Wake Up, America! The GOP Intends to Abolish the Middle Class

If there’s anyone left in America who, at this point, can’t see that the Republican Party is the enemy of the American middle class, they have to be either feeble minded, or harboring a hidden interest which precludes them from wanting to see. All one has to do to get a clear view of this political reality is to open one’s eyes and look at who the GOP is putting forward to assume the highest office in the land.

One is Mitt Romney, a vulture capitalist who became a charter member of the top one percent club by purchasing perfectly sound companies, firing their employees, and then selling the companies off, one piece at a time, for profit. The other is Newt Gingrich, a former Speaker of the House of Representatives who was so self-serving and corrupt that in 1998 he was forced to resign from congress by his own Republican colleagues.

These two gentlemen, and the self-serving activities of others of their ilk, are the two bookends that led directly to the 2008 collapse of the American economy, causing millions of Americans to lose their jobs, their homes, and their life savings. Mitt Romney represents the selfish capitalists who threw America under the bus for their own personal greed, and Newt Gingrich personifies the corrupt former politician who uses his influence in congress to lobby his former colleagues to water down the law, allowing the Romney’s of the world to ply their trade.

Now, these two “gentlemen” are asking America to trust them to repair an economic environment that they both helped to create, and they both have a vested interest in maintaining. And how do they intend to repair the economy? Essentially, Romney says that we should allow those who are in foreclosure to lose their homes, then start anew with a fresh group of suckers. Specifically, he said in an filmed interview with the Las Vegas Review-Journal, “Don’t try to stop the foreclosure process. Let it run its course and hit the bottom.” He then went on to say, “Allow investors to buy homes, put renters in them, fix the homes up and let it turn around and come back up.”

Mr. Romney’s remarks make it abundantly clear that his only concern is with what’s in the best interest of the investor class. He has absolutely no concern for the devastation and turmoil that losing a home would visit upon the lives of a family that’s been turned out into the street – and we’re not just talking about an unfortunate few here. Mitt Romney is talking about casually writing off millions of Americans as collateral damage.

Newt Gingrich is of an identical mindset. Gingrich promises “extraordinarily radical proposals to fundamentally change the culture of poverty in America.” And what are those proposals? During this time of record high unemployment, one proposal that Newt is floating is to fire the father from his union protected job and putting his children to work. He said, “It is tragic what we do in the poorest neighborhoods, entrapping children in, first of all, in child laws, which are truly stupid.” Gingrich went on to say, “Most of these schools ought to get rid of the unionized janitors, have one master janitor and pay local students to take care of the school. The kids would actually do work, they would have cash, they’d have pride in the schools, they’d begin the process of rising.” Yes, Newt, but what would happen to their families?

Again, this Republican frontrunner for president is completely oblivious to the dire straits of the average American family. His solution would make the situation worse. He’s not the least bit concerned with stabilizing the plight of poor and middle-class families. He’s only concerned with destroying organized labor by firing the father and replacing him with the cheaper, and un-unionized, labor of his children. And the irony is,this GOP fixation on returning poor and middle class American families to Great Depression status has become such of a fundamental part of the GOP mindset that average Republicans, who would be devastated by such a policy, are applauding! They’ve been conditioned to hate this nation’s first Black president so passionately that they’ve bought into self-sacrifice: “Obama is un-American – he’s engaged in a socialist plot to save my family.” It is truly unbelievable how easily the human mind can be controlled.

What these average Republicans don’t understand is that they’re being manipulated. The corporate conservatives who run the Republican Party don’t care any more about them than they do black people, gays, undocumented workers, or anyone else. The corporatists are simply manipulating their anger, prejudices, and uninformed minds in order to keep the poor and middle class divided. That way, we’re so busy fighting one another that we fail to recognize that they’re cutting all of our throats.

I suggest that Black people take a look at this as well. The corporatists are depending on angry and reactionary White people inflaming a knee-jerk reaction of anger and hostility among Blacks, which serves the very same purpose, keeping the poor and middle classes divided. That’s why they keep race on the front burner, using inflammatory buzz words and phrases like “the food stamp president,”etc. Corporatists desperately need to keep the race war raging. That way the poor and middle class of both races fail to recognize that we’re currently knee-deep in a class war, and our side is losing badly.

Clear evidence of that can be seen in simply looking at the programs and institutions the GOP is attacking – Medicare, Social security, unemployment insurance, education, organized labor, etc. None of those programs or institutions are race specific. What they all have in common is that they are programs and institutions that serve to elevate the poor and middle class, of every race.

