Mother of twins shoots burglar five times

One week later other burglars find woman hiding in closet and shoot her

… by  Jim W. Dean, VT Editor

This is what brother Paul looked like before getting shot five times breaking into a home with mom and kids.

We had two recent home gun shootings in Atlanta that got local but no national news, one good and the other bad.

A north Atlanta work at home mother of twins heard knocks on her front door Friday afternoon, January 4th, which she assumed was a door to door solicitation.

Within a few minutes she would find herself hiding in and upstairs crawl space closet with her young twins. Her ears would be ringing, her .38 revolver empty with a strong smell of gunpowder, and a Mr. Paul Ali Slater on the floor with five bullet holes in him.

Slater, a multiple offender with six arrests dating back to 2008 in Gwinnett County, Georgia was recently released from jail in August after serving six months for battery and multiple probation violations. He was a big, strong man, working upper class neighborhood burglaries with his crowbar.

The upper middle class ones are chosen for the good pickins and both spouses working most of the time. But with two car garages robbers can’t tell for sure if someone is home so they play the door to door solicitor roulette game. If a woman answers they can gamble that she is home alone and pull a weapon on her. If there is no answer, they can force the door open.

Slater began using the door bell after the knocking.  Mrs. Herman had yelled down to the twins not to answer the door and called her husband who told her to hide with the kids while he called 911.

Slater worked his way through the entire three story house until finally opening the attic office closet door where he got introduced to mom’s .38, which she preceded to empty on him. Taking five bullets in the neck and head, many obviously having grazed him, he was both an unlucky and a very lucky man to have survived.

Incredibly Slater was able to get down to his car where police found him bleeding profusely in a neighbor’s driveway.”I’m dying, help me”, Slater requested of the deputies. He survived.

Said husband Don, “She’s a hero. she protected her kids, she did what she was supposed to do.” To that I say, “Yes, but she had a gun, and that made all the difference.”

Story two, another home break in shooting on the south side of Atlanta had two buglar’s rummaging a house but because of the closet shooting story of the week before were being more careful. When they found Milissa Burke hiding in her closet they shot her on the spot.

She also was unlucky and lucky as she is expected to survive. She did not have a gun.

Gun stores on the north and south sides of Atlanta had runs on them the following few days. It always takes events like these happening to bring home the reality that defending your home and your person begins with being armed. Absent that, you are rolling the dice with your own and maybe even your families lives.

I have been targeted in three robberies and assaults. With the first I had a recently hired ex-con maintenance man at my apartment complex let himself inside my place to see what I had of value. He had come in the back door which they never do, and he did not yell, ‘ Maintenance man, maintenanece man’, like they were supposed to.

Unfortunately for him I was home, sleeping late, and when the door knob to my bedroom slowly turned I was waiting for him, having grabbed my bedside shotgun. I had already decided that if he had a weapon I was going to blow him away on the spot. Luckily for him, for both of us, he did not.

The Raven .22 – a very inexpensive pocket gun, but not much hitting power

On another occasion, when we were having a gang raping problem in Atlanta, black teens grabbing couples going to their cars after weekend night events. I had started carrying my little .25 auto in my jacket pocket.

After attending a Fox Theater event I had advised my date that we would sit and wait til all the cars cleared out of the underground parking for 20 minutes or so to avoid the traffic jam.

When we finally left, as we got down the stairs to the lower level, up the other side come six or seven black teens walking directly toward us.

My body pores opened up right away and my temperature went up a few degrees. The feeling was like being microwaved for a few seconds. I whispered to my date to just hit the ground when I started shooting, something which upset her immensely.

As they drew nearer they began to part, to encircle us, but to my amazement the leader, a short kid walked straight up to me, pulling out a cigarette and asked if I had a light. It was like being in a movie. I just couldn’t believe it.

I said, “Sure”, grabbed his Afro with my left hand and produced my .25 auto between his eyeballs.  The situation had now improved greatly.

I then said, “This is how this is going to go down. I am going to count to three, and if I can even see one of your buddies I am going to start pulling this trigger.” As soon as I said one…the others took off in both directions. I gave him a three count, also, and it was over.

When we got in the car I don’t mind saying that both of us got the post event shakes. Some of you might have been there before. This, by the way, was a very anti-gun girl. As she shuddered she kept repeating over and over,”I was going to get gang banged, wasn’t I?”  She told me that if she had even known that I owned a gun she never would have gone out with me, one of those. And yes, she became pro gun overnight.

When she flew back to Florida dad took her to the gun store and they followed my advice to get lots of ammo and practice a good bit pulling her gun out quickly from clothing and pocket book and shooting at close range.

