Westinghouse Invites US Veterans to Their Work Force

Westinghouse Encourages US Veterans To Apply Today

By Randy Miller

It began in the Age of Steam—a 19th century success story that resonates in the 21st century. George Westinghouse, a spunky teenager with a head full of ideas, seizes opportunity after opportunity to make technology better, faster, more efficient. In the process, he helps improve the way people live. He starts a company, then another, then dozens of them. His ventures survive him and evolve through decade after turbulent decade into forms he couldn’t have predicted, but would no doubt have understood.

Master workman. Founder. Inventor. Organizer. More than any other man, George Westinghouse was responsible for the introduction and development of alternating current for light and power. With the desire to turn ideas into enterprises, he founded Westinghouse Electric and 59 other companies, eventually receiving over 100 patents for his work.

Born in Central Bridge, New York, on October 6, 1846, George Westinghouse was the eighth of 10 children. When the family moved to Schenectady, New York, his father established a shop for agricultural machinery and small steam engines. After serving in the Union Army during the Civil War, and briefly attending college, Westinghouse returned to his father’s shop where, in 1865, he developed and patented a rotary steam engine. That same year he invented a device for placing derailed freight cars back on their tracks.

Westinghouse knows that it’s important to enjoy the work you do, where you do it. Their company culture thrives when they maintain this balance. They care about their employees. They offer a solid benefits package and encourage you to develop your professional skills. Their facilities are clean and environmentally safe for you and for your community. Offices range from modern technology parks to laboratories to manufacturing plants. There is a great deal of pride in the name “Westinghouse.” Their satisfaction comes from their success in the past and their confidence in the future. Each year, they strive to hire new college graduates and interns and are aggressively reaching out to employ our US Veteran community. They have proudly joined with HireVeterans.com in order to achieve this goal in reaching out to our talented Veteran community.

At Westinghouse, they support their employees’ continual learning and professional skills development. Their success is a direct result of each employee’s knowledge and training.

As part of this training, all new employees participate in an orientation program to become familiar with the company, other employees, and policies. In addition, they encourage job-related development activities to assist in maintaining and improving working skills and knowledge. Examples of these activities include job enrichment, cross-training, and college courses.

Westinghouse currently has careers available throughout the world. They are encouraging our Veteran community to apply to their careers because they realize you value the importance of team work.
