American Generals Stand between War and Peace

by  Wayne MADSEN (USA),  and Oriental Review …  for Veterans Today

The Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the United States, General Martin Dempsey, backed by his Joint Staff generals and admirals, stood between a hasty and knee-jerk President Obama who was intent on launching a military attack on Syria and a tenuous peace in the Middle East.
As of the evening of Friday, August 29, President Obama was on track to launch a sustained 72-hour cruise missile and drone attack on pre-selected air defense and other strategic military targets in Syria.

Obama had been convinced by his national security adviser Susan Rice, UN ambassador Samantha Power, and deputy national security adviser Ben Rhodes, all «Responsibility to Protect» advocates, that he could trump congressional approval for his attack by claiming that humanitarian operations do not require approval under the War Powers Resolution or Article I, Section 8 of the U.S. Constitution.Rhodes, who lacks any military experience, as is also the case with Rice and Power, is in his position because of his family ties. Rhodes’s brother, David Rhodes, formerly an executive with Fox News, is the president of CBS News.In addition, the brother of Obama’s special adviser, Dr. Elizabeth Sherwood-Randall, is Ben Sherwood, President of ABC News.syriakurd823Power is married to Obama’s former «information czar» Cass Sunstein, who developed methods to combat information unfriendly to the president through campaigns of «cognitive dissonance».Many of Washington’s insiders went to bed Friday night firmly convinced that Obama would give the final order to attack Syria sometime during the early Saturday morning hours of August 30. However, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Martin Dempsey, made a hurried trip to the White House during the early morning hours of Saturday to make one last final plea to hold off on any attack.Dempsey told Obama that the president’s military plan would not work. «If you do this, the plan will fail and you’ll get in deeper. And without congressional approval, you’ll be screwed,» Dempsey told Obama.Dempsey’s warning about Congress had merit. Already, 210 House members, Republicans and Democrats, signed a letter to Obama warning him not to attack Syria without congressional authorization.

At least temporarily, Dempsey’s argument prevailed and Obama decided to hold off on any attack until Congress reconvened after Labor Day. Obama decided he would seek a congressional vote to authorize a military strike on Syria. Administration officials, including Secretary of State John Kerry and Vice President Joe Biden, began arms twisting members of Congress to approve Obama’s military operation against Syria.

The Israeli Lobby organization, American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) weighed in with its considerable political heft to force members of Congress with whom its showers with campaign contributions, to fall in line behind Obama’s war plans.

During the evening of September 1, The New York Times initially reported Israeli involvement in lobbying Congress on its website: «One administration official, who, like others, declined to be identified discussing White House strategy, called AIPAC ‘the 800-pound gorilla in the room,’ and said its allies in Congress had to be saying, ‘If the White House is not capable of enforcing this red line’ against the catastrophic use of chemical weapons, ‘we’re in trouble’».

The newspaper quickly took down the report after it appeared in its web edition.

AIPAC’s financial largesse bestowed upon members of the U.S. Senate is witnessed by its chief recipients being the loudest supporters of military action against Syria. The second largest recipient of AIPAC money from 2006 to 2012 — $772,327 — is Arizona Republican Senator John McCain, who has been a champion of Syrian rebels, including the human organ-eating guerrillas of the Jabhat al Nusra, an Al Qaeda-affiliate.

Another major recipient of AIPAC cash is New Jersey Democratic Senator Robert Menendez who has rung up $343,394 in AIPAC donations. Menendez, the chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, was tasked by the Obama White House to shepherd its Syria attack resolution to final approval.

In temporarily overriding Rice, Power, Rhodes, and Kerry, who all favored a Labor Day weekend military strike, Dempsey incurred the wrath of the R2P faction that dominates the National Security Council. State Department sources began spreading the word that Obama would still attack Syria without congressional approval.