Even shooting through the pocket book needs to be practiced as that builds up the confidence you need to not panic and freeze up, excuse me ladies. If you think you are going to do a good job at this the first time live with no previous practice, you will probably not.

Close range is great for being able to hit your target but you have to be fast or you can end up in a gun struggle, very bad, which does not work out well for the ladies most of the time.

The classic Browning 14 shot 9mm

The last one was a less happy event. I got robbed when exiting a Burger King in Atlanta after it had closed and the dummies turned out the parking lot lights. It was a rainy night and there was a black apartment project across the street. My robber had done his recon.

He came up behind me while I was putting the key in the lock, flipped me around quickly and I found myself with a bayonet at my throat…a novel experience.

He stepped back and very professionally said, “Your cash and your credit cards”. I was most cooperative. He had a tight hoodie and sunglasses on and took off like a bullet across four lanes of traffic. I could not have ID’d him for a million dollars.

The irony of this story was I had my Browning 9mm in my car glove compartment, in which I had invested a small fortune in ammo becoming deadly at close range with a quick cross draw from the belt pull.

I was not in the cowboy quick shoot league but I could hit a soccer ball target 100% of the time without having to aim, the ole point and shoot. and quick enough.  I could even hit multiple targets at a large room size range. But alas the quick draw from the glove box when you are outside the car does not work very well.

If any of you out there know women who own guns who think they can defend themselves, but who never practice close range combat shooting, or maybe even haven’t ever FIRED the gun, please tell them for me they are a danger to themselves.

Owning a gun is just step number one.  It’s about as effective as the act of buying a condom is to birth control. There are a few more steps to follow. This never worked with my mother, though, the gun part.

There is no new gun restriction legislation in the works here in Georgia. Two bills have been introduced to allow school districts to arm and train their people, and another to allow concealed carry on campuses and churches.

Once you get outside metro Atlanta there generally are no places where people want to be sitting ducks. These are ‘real world’ type people down here.  Bad hombres are just something that have to be dealt with.

And oh, if you have to shoot somebody, prepare yourself for about $50,000 in criminal and civil defense legal bills.  If the shooter does not go after you the family will, trying to get an insurance settlement. Lawyers are standing in line to take cases like that. But that said, it’s better than being dead. I can guarantee that.

  1. Great article! It’s inspiring to realize that the entire country isn’t nearly as ignorant as the MSM would have us all believe! As a Veteran, I was unarmed until the government started their threats. Now, I’m prepared!

  2. Good Work! Shoot Bad Guys Dead. Give scum what they deserve. Too bad this guy did not kick the bucket.

    • Yeah, and now the Herman family will have to contend with a costly lawsuit for defending themselves against this poor victim of society who only wanted to rob, rape or murder them.
If it would have been me, I would have followed him out the door and finished the nigger off. No one would have been able to prove otherwise.
Now the family is going to get sued courtesy of some jew lawyers who will take the family for everything they’ve got and the poor victim of society will be given free medical care until he is released back onto the streets to do his thing again.
Reminds me of a similar incident in Colorado when a couple of illegal mexicans broke into a house where only a twelve year old girl was present…..only they didn’t know she was as expert skeet and trap shooter…..the result: two dead illegals.
The fact that black on white crime is never reported only white on black, which 99% of the time is a fraud.
Of course the MSM is owned and controlled by jews.

  3. I’ve written this before, so pardon the redundancy. Guns are inanimate objects that do not move untli someone moves them. We can so easily toss our mentally challenged people in the streets with no where to go, while guns are easy to get. Reagan did just that, and increased the homeless of this country.
Protecting ourselves is our right. Guns have been, are, and will continue to be easy to get no matter what Obama does. There are enough laws on the books now to enforce gun crimes if they would just do it. All these falseflag events are an exercise in chamelionic chicanery. But the script Obama was handed, is becoming too difficult to follow. A poor script with poor actors becomes a grade d movie, and leaves little impact on the general population.
If I were a thief, the last one I would choose to rob, rape, harass, threaten, bully, etc;, etc;, is someone with a gun. How simple can this equation become. If someone doesn’t want to arm themselves, then so be it. Lots of people would, and have. Carrying a gun should not require a permit. Training should be required and after that, it should be kept silent, and private. Our government is reducing us to sissies so reliant on them that we are doing good to feed ourselves.
Keep up the honest work Mr. Dean, and this entire crew.