So again, it’s time for America to wake up – and particularly poor and middle class Republicans. Because entrusting this nation and our economy to the GOP would be like entrusting our children to convicted child molesters:

  1. Eric, A great story that makes part of a long list of young men you found themselves volunteered into the military back in those days…an evolution from bored to death Southern rural kids taking the route to escape a life of tedious farm work and boredom on a small farm.

    I did my first Medal of Honor video shoot this summer, Woody Williams (89), the last surviving MoH recipient from Iwo Jima. He was too short at 5′ 6″ when he first tried to sign up but later the Marines lowered the minimum height down from 5’8″. He was so naive he thought he would be sent to the coast somewhere to defend against a Jap attack…did not even know where Japan was really.

    He was the demolitions supply guy who used a flame thrower for his first time on day three to take out 7 bunkers over a four hour fight to break the Japs interlocking fire defenses at the airport. The other flame thrower and demo guys had been killed by noon.

    It was the only day that he ever used a torch. The amazing part of the story being that the Marines were in such a state of shell shock the once they found a crater they would not move. When he ran of our flame juice, 90 seconds per bunker…he had to crawl back under fire to the supply dump to reload and they cross back over the killing ground to get the next one, while everyone else watched.

    I am blessed with 90 minutes of precious footage. Hope to have some highlight clips ups on VT this Spring.

  2. Okay, Dan.

    Maybe I misunderstood your position. but I’m not sure I can agree with you regarding government intervention. When I was a kid I started going to jail when I was 12 years-old, and I started using heroin and dropped out of high school when I was 16. I was on a downward spiral, and continued to go in and out of jail until I was 19 years-old, arrested and convicted for possession of a large amount of heroin, and poised to go to prison.

    At that point the government intervened and gave me the option of going into the Marine Corps instead, and indicated that if I came out with an honorable discharge all charges would be dropped against me and my previous record would be expunged. I agreed, and the Marine Corps agreed to except me, in spite of the fact that I fell far short of their standards.

    Thereafter the Corps took me, broke me, and educated me. In the process, the Corps, and I, found that I had a knack for writing and assigned me to work for the battalion commander, where I did all of his, and the battalion’s communications. The colonel and I became very close, so eventually, one of the worst kept secrets in the battalion was that he was allowing me to write his officers’ fitness reports, which he would generally simply review, or on rare occasions want to discuss. Then he’d simply sign them. On those rare occasions when he’d want an edit a report, it was generally downward. But for the most part, my assessment would prevail, because the colonel had the insight to understand that as an enlisted man, I had a better feel for an officer’s effectiveness as a leader – and I’m sure I don’t have to tell you what a popular guy that made me among the officers. You would have thought I was their superior (“Come on, Eric. No one’s around. Call me Dave.”). The 1st Sgt. used to joke about it. “I saw you with Captain so-in-so. What was he doin’, suckin’ up, or tryin’ to bleed you for intell?”

    That experience gave me an up-close and personal understanding of the axiom that knowledge is power. So when I got discharged I got married and went straight to college and I’ve never looked back.

    So the government took a common criminal off the street and made an investment in him, and that investment has paid tremendous dividends. A generation later here’s what they had to say about my son:

    1. I wholeheartedly concur with Staff Sergeant Wattree’s request to attend Officer Training School. He represents the enlisted ranks with the highest standard and will bring that dedication and professionalism to the officer corps.

    2. Eric continues to lead a stellar military career; his enlisted performance reports speak for themselves. His leadership and experience, especially in contingency environments, remains a vital asset to our unit and wing. As one of my primary Phoenix Raven team leaders, he’s propelled to the forefront of all major deployments throughout the world. He’s repeatedly secured aircraft and crews, supporting a wide variety of missions, in the most austere and terrorist-ridden environments where security is severely inadequate. The diversity of these missions never limited SSgt Wattree’s capacity to adapt to each situation. For this reason, Eric was selected as our 2000 Outstanding Phoenix Raven Member of the Year and the 2001 Air Force Reserve Component Airman of the Year for the 92d Security Forces Squadron.

    3. Whether operating under peacetime or contingency operations, Eric easily assumes control and tackles every situation with meticulous tenacity, a quality highly desired in our Air Force officers. Requested by name, Sergeant Wattree, provided security for presidential Banner missions throughout Greece, Peru and Viet Nam. While deployed to Afghanistan, he flew numerous combat missions in our nation’s pursuit to eradicate terrorism through Operation ENDURING FREEDOM. Additionally, he provided round-the-clock force protection for aircraft in other high-threat environments including Uzbekistan, Pakistan and Oman.

