Has the GOP Become a Threat to America?

Has the GOP Become a Threat to America?

The current leadership of the GOP is the most dangerous threat to America in the history of this country. Hyperbole? I wish it were. But the evidence clearly demonstrates that the GOP has mounted a concerted effort to circumvent the American people and install a modern-day feudalism that effectively abolishes the will of the people and their elected officials to allow our cities and states to be run by corporate-like CEOs – and there’s no telling where it will go from there.

In spite of the GOP claim that they believe in limited government, The Michigan Messenger has reported that newly elected Republican governor, Rick Snyder, is poised to sign an emergency management bill that will hand total control of local governments over to “emergency managers” appointed by the government.

The Messenger reports:

“In a party line vote, and despite impassioned speeches of protest by the body’s Democratic minority, the Michigan Senate approved legislation that threatens to take over and even dissolve local governments that refuse to balance their budgets by breaking labor contracts.

“According to the law, which has already been approved in the House, the governor will be able to declare “financial emergency” in towns or school districts and appoint someone to fire local elected officials, break contracts, seize and sell assets, and eliminate services.”

According to the Messenger, in a last ditch effort to protect the rights of the citizens, Democrats tried to add an amendment that would require “Emergency Managers” to hold monthly public accountability meetings to inform the citizens of how they are governing, but the amendment was voted down by the Republican senate.

Mark Gaffney, president of the Michigan state AFL-CIO is quoted as saying,

“It takes every decision in a city or school district and puts it in the hands of the manager, from when the streets get plowed to who plows them and how much they are paid. In schools, the manager would decide academics or if you have athletics. This is a takeover by the right wing and it’s an assault on democracy like I’ve never seen.”

Thus, the GOP, this party of “limited government,” intends to completely take over the local governments under their jurisdiction, rescind the will of the voting public, and thumb their noses at any amendment that will require public accountability. And this power-grab is also taking place in other Republican-led states around the country.

This action and what’s going on in Wisconsin and other Republican-led states clearly demonstrates that the leaders of the modern GOP are without limits. To put it bluntly, these people are un-American. They are fundamentally opposed to our way of life, and greatly prefer a dictatorial form of government. George W. Bush let the cat out of the bag by admitting it when he said, “If this were a dictatorship, it’d be a heck of a lot easier…just as long as I’m the dictator.”

Americans need to wake up and connect the dots. The GOP now claims that they are so concerned about the deficit that they must suspend the United States Constitution, yet they weren’t concerned enough about it to suspend giving the top 2% of the population a tax cut that will add $4 Trillion to the deficit over the next ten years. Neither were they concerned enough about the deficit to discontinue taxpayer subsidies to Exxon, one of the riches corporations in the world, nor prevent the political class in congress from giving themselves an extra $93,000 in “petty cash.”

And while they claim to love our troops, they rushed them into battle in Iraq without the necessary gear to protect their lives, and they awarded Dick Cheney’s former corporation, Halliburton (KBR), a no-bid contract to provide the troops with contaminated water and do such shoddy contracting work that at least 18 of our troops were electrocuted while in the shower. The Department of the Army classified their deaths as “negligent homicide.” Then, if that weren’t enough, the GOP fought tooth and nail against giving the troops any additional benefits when they left the service – ins pite of the fact that our troops in Iraq were forced into extended tours of duty and spend more tours of duty in a battle zone than any other troops in American history.

The GOP has demonstrated over the past forty years that they are conniving, lack limits, self-serving, and have little or no respect for the rule of law. Richard Nixon was forced to resign after being involved in the plot to burglarize the DNC in theWatergate Scandal, and there’s evidence that strongly suggests that Ronald Reagan was in collusion with the Iranians to hold American hostages until after he won the presidential election (The hostages were released immediately after he took the oath of office). Reagan also traded arms with his newfound friends during the Iran/Contra scandal. In addition, he flooded American inner cities with drugs to support his illegal war in Nicaragua, then suggested that inner city children “just say no.”

Republican, George W. Bush then went on to lie us into the war with Iraq, costing more than a million lives, including the killing and maiming of thousands of Americans troops. His administration also spied on American citizens, Cheney committed treason by outing a CIA agent, they committed war crimes that included torturing prisoners, and they purposely ravaged the national treasury. Now they’re using the excuse of a depleted treasury to claim “a national emergency” in order to mount yet another assault on the Constitution. And in the meantime, Republicans in congress are demonizing an entire religion as “Islamofascists” to spread hatred and fear and to distract our attention from their horrific agenda.

