Bob Dylan PLAYED Tel Aviv Sends Israel Message

by Eileen Fleming

I was ‘tangled up and blue’ over Bob Dylan performing in Tel Aviv and ignoring the Palestinian call for Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions until Israel quits being the ‘neighborhood bully’, so I wrote him ‘a letter and I wrote it so kind. I put down in writing what was in my mind’ in the article Facebookers Call for Bob Dylan to Boycott Israeli Concert

But, as it’s the silence between the notes that makes music dynamic and as silence can say more than many words, as I viewed video of Bob’s opening number in Tel Aviv, I ‘changed my way of thinking’ when I saw him play with joy and remain silent the second time the line “Jesus is coming” in Gonna Change My Way Of Thinking arrived.

What follows is ‘the message, the one that was sent to me’ excerpted from Bob’s Tel Aviv Playlist.

“I am Gonna Change My Way of Thinking make myself a different set of rules…STOP being influenced by FOOOOOOOLS…Jesus is coming. He’s coming on back to gather his jewels…Well, we living by the golden rule? Whoever got the gold rules!

“Every day you got to pray for guidance…Storms are on the ocean, storms on the mountain, too…Oh LORD, you know I got no friend like you.

“I am going to Change my way of thinking, make myself a different set of rules…STOP being influenced by FOOOOOOOLS!”

“People are crazy and times are strange…I’m in the wrong town, I should be in Hollywood…Lot of water under the bridge, lot of other stuff too…I’m only passing through. People are crazy and times are strange…You can hurt someone and not even know it…I used to care, but things have changed.”

“Well, I’m standin’ on the table, I’m proposing a toast to the King…

Well, my back has been to the wall for so long, it seems like it’s stuck…Standing by God’s river, my soul is beginnin’ to shake…Well, I’m leaving in the morning as soon as the dark clouds lift…Gonna break the roof in—set fire to the place as a parting gift.”

“People tell me it’s a sin To know and feel too much within…Blame it on a simple twist of fate.”

“The walls of pride are high and wide. Can’t see over to the other side.”

“Michshol Hafrada” is Hebrew for “The Separation Wall” and that translates to Apartheid Wall in Afrikaan.

The Apartheid Wall has divided Palestinians from Palestinians and has stolen their aquifers, denies them access to their land, jobs, families and holy sites and consumes over $1.25 Million USA Tax dollars every day- a 2006 estimate!

Looking at a map of the so called Holy Land today it is clear to see that Palestine has been divided into enclaves; Bantustans!

According to international law, every settlement is illegal as is the Michshol Hafrada.

The Jewish only settlements are in reality colonies and they divide Palestinian neighborhoods throughout occupied territory. The Michshol Hafrada traps over 100,000 indigenous Palestinians and over 600 checkpoints deny the indigenous people access to their land, jobs, families and holy sites.

Evictions and home demolitions have become the status quo in the so called Holy Land and since 1967, over 22,000 dwellings -averaging eleven people per unit- have been bulldozed by Israeli forces because they interfere with settlement expansion.

Israel attempts to justify these immoral actions in three distinct categories:

1. Collective Punishment-homes of suspected terrorists-in reality that is anyone who opposes the occupation- and the families of suicide/homicide bombers. These punitive actions amount to 15% of the over 18,000 homes destroyed since 1967.

2. Administrative demolitions for lack of building permits- which Israel refuses to issue-account for 25%. In occupied east Jerusalem one out of four Palestinian homes have a demolition order.

3. “Security” reasons-the blanket response to all of Israel’s injustices and illegal actions.

Backed by Americans tax dollars and USA foreign policy of blind allegiance and silent collusion with the Israeli courts and government, it will take international outrage to change course, for Congress is Occupied by Zionist Hawks.

Back to Bob in Tel Aviv:

“I heard the sound of a thunder, it roared out a warnin’…Heard ten thousand whisperin’ and nobody listenin’…And it’s a hard, and it’s a hard, it’s a hard, it’s a hard And it’s a hard rain’s a-gonna fall…And I’ll tell it and think it and speak it and breathe it and reflect it from the mountain so all souls can see it…I’ll know my song well before I start singin’ And it’s a hard, it’s a hard, it’s a hard, it’s a hard
It’s a hard rain’s a-gonna fall.”