    4. Sergeant Wattree motivated his personnel during the worst conditions and raised the level of esprit de corps to integrate personnel from other Air Force specialties into a cohesive team. His leadership, integrity and devotion to our Air Force play an integral part in our future leadership. Eric has what it takes to become a commissioned officer and earns my full support to attend Officer Training School.

    After Eric was discharged, the Air Force contacted him and asked him to return for another four years, which, of course, he did. He’s now a federal agent.

    So if the government hadn’t decided to intervene on my behalf a generation ago, Eric wouldn’t be here today. And as we speak, he’s somewhere out there in the world protecting your interest. What is Ron Paul – or his son – doing for America?

  3. VERY IMPORTANT–SUNDAY NIGHT > This Coming Sunday– Set Your DVR for the Fox News channel at 9:00 PM eastern. Maybe this is why the White House has been discounting FOX. Sounds like this could be history in the making – someone may go down – either Obama or Fox News. It may be that Fox has been holding this information back due to the sensitivity of it and out of courtesy. But, Obama has taken on Fox and it appears they are ready to spill the ugly beans of truth about the background of this individual who has had an extremely radical past. This Sunday, Fox News is going to air a very important documentary about Barack Obama, Sunday night at 9P.M. Eastern. The report will go back to Obama’s earlier days, showing even then his close ties to radical Marxist professors, friends, spiritual advisers, etc. It will also reveal details about his ties to Rev. Wright for 20+ years, i.e., how he was participating with this man, and not for the reasons he stated. The report has uncovered more of Obama’s radical past and we will see things that no one in the media is willing to put out there. It will be a segment to remember. Mark your calendar and pass this on to everyone you know: Sunday night, 8 PM CT; 9 PM ET. Democrat or Republican, this report will open your eyes to how YOUR country is being sold down the road to Totalitarian Socialism. If you care about the direction of our country, pass this notice on to everyone you know.

  4. It is insane. You are correct, republicans are vicious nuts ERP (except Ron Paul) listening to Obama dictate last night proves that democrats think people are too dumb to make a middle class; progressives cant say where they are progressing to, but utopia cant be bought with other people’s money. The ERP crowd is too stupid for words. If I were a latino, I would get behind Ron Paul (Liberty) should appeal. Poor should help Ron to push for the zero income tax; Families in the inner cities and drug zones should back his stance for doing away with biased war on drugs and courts. Media is selling all those interests short, as is this column which nails the small group at the top of nutcake rep. pile. Liberty has a ring to it.

    • The problem with Ron Paul:

      1. Eviscerate Entitlements: Believes that Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid are unconstitutional, and has compared the failure of federal courts to strike them down to the courts’ failure to abolish slavery in the 19th century.

      2. Lay Off Half His Cabinet: Wants to abolish half of all federal agencies, including the departments of Energy, Education, Agriculture, Commerce, Health and Human Services, Homeland Security, and Labor.

      3. Enable State Extremism: Would let states set their own policies on abortion, gay marriage, prayer in school, and most other issues.

      4. Protect Sexual Predators’ Privacy: Voted against requiring operators of wi-fi networks who discover the transmission of child porn and other forms online sex predation to report it to the government.

      5. Rescind the Bin Laden Raid: Instead of authorizing the Navy Seals to take him out, President Paul would have sought Pakistan’s cooperation to arrest him.

      6. Simplify the Census: The questions posed by the Census Bureau’s annual American Community Survey, which collects demographics data such as age, race, and income, are “both ludicrous and insulting,” Paul says.

      7. Keep Monopolies Intact: Opposes federal antitrust legislation, calling it “much more harmful than helpful.” Thinks that monopolies can be controlled by protecting “the concept of the voluntary contract.”

      8. Lay Off Ben Bernanke: Would abolish the Federal Reserve and revert to use of currencies that are backed by hard assets such as gold.

      9. Stop Policing the Environment: Believes that climate change is no big deal and the Environmental Protection Agency is unnecessary. Most environmental problems can be addressed by enforcing private-property rights. Paul also thinks that interstate issues such as air pollution are best dealt with through compacts between states.

      10. Not Do Anything, but Still…: Would not have voted for the Civil Rights Act of 1964 because it was a “massive violation of private property and contract, which are the bedrocks of a free society.”

      11. Let Markets Care for the Disabled: “The ADA should have never been passed,” Paul says. The treatment of the handicapped should be determined by the free market.

      12. Diss Mother Teresa: Voted against giving her the Congressional Gold Medal. Has argued that the medal, which costs $30,000, is too expensive.

      • Eric, you’re misrepresenting Ron Paul on entitlements. He’s made it clear that they cannot be dismantled so quickly that people are left destitute and without the social services they’ve come to rely on. Shame on you.

