Russia Equipped Syria with Most Advanced Anti-Ship Missile Systems

By Michael Snyder

“If the U.S. Navy is not very careful to stay out of range, we could easily see footage of destroyed U.S. naval vessels sinking into the Mediterranean Sea on the evening news.”–Michael Snyder

P-800-Yakhont-300x176Russia has sold Syria highly advanced rocket launchers, anti-aircraft missiles and anti-ship missiles.  In fact, the P-800 Yakhont anti-ship missiles that Russia has equipped Syria with are the most advanced anti-ship missiles that Russia has.

When the United States strikes Syria, they might be quite surprised at how hard Syria can hit back.  The Syrian military is the most formidable adversary that the U.S. military has tangled with in the Middle East by far.

From Syria, P-800 Yakhont anti-ship missiles can cover much of the eastern Mediterranean and can even reach air bases in Cyprus.  If the U.S. Navy is not very careful to stay out of range, we could easily see footage of destroyed U.S. naval vessels sinking into the Mediterranean Sea on the evening news.  And once the American people see such footage, it will be impossible to stop a full-blown war between the United States and Syria.

Syria has highly advanced weapons systems that Afghanistan, Iraq and Libya did not have.  Anyone that thinks that we can just sit back and lob cruise missiles at them is being naive.  Syria has weapons that “have never before been seen” in the Middle East.  The following is from a recent article by Mac Slavo:

According to the report from Syrian-based Dam Press and the Dyar Newspaper, the Russians aren’t backing off their Syria policy and they are getting ready to double down by supplying Assad’s military with weapons the have never before been seen in the middle east.

If and when Western forces engage the Syrian army you can be assured that it will be nothing like the 1991 conflict in Iraq when a hundred thousand of Saddam Hussein’s soldiers surrendered without firing a shot. Nor will it be a no-fly zone free-for-all where air forces will be able to target military assets as they did in Libya without being challenged.

No, this time will be different.

Posted below are some excerpts from a translation of the article from Syrian-based Dam Press that Mac Slavo mentioned:

The Patriot Missiles will be hit and repealed withS300 SAM [already installed in Syria]Putin also threatened to deliver the more advanced S400 anti-aircraft missiles

He added that Russia will also supply Syria with state-of-the-art 24-Barrell rocket launchers which have a range of 60 km ranked as the most developed artillery weapon of its kind.

Putin clearly stated that the Middle East is going to witness a significant change.  Syria will be armed with weapons that have never been seen before [in the Middle East] including computer guided smart missiles that never miss their target.

He also added that Russia will supply Syria with Skean 5 ground-to-sea missiles that are capable of hitting and sinking any target up to 250 km off the Syrian coast.

The weapons systems mentioned in that article are very powerful.  For instance, the video posted below contains footage of the rocket launchers mentioned in the article:

But of most immediate concern for the U.S. military are the anti-ship missiles which Syria has reportedly acquired.

According to the New York Times, the P-800 Yakhont anti-ship missiles that Russia has sent to Syria are equipped with highly advanced radar capabilities:

Russia has sent advanced antiship cruise missiles to Syria, a move that illustrates the depth of its support for the Syrian government led by President Bashar al-Assad, American officials said Thursday.

Russia has previously provided a version of the missiles, called Yakhonts, to Syria. But those delivered recently are outfitted with an advanced radar that makes them more effective, according to American officials who are familiar with classified intelligence reports and would only discuss the shipment on the basis of anonymity.

These missiles have a range of approximately 180 miles, and they can do an extraordinary amount of damage:

The missiles are about 22 feet long, carry either a high-explosive or armor-piercing warhead, and have a range of about 180 miles, according to Jane’s.

They can be steered to a target’s general location by longer-range radars, but each missile has its own radar to help evade a ship’s defenses and home in as it approaches its target.

Two senior American officials said that the most recent shipment contained missiles with a more advanced guidance system than earlier shipments.

Posted below is video footage of a test firing of a P-800 Yakhont anti-ship missile:

YouTube - Veterans Today -

And yes, these missiles have the range to hit targets in Cyprus.  Perhaps someone should tell U.S. military planners that it is probably not a good idea to be parking so much air power at bases there.

It also looks like the Syrians are going to have plenty of naval targets to shoot at as well.  According to Reuters, a U.S. carrier group will soon be joining the five U.S. destroyers that are already parked in the eastern Mediterranean:

The nuclear-powered aircraft carrier USS Nimitz and other ships in its strike group are heading west toward the Red Sea to help support a limited U.S. strike on Syria, if needed, defense officials said on Sunday.