“Feel like my soul is beginning to expand. Look into my heart and you will sort of understand…The writing’s on the wall, come read it, come see what it say…Gonna forget about myself for a while, gonna go out and see what others need…Everybody got to wonder what’s the matter with this cruel world today Thunder on the mountain rolling to the ground…Some sweet day I’ll stand beside my King…Shame on your greed, shame on your wicked schemes…For the love of God, you ought to take pity on yourself .”

“You try so hard but you don’t understand…something is happening here But you don’t know what it is…And you ask, “Is this where it is?”…And you say, “What’s mine?”…And you say, “Oh my God Am I here all alone?” But you don’t know what it is…something is happening here but you don’t know what it is.”

“How does it feel, To be without a home, Like a complete unknown.”

“There must be some way out of here,” said the joker to the thief “There’s too much confusion, I can’t get no relief. Businessmen, they drink my wine, plowmen dig my earth. None of them along the line know what any of it is worth.

“No reason to get excited,” the thief, he kindly spoke, “There are many here among us who feel that life is but a joke…let us not talk falsely now, the hour is getting late”

Bob closed with Blowin’ In The Wind

How many roads must a man walk down
Before you call him a man?
Yes, n how many seas must a white dove sail
Before she sleeps in the sand?
Yes, n how many times must the cannon balls fly
Before they’re forever banned?
How many times must a man look up
Before he can see the sky?
Yes, n how many ears must one man have
Before he can hear people cry?
Yes, n how many deaths will it take till he knows
That too many people have died?
How many years can a mountain exist
Before it’s washed to the sea?
Yes, n how many years can some people exist
Before they’re allowed to be free?

Yes, n how many times can a man turn his head,
Pretending he just doesn’t see?
The answer, my friend, is blowin in the wind,
The answer is blowin in the wind…

Come gather round people
Wherever you roam
And admit that the waters
Around you have grown
And accept it that soon
You’ll be drenched to the bone.
If your time to you
Is worth savin
Then you better start swimmin
Or you’ll sink like a stone
For the times they are a-changin.

Come writers and critics
Who prophesize with your pen
And keep your eyes wide
The chance won’t come again

Come senators, congressmen
Please heed the call
Don’t stand in the doorway
Don’t block up the hall
For he that gets hurt
Will be he who has stalled
There’s a battle outside
And it is ragin.
It’ll soon shake your windows
And rattle your walls
For the times they are a-changin.

My ‘hair’s still red’ and I’m ‘crying like a fire in the sun’ wondering if anyone in Israel got the message above; as ‘I lay awake and listen to the sound of pain’ coming “West of the Jordan, east of the Rock of Gibraltar” and I “See the Groom still waiting at the altar…West of the Jordan, east of the Rock of Gibraltar. I see the burning of the stage. Curtain rising on a new age. See the groom still waiting at the altar” and in Christian lingo the Groom is Jesus.

“Years ago they … said I was a prophet. I used to say, ‘No I’m not a prophet’ they say ‘Yes you are, you’re a prophet.’ I said, ‘No it’s not me.’ They used to say ‘You sure are a prophet.’ They used to convince me I was a prophet. Now I come out and say Jesus Christ is the answer. They say, ‘Bob Dylan’s no prophet.’” [1]

The best understanding of a prophet is one who points out danger ahead and provokes those so inclined to think about God-to THINK!

  1. This comment comes late. Eileen I think you have done fabulous job with all this and I think you are blessed with a kind heart and an understanding of things that few people have.
I hope that Florida sun doesn’t give you continual sunburn; my Irish skin could not handle Florida.

    • It’s never too late to say sweet words of encouragement and support!

PS: I have had a few skin cancers removed and although i quit baking myself at the beach many years ago- the damage was already done in my misspent youth which was before sun screen was invented.

  2. Art, I need to clarify–because Bob never could, and that was his mystique–when he wrote about the Masters of War, he was in his early 20s. That said, listening to the lyrics & reading between the lines as one has to in all Dylan songs, just who do you think those Masters of War were he was speaking of? Yes–the bankers, the Generals, the presidents, you name it and its there. The GOP. THAT said, how can you say he is “deflecting the crime from the real criminals”?! Have you not heard The Lonesome Death of Hattie Carroll, to name just ONE of his song/poems that deal with crime & criminals? I suggest you research a bit more before coming to such a rash conclusion. But that’s just my opinion. Bob always said his songs didn’t mean anything. //;-)

  3. Is there anyone on this forum that has considered another possibility about Dylan? That he was given an offer he couldn’t refuse – probably many years ago. The offer could have gone something like – either tow the israeli line, and don’t write any more meaningful protest songs (like Masters of War) and live and thrive ….. or else….. Maybe he chose to not be another casualty of truth. Just a thought.