Doesn’t that feel just the least bit like deja vu?  If it doesn’t it’s probably because you’re a victim of the GOP assault on our educational system. They have a vested interest in keeping you uninformed, because they don’t want you to realize that while you may be on their side, they’re not on yours.  They think of the American people as stupid, and they want to keep us that way.

  1. Please explain how our education system will improve if we fire the Teachers of the year but keep the very teachers that have been in our classrooms for years and year and have contributed to the failure of our schools.
Does that make sense to you? Wouldn’t you want your child to be taught by the best and not by the teacher that is only there because they have tenure.
Does tenure make our children smarter?
I DON’T THINK SO AND YOU DONT’ EITHER.

  2. Every single person and group in this country is to blame for the state of this country and how can anything change if the same people that has destroyed this country remain in charge of this country.
Our Education System didn’t get to this point in a few years, it has taken decades for this country to get here but we still want the same people to lead us even though they were in charge when this country went to HELL.
Do you honestly think giving these idiots more and more of our money will make our country better? I don’t think so.
If your employee was taking your money and wasting it, with nothing to show for it would you continue to give that employee more and more of your money?
I DON’T THINK SO. AND THAT IS EXACTLY WHAT WE WILL BE DOING IF WE CONTINUE TO GIVE THESE IDIOTS BILLIONS AND BILLIONS OF DOLLARS.

  3. Do you honestly think it is a good idea to give these idiots more of our tax dollars? What do we have to show for the billions and billions of dollars that this government has stolen from the hard working Americans in the name of taxes?
Our roads are crumbling, and most important is the education in this country is one of the poorest in the world but yet you want to continue giving the same idiots that have gotten us in this mess more and more of our money. Why? It makes you wonder where that money went.
So we can continue to attacking each other and screaming at each other all the while the idiots in Washington are screwing us over everyday because our attention isn’t focused on what it should be but instead we are focused on destroying each other.
We all want the same thing. We all want the best for this country and our families and we need to come together get our country back on track and make us proud to be Americans again.

  4. Instead of attacking the GOP you might want to ask the Democratic leadership how they squandered the best hand they have ever had with regards to accomplishing their agenda? They had complete control and yet you want to blame the GOP. You might want to ask the Democratic Leadership as to why they didn’t take care of the items you listed when they had complete control.
Majority of the bills passed by the congress were passed without GOP support. The Democrats had complete control but didn’t do a damn thing and now they are yelling at the GOP.
You and your fellow haters need to go take a long hard look in the mirror. You are no better than the Republicans. Both parties are pathetic and we all know it. They keep us at each others throats so they can do what ever they want. And when they are caught they continue the blame game. It’s the Democrats no it’s the Repbulicans. And while the blame game continues we the American people are getting screwed and our “representatives” dont’ give a dam so unless we as Americans don’t come together and remind these idiots that they work for us and not the other way around.

It is sad that Americans of both parties can’t come together and demand these idiots do their jobs. Both parties want the same thing. We want our country to be better. Why can’t we come together, put our differences aside and agree to fight for our country and our way of life. Imagine if we only put half as much effort into making America a better place as we do in attacking each other, how great this country would be.

  5. I have completely rejected both parties for the last two election cycles. I voted for the Constitution party 90% of the time and for the libertarian Party the rest.
This is what we need to do: A complete repudiation of the government in D.C. by not voting for either of these two treasonous corporate led parties. Those who still cling to the illusion of supporting either the Rs or Ds are themselves contributing to their own destruction. These are the people who have been brainwashed by the corporate owned media into believing the scam that is called an election process all the while they are simply ensuring the continued downfall.
Trying to educate these people is going to be very difficult. let’s face it: they are totally propagandized into believing any lie the corporate masters send forth.
fascism? well, we are almost past the point of no return from my point of view. The corporate and wealthy elite now control America and short of open rebellion, which it may actually take, there’s not much we can do except to try to educate the vast majority of American sheeple to the fact that they are being set up.
Please note the influence of zionism which has also led to America’s destruction. Both parties have offered up their posteriors to AIPAC and we are the ones getting f****d.
So there you have it: America pretty much exists in name only. The corporatocracy and zionists now control every media outlet, the government and its bureaucracy, the money supply as well as state governments.
What more could you ask for?
    “Total power”
    The gods help us.

