Wisconsin GOP Senate Candidate Ron Johnson Opposed Child Sexual Abuse Victims Act

Wisconsin U.S. Senate Candidate, Ron Johnson - Opposed Wisconsin Child Victims Bill codifying legal protection against Predator Priests

- It’s shameful and disgusting that Ron Johnson would go to the Wisconsin State Senate to defend Predator Priests under the rationale that the Child Sexual Abuse Victims Act is bad for business. “I think its a valid question to ask if the employer of the perpetrator should also be severely damaged, possibly destroyed, in a legitimate desire for justice,” said Johnson. Watch the video below.  -

Via Protect, the National Association to Protect Children

As a single issue group that spans the entire political spectrum, PROTECT asks just one thing about candidates for public office: where do they stand on protecting children?

In the case of Ron Johnson, a Republican teaparty activist running for the U.S. Senate in Wisconsin, there’s not much of a public track record. Johnson, owner of a specialty plastic manufacturing business, has never held political office. His website says his “quiet, but extensive work within his community had had a deep impact,” but doesn’t go into much more detail. …

The one thing we do know about where Ron Johnson stands on child protection comes from his prominent opposition to the Wisconsin Child Victims Act, a bipartisan bill that would have extended the civil statute of limitations for child sexual abuse.

In 2009, Johnson, a private citizen, traveled from Oshkosh to the capitol in Madison to deliver testimony (see page 27) opposing the bill. There’s not much of serious substance in his testimony, other than his argument that lawsuits by abuse victims would hurt “non-profit organizations.” Johnson then listed eight nonprofits he was involved with, including some affiliated with the Catholic church, who fought the legislation strongly (Johnson is a Lutheran).

Now, a new video has come to light.

New Video Shows Ron Johnson Saying Church Officials that Protect / Reassign Predator Priests Shouldn’t Be Held Accountable

By Jud Lounsbury at UppityWisconsin

Earlier this year, Ron Johnson, testified before the Wisconsin State Senate on behalf of the Green Bay Diocese Finance Council, which has ultimate decision power in deciding whether to settle abuse law suits and can even overrule a diocese’s bishop decision in how to proceed.

Johnson was there to oppose the so-call Child Victims Bill, which would have made it easier to go after child predators.  Under current law, many children do not come forward until after the statute of limitations has expired– this law would have made exceptions in such circumstances.

From the Green Bay Diocese Finance Council perspective, this meant that many more child victims of predator priests would come forward and that they would be forced to deal with more law suits.  And more law suits mean spending more money, which Johnson and the Finance Council obviously opposed.

Usually, though, such institutions will try to kill such legislation quietly behind the scenes. Rarely do we see someone like Johnson defend such an unseemly position.

Unbelievably, during his testimony, Johnson asks an a jaw-droppingly stupid question:

I think its a valid question to ask if the employer of the perpetrator should also be severely damaged, possibly destroyed, in a legitimate desire for justice?”

Well… actually that’s not a valid question!   It’s an incredibly stupid question!  If the Green Bay Diocese knew that a pedophile priest was in their organization and instead of calling the police, reassigned him to another parish, of course they should be sued!

Unfortunately, this isn’t hypothetical wondering for the Green Bay Diocese.  Their entire leadership has a long, troubling record of reassigning instead of arresting pedophile priests.

It’s shameful that Ron Johnson would serve under such an unhonorable group and absolutely disgusting that he would go to the Wisconsin State Senate to defend them and do their bidding.

  1. The snake is shedding his skin for an election. Beware!

  2. Read the stupid legislation dum dums.

  3. Any sicko scumbag convicted of molesting a child should immediately forfeit his testicles. Instead Ron Johnson is concerned about the money, it’s all about the money. If he can limit the statutes, that will save money for the Catholic Church.
Come on people, we’re driving backwards here. How is making it more difficult for children to come forward helpful?

  4. Getting rid of DADT is about equal rights, serving our country.

Yet, you equate being gay with being an open sex offender.

Crazy, but that aside, I do have a question:

Do you defend Ron Johnson’s position limiting child sex crime victims from seeking legal recourse for their pain and trauma.

    Simple question.

  5. YOU SO CALLED CONSERATIVE JACK ASSES CAM STOP SEDING ME YOUR BULL SHIT HELL WILL FREEZEV OVER BEFORE YOU EVER GET MY VOTER IT IS TOU PEOPLEB THAST PUT THIS COUNTRTY INTO THE CRAPPER GO SUXK ON SOME MORE OF YOPUR RICH COTPERATE CRONIES COCK YA FREAKING NIM RODS