    • Bob Dylan does in music what Noam Chomsky does in activism: deflecting the crime from the real criminals. Dylan blamed the Masters of War, not the bankers who caused and benefited from the wars. Chomsky blames America for Israel’s crimes. Neither Dylan nor Chomsky need “offers”. They are part of the cult. It is us who are childishly distracted by the sound of music and MIT prestige goaded to think it is “art’ and “scholarship”.

  4. Dylan is right on, except for one thing.

Jesus isn’t coming. Well, at least not in person.

No, in fact, Jesus said he had to go away and be seen no more, but another would come at the end of the age to issue judgment, guide us to the truth, show us things to come, and glorify the Christ who is in heaven with God.

That one sings a new song … songs, actually … one of which (Why Fight Over a Name?) has a chorus that states:

“Yeah, lots of people say they know God’s name.

    But to me they all speak of the same;

of the Great Spirit-Parent who loves us all.

Why fight over a name? Why don’t we tear down that wall?”

    Listen to it at http://www.soundlclick.com/ttap

    • That link went to a “404 NOT FOUND” and i would love to hear it, so can you please try again?

JC’s best other name is The Prince of PEACE and if he is to be ‘resurrected’ in ‘the flesh’ it will be within people of Peace!

Two thousand years ago, there was lively debate about whom the Christ-the very first WIDE AWAKE man.

Until the Church got in bed with Emperor Constantine, all the churches were hot beds of individuality and not the institutions that have become big business today.

In 1994, Spong wrote, Resurrection: Myth or Reality? which faced the fact that viewing the resurrection of The Prince of Peace as PHYSICAL was a late developing tradition in early Christianity, which was called The Way until the days of Paul, in the third decade.

Paul as well as the gospel writers of Mark and Matthew made NO such claim that the burst of life, light and energy that accompanied the birth of Christianity was dependent on this orthodox theology or any dogma.

In 1996, Spong wrote, Liberating the Gospels, he contended that the writers of the synoptic gospels-Luke, Matthew and Mark- were NOT eye witnesses to the life and death of The Prince of Peace and these gospels/good news were not even based on eye witness memories.

Instead, they were liturgical works organized around the Jewish liturgical year and were NOT to be taken literally, but probed within the Jewish context.

The Prince of Peace/Jesus was never a Christian; but a social justice, radical revolutionary nonviolent Palestinian devout Jewish road warrior who rose up and challenged the job security of the Temple authorities by teaching the people they did NOT need to pay the priests for ritual baths or sacrificing livestock to be OK with God; for God already LOVED them just as they were: poor, diseased, outcasts, widows, orphans, refugees and prisoners all living under Roman Military Occupation.

What got The Prince of Peace crucified was disturbing the status quo of the Roman Occupying Forces by teaching the subversive concept that God/Pure Being preferred the humble, the poor, diseased, outcasts, widows, orphans, refugees and prisoners all living under a brutal Roman Occupation above the powerful, elite and arrogant.

    • God gave us all a brain that we should use it!

As there is so much heavy baggage attached to the name God, I propose a new name: Pure Being.

And I imagine that Paul Tillich would appreciate it.

Tillich was a refugee from Nazi Germany, a Christian existentialist and American theologian. Tillich philosophized that the existential questions of human existence centered on ontology: the study of the nature of being, existence and reality in general.

Before Tillich died in 1965, he proposed a 100-year moratorium on the use of the word God, because it had become so corrupted.

The concept of Being, “appears in the present system in three places: in the doctrine of God, where God is called the being as being or the ground and the power of being; in the doctrine of man, where the distinction is carried through between man’s essential and his existential being; and finally, in the doctrine of the Christ, where he is called the manifestation of the New Being, the actualization of which is the work of the divine Spirit.” Tillich, Systematic Theology Vol. 2, p.10

For this Christian Anarchist-Buddhist with a dose of dervish, Jesus for me is my Brother and The Prince of Peace.

  5. Bob Dylan sucks.

(an ex-fan, who doesn’t support artistes who toady to apartheid & never did)

  6. What’s god got to do with it? Well, god is the problem not solution. The same Jesus god who tells his “sheep” to love their enemies, joyfully sends his enemies to hell. There is more to the New Testament than the sermon on the mount, only found in Matthew and Luke. And the famous sermon only makes sense if the world is about to implode. It is flat out stupid.