  6. As I’ve said many times before, it is true that both parties are screwing the American people, but the GOP is the screwdriver.

  7. GOP = Government Of Plutarchy / Plutocracy

    or

GOP = Grand Old Plutarchy / Plutocracy

  8. Well, I agree, Bush raped us silly and the iraq war should not have been fought, or at least should have been fought different. However, Congress approved of going to war with Iraq before Bush was even elected!! But besides that, what kind of ASININE person thinks unions within GOV jobs is acceptable. Who are these third party “UNIONS” to demand how much tax payer money they get. All political parties are messed up, and not representing the people. However, the tea party wave bought some new repubs along to stand for us. And it seems not one democrat is resisting obamas communist health care? wtf. ITS BEYOND PARTY LINES HERE. RON PAUL OR DIE AMERICA.

  9. Once again, bring back the draft, let the rich send their kids to the battlefield and suffer lack of proper equipment, shoddy contracts from their rich buddies which may end up killing one of their kids. Level the playing field, bring back the draft !! The rich can afford lawyers, 99% of todays veterans can’t. Sending balck robed judges would be really good for moral, after all, these judges have been systematically eliminating veterans here in America, lets send them to the battlefield for some justice. WE THE PEOPLE, thats all of us, not just the poor, send the rich.

    • Sir, the men and women in the military today are there because they made that choice. So your comment is just stupid.
When you join the military you know the consequences and possibilities.

  10. I am really surprised at the many people posting in here who still buy into that Democrat vs. Republican and Conservative vs. liberal joke, unbelievable. Despite all of the efforts put in by VT and some of us who write comments, these lost souls are still watching CNN, MSNBC, CBS, BBC, ABC and are still reading the NYT and time magazine. How do we expect to defeat these criminals when the majority of the oppressed still believe in propaganda? VT has to do a better job at selecting who can write articles in here, like it or not, you guys represent one of the few sites, along with the french connection, that is dedicated to fight the Israel/city of london/washington dc/the vatican/ rothschild criminal enterprise.

  11. They are now doing this in place of where it should have been done to the bailed out Wall Street banks.

“According to the law, which has already been approved in the House, the government will be able to declare “financial emergency” in bailed out banks and appoint someone to fire bank traders and officials, break bonus contracts, seize and sell assets, and eliminate predatory services.”

  12. Ok, so I read the article and re-read it to make sure. I agree that we need not go down the path that lets “Emergency Managers” exist. I also agree that there are aspects of Fascism in our government. The problem I have is that, while obvious the author and many of those that comment are quite angry, they seem to lose track of the fact that both parties, Rep and Dem, are guilty of crippling our country. They are on an agenda of “Only what my party wants to happen will happen.” President Obama is not the only one to blame or save the country, nor was any president before him. Reagan created more jobs and a richer American than those that have succeed him but he, just like every single president before him, had problems. However, I want to see proof that he flooded America with drugs. I want America to remember that it ASKED president Bush, and even president Obama, to ensure that 9/11 never happened again. Did president Bush go about it right? Perhaps not but at least he did his job and that was to do America’s will. Yes, I realize that not everyone in America wanted us to goto war but the majority did.

A couple other things: America has continually downsized the U.S. Military (Yes, even the Bush Administration) since the Reagan Era and now veterans and retirees are losing their benefits. Active duty personnel still get paid significantly less than those that do the same job as a civilian. America is also REMOVING religion from almost every facet of its government. Nationalism is what founded this country and if that means we are being fascist, then everyone in WWII was fascist. Abortions and sexism are not as rampant as in previous years (I believe that same sex marriages are legal many places in the U.S. now) and corporate power has been protected by each of the last 10 presidents AND congress we have had. Fraudulent elections? There has been controversy with EVERY presidential election since JFK, especially with G.W. Bush, Clinton, and Obama! So if our government is becoming fascist, it is not because of the GOP, but because of the ENTIRE government. Professional Politicians who haven’t held a production job in their life spending DECADES in our federal government keep giving themselves pay raises and helping their corporations out to no bid contracts are the cause and they are from EVERY political party, not just the GOP.

