Republican Senate hopeful Ron Johnson: Dismisses VA committment to homeless veterans as “details” – VIDEO
- Asked what the Department of Veteran’s Affairs’ responsibility is to homeless veterans, Johnson declared that his election fight against Sen. Russ Feingold (D-WI) is not “about details.” -
Evidently, homeless veterans do not figure prominantly into the millionaire rightwinger’s conception of a U.S. Senate campaign.
Betrayal of veterans is typically a bi-partisan game, but Johnson takes his slap in the face to America’s veterans to a new low.

Wisconsin’s Republican Senate hopeful Ron Johnson got tripped upon a point of policy during a recent interview: Asked what the Department of Veteran’s Affairs’ responsibility is to homeless veterans, Johnson declared that his election fight against Sen. Russ Feingold is not “about details.”
“Certainly the people that step up to the plate to answer that call — they are a top priority in terms of spending. So we do need a strong VA system. We need to support those folks as long as they need support,” Johnson said.
The moderator pressed Johnson — a government skeptic — to explain exactly how the government should respond to the issue of homeless vets. “Are there specific things that you think need to happen within that galaxy of services, perhaps, that the VA has some responsibility for or other organizations that would help homeless veterans?”
Johnson responded, flummoxed.
“Specifically I can’t really — I haven’t been there, I don’t have all the details. One thing I will point out: I don’t believe this election really is about details. It just isn’t. I mean as I’ve gone through the state of Wisconsin I’ve viewed this pretty much as a job interview…. I’ll have to get there. I’ll have to start performing the job.”
Johnson recently failed to win the endorsement of the Green Bay Press Gazette for coming up short when asked to explain his plan for helping the middle class.
The entire interview is available here (WMV) with the key moment coming about 23 minutes in.

Feingold is a true statesman. Check his voting record, he’s WAY better at handling the internal affairs of the US Senate and aiding the middle class, military families and vets than the schlump the elephant crew selected.
As a Wisconsin VN & Desert Storm vet, unless you’ve been hiding under a rock, this particular senate seat campaign is a no-brainer.
Ron Johnson knows that the vast majority of the electorate is unable and/or unwilling to serve in the US Military, especially the combat arms. As a result, he and other American politicians are not concerned with the welfare of veterans, especially “homeless veterans”.Both the relative and absolute number of American men willing and able to serve in the American military, especially the combat arms, has declined significantly since the War in Vietnam. One indication of the same is that the mercenaries now compose approximately 50% of our military forces in the illegal, criminal, and aggressive Wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. The fact that the great majority of the American electorate is composed of those who are unwilling and/or unable to serve in the US Military encourages the American political system to denigrate, discriminate against, and oppress veterans and those who would potentially become veterans while granting unjust political, social, economic, and cultural power to this militarily unwilling and unable electoral majority. As I remember it, one of the reasons that Ancient Rome fell was because of the aforementioned.
Senator Feingold why aren’t you fighting to include Eood, Fuel and Gasoline in the Cost of living for the COLA for Social Security, Disabled Americans and DIABLES VETERANS? You said you would fight for us. Well why haven’t you? Bob Obst air1cmdr@hotmail.com