“But bring hither those enemies of mine, who did not want me to reign over them, and slay them before me.” – Luke 19:27

All three of these god religions, Judaism, Christianity and Islam are violent and hateful. Imagine no religion.

    Amen,
    Infidel

  7. Eileen,

Some of us were Dylan fans WAY back. I remember vividly buying my copy of HIGHWAY 61 REVISITED in 1966, thinking he was the greatest thing since sliced baloney. (I was right about the baloney part).

IAll of them fell away long ago. It was his Zion thing, which was followed by his “Christian” thing (during which he still went to Tel Aviv on bended knee, BTW) then… I stopped caring. Thanks for the reminder. I would have probably forgot about buying his album had I not read this.

Main thing is, when you get to the Logos, check out Ma’at. It was a concept represented by a divine female eons before the Greeks or Hebrews had any screws to think with and for my money it was better. It’s only a preference, all such concepts are so intertwined. But as the white feather of our better natures, Ma’at is probably the grandma of them all.

  8. As with any rockstar or famous personality, they do bring attention and power to an issue of importance for example the Palestinian struggle against the tyranny of Israel and its apartheid policies as well as the seizure of Palestinian land. I believe that Bob Dylan has a right to play anywhere he wants, however, by performing in Israel he has shown his disregard for this important issue. If he cared about the Palestinian and Israeli struggle, he would have chosen to cancel his engagement or as suggested, play in Gaza or the West Bank. That would have made a statement. I dont think Bob Dylan is concerned about Palestinians and performs wherever he can make some money. Thanks Eileen for your topics and viewpoint. Best, Doug

    • Thank you Doug for reading me and thanking me for trying to make lemonade out of lemons; as that is just my nature.

Also i strive not to judge any other as that is my faith and hope, “For with the measure you measure against another, it will be measured back to you” Christ warned his disciples when he explained the law of karma in Luke 6:27-38.

All the best of the best 2U, e

  9. Mumbly old Bob Zimmerman probably went and kissed the wall after his show, with his beanie on…f*ck him he’ll be dead soon

  10. While the music plays

Committee of the Israeli Knesset (Parliament) passed a first draft of a law that will require that Palestinians whose homes are destroyed by Israeli forces pay the Israeli government for the demolition costs.

The law will now be passed to the full Knesset for a final reading, where it is expected to pass due to the current makeup of the Knesset.

Since 1967, Israeli forces have demolished 24,813 Palestinian homes. 90% of these homes were destroyed for ‘administrative’ reasons – because they either lacked a permit or were in an area designated for expansion by the Israeli military. No permits have been issued by Israeli authorities for Palestinian construction in the Occupied Territories since 1967. The remaining 10% of the demolitions have been ‘punitive’ demolitions of the homes of Palestinians accused of attacking Israel, or of their families’ homes.

  11. I see from the Electronic Intifada that Jello Biafra pulled out of a Tel Aviv gig recently. Bringing up some questions about that which would apply to Bob Dylan also Did Bob Dylan give the proceeds from the gig to a charity? Did he also play a gig in Palestine? I’d like to know.

    • shekels bob is the charity.

playing to palestinians would not serve him.

he cares not for morals, ethics, justice.

shekels bob has always been about pretense.

      • joe.. Bob has not played in Israel for nearly TWENTY years. if it was all about ‘shekels’, bob could have played Tel Aviv EVERY year for a few million $$$!! He went to deliver a message. Unlike previous concerts, such as the two prior to Tel Aviv, he was distant to audience and did not say ONE word! In sharp contrast, he was jovial and friendly in Cork and London, cordially introducing his band and ending with “Thank you, my Friends!”.. See AP report on Tel Aviv concert review!… ‘All about shekels’– he played in Viet Nam for $36.00!..Why did he waste his time there, by your reasoning??.. Dylan has always confronted injustice with his SONGS and THAT he DID in Israel!..boycott was never his way of doing things and THANK GOD for that!..Dylan getting out there and imbedding his lyrics in hearts and minds played crucial role for civil rights in USA! .. ISRAELIS NEEDED to hear from Bob..and change MUST BEGIN in hearts and minds!!

        • Thank you very JUST Judy!