I think the article has its facts, perhaps even straight (I haven’t had the time to check them all) but it also has many assumptions and makes somewhat questionable conclusions. I applaud the author and hope he continues to write (We still have need for muckrakers, which is a compliment BTW) so long as he doesn’t get lost in his disdain for one party so much that he overlooks the other evils of our government. We need a change, just like president Obama said, but it needs to be one where our government remembers that they serve the nation, not the other way around.

  13. To America ? No, not if you fall in to the high income bracket. To the middle
and poverty classes….YOU ARE GODDAMN RIGHT !! They are even pissing off the
stupid Tea Party members that voted them, and their own “so-called” Tea Party
politicians, in to office. “Have you heard about the lonesome loser” (LRB)….
hopefully that will be a majority of GOP and Tea Party Congress people when they get ousted in 2012. Then Obama can get back on track on his principals, and what
    he campaigned on…..

  14. The president can’t do anything but veto bills. It doesn’t matter if he’s a republican a democrat or a dixiecrat, his powers are limited. The problem is all of them, but the major problem is going to be a class war. Some people think they’re rich because they make $250,000 a year. But if they lose that job, they’re out of luck. The rich don’t have to work. Their money works for them. Even CEOs, who do work for millions, get golden parachutes when they retire. You are right. They are equal opportunity abusers.

  15. We’re Not in Lake Wobegon Anymore

How did the Party of Lincoln and Liberty transmogrify into the Party of Newt Gingrich’s Evil Spawn and their Etch-A-Sketch President, a Dull and Rigid Man, whose Philosophy is a Jumble of badly sutured Body Parts trying to Walk?

    by Garrison Keillor (2004)

    http://www.commondreams.org/views04/0831-02.htm

  16. it’s not “has”, it’s “when did”
absolutist thinking has wounded our reputation with the rest of the world over and over again.
We should change our name to: The United States of Hubris
[and it AINT the OPEN MINDED people who cause that]

  17. If you didn’t vote, you chose to be a passive victim.

Mike, not voting is for many a serious moral choice, which is to vote for neither candidate when both, in their view, promote immoral policies. Your party partisanship, by the way, is frightening. Do you realize there are no more than 75 million productive jobs in this country? Who’s going to pay the bills for either party’s spoils of war when these people who actually produce things by the sweat of their labor no longer have jobs and can no longer carry the tax burden? I assume you do not work in the productive economy and imagine the government has money from heaven to spend, so it’s only a matter of the victorious side deciding who cashes in on these real workers labors.

    • Dan, thank you for stating the reason why I chose not to vote last November. Unfortunately, I’m kicking myself in the ass for it. Damned if you do, damned if you don’t. I want these corporate fascists damned now. Damn them to hell!

      • Damned if you do, damned if you don’t. Either way we lose, Kelli, while Mike goes proudly marching over the cliff waving the banner of self-righteousness demands to reorder the world according to those who authored his thoughts and would enslave him. I’ve got friends like Mike who are horrified by the spin on CNN and the mainstream media and others who feel the same revulsion for Fox News. None considers himself one of the brainwashed who thinks on command, yet judging by their knee-jerk reactions, that’s surely the case. Policies are evaluated according to who proposes them and the catchwords used. Why bother studying economics or political philosophy? It’s so much harder than thinking in concatenated cliches and buzz words, calling what you want “rights” and what others want “exploitation,” and there’s no herd running one way or the other to hide in. I’m not validating relativism, but saying that in our present predicament, I agree with you that both herds should be avoided like the moral plague they are. Above, one person makes metaphysical claims about class consciousness in a Marxist context without considering that his Marxism entails a denial of metaphysical reality. Anyway, you sound like a very sincere and thoughtful person who thinks for herself, and I always enjoy reading your comments.

      • My idea has always been to vote “no” on all candidates running for office. The one who has the least “no’s” get the job. I also believe we need a vote of no confidence on our government. That way we can throw all of them out and put someone in who does care about this country.
You know, I bet if we cut their salaries these crooks wouldn’t be in Congress.

  18. The Controversial Video Bernanke Doesn’t Want You To See

WHO IS KEEPING TRACK OF THE TRILLIONS?

Alan Grayson questions the Inspector General of the Federal Reserve – 05/09/10

Start watching at the 3-minute mark. The action begins soon after. At issue is the accounting and oversight for $9 trillion in secret Fed bailouts of Wall Street banks, for which taxpayers are ultimately responsible to the tune of $32,000 for every man, woman and child in this country. Fed audit, anyone?