  4. Also many years back (like 1972), met two nice young Jewish fellows on Oahu. They’d left New York City to visit the land of foodstamps, living on the beach, magic mushrooms, and world class pot. They were both on SSI for too many acid trips (they said). One guy told me, “I will never go back to New York because the junkies just walk right into your apartment, even if you are home, and casually take whatever they want. And after about two week, when they think you’ve probably bought a new stereo to replace the one they stole, they walk right in again and take that one.

It was only years later that I realized this kid had told me about gun control. I now wonder if he understood that gun control was the cause of his woes.

These two were pretty pitiful, but I bet one is a university professor by now and the other is probably at least in some state legislature. Back on Ohau, they wouldn’t ever take off their boots. Not ever! You’d small their ripe feet way down the beach park when the morning sun hit the nylon of their tightly-closed tent. You’d see them at Makapuu, one of the best body surfing beaches in the world, sitting there on the sand in shorts and…. boots! Asked why, the response was that back in New York City, if you took off your shoes at the beach they were instantly stolen, even if they were old and worn out. Of course these dudes didn’t take their boots off at night, either. That’s the why for the above-mentioned ripe, cheezy foot smell! Keep up the good work here at VT!

  5. Haha. I heard that one Gordon! Good article Jim. The guy survived!!! Lucky. I remember the story of the two teens who broke into that senior war vets home. I think Gordon wrote that one. Not so lucky for those kids though.

  6. Great writing, Jim W. Dean! One of the best posts ever here! I’m reminded of how they do it in Jamaica, when some out of town low life comes into a tourist area for “easy takings.” The locals take him back into the swamp and beat him near to death. Of course they never need to mention the race in those cases.

Here’s another interesting fact about Jamaica. There are very few legal guns. There are extremely stiff, repressive penalties for illegal gun owners or even getting caught with one round of ammo. However, the few legal gun owners must be very careful because criminals go all out to get their guns. I talked to one old woman in Kingston, She used to board the children of diplomats when they were out of town. She had a friend who owned a licensed revolver that he wore protruding up front, from over his belt. Two men laid in wait and ambushed him, shot him dead, just to get that simple little .38. The same will happen here, no matter how the feds manage to disarm us, if there are any firearms left, criminals will find a way to acquire them.

    • Barbados had the one bullett felong, too, ten years I think it was. And you had to have juice with high level gov people to get a license to carry.

But as a follow up to your story, the black police force, they had a very high conviction rate based on ‘confessions’ about 95%. They also has a strange problem of arrestees attacking police officers or attempting escape, which often required them going to the hospital.

The country had no problem with it whatsoever, thes new media did not editorialize. It was used in situations where they would catch one in a gang and want to know who the others were. So they put the muscle on them. The public hated the robbers and punks and wanted expedited justice for them. You can just imagine if white police had been doing this.

It did make being a defense attorney tough though, as when you got the case your client had already confessed and all claimed they were beaten by police, which the black judges never believed.

Before I left, my last year, I discovered that some enterprising people were using nail guns for home protection, and being very quiet about it. These were the ones that used .22 blanks to put a foundation nail into concrete. I shudder at the thought of taking one of those. But the blanks were not considered bullets.

The prison was a trip, too. They were using the same one that the pirates used, literally…no plumbing…group cells with a poop and pee barrels…no food service or laundry done. Every prisoner, or their family had to arrange for that. And the thought of using tax money to make prisoners more comfortable was DOA. There was no reform movement.

  7. Great article, read it from the first to the last line. There is only one other writer at WND mentioning the race of the attackers.

What would be interesting is if there were some Philip K. Dick writing how the situation looks like in the year 2050. (Not over the top Judge Dredd torture style.)

  8. duay khwaam nap theuu

Good article. Well-reported and the first person accounts exceedingly readable. Thanks, Jim.

I am sooo grateful I don’t live in a urban or violent crime area. Here it’s more like the post War small town ways described above. Grateful, grateful, grateful.

(Also appreciate The Rahnameh’s take on Obama and Biden’s handling of the guns insanity; most insightful analysis I’ve seen)

  9. When you get out into the country the crime gets more white as you have your dopers, meth addicts and low lifes that have their own theft carrers. But they mostly don’t operate in gangs, and it is not as socially acceptable in their own community (ie., paying some group back for some historical group beef).

I came from a small town where we had very little crime, but a peer of mine began breaking into cars, tourists primarily, going after cameras and 8-track tape players, so nobody local would be mad. When folks found out, a little committee went to visit him to explain that what he was doing hurt the toursim biz which hurt the community and if they ever heard of him robbing anybody again they would come back and break his other leg.