As Bob sang, “The Walls of PRIDE are high and wide, you can’t see over to the Other side.”

As JC said, “They have eyes that do not see and ears that do not hear” and i add hearts that do not bleed for the Other!

As Rabbi Lerner-who BTW is a Zionist- wrote:

“From Moses to Jeremiah and Isaiah, the Prophets taught…that the Jewish claim on the land of Israel was totally contingent on the moral and spiritual life of the Jews who lived there, and that the land would, as the Torah tells us, ‘vomit you out’ if people did not live according to the highest moral vision of Torah. Over and over again, the Torah repeated its most frequently stated mitzvah [command]:

“When you enter your land, do not oppress the stranger; the other, the one who is an outsider of your society, the powerless one and then not only ‘you shall love your neighbor as yourself’ but also ‘you shall love the other.'”
          http://www.wearewideawake.org/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=631&Itemid=176

“What does God require? He has told you o’man! Be just, be merciful, and walk humbly with your Lord.” -Micah 6:8

  12. Many people call themselves “Christian-Zionists.” As far as the general public is concerned, Bob Dylan is still on the fence. He needs to get off. He needs to take a clear stand. He sang about Jesus, but does Bob Dylan really understand?

Eileen, you’re getting more exposure. Put it to him. His soul is on the line.

You want Bob to mean it the way you’re taking it. I do too, but I want to know for sure — one Christian to another — Bob to Tom — Bob to Eileen. I know you get it.

You have a good heart. It shows through here. Everyone can see it.

    Peace to you, friend!

    • Thank you Tom, but I say it is your good heart that see’s the good in me, for we all project onto others what is within our self.

I do NOT know what Bob believes about JC, but he did say: “The only person you have to think twice about lying to is either yourself or to God.”

I do know that many Christians do not even know that they are Zionists!

Tikkun is Hebrew for mend, repair and transform the world and Tikkun is also an organization that researched to discover that there are three distinct elements energizing the Christian Zionists:

      1. A strong commitment to conservative and ultra-nationalist American politics (so strong, I believe, that if the U.S. were to decide to break with Israel, this part of the Christian Zionist leadership would go along with that and drop its defense of Israeli policies).

      2. Dispensationalist religious commitments that lead many of the Christian Zionists to yearn for a cataclysmic “end of history” eschatological war in the Middle East that will precipitate the second coming of Jesus and the Rapture in which all true Christians will go to heaven and all Jews who have not yet converted to Christianity will burn in hell for eternity.

      3. A widespread understanding among many Christians that atonement and repentance is needed for 1700 years of murder, rape, and oppression of Jews that was frequently generated by the Church (though, of course, the Evangelicals do not recognize that church as their church). In this category are many Christian Zionists who genuinely feel terrible about what has happened to the Jews and genuinely want to help the Jewish people. Their philo-Semitism is real and sincere. [Rabbi Lerner, Tikkun Magazine page 9, Nov/Dec. 2007]

  13. I dunno, Ms. Fleming. I never have known what to make of Dylan, he’s constantly changing and his lyrics never give away his core political beliefs, either. He admits he’s not introspective or consistent or refined, musically or lyrically. Having been a professional musician for a large part of my life, his body language says more than anything. He drives musicians he works with crazy….. unpredictable, inconsistent and a “my way or the highway” kind of conceit, too. That’s the way this video looked to me, as well.

As for Christians, they’re an inconsistent lot, too…. but they’re not the ones doing everything they can to implement a solution to Global Warming called Nuclear Winter. And it ain’t the Muslims, either.

    • Interesting point you make and it brings me back to this 2005 conversation I had with Mordechai Vanunu-Israel’s Nuclear Whistle blower which I told in my first book, “KEEP HOPE ALIVE.”

I asked Vanunu if he had ever heard of “The Left Behind” series of fiction-he hadn’t-so I explained:

“What got left behind was the gospel of peace and love. These books are bad theology and poor literature. Did you know that in America there are Christians who actually want Armageddon? They believe they will escape the nuclear holocaust because they are now the new chosen ones. They think they will be raptured; they think they will be lifted out of the world. They believe a theology of escapism and they ignore that Christ promised that ‘The peacemakers shall be called the children of God’ and that Jesus is the Prince of Peace.”

