Arthur Balfour’s infamous “Declaration” was written 94 years ago this week. Palestinians, of course, don’t need reminding.

And to mark the anniversary Israel ordered its warships to carry out yet another act of piracy on peaceful, innocent shipping carrying humanitarian relief to the imprisoned people of Gaza.

The country called Palestine was “liberated” from Turkish Ottoman rule after the Allied Powers, in correspondence between Sir Henry McMahon and Sharif Hussein ibn Ali of Mecca in 1915, promised Arab leaders independence in return for their help in defeating Germany’s ally.

However a Jewish political movement, Zionism, was finding favour among the ruling élite in London, and the British Government was persuaded by the Zionists’ chief spokesman, Chaim Weizmann, to surrender Palestine for their new Jewish homeland. Hardly a thought, it seems, was given to the earlier pledge to the Arabs, who had occupied and owned the land for 1,500 years – longer than the ancient Jews ever did.

The Zionists, inflated by the notion that an ancient Biblical prophecy gave them the title deeds, planned to push the Arabs out by bringing in millions of Eastern European Jews. They had already set up farm communities and founded a new city, Tel Aviv, but by 1914 Jews numbered only 85,000 to the Arabs’ 615,000.

The Balfour Declaration of 1917 – actually a letter from the British foreign secretary, Arthur Balfour, to the most senior Jew in England, Lord Rothschild – pledged assistance for the Zionist cause ignoring the consequences to the native majority.

Calling itself a “declaration of sympathy with Jewish Zionist aspirations”, it said:

“His Majesty’s Government view with favour the establishment in Palestine of a national home for the Jewish people, and will use their best endeavours to facilitate the achievement of this object, it being clearly understood that nothing shall be done which may prejudice the civil and religious rights of existing and non-Jewish communities….”

Balfour, an ardent Zionist, wrote: “In Palestine we do not propose even to go through the form of consulting the wishes of the present inhabitants of the country. The four powers are committed to Zionism and Zionism, be it right or wrong, good or bad, is rooted in age-long tradition, in present needs, in future hopes, of far profounder import than the desires and prejudices of the 700,000 Arabs who now occupy that land.”

He later wrote the introduction to a book published in 1919, ‘History of Zionism 1600-1919’ by Nahum Sokolow, in which he said: “Conversations I held with Mr Weizmann in January, 1906, convinced me that history could not thus be ignored, and that if a home was to be found for the Jewish people, homeless now for nearly nineteen hundred years, it was vain to seek it anywhere but in Palestine.”

Some opposed the idea. Lord Sydenham warned: “The harm done by dumping down an alien population upon an Arab country may never be remedied. What we have done, by concessions not to the Jewish people but to a Zionist extreme section, is to start a running sore in the East, and no-one can tell how far that sore will extend.”

The American King-Crane Commission of 1919 thought it a gross violation of principle. “No British officers consulted by the Commissioners believed that the Zionist programme could be carried out except by force of arms. That, of itself, is evidence of a strong sense of the injustice of the Zionist programme.”

And the scheme was heading for serious trouble for another reason. A secret deal, called the Sykes-Picot Agreement, had been concluded in 1916 between France and Britain, in consultation with Russia, to re-draw the map of the Middle Eastern territories won from Turkey. Britain was to take Jordan, Iraq and Haifa. The area now referred to as Palestine was declared an international zone.

The Sykes-Picot Agreement, the Balfour Declaration and the promises made earlier in the McMahon-Hussein letters all cut across each other. Was it really a case of the left hand not knowing what the right was doing in the confusion of war?

After the Russian Revolution of 1917 Lenin released a copy of the confidential Sykes-Picot Agreement into the public domain, sowing seeds of distrust among the Arabs. The unfolding story, from the start, had all the makings of a major tragedy. Subsequent crimes – on both sides – flow from this triple-cross.

Apartheid and occupation: “in practice there is little difference”

At Cambridge Arthur Balfour read moral sciences, but much good it did the poor Palestinian Arabs he helped dispossess.