Editor’s Note: Until the day Bernanke is indicted for crimes against humanity, all we can do is create awareness. Please understand the power of everyone, every single one of you, sending this to just 2 people. Yes, it might sound corny, but it absolutely works. Now, more than 4 million people have seen this clip and become aware of secret bailouts and corruption at the Federal Reserve. All because of you and your emails. But it will take 50 million to beat Bernanke. We believe this video is the perfect introduction to the Fed and it’s abuses for the tens of millions of Americans who are unsure about the role the Fed plays in the banking system. The Federal Reserve is our nation’s 3rd central bank. It is not a government institution. It’s a group of private banks that Congress endowed with the right to print our nation’s currency in 1913. The first two U.S. central banks were eventually defeated by the will of the people, and the same fate awaits the Federal Reserve. It is only a matter of time.

  19. Democrats never really “got” the Senate. There were never 60 Democratic senators and not close to 60 who voted Democratically or democratically.

57 Democratic senators were elected & seated in 2008. 2 independents caucused with Democrats for 59. One seat was vacant for months as Minnesota recounted votes. Finally, Franken was seated to make 58 Democrats and 2 independents caucusing together, but one of the independents was Joe Lieberman for crying out loud.

Okay, so they had a couple minutes where, in theory, they could break a Republican filibuster if all 60 could ever agree on anything, when Kenedy died. And Mass. elected a Republican to replace Kenedy and back to 59.

The Senate is where good bills go to die and the Republicans proved that. At least budget reconciliation only requires a simple majority.

  20. US Government anti-fascist training film from 1947:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=23X14HS4gLk

I see a lot of today’s GOP protrayed in this film, people talking about some people being “real Americans” and others not being, for example.

  21. Yes, the GOP (with the exception of Wyoming) is going directly down the fascism check-list below (and in your graphic):

    http://www.ratical.org/ratville/CAH/fasci14chars.html

    • Artemis, you can’t even spell “radical”. You’re just another fascist / racist/ socialist. Get a life.

  22. Eric, you got ‘em stirred up. This country seems to continue its arrogant history of genocide of the natives and enslavement of the Africans and virtual enslavement of many uneducated working class ethnic immigrants over the last 500 years. As you say, both parties bear responsibility but the GOP seems to be the screw driver. It also seems that because a young black democratic got elected it really pissed off some of these incarnated plantation masters. And the sadistic entertainers Beck and Limbaugh are helping feed the hate. I was very saddened and disappointed with the democratic party when John Kerry and Hillary Clinton voted for the war in Iraq. What a sell-out. We do need a third peoples party that MLK may have led had he lived. He acknowledged class as much as race. Obama is immature and may have made deals with the Clintons and other sellouts. I have to trust my moral instincts since I dont have alot of the information. When I was in Vietnam I hadnt known where the hell Vietnam was. But when I had been there for 3 months in combat I realized that I had been lied to and used for my trusting working class catholic values and that I swore as I disobeyed many orders to kill and burn in Vietnam that never again would I let myself be that trusting. I also swore that I would spend my life helping others to be aware of where there loyalties lie and why. At least I could use my combat vet credentials to highlight an alternative view to fellow vets who been had and others. When I was mistreated as a machinist, I found a union job and realized again that there are decent people who alow freedom to bargain. In working for the Federal Gov. I again learned the value of a union. My first strike began in Vietnam and most people and soldiers are afraid to say no. We have alot of work to do.

  23. Just look at the corrupt presidents the GOP and deluded voters have foisted on us, starting with Nixon in 1968: a movie buffoon, Ronald Reagan; a lying CONTRA supporter, George Bush-the First, who had a mindless and immature VP, Dan Quayle, to frighten the nation against ANYthing that might cause older Bush to leave office (like his heart attack); George Bush the 2d, probably the worst in our history, a puppet to a devious VP, Dick Cheney. Along with Zionist Israel, the GOP is the worst threat to our society. – George Beres

    • Don’t forget Nixon’s veep was Spiro Agnew. Now he was a piece of work. If you killed Nixon, you got someone a lot worse.

      • You’re right B.A. That’s why Kennedy picked Lyndon Johnson. A lot of good it did him!

  24. Has it become a threat? You just figured this out? The republicans have been destroying america since the beginning of the Eisenhower regime.

