It has been brought to the notice of the international community that Nobel Laureate Mairead McGuire second to none in her support to eliminate conflicts and the reasons for conflicts between nations and peoples, has been illegally arrested and detained by the Government of Israel when she arrived for the ‘PEACE CONFERENCE OF NOBEL LAUREATES’ to prevent her from attending a Peace Conference of Nobel Laureates from all over the world being held in Israel .
In arresting and detaining Mairead McGuire and preventing her from attending a peace conference, the government of Israel is seen all over the world as its own worst enemy, as nothing is eroding the State of Israel as much as its own acts such as Operation Cast Lead, collective killings on the MAVI MARMARA the creeping colonization of settlements in the region, and now the unjustified detention of Mairead McGuire, a sane voice for Peace with compassion for people the world over.
Is it surprising that democratic sections of Jewish public opinion the world over with memories of their own persecution similar in nature to what has been inflicted on the Palestinians and victims of the holocaust themselves are now constrained to dissociate themselves from these policies?
To reiterate the government of Israel seems to be its own worst enemy and no public relations exercise has damaged the State of Israel more than its own acts .
You are aware that Mairead McGuire a very senior and eminent citizen of Ireland , is a voice of sanity in a deranged world , with malice towards none, what does the government of Israel wish to prove by this detention? I put this question to Jewish opinion and international opinion the world over, including in the State of Israel.

If you believe peace is war and slavery is freedom why wouldn’t you detain and arrest a person such as the one in this article? A psychopath has a conscience, a sociopath does not. Standing arrested is shining more light into this black hole so that the world will act and not just react. Your argument is false. The leadership of Israel is not deliberately persecuting or massacring any civilian in Gaza, as you claim. The Jews have learned from the atrocities that were committed to them by the Catholics in Spain, Muslims in Iran, Iraq, Teyman, Morocco, Syria, Lebanon, and most of all: the Nazis in Germany.
Israel has put its own soldiers in danger in order to minimise the civilian casualties on both sides, in addition to cancelling many military operations.

Simple answer: because UN is dominated by Israeli enemies.
UN is not a holly place, but an area of usual politic games, but on a high level. Everybody is struggling for their interests. Israel is a small country, which happened to be strong enough (and stubborn enough) to defend itself from its neighbors. And the neighbors happen to have a lot of supporters. So they vote in the UN. And by their sheer numbers, they are often much more important for other countries (economically and politically), which puts pressure on neutral countries to be against Israel.
I think the fact that in spite of that Israel still has certain support in the UN is a very reassuring fact: not everything is just politics or short-term interests, some countries (notably, US) think about future and their long-term interests. Which include freedom, human dignity – this is what they want to see in the world, and that’s why they still sometimes support Israel in spite of the pressure.
Sorry to state that, but I think it’s evident for everyone, even peace activists, that human dignity is supported by Israel, but to muuuuuuch less extent by its enemies. Arab citizens in Israel (although a minority with understandable tendency to support enemies of the state and thus potentially and actually dangerous) enjoy full rights. They are in the academics, high-tech industry, many of them are very rich. E.g., if you compare recent Russian or Ethiopian (Jewish) immigrants, they much less well off than Arab citizens of Israel. As far as I know, even the US did not give as much rights to Germans and Japanese during the WWII.
So my opinion is that US deserves much respect for supporting this human dignity and freedom vision in spite of political pressure. The rest of countries in the UN – well, many of them, I think, have a lot of thinks to fix in their own countries, and it’s a pity that others succumb to the pressure.

By the way: Unlike Gilad Shalit who has been detained for years with NO RED-CROSS ACCESS (not to mention his mom and dad), and with no due process, Miss McGuire, and any other terrorist leaning individual, gets due process in Israel (and family access). I am sad to say that someone that got the Nobel Peace Prize decided to take part in a military action against Israel (the attempted breaking of a legal navel blockade against a rocket launching aggressor). When her metal-bars-swinging over-board-throwing comrades proved no match to a small group of elite Israeli soldiers she herself signed a statement that she will not return to Israel. She is not a welcomed guest and Israel certainly is not required to allow entry to her. Some of you seem to forget Israel is a sovereign country. Miss McGuire decided to stay under Israeli detention and pursue whatever legal options she has under the Israeli-democratic-system-of-government. So far the courts have been unfavorable to her and as a personal opinion I hope they continue to be. This so-called “peace activist” not only participated in a staged hostile act against the state of Israel, she also used violence against officers of the peace while resisting her legal deportation. Israel tried to put her on a plane back to Britain and when the Legalities (she is pursuing) are complete I suspect will do it. If y’all would like her in the states [or India -- where the author of this piece is from (what does this have to do with American veterans???)] you are welcome to her. In the meantime she could try and learn the fate of the Kurds in Turkey and of the daily attacks by the Turkish military on Kurdish Men Women and Children. She can also work to bring “peace” to the many places on Earth where there is genuine suffering by the innocent. Peace will come to the Israeli Palestinian conflict when the Palestinian forgo the use of violence. This day can come sooner if reasonable people clearly call for an END TO VIOLENCE. After that peace will follow.