He seemed to have reformed while he was recuperating :-) The story went all over town. He never pressed charges, nor did his family, and the police did not investigate. It was fixed. Everyone got to observe, especially the kids, what deterrent meant…and this kid never went to prison or had a record.

    • Hey, what are you complaining about? I live very close to some of the very finest Methamphetamine producers in the world. They’re all successful, white independent businessmen whose product is sought all over the world.

  10. Just read Obama’s “23 Executive Orders” pertaining to gun control and to me, they look and smell like diplomatic toilet paper…… just kinda stinky but nothing to lose any sleep over.

Along with a “please, Congress, Dianne Feinstein asked me to beg you to ban “assault” rifles. Pretty please, with sugar on top?”

I’m extremely happy to report that maybe (just maybe) I was WRONG about Obama. In his own kinda pathetic way, he just told the zionists to eff themselves. Again, after shoving Chuck Hagel into their overgrown snouts.

But hey, good news is hard to find these days so I’ll take what I can get.

    • Brilliant analysis, Dave. You really get it. The President was faced with political pressure from the Zionists via their Sandy Hook stunt to push forward action towards a police state. The emotional outpouring was evident among the sheeple, still a majority of Americans if we’re being intellectually honest. It was, after all, the Zionists who were pushing the agenda as they brag in their own popular, mainstream circular: ***www.forward.com/articles/168063/after-newtown-jews-lead-renewed-push-on-guns/?p=all

The President responded by appointing to the “action committee”, Vice President Biden, a staunch opponent of the Fifth column. After going through the necessary motions, he then applied a hollow gesture of Executive Orders to enforce already existing laws in an agreeable way without diminishing the Second Amendment.

Most importantly, in his speech, he stated: 1- his Executive Orders are nothing compared to Congressional Legislation; 2- it is Congress’ duty to pass laws; 3- the right to bear arms is inalienable and endowed upon us by a Creator (beyond the reach of man); and that 4- the consent of ALL Americans (not just a select few) must be obtained to pass any laws to abridge the right to bear arms. In effect, he applied the necessary emotional posturing to appease the emotional sheeple while passing the ball to Congress. “Call them” if you want action. Pay attention to their special interests while you do ;)

Now pay attention to the emerging “crises”. The Fifth Column is relentless. This POTUS better learn to become proactive instead of reactive soon or he will constantly be on his back feet while they unfold their “history”.

      • He knew he was going to be in for a helluva fight and decided he didn’t want to take the guns out of the hands of his dear 47 percenters who are on his shopping list. I can’t see where Obama effed the Zios, he is all sham and mirrors. But, you may be right. He killed, after all, a very dead bin Laden and it takes quite a guy to do that. Killing a dead man is some neato trick that only Oblame-You could pull off. Having those Seal Team Sixers murdered took incredible bravery and guts, too. Thank the Lord he has one of them Haaaaaavaaaaad educations.

      • As the US over extends its Military in hundreds of countries that we should never be in to begin with, we always need to remind ourselves that America in so many ways has the largest free standing Army in the World. 15 Million+ Hunters that are GOOD with Rifles not to mention those with small arms. Here in Montana basements are like a Military Cache with weapons I would not want to admit to on here.

When Admiral Yamomoto was asked about invading the American mainland he said, “There was a Rifle behind every blade of grass.” A smart man, for it would have been suicide then and genocide now.

    • The first mistake we are making is swallowing their word coup. Assault weapons are already banned as they are fully automatic. What are called assault rifles now are jazzed up semi-automatic rifles to look like the real ones.

The Right did something similar when fighting the inheritance tax, which applied to a small number of people, which was the problem. So the PR guys came up with renaming it the ‘death tax’. They were betting that a large amount of the public was so stupid that they would think it was a tax on them, and of course they were against paying death taxes.

Purely by changing the name to death taxes, they were able to get those calls pouring it to the Congresscritters. This change the name game is played all the time.

They even have a ‘don’t change the name’ game, the anti-semite one. Disagree with on anything Jewish or Israeli, your an anti-semtie…no exception, no levels of degree like an AS brown or black belt…one size fits all.

What they are doing is ‘PR terrorism’. See…I am doing it now, trying to change the name.

And they did the same thing with the ‘Neo-Confederate’ term. I have never met a southern heritage person the describeded themselves that way, or new anyone who did. But the you know whose knew that their media buddies with run with it as they love to play tag, the ruthless smear kind.

All of this goes back to the classic ‘ritual defamation’ psy ops, which Laird Wilcox covered a lot of in his books on extremists. He was not popular because he roasted the Left and the Right equally for using the same extremist tactics. Wilcox had been booked a year in advance to speak to a sheriff’s convention before Oklahoma City.