  25. E, my buddy,

Change GOP to Democrat and your article would be less of a fabricaion :)

Remember all those jerks who are the leaders of your infamous USPS series? All Democrats!

Get a real life and lets have lunch my friend.

    T.V.

    • You’ve said nothing of any substance. Like all GOPers, you just point at the other side and say, “it’s your fault because you’re a liberal,” and you think that’s intelligent enough to sway the “true patriots.” If a Republican actually talked specifics on the issues WITH credible resources and statistics, I think the entire world would collectively faint.

      • That is their “intellectual” argument, “I know I am but what are you?” or “I’m rubber and you are glue…” They have to be anti-intellectual b/c they have no intellectual argument. In fact, disdain for intellectuals is point 11 on conservatives’ 14 point plan for America: http://www.ratical.org/ratville/CAH/fasci14chars.html

      • Well, Carol and Artemis and others, sometimes it is hard to be factually explicit with numbnut liberals. You folks are too brain-washed. Remember two axioms that describe the liberal mentality:

        1. Statistics don’t lie, but liars lie with statistics.
        2. On each election day, vote early and vote often.

I could add a bunch more, but as group, you most likely wouldn’t even understand those two, other than to blindly follow your blind liberal “leaders”.

But keep posting. You all are fun to watch.

        T.V.

        • You are an f’ing buffoon. No one here takes you seriously. Except other braindead morons.

          • Right back at you, you mostly worthless idjit. You’re also fun to watch, in a sick sort of way.

          • Fox news is on you bozo. Better get your talking points, cuz you can’t think of any on your own.

      • ” It’s the left!!! ”

        ” No, it’s the right!!! ”

        ” Nooo, it’s the left!!! ”

        ” Noooooo, it’s the right!!! ”

        ” Nooooooooooo, it’s the left!!! ”

        EPIC YAWN!!!

        • Anyone who has read my posts should have figured out that I no longer support the left and think the right is just plain stupid. Like Texas Vet for instance. Afterall, he signed up thinking he was protecting our country and all the while was being duped by corporate fascists!

          • Nah, Kelli, as a young kid, I just believed ALL non-crook Americans believed in the Constitution, automatically. Yeah, I thought I was protecting our country for Americans of all shapes, colors and sizes, regardless of their belief systems. To me, this is and was what America is all about. I paid a horrendous price for it, physically and mentally.

But, you know what? I’ll go to my grave knowing I did the right thing for all of you — for all of my family — and for my karmas. Let the hereafter be my judge, because, I’d do it again.

  26. Absolutely. They could care less about this country; it’s all about the power and the money.Folks need to wake up. By voting them back in, either by voting for them — thinking you were getting anything different than who they’ve shown themselves to be, just because they had a two-year temper tantrum — or by not voting (which means you voted), we are seeing what is tantamount to a hostile corporate takeover in which they are raiding the middle class assets. These folks have been picked up off the corporate corner and are performing the service they got paid for. Ever wonder why no viable GOP candidate is coming forward to run? It’s because there won’t be much left after they have locked and loaded the economy behind their gated communities by 2012 — although they will be back in 2016 for the auction of whatever’s left over.”

    • I live in Wisconsin and did not vote in November and now we’re stuck with Walker. During my awakening after 9/11, I thought the Republicans were the devil and all we needed was a Democratic majority and President, to set things right. I was wrong and figured that out before the 2008 Presidential election, so I voted for Cynthia McKinney. Now the crap has hit the fan in my state and I pretty much feel forced to support the Democrats if only to oust this fascist dictator, Walker. It’s really quite frustrating! I find myself wishing for civil war! How messed up is that?

  27. “They have a vested interest in keeping you uninformed. They don’t want you to realize that while you may be on their side, they’re not on yours. They think of the American people as stupid, and they want to keep us that way.”

It’s called “idiocracy” and it invariably accompanies oligarchy, which is what the GOP has produced in America.

  28. J,

I don’t disagree that both parties are screwing the American, but the GOP is the screw driver. It’s not the Democrats who are trying to disenfranchise the citizens of Michigan,Wisconsin, Ohio, Florida, etc. It’s the GOP.

    • The basic course 101 in Intel operations is that if the deal goes bad you have to have a firebreak where the unhappy people go after someone that is not you.