Described as born lazy, aloof and having an attitude problem, he was convinced of his personal superiority and wished to keep the vulgar world at arm’s length. Balfour famously said: “Nothing matters very much, and few things matter at all.”

He was said to be a man who would make almost any sacrifice to remain in office. In this case, he sacrificed the Arab homeland. In 1922 the League of Nations put Palestine under British mandate, which incorporated the principles of the Balfour’s Declaration.

Professor John Dugard, the South African international lawyer who was United Nations special rapporteur for human rights in Palestine for seven years.

How have things turned out?

John Dugard, a professor of international law and former Special Rapporteur to the UN Human Rights Council on the situation in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, explains on Aljazeera the differences and similarities between apartheid South Africa and apartheid Israel.

Of course, the regimes of apartheid and occupation are different. Apartheid South Africa was a state that practiced discrimination against its own people. It sought to fragment the country into white South Africa and black Bantustans. Its security laws were used to brutally suppress opposition to apartheid. Israel, on the other hand, is an occupying power that controls a foreign territory and its people under a regime recognized by international law – belligerent occupation.

However, in practice, there is little difference. Both regimes were/are characterized by discrimination, repression and territorial fragmentation (that is, land seizures).

Israel discriminates against Palestinians in the West Bank and East Jerusalem in favor of half a million Israeli settlers. Its restrictions on freedom of movement, manifested in countless humiliating checkpoints, resemble the “pass laws” of apartheid. Its destruction of Palestinian homes resembles the destruction of homes belonging to blacks under apartheid’s Group Areas Act. The confiscation of Palestinian farms under the pretext of building a security wall brings back similar memories. And so on. Indeed, Israel has gone beyond apartheid South Africa in constructing separate (and unequal) roads for Palestinians and settlers.

Apartheid’s security police practiced torture on a large scale. So do the Israeli security forces. There were many political prisoners on Robbin Island but there are more Palestinian political prisoners in Israeli jails.

Apartheid South Africa seized the land of blacks for whites. Israel has seized the land of Palestinians for half a million settlers and for the purposes of constructing a security wall within Palestinian territory – both of which are contrary to international law.

The “running sore” Sydenham warned of has been festering for 94 years, crippling the Middle East and turning the Holy Land into an abomination. Balfour and his clueless pals in the corridors of British power clearly had no idea of the true purpose and base methods of Zionism.

    The so called “Balfour declaration” is not a declaration at all. It is a short letter written by Athur James Balfour, then GB’s foreign minister, to Lord Rothschild, finishing with these words: “I should be grateful if you would bring this declaration to the knowledge of the Zionist Federation”.

    In it there is no reference to previous correspondence or formal query, neither by Rothschild nor by the Zionist Federation, to Balfour about the matter…

    What does this mean, is that hush hush negotiations and ongoing secret arrangements had been made, between the Zios and members of “Her Majesty’s Govt”, prior to the issuing of such a letter and that at least 2 parties, Lord Rothschild and the Zionist Federation, have been involved in the dealing and wheeling.

    The same modus operandi is still in effect nowadays. The Zion Talmudic Mafia works subterraneanly, make deals, cajoles, bribes and blackmail in grand style, to make politicians do its bidding… Nothing has changed since 1917, except the sophistication of the means and methods to infiltrate, stage events and twist arms, buy public servants, be it civilians or from the military and, hijack totally western-eastern and Arab governments…

    The fundamental problem is the Jewish ideology. Today’s Rabbis are simply the continuation of the Pharisees of old.

    At the time of Jesus Christ, many sects of Judaism existed. Jesus was dead-set against the Pharisees and their adherence to the Talmud, calling them the Synagogue of Satan.

    After the burning of Jerusalem, only the Pharisees survived. Their belief, as enshrined in the Babylonian Talmud, insists that Jews are the “Chosen People” of God, and that all other peoples, Goyim, meaning “Cattle”, are on this earth to serve the Jew, and those who do not must be eliminated. God gave the Earth and all its wealth to the Jews, so all we own belongs to them.

