Agent Orange – The Unwanted Gift That Keeps on Giving!!!

Agent Orange: The killing and maiming goes on

- As most of you know, many of us, and our families, are suffering (those still alive) with rare and deadly diseases due to our exposure of Agent Orange (AO) during the Vietnam war era and later. -

By Paul E. Travis

There are documents proving that the US manufactures’, including our Government, knew of the dangers of AO to humans, but chose to make AO for the almighty dollar.  In the 1980′s, a class-action law suit against Dow Chemical, Monsanto and a couple of other companies happened.  The law-suit was won and these companies very quietly paid Veterans who had diseases back then due to AO.   Most Vets never found out about it.

Another class-action was started in the late 2000′s, which was stopped by the US Supreme Court due to politics.  Our Government, including VA, continue to try and avoid paying for our deadly diseases of AO exposure.  Monsanto, Dow and others escaped again for their greed and deadly chemicals.

Due to the nature of AO, many of the cancers and other diseases are very-slow to show up.  New diseases and higher rates of common diseases like heart disease and Thyroid diseases (Graves Disease) keep showing up to those of us exposed.

I had never heard of Soft Tissue Sarcoma until a 26lb liposarcoma mass the size of 2 footballs were found in me and surgically removed in 1999.  I was exposed to AO in 1972/1973 at Johnston Island and it took this long for my liposarcoma to be found.   VA states it took too long to show up and the AO exposure didn’t happen in Vietnam.  My Peripheral Neuropathy showed up in 1996 (first diagnosed as MS), Graves disease showed up in 2005, my calcified arteries in 2002, my burst appendix in 2006, stents in 2008 and my liposarcoma keeps coming back resulting in more surgeries in 2002, 2007 and 2009 (Stage IV).  I no longer have a left kidney, spleen, some back muscles or most of my adrenal bed.  Again my Government and VA says not related to AO, but the VA hospital in OKC stated that I was exposed.  VA benefits section says not exposed.

We really need to recognize that Monsanto and Dow really managed the cover-up of AO dangers quite well.  Europe’s version of AO found TCDD dioxin dangers were greatly reduced just by cooking longer.  Monsanto and others knew this but chose not to cook longer in order to meet the contracts with the US Government.

Monsanto makes RoundUp to kill weeds.  Some studies are now looking at some health related issues in Europe (another version of AO?).  They are also messing with our food seeds (bioengineered seed).  This is really scary, because their history demonstrates they don’t care of what damage they will do to us or our environment (look at all of our Superfund cleanup sites and world-wide illnesses because of their chemicals).

The “company of the year”  value is not doing so good.  And Forbes Magazine senior editor’s c0verage of Monsanto is a source of ridicule.

It would be a beginning if Monsanto would just start out by admitting their wrongs and be responsible for their actions.  They need to try and stop diseases, not continue to spread it.

  2. Palazzo – you’ve done it again!
Personalizing the extent of what dioxin exposure can do to the human body is one thing, your revelation about Monsanto ignoring the EU processing procedures of cooking the toxic cocktail, is another classic example of how callous this megalithic chemical corporation has been for decades.

  3. is the 60% going to a added to the already 30 % I havefor ishari heart deceases.

what i don’t understand is why the government doesn’t commit to more research and faster results of those researches.its clear that all of us vietnam veterans were exposed and contaminated by this chemical.as far as the v.a. they are not worth a damn.they have plenty of rules and regulations why our agent orange is not the cause of our many ailments.i suffer as many others with type 2 diabetes, peripheral artery disease, peripheral neuropathy. and othe issues. also an enlarged heart.
but as always the v.a is taught to deny the vietnam veterans rather than grant them for their suffering. than they sit there and say they want to be our advocaries and help us to trust them. that would be like trusting a person with scitzafrania.than again it may be safer than trusting the v.a.
i just say they are waiting for us all to pass away and then they are out from the scrutiny.

  5. ” For decades now, concerned Veterans and Civilians have been questioning the testing of Agent Orange at Fort Chaffee, Arkansas, in 1966 and 1967, as well as the residual effects of this deadly chemical.

Until August 2008, the military denied its use of Agent Orange at Fort Chaffee, Arkansas. On August 22, 2008, Congressman Boozman provided Congressional Inquiry results which finally admitted to the use of Agent Orange at seven testing sites at Fort Chaffee, Arkansas; but due to the loss of an alleged old hand drawn map, one of the sites was deleted and could not be confirmed.

However, the April 2009 official U.S. Government Tactical Grade Herbicide Site Investigation Defoliant Spray Area 1 Draft Report (reports can be provided upon request) not only proves the testing of Agent Orange, but provides detailed site location, coordinates, and proves dioxin levels still exist TODAY. Dioxin was the most dangerous chemical created by our government and used on its own people, as well as in Vietnam, Gage Town Canada, and other countries. Gage Town, Canada has sued the United States twice now and won the first law suit. The second law suit is pending currently as it is initiated by the sick children of those exposed to the Agent Orange testing back in 1966 and 1967. Every country where Agent Orange has been tested has sued us and won, with the exception of Vietnam, who has a third lawsuit pending currently.