Vanunu replied, “The time has come for the United States to see the truth of Zionism. It began as a secular nationalist movement, not a religious one. Then some Christians believed that when Israel became a nation, it was the beginning of the second coming. They are deluded if they believe peace will come through atomic weapons. Atomic weapons are holocaust weapons. Christians should be the first people against them. The Christians in America should be helping the Christians here. America needs to wake up to this fallacy that Jesus will come back by nuclear war. America needs to wake up to the fact that the Palestinian Christians here have no human rights. Aren’t Christians supposed to be concerned about other Christians? Aren’t Christians supposed to be concerned about all the poor and oppressed?”

I replied, “It is non-negotiable: all of that stuff Jesus said about doing for the least and the oppressed. It is non-negotiable for Christians; we must forgive our enemies, and we must love those who hate us. Whatever we do or do not do, we do it unto God. Every time I went through a checkpoint, saw the wall, or heard a story of oppression, I wondered how God can stand this situation. I can’t.”

Vanunu said, “My human rights have been denied me because I am a Christian. When I was on trial, I was treated just like a Palestinian: no human rights at all, and cruel and unusual punishment, all because I told the truth. The government spread slander about me, that I was a homosexual, that I hated Jews, that I wanted fame and money. What I did was sacrifice my life for the truth. In prison, I really began to feel like Jesus and Paul. When Jesus threw the money changers out of the temple, it was like me in Dimona, exposing the Israelis’ dirty secrets. I felt like Paul, being thrown in prison for speaking the truth.

“The only real way to worship is in loving one’s enemies. It was not easy to love my tormentors; it was only because I felt so much like Jesus crucified on the cross, and as if I was crucified in prison, that I could do it. It was not ever easy. I have forgiven but not forgotten anything, and I never will. In Israel, a life sentence is twenty-five years. Even murderers go free after seventeen. They imposed the same restrictions on me that Palestinians receive: no human rights at all; no phone; no visitors, except family, and only through an iron grill; no vacation; no holidays; and no gifts. Even murderers get out for vacations! I was locked up for eighteen years and still cannot go on vacation; I cannot leave, and that is all I am asking for, just to leave here. For eighteen years in prison, they even attempted to control my thoughts on paper. I would write exactly what I wanted and they would censor words like kidnapped and atomic bomb. They would show me how they chopped up my letters, but I continued to write exactly what I wanted. They held my body, but never my spirit or mind.”

Vanunu suffered another crisis of faith in 2009 and “fired” God.

Israel continues to deny Vanunu the right to leave the state and I wonder if Bob Dylan has even heard of Mordechai Vanunu.

      • Atomic weapons are nature’s device to protect the planet, and we are the ‘chosen people’ to have delivered them, and it would seem just in the nick of time, as we’re facing an onslaught from above or horrific proportions and soon. (Please Google ‘Apophis’)The fact that we had to develop them by international conflict is beside the point, as are we, and as is our existence, if we don’t get cracking and learn to use their remarkable potential to rid the planet of aggressive, mindless balls of fire and ice subservient to the laws that govern every moving body but ours, that could transform our home to a lifeless desert. We will redeem ourselves in the process. Remember? “Live everlasting, Amen?” We’ve been sucking up to a Universe that while it seems to have spawned us (though life contradicts the laws of physics at every turn and is awfully pretty to boot, not logical at all..) seems determined to destroy us, which doesn’t make a lot of sense, but then again, sense suggest sensory capacities, which only exist in life forms, not in errant interlopers from the asteroid belt and elsewhere. We are remarkable wonderful beings that evolved without knowing how, and should at least keep a smidgen of respect for a plan that while it includes us as its main protagonists, and holds us responsible for the survival of all the plants and animals here, doesn’t suggest that we count much, if we don’t play by the Rules and do our job. Of course, it would help if more of us knew what that was: We are the Saviors; and all of our nasty doings over the last several centuries will make sense when we realize that while we were destroying one another en mass, we were refining our capacity to save everything on Earth. Irony.

    • Dylan is a musician. Music like all other categories is a venue. Only a few percent of those active in it create “art”, and Dylan is not among that few percent. You just have to like it, not care about it, or dislike it. And all of them are just fine. “Art” MUST create a “sense of beauty” in the audience (very different from liking or disliking). I doubt if Dylan has even the intention to do that, aside from having or not having the capability for it. So we come down to the fact that he is just an entertainer. His erratic vacillation in lyrics, substandard musicality and singing methodology are all part of the entertainment where he can care less as long as he has enough followers to make a good living out of it. Eileen’s good heart efforts to pry some thing positive out of this is to her credit, but singing under the ‘all seeing eye’ in Israel is a pig that with or without some pink lipstick will still be a pig.

