The Case Against Attacking Iran
by Allen L Roland
Almost 4 years after President Obama took office, his campaign strategy of Change and Hope we can believe in has shifted to exploiting Fear. He now joins the leading Republican presidential candidates, with the exception of Ron Paul, in demonizing Iran to the extent that war is almost inevitable ~ a war that would benefit only Israel and the military/industrial complex at the further expense of the American tax payer
There are no real grounds for war with Iran.
If you’re going to argue for war, you had better at least know what you’re talking about, especially if you’re going to be debating George Galloway. Here is Galloway responding on air to a questioner who uses all the talking points regarding the premise that Iran must be neutralized for the good of the world. ( very similar points that were made regarding invading Iraq ~ which Galloway points out )
George Galloway vs. the warmonger parrot who is very similar to Republican right wing zealots including Presidential contender Rick Santorum who said on NBC television’s “Meet the Press” that he would tell Iranian leaders that either they open up those facilities, begin to dismantle them and make them available to inspectors ~ “ or the U.S. would attack them “. 7 Minute must see Video:
Let’s talk about these recent U.S. sanctions against Iran ~ measures that were obviously supported by war hawk advisors in the White House as well as the powerful Zionist lobby ~ which the Bush/Obama administration continues to cater to. Dr. Ismail Salami, Veterans Today, comments on the U.S. Engineered sanctions and their effect and ultimate meaning ~ “The war of words which ensued between Iranian army commanders and the American military men testifies to the fact that the wall of fear has collapsed before the eyes of the Iranians and that the U.S. is no longer seen as an indomitable enemy.”
What is the United States and Israel really afraid of, since Iran’s nuclear capability has yet to be proven?
The answer is obvious and it’s the fact that Iran has upgraded its medium range conventionally-armed missiles with GPS technology, making its missiles much more accurate. This means Iran can now target Israel’s own nuclear, bio and chemical weapons stockpiles, located inside Israel, as well as the Dimona nuclear reactor.
As Mark H Gaffney correctly writes ~ “I believe the US will exploit the situation to attack Iran’s nuclear facilities. But, even more importantly, the US will target Iran’s conventional missiles. Indeed, I believe this is the real reason for US sanctions in the first place, and for the buildup of tensions in recent days. Despite public perceptions, and all the rhetoric about nukes, the present crisis has nothing to do with Iran’s alleged nuclear weapons program.
In my opinion, that is just a cover story. I believe the present crisis has been manufactured to create the pretext for a US air campaign to take out Iran’s conventional missile sites. The US will also target Iran’s nuclear facilities, but the primary target will be Iran’s conventional missiles. The US will be doing Israel’s bidding. The Zionist tail will be wagging the servile US dog…
Obviously, you can’t generate public support for such a bombing campaign, on Israel’s behalf. Hence the cover story about nukes and the alleged Iranian threat to wipe Israel off the map, all of which is untrue but very effective propaganda nonetheless.”
Let’s get something straight about that threat ~ the supposed quote of newly elected Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to “Wipe Israel off the Map “ was fabricated by the U.S. media in order to justify an all-out war on Iran ~ a lie that is still being used by Obama and leading Republicans in order to garner support from Israel as well as the Military/Industrial complex.
Here are the facts, according to Arash Norouxi ~ “ In his speech, Ahmadinejad declares that Zionism is the West’s apparatus of political oppression against Muslims. He says the “Zionist regime” was imposed on the Islamic world as a strategic bridgehead to ensure domination of the region and its assets. Palestine, he insists, is the frontline of the Islamic world’s struggle with American hegemony, and its fate will have repercussions for the entire Middle East…Ahmadinejad acknowledges that the removal of America’s powerful grip on the region via the Zionists may seem unimaginable to some, but reminds the audience that, as Khomeini predicted, other seemingly invincible empires have disappeared and now only exist in history books. He then proceeds to list three such regimes that have collapsed, crumbled or vanished, all within the last 30 years:
- The Shah of Iran- the U.S. installed monarch
- The Soviet Union
- Iran’s former arch-enemy, Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein
In the first and third examples, Ahmadinejad prefaces their mention with Khomeini’s own words foretelling that individual regime’s demise. He concludes by referring to Khomeini’s unfulfilled wish: “The Imam said this regime occupying Jerusalem must vanish from the page of time. This statement is very wise”. This is the passage that has been isolated, twisted and distorted so famously. By measure of comparison, Ahmadinejad would seem to be calling for regime change, not war.”