Have you been in Israel prisons which hold Palestinian freedom fighters? Do you know what they complain about? The demand the right to have free cell-phone access (allowing them, by the way, to continue their anti-Israeli work), private meetings with their wives to have children. They do not complain there is nothing to eat, no connection to the world. In fact, being a student, I lived in dorms which look much worse than what they live in in prison.
So please do not compare. I understand Palestinian Army wants to have an Israeli soldier captive – this is rules of war. But if you speak of equal rights, than he should be in the same conditions. I mean, I have no problem understanding that Hamas does not want to allow humanitarian rights to Israeli prisoner. They can do it. But stop talking about the same regarding Israel. I think there should be a match: whatever Gilad Shalit experiences, Palestinian prisoners should experience. This is fair.

With all due respect to Ms. McGuire and her past accomplishments for which she earned her prize, the reason she was detained is her violation of Israeli laws. She was previously deported from Israel (with 10 years entry ban) for being passenger of the “Rachel Corrie” ship while entering Israel waters illegally.
You may argue whether you support the laws, whether you think they are justified. If you think the laws are wrong, you may go on and break them – this is what Ms. McGuire did. But you need to understand that you put yourself on the same level as criminals, with the same consequence. By expressing her opinions the way she did – breaking sovereign country’s laws – she put herself at war with this country.
Overall, extremely biased article. I think, it tries to influence uninformed reader by hiding information. I respect author’s opinion, but think the way it is delivered is manipulative and unfair.

But after reading your profile I understand why you bring up articles like this. You write that your whole point is being one-sided, in order to shift the balance you believe is wrong.
I was brought up in a different belief: try to fix things by making justice to all sides. And I was taught that manipulation is a bad thing. You say that one-sidedness, which is manipulation, is good. Ok. Understood.

Did Ms. McGuire participate in peaceful demonstrations against violent actions of Hamas, Fatah or other similar organization? It seems to me like a logical act in the efforts to make peace in the Middle East – did she do anything like this?

Oh, I agree, that peace between Israel and neighbors may be reached by destroying Israel and killing/dispersing its citizens (not just Jews). I do not think it will bring peace to that land though. You can imaging what happens by looking how Palestinian fractions fight with each other.
I think it is a fundamental problem: when somebody constantly says “others are responsible for my actions, I have no choice” – this is a way to abyss. Once you promote this feeling in the Arabs of Palestine – you harm them. They will never get out of it this way. When they decide to take future in their own hands – regardless of Israel, start building their life (instead of weapons), this will be beginning of the road to peace. What you promote, is a road to endless war and suffering for the Palestinian people you say you pity so much. If you want good life for them, of course. I am not convinced.

I visited the site, and it says nothing new.
In short, countries at war bear casualties. Israel and its Palestine-Authority neighbors are at definite and almost constant war (see rockets being fired – they do not get as wide coverage as IDF operations, but happen all the time, and continue this war).
The author seems to relate the fact that Israel can defend itself better to atrocities? Seriously?! If a gang comes to my house and wants to kill my family, but I a good sniper and succeed to kill all 10 of them while they kill only one of my children, have I committed atrocity? Well, it’s 10:1 – so I am surely a war machine going over defendless poor guys.
The number of killed Arab children is a shame to their parents – there is always a plenty of opportunities to get them out of the war zone. But reports say that Hamas prevents them from doing so, so maybe it’s not their shame, it’s their problem. And it’s a shame for peace activists, which do not try to protests this and try to take children out of the war zone.
Houses destroyed – again, I am personally glad that Israeli army is stronger than Palestine Authority army and they do not succeed to destroy houses. They do however – from rocket fire, so it’s not correct. And the time the author starts his counting is completely biased: there were complete Israeli towns and kibbutzim destroyed by Arabs, before and while the state of Israel was forming and could defend itself better. So it’s not that they do not want to harm Israel, their abilities are limited. Which is good, to my mind.