    Jews cannot be compelled to say the truth, even in a court of law. Every year in a synagogue, the Jew says a prayer to God that gives him permission to lie to all Goyim. With this ideology, the Jew has lied, cheated, stolen, and enslaved all Goyim. More than 100 European countries expelled Jews because of their predations, especially on the naive peasants. The same scenario described in the bible, where Joseph and his Jews exploited the Egyptians peasents, has been reproduced over and over again everywhere they’ve inhabited.

    Every White man alive today has ancestors that were sold as slaves by Jews. Even when the Roman legions were decimating Europe, after military engagements, the Jews and his gladiators would capture the survivors for the slave trade.

    The Black slave trade was practically a Jewish monopoly, yet Hollywood presents us films, produced by Jews, that show the Slavers as Christians.

    Today the White slave trade continues through Israel. The victims are innocent Eastern European. The greatest Mafia in the World is the Jewish Mafia. The so-called Russian Mafia is also actually Jewish. They have practiced war on us all even in peacetime, as they are permanently at war with all Goyim.

    How do you think they acquire all our companies? Do you really think they refrain from using their Mafia, which dominates all level of government and industry? Do you still believe that holocaust myth? Do you know that the Jewish Bolsheviks murdered more than 100 million Christians?

    Do you know that two years into WW1, Germany, which had all but won the war, offered a deal whereby all combatants could cease aggression and return to their pre-war borders thus ending the war, and the Zionists, aided by the Rothschilds, proposed a contrary deal to the British government whereby they, the Jews, would bring America into the war and pursue the war until Germany’s demise if Britain would give them Palestine? This deal, which Britain acceded to, resulted in millions of needless deaths, including many of my family.

      Bingo. There’s no way the Torah’s version of “G_d” or “Yahweh’s” favorite “people” could have a happy ending. Jewish depravity and debauchery is an explicit function of Jewish racism and an off-the-charts superiority complex. It really ain’t so complicated.

      Everywhere you look, there is evil. And if you roll away the stone a little further, you find a snickering “Jew”. (or twelve.)

    to understand all this you must also read what benjamin freedman said about this and how it came to be also england and france declaerd war on germany not the other way around america was in the ww2 in the atlantic before hitler declaired war on the us the poles killed germans after ww1 at the borders they started ww2 hitler only stopped them the same with stalin who wanted to overrun europe hitler fougt in selfdefence to safe europe from communism study your history better it is all there on the internet

    The peace proposal of the Central Powers from December 12, 1916 was refused. Rumour has it that the Zionists had promised to bring bring US into the First World if they get Palestine as payment.
    But of course, only rumours. In 1917 the incident with Lusitania (which was 1915) was dusted off and US entered the war on side of the Zionists.

    It must also be remembered that the vast majority of Palestinians are as indigenous as can be. Very few, if any at all, were exiled under the Romans. Nobody went anywhere, most of the Israelites simply converted to Islam or Christianity and intermarried with the locals and various invaders of the day. The modern day Jew is not a bloodline Israelite and has NO connection to the Holy land whatsoever. They have made themselves up.

    Thanks for the article but the British did renege on that Balfour Declaration with the White Paper of 1939.

    Excerpt from the White Paper of 1939: “The objective of His Majesty’s Government is the establishment within 10 years of an independent Palestine State in such treaty relations with the United Kingdom as will provide satisfactorily for the commercial and strategic requirements of both countries in the future. [..] The independent State should be one in which Arabs & Jews share government in such a way as to ensure that the essential interests of each community are safeguarded.”

    We have to realise that Zionism is a frame of mind,not a religion or race.Nazism and Communism is a similar mind frame.All humans of differing races and colours suffer from the same weaknesses, spurred on by fear of their own mortality.

    Most of the Jews are victims themselves just like most of the Germans under Hitler.

      Meet some jews, get to know them well, then get back to us. Many are raised very differently, and they look upon you very differently, no ‘State’ tells them to do this. You can very definately say that it is religion at play there.