This is blatant Manipulation through fear as Arash Norouxi definitively points out in Global Research ~ “ What has just been demonstrated is irrefutable proof of media manipulation and propaganda in action. The AP deliberately alters an IRNA quote to sound more threatening. The Israeli media not only repeats the fake quote but also steals the original authors’ words. The unsuspecting public reads this, forms an opinion and supports unnecessary wars of aggression, presented as self defense, based on the misinformation. This scenario mirrors the kind of false claims that led to the illegal U.S. invasion of Iraq, a war now widely viewed as a catastrophic mistake. And yet the Bush administration and the compliant corporate media continued to marinate in propaganda and speculation about attacking Iraq’s much larger and more formidable neighbor, Iran. Most of this rests on the unproven assumption that Iran is building nuclear weapons, and the lie that Iran has vowed to physically destroy Israel. Given its scope and potentially disastrous outcome, all this amounts to what is arguably the rumor of the century.” Read full article ~
Manipulation through fear ~ the ongoing mantra of the Bush/Obama administrations and most certainly the fuel that drives the Military/Industrial complex in its quest for unending war for perpetual financial profits.
The late George Carlin nailed it when he said War to many Americans and most certainly our political leaders is a macho game and they’re still playing it ~ with the exception of Ron Paul. See 7 minute video but beware ~ this is George Carlin at his x rated best.
As Paul Craig Roberts writes in his Outlook for The New Year ~ “The concepts that the Bush/Obama regimes have institutionalized are totally foreign to the Anglo-American concepts of law and liberty. In one decade the US has been transformed from a free society into a police state. The American population, to the extent it is aware of what has occurred, has simply accepted the revolution from the top. Ron Paul is the only American seeking the presidency who opposes the tyranny that has been institutionalized, and he is not leading in the polls. This tells us all we need to know about the value Americans place on liberty. Americans seem to welcome the era of tyranny into which they are now entering.” Read full article :
80 years ago, Germany, steeped in a depression, also seemed to welcome the era of tyranny they entered into when they gave up their liberties and rights and allowed themselves to be controlled by institutionalized fear ~ and in the process became a police state while ravaging the world with their imperialistic agenda.
“As nightfall does not come all at once ~ neither does oppression. In both instances there is a twilight when everything remains seemingly unchanged. And it is in such twilight that we all must be most aware of change in the air – however slight – lest we become unwitting victims of the darkness.” Supreme Court Justice William O. Douglas
The twilight in America is rapidly fading into darkness and is fully revealed in the fear mongering of Iran by the Bush/Obama administration’s continuing effort to exploit fear for our own imperialistic purposes. In summary, there is no case for attacking Iran and the American people must make this case now ~ before it’s too late.

Great stuff, Allen, and thanks. Wouldn’t it be great if there was a cable news show with a lineup like George Galloway, Jesse Ventura, and George Carlin skewering the lying bastards every night. After the Carlin video there’s a link to his take on Rush Limbaugh that’s good for a laugh.
George Carlin is dead but the rest of the people you mentioned would make a great line up.
What makes me real dizzy, are all these complete contradictory articles, which make no sense, if you put all those intel and opinions together. Gordon Duff renewed his statements from the Okt 2011 article at the beginning of 2012, the last two articles about the situation in Iran (one from VT directly) don’t mention anything about this, but refer to the calculation of the US/Israel side to destroy the updated Iranian conventional missile capacities, because they are now for the first time directly threaten Israel.
Both main argument lines make sensen, but they are directly contradictory to one another. Could you please comment on that, so that the readers get a clearer perspective about, what is really coming up to us? Otherwise VT leaves everybody here totally confused.

Here’s an excellent analysis from Real News with Gareth Porter suggesting that Obama cannot keep the US out of a war if Israel strikes Iran and also the internal bickering going on within Israel itself regarding this recent escalation.

If you do some research you will find out that when the first Gulf war took place in 1991, Israel was told TO NOT GET INVOLVED because if it started firing on Iraq other players in the region could enter the war on the side of Iraq. So history tells us that in a large Middle Eastern war Israel will not allowed to get involved.
Israel cannot start a war with Iran WITHOUT THE US giving it permission to do so. Israel has many US made weapons – expensive high tech ones which the US does not want falling into the hands of any enemy. Israel cannot take Iran on by itself, the US would have to get involved and therefore Israel would not be able to start a war with Iran without the US say so.
The US is a long term strategic planner, it would know it war plans for the next decade.
Mr. Roland,
Thanks for the link to the interview first. I read it and must say, that this is the kind of talk, which one can hear every day over here in Europe (I’m from Germany). There is nothing new, nothing very revealing and no conclusion. No one there knows anything, that really gives any serious clue about the intentions of Israel and the US.
On Dec.16 last year there was a secret meating between Obama and Israel’s defence secretary Ehud Barak outside Washington and at this time huge american ships and aircraft carrier together with thousands of american troops are heading towards Israel (the troops are to be deployed to that area, not only temporarily), officially for a big joint mannover.
