Opinion: A newly disclosed memo reveals Trump’s plot to turn the military into his personal goon squad

…from Max Boot and the Washington Post

[ Editor’s Note: It always nice to see a major reporter and their platform acknowledge when they had been sandbagged on a story, and Boot steps up to the plate to give himself a spanking.

But much of the credit goes to another reporter who dug up a Trump fanny kisser staff memo of Johnny McEntee. I had seen a steady rot in the Trump Whitehouse of staff trying to climb the hierarchy ladder by playing snitch and even exaggerating events they knew would piss Trump off, that challenged our ‘Mr. Know It All President’.

McEntee is getting an historical reputation as one of the more groveling presidential staff people in history. Part of that might be due to his starting out carrying Trump’s bag as a ‘presidential’ assistant.

It looks like a classic story of ‘I am working in a nest of vipers so I have to become one to climb the ladder so I have a post presidential grift career, like I see so many others having’.

My instincts from looking at the guy is that he might have been really close to Trump in some other ways than a personal servant. I will let you guess the rest. Maybe a photo will emerge someday to confirm.

But this is a reminder to all of us that defeating the Trump hype legacy is not enough, as his gang will just shift their loyalty to his replacement so they can stay in the game, which is what they really pledge allegiance to… Jim W. Dean ]

John David McEntee II (born May 9, 1990) is an American political advisor who served as Director of the White House Presidential Personnel Office in the Trump Administration. McEntee began as a body man and personal aide to the president until he was dismissed by White House chief of staff John Kelly in March 2018.

McEntee had failed a security clearance background check and was under investigation by the Homeland Security Department for possible financial crimes relating to gambling.[1][2][3][4]

After Kelly was dismissed in December 2018, Trump rehired McEntee and named him Director of the Office of Presidential Personnel in February 2020.[5][6][7][8] Trump assigned McEntee the task of identifying for removal political appointees and career officials who were insufficiently loyal to the president.[9][10][11]

The man behind the President’s behind

First published November 15, 2021

I want to apologize to Mark T. Esper, former president Donald Trump’s fourth and second-to-last defense secretary. I may have been too harsh on the man who became known as “Yesper” for accommodating Trump.

As I noted in March: “He did not vocally protest pardons for war criminals, the use of the defense budget to build a border wall or the withdrawal of troops from Germany.” But now that we have seen fresh evidence of how much Trump and his henchmen loathed Esper, he is rising in my estimation.

That evidence comes courtesy of ABC News reporter Jonathan Karl, who has unearthed a memorandum from Johnny McEntee, Trump’s director of presidential personnel, listing 14 reasons for ousting Esper. That document was dated Oct. 19, 2020. Three weeks later Esper was fired by a Trump tweet.

The very premise of McEntee’s memo was both sinister and ludicrous — a 30-year-old of no professional or intellectual distinction, whose path to power was carrying Trump’s bags, was making the case for getting rid of a senior Cabinet officer for insufficient loyalty to the president.

This revealing and chilling document deserves to be read not as a historical curiosity but as a terrible portent of what could be in store if Trump wins another term. He appears determined to turn the military into his personal goon squad.