  14. Mere mortals have never been able to categorize Dylan, never will. Take him or leave him.

  15. The way I read this is Dylan saying that in spite of some altruistic, abstract “everybody’s equal” talk, he’s on THEIR side, not ours. His lyrics have always read like a Haaretz editorial; just abstract enough to mean whatever the reader wants them to mean, without ever really getting to THE POINT. The times, they haven’t really changed much.

    • Ahhhh, music is subjective and what ever one feels/thinks/receives from it, most certainly is a reflection of their heart/mind/spirit;

Indeed the times haven’t changed much in 2,000 years as many who claim to be Christian still have not received this message from JC:

The Beatitudes spun for the 21st Century by eileen fleming

      About 2,000 years ago, when Christ was about 33, he hiked up a hill and sat down under an olive tree and began to teach the people;

“Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the Kingdom of heaven.”

In other words: it is those who know their own spiritual poverty, their own limitations and ‘sins’ honestly and trust God loves them in spite of themselves who already live in the Kingdom of God.

How comforted we will all be, when we see, we haven’t got a clue, as to the depth and breadth of pure love and mercy of The Divine Mystery of The Universe.

God’s name in ancient Aramaic is Abba which means Daddy as much as Mommy and He/She: The Lord has said, “My ways are not your ways. My thoughts are not yours.” -Isaiah 55:8

Christ proclaimed more: “Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.”

The essence of meek is to be patient with ignorance, slow to anger and never hold a grudge. In other words: how comforted you will be when you also know humility; when you know yourself, the good and the bad, for both cut through every human heart.

“Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, they will be filled.”

In other words: how comforted you will be when your greatest desire is to do what “God requires, and he has already told you what that is; BE JUST, BE MERCIFUL and walk humbly with your Lord.”-Micah 6:8

“Blessed are the merciful, they will be shown mercy.”

In other words: how comforted you will all be when you choose to return only kindness to your ‘enemy.’

“For with the measure you measure against another, it will be measured back to you” Christ warns his disciples as he explains the law of karma in Luke 6:27-38.

“Blessed are the pure in heart, for they see God.”

In other words: how comforted you will be when you WAKE UP and see God is already within you, within every man, every woman and every child. The Supreme Being is everywhere, the Alpha and Omega, beginning and end. Beyond The Universe -and yet so small; within the heart of every atom.

“Blessed are The Peacemakers: THEY shall be called the children of God.”

And what a wonderful world it would be when we all seek peace by pursuing justice; for there can be none without the other.

“Blessed are those who are persecuted because they do what God requires, theirs is The Kingdom of Heaven.”

And one fine day the lion will lie down with The Lamb and man will make war no more; and create the Kingdom of God on planet earth, which is that Compassion and Truth seeking Justice will bring PEACE!

PS: The only ‘sin’ is selfishness.

  16. To the author:
You’re…not really being serious here, are you? You’re kind of joking a bit?

    • I am VERY serious, but if I can’t laugh it’s NOT my REVOLUTION!

    • Ben, Maybe you need to read the article SLOOOOOWLY this time.

      • “All truth passes through three stages: First, it is ridiculed, second it is violently opposed, and third, it is accepted as self-evident.”-Arthur Schopenhauer

“The walls of pride are high and wide-YOU can’t see over to the other side”-Bob Dylan

“Writing is hard because you are giving yourself away, but if you love; you want to give yourself. You write as you are impelled to write, about man and his problems, his relation to God and his fellows…The sustained effort of writing, of putting [words down while] there are human beings [with] sickness, hunger, sorrow. I feel that I have done nothing well, but I did something.”-Dorothy Day

And just WHAT have YOU written besides criticism Ben?

  17. Anonymous Smith

One of THE worst singers of all time! His voice has the power to confuse and nauseate if you’re not ready for it.

Woot…one for our side!! This is payback for Tiny Tim…Take that, Israel!!

    • “His voice and lyrics haven’t always been easy on the ear, but throughout his career Bob Dylan has never aimed to please. He’s disturbed the peace and discomforted the powerful. President Kennedy could easily have been talking about Bob Dylan when he said that, “if sometimes great artists have been most critical of our society, it is because their concern for justice makes them aware that our nation falls short of its highest potential.”-President Bill Clinton, 1997

      • bobby shekels plagiarized from the weak and dead.

he say: “give me my shekels. i can be a piss ant because i am recognized, by other jews, as an artiste.”