        You’re an African-American, and it’s shocking you’re oblivious to the elites’ unspoken, almost unspeakable, premises behind their social programs for inner-city blacks, which are that: (1) the latter are so inferior they’re incapable of surviving without them, and (2) that elitists behind these entitlements have these people’s best interests at heart.

        And, what about the contradiction between the Democrats’ and Obama’s talking open borders out one side of their mouth while simultaneously talking about jobs for inner-city blacks out the other, when, as the facts make clear, all those millions and millions of Hispanics streaming across the border guarantee the latter objective is a brazen lie? You ignored this point the last time I raised it with you. How about an answer this time?

        I won’t comment on all the rest of your points aimed at Ron Paul–actually an argument on your part that more government is better government–except to say that opposing government doing something hardly implies that people are opposed to it being done at all. Why would the states, acting alone or together in cross-border agreements, have a lesser interest in protecting their natural resources and people than a federal government, particularly when that federal government is now fully controlled by parasitic elites whose only loyalty is to their self interest and big money donors?

          First, I’m not here to defend Obama. If you’ve read my writings you’d know that I don’t fully trust ANY politician. We live in such a diverse society that the simple fact that a politician is holding office is prima facie evidence that he or she had to lie to at least some of the people to get their vote.

          And with respect to your comments regarding Blacks:

          Dan, you’ve been watching too much television. The vast majority of people who take advantage of entitlement programs are White, and the vast majority of Black people in this country are middle class or above. The United States Census Bureau says the following:

          “African Americans are the second largest consumer group in America with a combined buying power of over $892 billion currently and likely over $1.1 trillion by 2012. In 2002 African American owned businesses accounted for 1.2 million of the US’s 23 million businesses, and 47% of Africans Americans own their own homes.”

          If you don’t know these things, I assure you, you don’t want to get into any kind of debate with me.

          • Eric, I don’t argue with your statistical points. My anger is directed at the plight of the people living in squalor in the inner cities, which condition I believe is sustained, and not alleviated, by government intervention. In light of the trillions simultaneously being wasted on these wars, whether to defend the petrodollar, serve Israel, etc., I also agree the rhetoric coming from both parties is disgusting hypocrisy.

      • You have a strong opinion about Dr. Paul – but I urge you to check the facts. Ron Paul is for personal liberty. His personal values are one thing – he does not impose that on you. He believes the Federal Government should stay out of legislating morality – including sexual behavior and marriage. Do you see the difference between his own personal values and his principle of allowing you to live as you like? If not, vote Obama or one of the other GOP stooges – they’ll send you to war, bankrupt you, assassinate you without notice or legal recourse and continue to put black people in jail under current drug laws. Is this something you support?

        A Ron Paul presidency means that tens of thousands of African American men will be returning to their families, communities and churches. They can begin working and re-building their lives. That is revolutionary! That is precisely what will happen if Ron Paul is serious about ending the Drug War and pardoning non-violent drug offenders.

        A Ron Paul presidency means that the bombs and drone missiles will stop dropping on Arabs, Africans, and Asians.

        A Ron Paul presidency means that the Federal government will no longer threaten the interests of gays who want to pursue marriage in their respective states.

        No Republican or Democrat (not even Obama) is promising these things; they neutralize the “Ron Paul is a racist” charge, and they expose Obama (and the GOP) for the damage they have allowed the War on Drugs to do to African American communities.

        Those in power fear Ron Paul and his message of liberty, freedom, and responsibility. The quotes below are the true reflection of the man and his ideas. Ideas can change the world.

        “Ideas are very important to the shaping of society. In fact, they are more powerful than bombings or armies or guns. And this is because ideas are capable of spreading without limit. They are behind all the choices we make. They can transform the world in a way that governments and armies cannot. Fighting for liberty with ideas makes more sense to me than fighting with guns or politics or political power. With ideas, we can make real change that lasts.”

        “Under the United States Constitution, the federal government has no authority to hold states “accountable” for their education performance…In the free society envisioned by the founders, schools are held accountable to parents, not federal bureaucrats.”
        “I’m convinced that you never have to give up liberties to be safe. I think you’re less safe when you give up your liberties.”

        “Freedom is not defined by safety. Freedom is defined by the ability of citizens to live without government interference. Government cannot create a world without risks, nor would we really wish to live in such a fictional place. Only a totalitarian society would even claim absolute safety as a worthy ideal, because it would require total state control over its citizens’ lives. Liberty has meaning only if we still believe in it when terrible things happen and a false government security blanket beckons.”

        “Truth is treason in the empire of lies.”

        “Mr. Speaker, I once again find myself compelled to vote against the annual budget resolution for a very simple reason: it makes government bigger.”