The Nimitz carrier strike group, which includes four destroyers and a cruiser, has no specific orders to move to the eastern Mediterranean at this point, but is moving west in the Arabian Sea so it can do so if asked. It was not immediately clear when the ships would enter the Red Sea, but they had not arrived by Sunday evening, said one official.

“It’s about leveraging the assets to have them in place should the capabilities of the carrier strike group and the presence be needed,” said the official.

In addition, ABC News says that an amphibious ship “with several hundred Marines aboard” is also parked in the eastern Mediterranean:

On Friday, the USS San Antonio, a Navy amphibious ship with several hundred Marines aboard, was ordered to remain in the eastern Mediterranean though defense officials said it too was not part of the U.S. military planning for a limited strike against Syria. Defense officials described the move as “a prudent decision should the ship’s capabilities be required.

The San Antonio was originally to be in the Mediterranean as part of a long-scheduled commitment to support U.S. Africa Command, several officials said. The ship was on its way to a port call at the U.S naval base at Souda Bay on the Greek Island of Crete when it was ordered to remain in the area.

The San Antonio has resources that could prove useful in future operations in the region. For example, the ship has several hundred Marines aboard from the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), as well as several helicopters or V-22 Ospreys that could be useful in helping to rescue downed pilots.

So what do you think will happen if the Syrians are able to hit any of our ships or any of the air bases in Cyprus?

Do you think that there is any chance that we will be able to avoid a full-blown war at that point?

Iskander-M is not meant to shoot down other missiles/aircraft. Iskander-M is a short range ballistic missile, and is the best in it’s class and has no competition anywhere in the world, it moves at Mach 7 and constantly changes trajectory, it can evade all counter measures including laser. The Tomahawk is generations behind what Russia Rocket engineers have at their disposal, the Iskander-M Onix, Granit, P-270 Moskit, BrahMos, and Yakhont are only a few of the Russia hyper-sonic tungsten armor piercing missiles, sure the range is lower, but Russia also has slower (still faster than Tomahawk) missiles that can do 1600 km plus in range. The Club-S and Club-K are also lethal. On the Club-K the missile goes less than Mach 1.0 but once it nears the target the warhead shoots off like a bullet and hits the target at hypersonic speeds (and is near impossible to hit)!!!!! S-300’s are in play, S-400’s are close-by (Putin is considering putting them there). The S-400 can do Mach 12, so in terms of anti-air it is in a class that nothing can touch. The S-500 is in development now too, and that thing is light years ahead of anything the US can even think up.

We are going to get our ass kicked…Our stuff is junk compared to the Russians, why would we even challenge such weapons?…We’re gonna lose every ship, sub and plane we have in the area and be the laughing stock of the world…

I really thought our military leaders would draw the line here, this is too risky. We could be looking at a nuclear war over what?

    • Pink Rabbit  September 3, 2013 at 9:08 pm

Maybe its the plan to get our ass kicked. Conspiracy theories about NWO and overpopulation antichrist etc. http://www.miraclesandinspiration.com/news_the-end-of-economic-slavery-has-arrived.html

    • BobT.  September 13, 2013 at 10:54 am

The US stuff is not “junk.” The threat is that neither Russia or the US has effective defenses against one another’s offensive weapons systems. Any limited (non-nuclear) war would be a war of attrition. When one has run out of decisive weapons they would have to sue for peace (capitulate/cry “uncle”).

The US used to be the world’s industrial powerhouse. Now much has moved to China, etc.

The US used to be protected by two “moats,” the Atlantic and the Pacific. Now they are only about 15 minutes wide.

King Obama could and would kill Syrians simply to save face. President of the most powerful country on earth or not, I find that near incomprehensible. Maybe he considers his reputation infinitely more important. What a world.

I haven’t heard anyone anywhere mention the idea of Russia stationing ground troops in Syria – making sure the world knows about it – as a deterrent against a U.S. attack. (Along with possible other nations.) (That’s troops, not advisors.) Any response on this? Too risky for Russian troops?

    • sandyhooked  September 3, 2013 at 8:42 pm

That’s an all-in strategy that they haven’t played yet. It would certainly be a deterrent.

Its always tempting to discuss hardware, but the real problems are the nutjob criminals who run things.

Amazingly, no one ever seems to target these nutjobs, nor does anyone bring them to justice. They just go on playing out their deviant fantasies.
If you want to know why the police state targets protests, rallies, and peaceful non-compliance, well here is the reason-so that no one will stand up against them when they pull the latest insane maneuver.