I might suggest to all who love to play pin the tail on the Dem or Repub donkey that the folks who are very experienced game players are way ahead of everybody on this. They rarely do interviews, and try to never have their photographs taken, nor their families.

Y’all need to move your scope sites up a few clicks.

    • First it was Reagan and his initiation to kill unions by firing the air traffic controllers. Then Clinton and a Republican Congress basically signed off on shipping jobs out of the country with bad trade agreements, then the push to deregulate industries. Now we have a president who is too cozy with Goldman Sachs and big business in general while Republicans have gone batsh*t crazy, looking to make state-by-state dictatorships. It’s all a mess and both parties, not equally but still, are accountable.

  29. You didn’t read the article, did you?

You’re suggesting that the president did something wrong, and so it’s the dem’s fault. But you don’t actually supply this claim, cause that would be lying. you just suggest that we should all know what it is.

I’m calling BS. Either name your accusation, or quit pointing out who is the president and who his political party is as a distraction.

    • Jordan, I hope you’ll ignore J.F.E.’s reply…typical of the uninformed. You would save yourself a lot of frustration by just banging your head against the wall…For JFE, and people like him, ignorance is bliss.

Clearly, he DIDN’T read the article, or at the very least he didn’t read it with an open mind…He’s either an Obama or democrat hater, and to that end, there’s just no reasoning with the insane…

    • So True, J.F.E.!

  30. Yeah, it’s a real shame there wasn’t a second party that was ever voted into office in the history of America. Surely they would fix things.

  31. Politicians are put there to give you the illusion of choice… you have no choice, you have owners. THEY OWN YOU!

It’s a big club, and YOU AIN’T IN IT.

  32. A VERY important film:
    Lifting the Veil
    http://richardbrenneman.wordpress.com/2011/03/11/a-very-very-important-film-%E2%80%98lifting-the-veil%E2%80%99/

I was a Kucinich supporter who voted for Obama …Never again..

I think I have seen most of the political documentaries produced over the past 12 years…In my opinion this is one of the best. Although it doesn’t cover 9/11..It is an excellent introduction to the depth of corruption that exists in this country….. on this planet.

  33. An academic point really but as an ideological label Gramscian Marxism seems to fit. Marxism is Fascism is Marxism, same plan, same origins, same result, Tyranny the only real difference the hats and the uniforms.

Gramsci (1891-1937) agreed with Karl Marx that every society could be divided into “oppressor” and “oppressed” classes Fonte documents how Gramsci distinguished two ways the dominant group exercises control, whereas Marx had only written of one.
First, there is direct domination through coercion or force – political might in service of the economic interests of the bourgeoisie. Second, there is what Gramsci calls hegemony, which means the pervasive and mostly tacit use of a system of values that supports and reinforces the interests of the dominant groups. The repressed groups may not even know they are repressed, in Gramsci’s view, because they have internalized the system of values that justifies their repression. They have internalized a “false consciousness” and become unwitting participants in their own domination.

    • The idea of “false consciousness,” no doubt, has been recognized and fully understood by the “real” liberators within history – who have always been socio-political and aligned within or as part of some sort of justice movement. It has been no less understood by those who seek to prevent such emergence of consciousness or knowing. Naturally, it is the force of the Powers-That-Be which of necessity are launched against this burgeoning consciousness, understanding and knowing. You would never know it from history or modern media because to acknowledge it is to give it credence — something the subsidiary of the Power-That-Be cannot allow. Unfortunately, being from Michigan, I know full well the frustrating depth of such false consciousness and the way in which it is controlled. How, for example, to convince a conservative – formerly employed and comfortably middle-class – line worker within one of the Big 3’s factories, that economic policies espoused by both modern Democrat and Republican governmental agents or administration are – in fact – the same neo-liberal slag? Moreover, how to convince them that their media – be it conservative or liberal (whatever that means) – that it is nothing more than propaganda.

The Powers-That-Be, too, have the advantage of shaping the message, a result of regulating towards ineffectualness the truly communicative acts emerging from novel communicative technologies… thus every emergent communicative technology is eventually regulated into the futility of consumptive, market-driven commodification in “free, democratic and open societies,” while they are merely banned in the more explicitly despotic regimes. Thereby, they are rendered meaningless as the outcomes of use (i.e. costs of use, etc.) are privileged over the meanings of inherent content (i.e. facts, their evaluation apart from consciousness shaping message maintenance and their honest appraisal through critical thought). If you think this isn’t so consider printing, wire, radio, television, and the internet. All broken through regulation for the sake of controlling consciousness from expanding or encompassing new, possibly “disturbing” understanding.