So, when I may give my little personal perspective on this whole pre-war scenario, I would suggest that the US military is there to back Israel against any retaliation threats of Iran and Hezbollah, give logistical as well a direct military support. All the money deals (higher oil prices because of crisis/war) are meaningsless for the Iran in the case of a real war, they only play into the hands of Israel (future market investments) and the US.
And if we can trust Gordon Duff’s intel as well as yours, we could have a situation where Iran is doublecrossed (in the case it really dealt with Israel before), because allthough we have sharp uprisings in oil prices worldwide (which benefits the oil firms) they are attacked anyway. Israel and the US then have the benefit of destoing any advanced Iranian defence capability. Iran may even get the long wanted regime change quite soon after beeing destroyed and the Hizbollah is destroyed as well, with the help of US military forces (missiles first and then fround troups).
This is my actual, rather pessimistic perspective of the upcoming events.
D. Reimers
Pessimistic or not, upcoming events are raidly coming to a head and let’s hope
that sanity prevails over insanity.
Given that Obama’s foreign policy has gotten increasingly belligerent and increasingly indistinguishable from that of his predecesor we need to realize finally that without real change this type of “presidency” ( really just the oligarchy’s P.R. guy ) will be what we get every four years..More lies about 9-11..lies about Israel’s enemies..lies about the economy…lies about our privately-owned central bank.
Tons on money is spent on campaigns. Clearly, anti-war candidates have NO hope of winning the election unless they suck up to Israel,or so it seems. During WW2, multitudes of American film and stage performers came out and supported the war effort. Why do we have what appears to be no ability to strike a chord with war haters that would help push candidates toward successful campaigns against warhawks like Bush and Obama? Or, is it career threatening to come out against the Zionist owners of said industries? It appears to me that Carlin is right. We are merely effete wimps who don’t get it when compared to the Zionazi stooges who prefer nothing more than licking the Likud. Let’s face it, we have a problem that is generations deep and Zionism is our enemy number 1. IT’s the most negative force in the world. It has rotted our souls, our governments, and it has the brass cojones to want more and more. Zionism is a gluttonous wanting of all the gold in the world. It is the world’s Midas, it cannot get enough gold. In the meantime, we are getting nowhere toward discovering the stultified weaknesses we possess in overcoming this monster called Zionism. Obama has many skeletons in his closet and I’d wager he is absolutely and totally compromised to the point where he is a mere puppet to his controllers. For the Zionists, Obama has been the perfect avenger. What stands out in our so far losing struggle is that too many Americans are braindead and fixated on Kardashian’s glutes. A nation of bored, distracted, idiots who would still vote for the Destroyer. Hello, Stockholm syndrome.
” Hello, Stockholm syndrome.” ~ the perfect definition of the Obama Kool-aid. Good rant, Bahmi
“What stands out in our so far losing struggle is that too many Americans are braindead and fixated on Kardashian’s glutes.”
Sad to say that it is not only Americans, the same thing is true in Europe, and a “change” in the US is as important to Europe as it is for the US….
The only change in sight is Ron Paul !
Ah, yes ~ Ron Paul should do very well on Tuesday in New Hampshire despite the conscious attempt by the Republican establishment and lame stream press to minimize his candidacy.
The case against attacking Iran – a war with Iran would cost the US about 3 trillion US dollars (which it would have to borrow from China, and Saudi Arabia ) 10 000 bodybags and about 50,000 injured American military personel. Iran’s population is three times larger than Iraq’s. The war would also further damage America’s image overseas – although I doubt it is possible to get lower than it is now. Also the EU does not have the money for more wars so the US would just have to fight a war with Israel as its sidekick. My money would be on Iran taking Israel out first!
We will soon have at least three carrier attack groups on station in the Persian Gulf with 9000 American troops in Israel on War maneuvers ~ it won’t take much to set off that time bomb !
A war with Iran would put the US’s military in the Middle East for another decade.
The US is already considered an empire in decline in the Asia Pacific, the fastest growing region in the world and another missing decade will mean that the US will be a forgotten entity. China will be happy.
Below is a quote from Ron Paul – I like the way he admits that currently Israel must get approval from the US if it wants to start a war.
http://www.eurasiareview.com/13012012-ron-paul-on-israel-oped/
My philosophy, like that of the Founding Fathers, is that we should use our resources to protect our nation. Our policies of intervention and manipulation in Iran and Iraq and other places have led to unintended consequences and have not made Israel safer. Many in the Jewish community share my opinion, and it’s vital for both nations that we continue to have an open dialogue.
Phil had referred this interview earlier when Paul says, regarding Iran:
I believe I’m the only candidate who would allow Israel to take immediate action to defend herself without having to get our approval. Israel should be free to take whatever steps she deems necessary to protect her national security and sovereignty.