Anyone who thinks for even a moment that any further attack by our forces is on America’s behalf had better get their head examined.

Syria is kicking butt on the terrorist merceneries funded and supported by our corrupt leadership, and aided by Israeli nukes. Right now, I’ll bet you that every Russian field marshal worth his salt has war gamed this puppy to death, and they won’t be caught flat footed. They have strategy in place right now, and these missile deliveries prove it.

Putin isn’t an addled money grubbing pervert addicted to apocalyptic fantasies like our leaders are. The game of senseless destruction waged by the nutjobs is getting pretty tired, and Putin is making sure that nutjob agenda will come at a very high price.
One wonders if he has the criminal nutjobs in his sights as well.

Yeah, and if they can’t intimidate you, kill your wife and kid.

  5. sandyhooked  September 3, 2013 at 1:20 pm

The Fatima prophecies say Syria is the key to peace. It was repeated three times I think. What that means I don’t exactly know but I find it very interesting.

  6. sandyhooked  September 3, 2013 at 1:11 pm

Well Syria is quite dangerous for many reasons. They are quite dangerous to Israel too which is why they are trying to get us to fight them. Then there is Iran who has a mutual defense treaty with Syria and all their missiles which threaten both US bases and ships as well as Israel. Then you have Hezbollah who are quite dangerous to tangle with. You could drag out all the Palestinians fighters and even Egypt could attack Israel. Its the military in charge now not the MB. Are they Zionist inclined or not? So then we have real fight going. It’s quite dangerous. No one knows the outcome. I suspect both Syria and Iran have some hidden cards up their sleeve. An EMP attack or an attack on command and control (satellites) They didn’t just get lucky when they got that drone. The elephant in the room is really Russia. Just how far will they go. Personally I don’t want to find out. Putin is a smart man. Obama is not.

    • Excalibur  September 3, 2013 at 5:58 pm

Sandyhooked – logic tells me that any action against Syria will not go well for the west. Firstly – you can’t really blame or demonize those countries being targeted for immediately striking back. (In fact at the moment you couldn’t really blame them for striking first). Retaliation is obviously going to happen and is a ‘no-brainer’. Who knows what the casualty list or consequences of THAT will be!

Secondly – Russia, Iran, China, etc., all know that they will be singled out in the same way as Syria is being now sooner or later – by this group of international judaic gangsters. They will use the usual fabricated evidence and mass media lies – followed inevitably by planted ‘revolutionaries’, bombs and invasion. (Tactics not really changed much since the 1917 coup in Russia – or even the 17th Century ‘English Revolution’ and the ‘levelers’).

The allies of Syria, lets face it, are all stronger standing together. Waiting to be picked off one by one is the worst option they have. None of these nations have stupid leaders.

    • sandyhooked  September 3, 2013 at 8:40 pm

I don’t blame any country that doesn’t want to be a slave of the Zionist regime that really needs to be changed here at home.

  7. daquamarine  September 3, 2013 at 12:22 pm

Tomahawk cruise missiles have an average range of 1000 miles. That makes it very easy for USA to stand out of range of land basked yakhonts. Apparently, Syria has plenty of men ready to do suicide missions to get their ordnance within range to sink the ships. I will be happy to see none of this tested. I think the Iskanders can shoot tomahawks down. I just wonder if the iskander supply exceeds the tomahawk supply.

Report: US Attack On Syria to Begin Saturday

Does anyone know if there are other news reporting this?

  9. Pink Rabbit  September 3, 2013 at 9:48 am

Rush Limbaugh just announced that it seems Obama regime setup B Assad re 21 Aug chem weapons.

    • sandyhooked  September 3, 2013 at 8:39 pm

Well he is awfully late to the party. Seems to me a partisan attempt to blame Obama for everything and get Israel of the hook. We’ve seen that trick played before in the 9/11 truth movement. Soon the Zionist repubs in Congress will have the blame on their hands as well.

  10. jglassel.  September 3, 2013 at 9:38 am

The United States is clearly the bully in this situation.

We can however, back down through common sense, not fear.

MSM will paint this as loss of US credibility, deterrence and bravado. Who cares?

Russia will bloody our nose, we can destroy Syria, to what avail?

The rich get richer, while the poor die for their cause.

America, arise from your coffin, awaken from your sleep.

Feel the Christ within, forget about the Jew hanging on the cross, Christ is in each of us.

There is no tooth fairy god to save us from this mess. God has no plan for us other than what we create for ourselves!

Our future is what we make it. We can make our own matrix. we do not need DC.

