslim Northern Nigeria to the South. I can go on and on. There can be no peace unless we start telling the Truth.

Since when have Buddhism and Hinduism been designated as a cult? There are some pretty specific guidelines that qualify a “religion” as a cult… and neither of these come close. I want to make three points:
Point 1: The area around Jerusalem before the Crusades was filled with many religions, especially Armenian Christians, and their livlihood, lives, and religions were threatened by the expanding and repressive Moslem tribes. They asked for help and thus the first crusades.
Point 2: You can’t burn a bible in a Moslem country because none are available to burn – they are forbidden.
Point 3: Someone somewhere burns a bible and some of us Westerners may be offended.
Burn a Quran and Moslems go crazy and someone gets killed. That should starkly differentiate the cultures. They are in the medieval era. We are in the modern era.

pre crusaders time was the best time for the locals of spain, their economy was thriving. Many preferred to live under muslim rule as they were given the rights to practice thier religion and to develop not only spiritally but also scientifically. But europe concerned about muslim expansion northwards sent in the crusaders.

THank you, George! Muslims are always trying to say that they don’t persecute Christians, but there are accounts of Christian persecutions, atheist persecutions and other “infidels”. Bibles are confiscated and burnt in Saudi Arabia and it is punishable by death or jailtime, to practice the Christian faith or even dismiss or question Islam. Those Muslim apologists who say otherwise are LYING! There are many reports of former Muslims who were killed or persecuted for leaving Islam. The Koran itself says one cannot leave Islam (despite one verse that says “there is no compulsion in religion”.. ) there are dozens of other verses that say that Muslims are expected to kill unbelievers where they find them!

Narrated ‘Ikrima: ‘Ali burnt some people and this news reached ibn ‘Abbas, who said, “Had I been in his place I would not have burnt them, as the Prophet said, ‘Don’t punish (anybody) with Allah’s Punishment.’ No doubt, I would have killed them, for the Prophet said, ‘If somebody (a muslim) discards his religion, kill him.’” — Volume 4, Book 52, Chapter 149, Number 260. p. 160-161.
(2) CHAPTER. The legal regulation concerning the male and the female who reverts from Islam (apostates). Ibn ‘Umar, Az-Zuhri and Ibrahim said, “A female apostate (who reverts from Islam), should be killed. And the obliging of the reverters from Islam (apostates) to repent. Allah said: — ‘How shall Allah guide a people who disbelieved after their belief and (after) they bore witness that the Apostle (Muhammad) was true, and that Clear Signs had come unto them? And Allah does not guide the wrong-doing people. As for such the reward is that on them (rests) the curse of Allah, the Angels, and of all mankind. They will abide there-in (Hell). Neither will their torment be lightened nor it will be postponed (for a while). Except for those that repent after that and make amends. Verily Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful. Surely those who disbelieved after their belief, and go on adding to their defiance of faith, never will their repentance be accepted, and they are those who have gone astray.’ (Sura 3:86-90) — Volume 9, Book 84, Chapter 2, p. 42-43.
57. Narrated ‘Ikrima: Some Zanadiqa (atheists) were brought to ‘Ali and he burnt them. The news of this event, reached Ibn ‘Abbas who said, “If I had been in his place, I would not have burnt them, as Allah’s Apostle forbade it, saying, ‘Do not punish anybody with Allah’s punishment (fire).’ I would have killed them according to the statement of Allah’s Apostle, ‘Whoever changed his Islamic religion, then kill him.’” — Volume 9, Book 84, Chapter 2, Number 57, page 45

Narrated Abu Burda: Abu Musa said, “I came to the Prophet along with two men (from the tribe) of Ash’ariyin, one on my right and the other on my left, while Allah’s Apostle was brushing his teeth (with a Siwak), and both men asked him for some employment. The Prophet said, ‘O Abu Musa (O ‘Abdullah bin Qais!).’ I said, ‘By Him Who sent you with the Truth, these two men did not tell me what was in their hearts and I did not feel (realize) that they were seeking employment.’ As if I were looking now at his Siwak being drawn to a corner under his lips, and he said, ‘We never (or, we do not) appoint for our affairs anyone who seeks to be employed. But O Abu Musa! (or ‘Abdullah bin Qais!) Go to Yemen.’” The Prophet then sent Mu’adh bin Jabal after him and when Mu’adh reached him, he spread out a cushion for him and requested him to get down (and sit on the cushion). Behold: There was a fettered man beside Abu Muisa. Mu’adh asked, “Who is this (man)?” Abu Muisa said, “He was a Jew and became a Muslim and then reverted back to Judaism.” Then Abu Muisa requested Mu’adh to sit down but Mu’adh said, “I will not sit down till he has been killed. This is the judgment of Allah and His Apostle (for such cases) and repeated it thrice. Then Abu Musa ordered that the man be killed, and he was killed. Are Muslims taught he Bible is “unclean?” It was reported in a UK paper last year that a Muslim nurse or hospital worker of some sort refused to bring a copy of a Bible to a patient at the patient’s request since she felt that book was “unclean” for her as a Muslim to handle.