Many who have served or spent time at Fort Chaffee, Arkansas have developed diabetes, cancer, colon cancer, lung cancer, heart disease, and/or died.

Did you also know that the City of Charleston, Arkansas, has 100 times the national average for Type II Diabetes and cancer?! Did you know that the City of Charleston drew its water from Engineer’s Lake, Fort Chaffee, which was near one of the test sites? Did you know the former mayor of Central City, Arkansas is one of those exposed to Agent Orange? Hear his story here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pZZeclt3sZo

Another secret the government tried to keep away from its duty-bound and life-giving citizens!!!!!

If you have worked at Fort Chaffee, Arkansas, served there, fished there, or spent time there, and have any of the above mentioned illnesses, or you know someone who may have been exposed to Agent Orange at Fort Chaffee, Arkansas, please contact me immediately jkaelin@k5dxm.com!! “

  6. What I find absolutely unconcienable is the fact that the Pentagon and VA have denied Blue Water Navy Veterans status for presumptive exposure to dioxin. I know for a fact that Navy Helo Carrier Crews frequently had “Boots n Ground” while on Official Business and/or liberty in Vietnam. I know of several who are now suffering the same life threatening ailments as Army, Marines and Air Force Vets who were in areas heavily sprayed with dioxin. I know of other Blue Water Navy personnel who have long since lost that battle. For all of those obstructionists, politicians, and greedy corporate tycoons who have benefited from their sacrifice, I pity you in the final judgement. When/while you have an opportunity to correct this grevious error, and don’t take action to do so, their blood, and the hardships and suffering of their loved ones is on your hands. Please, while some are still clinging to hope, do the right thing and help them get the compensation they are due. It IS the right thing to do after all.

  7. Did you ever train at CFB Gagetown in New Brunswick Canada?

    Kentar@telus.net

  8. Retiring President Dwight D. Iesenhower stated, Beware the Military Industrial complex!.
For years I had no idea what he was trying to tell us. I guess I know now. Big dollars.

  9. Kauai, Hawaii was poisoned also. All information is buried. My story is on my facebook page. Still writing it. Poisoned barrels still being excavated in 2002 right next to a reservoir. There are maps of the sprayed areas, where we lived, etc. I was 14-16, brain damage and too many life threatening health events to mention. It took about 6 weeks to figure out where exactly the spraying happened. I used all the reports I could find and a PhD dissertation that included research in 1960 in the area above our house. I am exhausted. I know there are people who are still alive and have no idea what is wrong with them and their children. Please check it out.

Chemicals dumped on plots as small as 2 acres: (RIGHT ACROSS THE HEADWATERS OF A MAJOR RIVER THAT RAN BY OUR HOUSE)
    AGENT ORANGE
    SUPER ORANGE
    AGENT BLUE (ARSENIC)
AGENT WHITE (PLOTS BURNED PER UNIVERSITY OF HAWAII ADVISE)
    PARAQUAT
    DIQUAT
    ENDOTHALL
    PCP
    PICLORAM
    HCA
    2,4,5-t

Also, AGent Pink and Purple which are not included in any of the reports to politicians demanding information regarding chemicals used outside Vietnam. Both are much more toxic than Agent Orange. This was mentioned in a report written by 4 agronomists from UH in 1968. Only control: Two local boys on dozers pointing to where the loads should be dropped. Soaked with every load. They both died in early 80s of multiple cancers. Both denied compensation because “they had UH workmen’s compensation insurance.” Two Fort Detrick personnel went home and died too.

I am going to have a website when I figure out how to do it. Until then, the information with maps of Kauai, where the spraying took place and where we lived are on my facebook page: Sheridan Collins, facebook.

Please check it out. Where are all the sick people?????

  10. CP => – As most of you know, many of us, and our families, are suffering (those still alive) with rare and deadly diseases due to our exposure of Agent Orange (AO) during the Vietnam war era and later. -

TG => AO was developed in the 1940s, tested in many places WITHIN the U.S., used in Korea, both during the War and all over the Korean DMZ. I know most of you guys don’t give a crap about those who came before you, but some of us do.

TG => I have a close friend, one of the few surviving of his family, who lived in the State of Washington when AO and its derivatives were tested in the local canal system. All the families — most of them long gone — used that canal water to irrigate their gardens and grow poisoned fruits, vegetables and animal feed. My friend, also a veteran, says “thank god I was skinny”.
    ——–
Article => Due to the nature of AO, many of the cancers and other diseases are very-slow to show up. New diseases and higher rates of common diseases like heart disease and Thyroid diseases (Graves Disease) keep showing up to those of us exposed.

TG => The problem is, AO and others of its ilk are stored in the body’s fatty tissues, including the brain. As we get older, we tend to put on a little more body fat which covers and locks the AO in place (note Paul’s liposarcomas — it means fat tumors). Then, up to many years later, we decide to go on a diet, or lose weight from aging and the stored AO+ is released back into our system, looking for new places to take root.
    ——-
Article => but the VA hospital in OKC stated that I was exposed. VA benefits section says not exposed.

T.G. => The VA Medical Branch and the VA Benefits Computers DO NOT communicate. I don’t know if it’s a moneysaving plan to be that way, or it or if it is one of the many accidents of idiots in WDC including its network of bureacracies.