Focus your inner Christ on DC. Expel the demons, therein.

    • sandyhooked  September 3, 2013 at 1:03 pm

Interesting comment which I agree with but in actuality Christ was not a Jew. Jew is a modern term made up in 17th England. Any reference to a Jew in the Bible actually means a Judahite or a member of the tribe of Judah. Yeshua (his real name) was a Nazarene. In the bible when it says the Jews sought to kill him it meant the Judahites, a tribe from the southern kingdom. If you know your history the two kingdoms never got along and constantly warred with each other. It is a common misunderstanding due to inaccurate bible translations.

The modern meaning of Jew – anyone who practices Judaism or was born in a family as such. Yeshua did follow the Pharisees and their religion. So in reality he was not a Jew on a cross. He was a man and quite free of the “leaven of the Pharisees.” He was the first Christian. He was not a Jew. It gets complicated as any thing involving the Jews does. Nothing is simple even in Israel today where yu have Zionists opposed by Hiradim and all their various factions.

    • michalslahor  September 3, 2013 at 10:38 pm

Christ was a Jew. Today’s Jews are Khazars. Read the DNA studies.

“When the United States strikes Syria …” STOP RIGHT THERE!
Why are the States being blamed for the actions of the District of Criminals?
You know, that 10 square mile independant city-state residing within OUR borders,
that wages warfare against us all every way possible, and hands us the bill for it!

All this CRAP, is commanded by the District of Criminals, not the USA, and WE are held hostage!

THEY fund the terrorist mercenaries that they tell us are “rebels”, they handed them the weapons, the training, and more by proxy, and THEY are pushing to punish Syria for their own false flag war crime!

These are the same SOB’s who treasonously sabotaged our real economy and ushered in a parasitic police state to clobber anyone who doesnt like it. The same SOB’s who are ruining our global reputation to MAKE THE USA into a target while they plan to hide in their friggin bunkers they make US pay for!

Yet no one dares arrest these criminal SOB’s–it’s pretty F’n amazing.

    • jglassel.  September 3, 2013 at 9:27 am

District of Criminals is more than willing to sacrifice one of our naval ships. If Syria doesn’t do it, they will do it themselves to make this look like self defense.

      DC needs to go.

Like most of us, I don’t have money for even a sign to protest this mess.

I have written Franken, Kloubachar and “go to hell” Michelle (Bachman) from my home district in MN.

All we have is brain power. Matrix movie says we are a volt and a half. Times 300 million, how can we use that power to zap DC into reality?

How to focus 450 million volts on them lying _________________?

At 0615 hrs GMT this morning israel launched two missiles from a ship in the Med. Russia immediately spotted it and reported it on the international news. Both missiles “Crashed into the sea”. At first israel completely denied doing it – then later (when they realised they could no longer deny it) said it was a ‘test firing’ in conjunction with the US Navy.

We have yet to see what the reality of this move is.

    • captain obvious  September 3, 2013 at 7:55 am

They are “test firing” against Syrian defenses maybe? No attempt at war to see there, right?

As if Izrahell can’t test their crap on their own turf like they have many times before.

    • joeflaherty  September 3, 2013 at 7:49 pm

The Israelis might be testing their equipment for an assault on one of America’s naval vessels. This would be similar to a USS Liberty, Part 2. The Zionist controlled western media would quickly lay blame on Syria or Russia. This would probably rile the American people up to support a war on Syria.

  13. Jim Fetzer  September 3, 2013 at 9:47 pm

This is very strange. The Russians had nothing to do with 9/11, which was an “inside job” involving collaboration between the neo-cons in the Department of Defense and the White House and the Mossad. If a missile hit the Pentagon, it most certainly was not of Russian origin.

  14. michalslahor  September 3, 2013 at 10:33 pm

p800 Onix is the Russian version of the Yakhont (export model), which is a generation newer than p700 Granit. Expect it to cut an Aircraft carrier in half, all depends on how hard Obama and Assad will butt heads. Hoping Obama does the right think and sends two tomahawks against a carpet store in Aleppo and leaves before his Navy gets sunk and shit will hit the fan.

  15. michalslahor  September 3, 2013 at 10:29 pm

Yes, the Granit’s were stolen at some point either on the Kursk or during the Wild Wild West Capitalism of Russia during the era of the Drunken Tsar.

  16. Jim Fetzer  September 4, 2013 at 6:41 am

All this talk about “limited strikes” is rubbish. Who could know that the first few are not going to be followed by more and more and more? The first cruise missile launched will be the start of WWIII.