  34. Just how is it proposed to “wake up” Americans to the Republican oligarchy? Americans are notoriously narcoleptic and vote like lemmings to the du jour issue of the day and who sounds the most sonorous tones.

  35. Eric
A big “duh” on that one. Here in Ohio, our new governor can’t decide if he is Himmler or Stalin.
    g

    • Lol,

      G,

I hope you get on this as well. We need to turn this issue into an echo chamber of indignation. The people MUST be made to understand that this is not simply politics. This is an American issue that we must win, or it’s the end of America as we know it.

    • Anna Kreisling KG-200

The Governor of Wisconsin is a brain-dead rodent who reminds me of Joseph Stalin! I flew Heinrich Himmler to various meetings from 1937-1938 and he would be insulted to be compared to this moron who belongs with the THREE STOOGES in Hollywood. In fact the Governor of Wisconsin within the Third Reich wouldn’t qualify to feed monkeys in the Berlin Zoo!!
I would like to thank Veterans Today for running an article about me flying the Junkers JU-390 and JU-52 Trimotor. I love both aircraft and still enjoy flying! America is a great country and I love the soldiers I met in Patton’s Army in World War II. I was very lucky to be captured by these great guys!!!

  36. Very nicely done… but I actually think it is more of a class thing. The republicans will justify anything in the name of greed and their ridicules Freedman Reaganomics.

We should add Michael Moore’s speech to the argument as he had a lot of high points on March 5th 2011 at the state capitol.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wgNuSEZ8CDw

    • You guys are all so ignorant! It is actually Obama’s politics you should all be worried about! Look where he is leading us! Armageddon!

      • Put your tin foil hat back on and stop watching fox news (its not real) or I am I giving you to much credit (you would have to have a brain in order to pull that off).

        • Put yours back on first msnbc, nbc, cbs, abc, cnn, pbs, are not real. Unions destroy America not help it you idiots. Unions are for unions. mor money for them to live fat and push the socilist and communist ideals. Your the problem dumbass! michael moore is not giving up his millions to any of you lazy bastards. What happend to making it on your own? You want a cmmunist or socialist country move to one!

          • Don,

whether oo not the people want to be represented by unions should be up to the people, not the government. Don’t you believe in your own conservative rhetoric of limited government and democracy?

      • Melanie Siebert

Ignorance is indeed rampant but it’s coming from you and your foxnewsbrainwash! keep your crap to yourself! we don’t need it here! self-righteous prig!

        • Good point! Also notice that FOX is contemplating getting rid of Glenn Beck. If he were ever that correct in what he preached, would they even consider doing that? Food for thought.

      • You’re both wrong. Any observable differences between the Democratic Party and the Republican Party are illusory. Their members cross party lines to move their shared agenda along. This agenda is handed to them by fascist bankers, most of them European.

        • At least there’s one intelligent person on this website. Bunch of fascist and communist shills trading insults. Fascism and communism are teaming up to destroy the Republic in this day and age, and all the idiots are just lapping it up.

    • If a city or state can’t balance their budget, then drastic measures must be taken. But, like you, I don’t believe in Government control. But please, don’t bring up Michael Moore, he is so disillusioned!

      • Look in the mirror if you want to see someone who is disillusioned. Keep drinking the republican kool-aid!

      • Spoken like a true Stepford denizen. Please ask yourself one question. When was the last time a Republican president balanced a budget? In fact, when was the last time a Republican president didn’t create a fiscal disaster? Ronald Reagan raised the national debt by 189% – he almost tripled it.

        When will you learn?

      • Michael Moore is a hero! Wake up and look at all of his
        documentaries. He uses humor beautifully.

    • No chance in Hell that I would ever become a serf for the big corps.

  37. Mr.Eric L. Wattree: Thursday,March 17th,2011
“Has the GOP Become a Threat to America.”
The blame for where we are and how we got here, here in the
United America’s,is shared by all. That is, the Republican Party,
the Democratic Party, the Independent Party, as well as, “We the People.”
“We the people” FAILED to heed President Dwight D. Eisenhowers’
    warning!
Thanking you for your interest in this matter,I am,