        “The most basic principle to being a free American is the notion that we as individuals are responsible for our own lives and decisions. We do not have the right to rob our neighbors to make up for our mistakes, neither does our neighbor have any right to tell us how to live, so long as we aren’t infringing on their rights. Freedom to make bad decisions is inherent in the freedom to make good ones. If we are only free to make good decisions, we are not really free.”

        “Liberty is lost through complacency and a subservient mindset. When we accept or even welcome automobile checkpoints, random searches, mandatory identification cards, and paramilitary police in our streets, we have lost a vital part of our American heritage. America was born of protest, revolution, and mistrust of government. Subservient societies neither maintain nor deserve freedom for long.”

        “Failure of government programs prompts more determined effort, while the loss of liberty is ignored or rationalized away…whether is it is the war on poverty, drugs, terrorism…or the current Hitler of the day, an appeal to patriotism is used to convince the people that a little sacrifice of liberty, here or there, is a small price to pay…The results, though, are frightening and will soon become even more so.”

        “When the federal government spends more each year than it collects in tax revenues, it has three choices: It can raise taxes, print money, or borrow money. While these actions may benefit politicians, all three options are bad for average Americans.”

        “A system of capitalism presumes sound money, not fiat money manipulated by a central bank. Capitalism cherishes voluntary contracts and interest rates that are determined by savings, not credit creation by a central bank.”

        “Let it not be said that no one cared, that no one objected once it’s realized that our liberties and wealth are in jeopardy.”

        “The original American patriots were those individuals brave enough to resist with force the oppressive power of King George…Patriotism is more closely linked to dissent than it is to conformity and a blind desire for safety and security.”

        “As many frustrated Americans who have joined the Tea Party realize, we cannot stand against big government at home while supporting it abroad. We cannot talk about fiscal responsibility while spending trillions on occupying and bullying the rest of the world. We cannot talk about the budget deficit and spiraling domestic spending without looking at the costs of maintaining an American empire of more than 700 military bases in more than 120 foreign countries. We cannot pat ourselves on the back for cutting a few thousand dollars from a nature preserve or an inner-city swimming pool at home while turning a blind eye to a Pentagon budget that nearly equals those of the rest of the world combined.”

        “It is no coincidence that the century of total war coincided with the century of central banking.”

        “A citizen walking through the airport today is bombarded with 1984-style propaganda messages that are designed to make us fear some amorphous threat and also be suspicious of others. The government designs these messages to make us feel dependent and heavily lorded over in every aspect of our lives. These messages are becoming ever more pervasive, hitting us even in grocery stores when we are shopping.”

          Ron Paul is a typical demagogue. He specializes in combining fact with fiction, and pointing out everything that’s wrong with all of the policies that are contrary to his agenda, Then he claims that his irresponsible solution is a cure for all of our problems, which is an exercise in pure fiction. Paul is quoted as saying the following:

          “The most basic principle to being a free American is the notion that we as individuals are responsible for our own lives and decisions. We do not have the right to rob our neighbors to make up for our mistakes, neither does our neighbor have any right to tell us how to live, so long as we aren’t infringing on their rights. Freedom to make bad decisions is inherent in the freedom to make good ones. If we are only free to make good decisions, we are not really free.”

          In response, his entire premise is flawed. Total personal freedom was clearly not the intent of the founding fathers. They recognized that a society, or civilization, is defined as a “GROUP of people who have joined together to pursue a common interest or goal.” So they set out their intent in the preamble of the United States Constitution, which reads as follows:

          We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, ESTABLISH JUSTICE, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the COMMON DEFENSE, promote the general Welfare [not just make Ron Paul happy] and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.”

          Thus, if Ron Paul doesn’t like the rules we’ve set up to “promote the general welfare,” he has the freedom to move to the wilderness and not live among us. But according Ron Paul’s philosophy he should have the right to piss against a wall in the middle of Times Square during rush hour, and the government should be precluded from stopping him. You see, according to Paul’s philosophy, and flawed reading of the document, that right is guaranteed to him by the United States Constitution.

          So in essence, he wants to have his cake and eat it to. He wants to take advantage of the benefits of living in an ordered society, while not having to adhere to the rules that make it a society. For example, he contends that the civil rights laws that prevent him from refusing to serve certain groups in his restaurant abridges his right to private ownership. But on the other hand, he has absolutely no problem with the fact that the group that he bans is forced to pay taxes that support “his right to private ownership.” If his business catches on fire, he’s going to expect the group’s tax supported fire department to come put it out. And if he’s robbed, he’s going to expect the banned group’s tax supported police department to come to his aid. He can’t have it both ways