During his talk he started to lay on them that ‘certain groups’ were already hustling them to steer the investigation in a way to create a white supremacist tie in, and that many of them were being a bit ‘too easy’ in buying into that….they started getting up and walking out. The truth hurt that much. And that ended his speaking engagements at that level. Somebody pressed a button on him and it was over that quick. That’s terrorism.

      • Pr terrorism. Kinda like how the bs website, “rat face Jew” was created by the adl….
Great article Jim. Very eye opening.

      • And then they get all self-righteous and self-pitying when “ritual defamation” turns into “ritual getting even” from the other side.

        • Here is the wording the NRA used. This is the first time I have seen the term ‘military style’ used. What has happened here is the anti-gunners have turned Sandy Hook into anti-gun crack, which once snorted, the public does not even bother think out they have not seen a single photo or .223 shell casings, a photo of that weapon near the kid, or even validation that his finger prints were on it.

The cops said, for the first time, that they would be releasing nothing about their investigation until it was over, after setting that up with their maybe being at the school for several months doing forensics.

So what we have here is the Patriot Act of gun legislation being rushed through before we really know what happened. I wish I could tell you what we know already but do not have the clearances. It’s not pretty. But despite that , the stupidity of the public once again gets demonstrated to the elites that ‘hey, this mass killing thing of kids really did the trick. Give the guy who thought his up a month off in the islands,”….figuratively speaking.

“The group issued its statement on the same day that President Obama unveiled a series of sweeping gun control measures which called for a ban on military-style assault weapons and high-capacity ammunition magazines, including wider background checks on gun buyers.”

          • No doubt…… A psy-op within multiple psy-ops…… all carefully constructed for maximum effect.

But after all is said and done, I think the balance has shifted: more people are onto the scam than are still asleep.

Don’t believe Zogby and the polls….they’re just well paid liars.

      • Preston James, Ph.D

A great article only surpassed by your comment here Jim on how the USG and the major mass media has psyoped the sheeple by defining semi-auto rifles with removable clips as “assault rifles” which is a complete semantic fabrication and a total lie. Thanks for putting this issue of this recent obsession by the corrupt central USG in proper prespective. It is nothing less than the big lie and a con and you have disassembled it nicely, Jim. This is just another chapter in their lust for totalitarianism and the complete destruction of the Constitution and Bill of Rights. Many thanks Jim.

    • You will NEVER be wrong about Obama. A tiger never loses his stripes and you can never, ever underestimate the America hater that Obama is. If you think you might have been wrong about Obama, you might have to finish your GED sometime soon.

      • I am still baffled by how people fail to see through all the deception. War is by deception. While charging Manning with Aiding the Enemy, The United States Government or the Obama “Regime” who picked up this FAKE “War on Terror” over the alleged enemy of Al Qaeda. Over and over you can watch videos of Obama blaming the Al Qaeda for 9/11 and there other notorious crimes. Which no White Paper will ever be produced.

However, Arming the very Al Qaeda in Syria while claiming to fight that same Al Qaeda in Afghanistan, Mali, Somalia, Yemen is in fact. TREASON!

Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying War against them, or in adhering to their Enemies, giving them Aid and Comfort. No Person shall be convicted of Treason unless on the Testimony of two Witnesses to the same overt Act, or on Confession in open Court.
The Congress shall have Power to declare the Punishment of Treason, but no Attainder of Treason shall work Corruption of Blood, or Forfeiture except during the Life of the Person attainted.

The Constitution does not itself create the offense; it only restricts the definition (the first paragraph), permits Congress to create the offense, and restricts any punishment for treason to only the convicted (the second paragraph). The crime is prohibited by legislation passed by Congress. Therefore the United States Code at 18 U.S.C. § 2381 states “whoever, owing allegiance to the United States, levies war against them or adheres to their enemies, giving them aid and comfort within the United States or elsewhere, is guilty of treason and shall suffer death, or shall be imprisoned not less than five years and fined under this title but not less than $10,000; and shall be incapable of holding any office under the United States.”

When will they release Manning as he did NOTHING. Yet the United States HAS. Arming Al Qaeda, De-Listing the Mujaheddin, Releasing Taliban that Biden said wasn’t the enemy and confirmed by the White House and “Welcomed by the Taliban.” Then sending Billions to the Muslim Brotherhood (WTC 1993). Yes this is all tantamount to Treason.

Some where there should be the addition of War Crimes and Crimes against Humanity too.
