Tally ho, boys! The Fox hunting season has just opened!
by Kevin Barrett
Looks like the above Fox News video edited out the Fox guys’ provocations. Listen to the Fox News cameraman screaming: “I’ll kill twenty %$##@’s, I gotta gun….”
I am not in any way condoning, endorsing, approving, or sanctioning the deplorable behavior of those ill-natured brutes who engaged in four rounds of fast and furious fisticuffs with Fox News reporter Steven Crowder.
Twelve rounds would be more like it.
And I certainly am not urging anyone to do the same thing to Bill O’Reilly, Sean Hannity, or Ruppert Murdoch.
Nor am I suggesting that killing Bill O’Reilly and throwing him into Boston’s East River would be justifiable homicide – even though he, 9/11 cover-up criminal and smarmy, treasonous weasel that he is, once stated on television that I should be disposed of in like manner, as punishment for my research, publication and activism on 9/11.
I realize that it would be illegal to condone, endorse, approve, sanction, incite, or urge violence against Fox News and the blow-dried airhead assholes who own, manage and front for it. And, as President Nixon once said, it would be wrong.
I certainly wouldn’t want ordinary working Americans to commit any violence against the rich criminals who are looting them and destroying their future.
After all, the wealthy and powerful have a monopoly on violence. That’s how they keep the social order.
It’s perfectly okay for us to pay taxes to turn ordinary guys into police and soldiers trained to kill, kidnap, imprison, brutalize, and terrorize ordinary working people – and protect the vast, undeserved wealth of the DIPS (dominant inbred psychopaths). We commit hundreds of thousands, maybe millions of murders every year by paying taxes. And that’s okay.
But suggest that it might be okay for a working class guy to go ahead and punch out an upper-class twit who’s trying to brainwash and destroy him and the rest of the ordinary American people…a slimebag who works for an organization complicit in the murder of 3,000 Americans on 9/11…that’s totally unacceptable.
(When you point out that) there exist those people (often buttressed or seemingly constrained by organizations) who will not listen to reason, and who can be stopped no way other than through meeting their violence with your own–the response is always the same. Mainstream environmentalists and peace and justice activists put up what I’ve taken to calling a “Gandhi shield.” Their voices get thin, and I can see them psychically shut down. Their faces turn to stone. Their bodies do not move, but the ghosts of their bodies form fingers into the shapes of crosses trying to keep vampires and evil thoughts at bay, and they begin to chant “Gandhi, Dalai Lama, Martin Luther King, Gandhi, Dalai Lama, Martin Luther King” in an effort to keep themselves pure. Grassroots environmentalists generally do the same, except after the talk some will sidle up to me, make sure no one is watching, and whisper in my ear, “Thank you for raising this issue.” Often, young anarchists get excited, because someone is articulating something they know in their bones but have not yet put words to, and because they’ve not yet bought into–and been consumed by–the culture. The most interesting response comes from some of the other people with whom I’ve spoken: survivors of domestic violence, radical environmentalists, Indians, farmers, and prisoners (For three years I taught creative writing at Pelican Bay State Prison, a supermaximum security facility here in Crescent City). Their response is generally to nod slowly, look me hard in the eye, then say, “Tell me something I don’t already know.” Some will say, “What are you waiting for, bro? Let’s go.”
Jensen would probably say: As soon as we disarm the world’s armies, police forces and private security companies, and the kleptocrats they work for, open the gates to all the prisons, and renounce the structural violence that underlies our whole society, THEN I will support absolute nonviolence. But until that day, I will defend – to the death – the right of the poor, weak and oppressed to defend themselves against the depredations of their tormentors.
But that’s Jensen.
Me, I am horrified – outraged, dismayed, flabbergasted, discomfited, disconcerted, and appalled – that some union guys landed a few punches on a Fox News talking head.