No, IDF does not do this unless there is heavy fire from this same school (which happens regretfully too often). And IDF often does attack such targets even at the expense of lives of the soldiers, just to save lives of those children. If there would be such slaughter, it would not be justified; but it never happened the way you describe it.

Ms. Maguire Remains in Detention for Six Days and in Failing Health
Supreme Court Hearing in Jerusalem Tomorrow Monday 4 October 2010 at 9:00

(Haifa, Israel) This morning, Sunday 3 October 2010, Adalah filed an appeal
to the Israeli Supreme Court on behalf of Nobel Peace Laureate Mairead
Maguire against the decision of the Central District Court in Petah Tikvah
on 1 October 2010 rejecting her petition and ordering her deportation from
Israel.
The Supreme Court will hear the appeal tomorrow Monday 4 October 2010 at
9AM before Chief Justice Beinisch and Justices Gronis and Hendel. Following
Adalah’s request, the Supreme Court also issued an injunction against Ms.
Maguire’s deportation until the end of the proceedings.
In the appeal, Adalah argued that there is no valid deportation order from
the Interior Ministry against Ms. Maguire; that the Central District Court
did have the authority to cancel any deportation order of the Interior
Ministry, if indeed such an order exists; and that due process requires
that Ms. Maguire be permitted to challenge any order before Israeli courts.
The District Court based its decision on procedural grounds, disregarding
the violation of Ms. Maguire’s basic rights. Adalah’s General Director
Attorney Hassan Jabareen and Adalah Attorneys Orna Kohn and Fatmeh El-’Ajou
submitted the appeal.
Ms. Maguire fell ill on Friday evening 1 October following her court
hearing and was taken to a local hospital for tests. Ms. Maguire rested in
the hospital for three hours before returning to her holding cell at
Ben-Gurion International Airport. Detention officers allowed Ms. Maguire
only partial access to her medical records and refused a phone call to her
husband in Ireland. Ms. Maguire has now been in detention for six days.
At the hearing tomorrow, Adalah will also renew demands that Ms. Maguire be
allowed to enter Israel and join the Nobel Women’s Initiative for the final
day of their week-long visit with women peace-builders in Israel and the

We need to learn about psychopaths in a usable way to serve our survival.
They have to be characterized and then not allowed to participate in society in any important way where policies are created. They have been described as infra-species predators. I thought for a while that maybe the human race was splitting into two species budding a new species. Ones that could not empathize. Ones that saw it’s parent as the other or as an object, to be collected and used. With the acceleration of work on the human brain and others I am sure that some insights will prevail to allow a better understanding of this condition, which for the most parts seems to be endemic to some individuals from birth. No matter what “side” your on, you will be at times in their company. Your loss is their gain. They thrive on you loosing, not matter who it is, no matter whose side. They are motivated by the discord and want always more, as long as they personally are not on the receiving end. A recent study has shown that genetically the condition is passed from mother to son, where the sons expresses it in most examples covertly. It is possible that this is a genetic mechanism for increasing a females genome by reducing advantages of others, giving her offspring greater returns on resources? A first thought when I came across this. Anyhow the condition exists and is perpetrated as a possibility with every child that is born. So far as anyone knows.
The effects we have seen from this difference flowering in the human condition has been increasingly catastrophic and history is mostly a record of it all religions speak of it. Go back to the roots of your opinions and see who demands the most attention in your references. Look for empathy and the lack thereof. They recognize each other but we have difficulty recognizing them.

Every now and then some TV talker says something like “But…You don’t question Israel’s right to exist..do you?” As if it’s actually Unthinkable!, as if no one would dare question Israel on TV.. Well, if you have a brain, and can think, you Will question Israel’s right to confiscate the Palestinian’s land. We all have a right to exist, but a 2000 yr old land claim? From God? The purpose of Israel is to ensure a perpetual state of war in the region.
This action is just another in the continuing saga of arrogance displayed by the Israelis, without exception the most disliked country in the world.
The fact that any Nobel Laureate can see such a function being held in Israel as anything but an exercise in brainwashing, surprises me. Perhaps if such a function is organised again, the present attendees may see these sort of charades for what they really are, Israeli media hypes, organised for their benefit only.
Rexaust is absolutely correct. It would almost be safe to say that the structures in place in Israel to organize these propaganda exercises so that they can gain some form of benefit for their own state, must be the largest industry in that hated country.
Sadly, the structures for Israeli self-promotion are on the ground in every country as they try by devious means to try to gain some form of acceptance by other countries to overcome their disgraceful deeds over 60 years.