  18. Not drawing any conclusions, but isn’t that an all seeing eye behind him, with a Phoenix crown on top?

  19. It was a great show, we Loved him and he loves us.

    Too bad for you…………….

    • It’s despicable that you would be proud of Israel’s vile actions and try to rub something like that in. Shows the lack of morality amongst Israelis. You are all selfish.

    • “If I can’t dance it’s NOT my REVOLUTION” -Emma Goldman

Too bad for you that you missed the point!

    • tzhar………Of course Bob loves you, that’s why he brought they truth to you in Change My Way Of Thinking and in Blowing In The Wind!!..Bob wants you to end hatred and wars, turn to God and pursue the ways of peace and harmony!!!

    • Izhar, you are disgusting.

  20. I confess I know NOTHING about the “Satanic Illuminaty” so the backdrop also went over my head if that is what it refers to.

  21. Maybe I can blow your mind when I tell you this:

In 2003, I read an article in Presence Magazine written by a pastor of a church in Berkeley. I no longer remember what the article was about, but he inspired me to email him a few of my theological questions.

    He replied something like this;

I once gave a sermon that began with the story of Rabbi Hillel, who lived 100 years before Jesus walked the earth.

Rabbi Hillel understood the Hebrew understanding of Hokema; Holy Wisdom; The Feminine Divinity, was the same as the Greek understanding of The Logos: The Word.

It was Saints John and Paul that understood The Logos: The Word was Jesus.

So with a little imagination you can imagine that before Jesus walked the earth a man, he was already a she; The Word, Holy Wisdom, Hokema, the feminine divinity.

He gave that sermon to a mainline conservative congregation. It didn’t go over well, but it read like GREAT news to me!

Ever since the days of Eve until the days of JC, the feminine was not equally valued.

Jesus is the first known man to blow apart the societal and religious taboos of speaking with females as fully equal.

Just one more example of how the male disciples would not, could not follow Jesus THAT closely!

And “Our problems stem from our acceptance of this filthy, rotten system”-Dorothy Day

  22. Dear TJ Bronco,

I agree “we are all here for a reason-to LEARN” but I add we are here to LEARN to become as god:

“I said, you are gods: you are all children of the Most High God.”-Psalm 82:6

And it is religiosity/fundamentalism that is holding up that evolution:

  23. Emma Goldman was part of the ‘all seeing eye’ cult too.

  24. I am not convinced that the background graphic has anything to do with any cult.

When I saw it I thought it was a symbol for the Inner Eye-meaning higher consciousness; but as with music- all art is subjective.

  25. Dear TJ Bronco,

Yes i have heard some of that spin before, but it just did not resonate with me and maybe that is because i am not into conspiracy theories although I most certainly believe all things are connected.

In solidarity with “Thank you. Have a great Night Learn and speak Sincerely”

  26. First off, i am only 1/4 Polish Jew and secondly i have no power to “convince the other Jews to take a chill pill and allow Palestine it’s own freedom” but God knows how hard i have tried to Wake Up USA Christians to the misery that they are culpable in in the so called holy land ever since I went online in 2005 @
    http://wearewideawake.org/

Please forgive me for “kneejerked ‘Conspiracy theory'” response as your comment read too much like what others have tried to convince me of and all they accomplished was turning me off.

As nobody but Bob, the artist who created the graphic and those in the ‘know’ REALLY know what is meant by the Eye and Crown- and as music and art are subjective we all take from it what is in our hearts-so for me the Eye in the graphic remains a symbol of The INNER EYE-higher Consciousness and that is why it wears a Crown- as it is our CONSCIENCE that is where we hear God/the Supreme Mystery of The Universe.

  27. (I’d substitute an “o” for that “a” and say BONKERS!! But…we all gotta live here and while we’re at it might as well do His will and forgive! Still–bonkers! And TJ, what does what you said have anything at all to do with what Molly said? She’s talking about using nuclear weapons! And you speak of BANKERS? (Caps yours,) You guys should get together. Possibly in group therapy. Seriously–it might help you see the world and that there’s more to it than conspiracy theories. Sure, some are true. But not all! Do you believe Elvis is still alive? How about Jim Morrison, just to keep in line with the musical side of this thread. Wow….reading your posts….just..wow.