The Pentagon, on the other hand, pointed out that none of the National Security Council «heavies,» Rice, Power, or Rhodes, had any military experience and that Kerry was channeling the wishes of his good friend Senator John McCain, who has consistently supported Al Qaeda-led rebels in Syria and Libya.

Obama is faced with another grim reality. Some within the Pentagon ranks are so displeased with Obama’s policies on Syria, they have let certain members of Congress of both parties know that «smoking gun» proof exists that Obama and CIA director John O. Brennan personally authorized the transfer of arms and personnel from Al-Qaeda-linked Ansar al Sharia Islamist rebels in Libya to Syria’s Jabhat al Nusra rebels, who are also linked to Al Qaeda, in what amounts to an illegal «Iran-contra»-like scandal. The proof is said to be highly «impeachable».

Barack Obama and CIA Director John Brennan.

Barack Obama and CIA Director John Brennan.

When the documented proof is released that Obama and Brennan, the latter the point man who oversees operations involving Saudi intelligence chief Prince Bandar bin Sultan al Saud and Al Qaeda, were personally aware that arms from the caches of the late Muammar Qaddafi of Libya were transferred to Al Qaeda forces in Syria for use in terrorist attacks, there will be demands for impeachment hearings. The arms transfer was directly involved in the Libyan Islamist rebel attack on the CIA annex in Benghazi on September 11, 2012, an event from which Obama has not been able to extricate himself.

Bandar, who has been nicknamed «Bandar Bush» by members of the Bush family because of his close ties to them and «Bandar bin Israel» because of his close links to the Israeli intelligence agency Mossad, is the principal player in seeking the overthrow of the Bashar al Assad government in Damascus.

Bandar is carrying out a Saudi policy that would see the Syrian government replaced with a Sunni fundamentalist regime that would circumscribe the rights of Christians, Alawites, and Shi’as, essentially how Saudi Arabia today treats not Sunni Wahhabis within its borders.

One of the reasons why Obama and his cohorts have cracked down on whistleblowers in a manner unprecedented in recent U.S. history is to limit the fallout from military and intelligence professionals coming forth with details on how Obama, like his predecessor, has «cooked» the intelligence to pave the way to war.

In this case, White House intelligence charging Syria for using chemical weapons is solely based on dubious signals intercepts provided by Israel. Not only is intelligence on the rebels’ use of chemical weapons in Damascus and Homs, sarin gas in Damascus and chlorine gas in Homs, being suppressed but National Security Agency and British Government Communications Headquarters (GCHQ) intercepts from the Mount Troodos facility in Cyprus directly contradict signals intelligence by Israel’s Unit 8200 that purportedly show that Syrian army commanders ordered the sarin gas attack on Ghouta on August 21.

The White House finds itself relying on the use of propaganda and disinformation to stake its phony claims. The BBC has been caught using photographs of dead civilians in Iraq to show «victims» of Assad’s alleged chemical attack. Likewise, Al Jazeera, a conduit for the Muslim Brotherhood power brokers in Qatar has shown footage of «victims» of Assad’s government covered with fake bandages and Hollywood «blood».

Men and woman in U.S. military are acutely aware that Obama and his advisers are lying in order to get the U.S. involved in another quagmire in a Muslim nation. This time, the generals and admirals are standing with their ranks in opposing another Obama «war of choice» in support of Saudi Salafist expansion and Israeli regional imperialism.

Time is ripe for a military takeover of the thoroughly and chronically corrupt federal government

A bit of history: Back in 1954 when the French were encircled at Dien Bien Phu by the Viet Minh..a scheme was hatched to rescue them by USAF air strikes using tac nukes!!! It was called Operation Vulture
Here is how knowledgeable -combat vet senior military staff-people reacted:

“Several congressional leaders, including Senate Minority Leader Lyndon Johnson of Texas, spoke out against it. Army Chief of Staff Gen. Matthew Ridgway, a hero of the Korean War, and his Operations Chief, Gen. James M. Gavin, also advised against implementing Operation Vulture after sending a team of Army experts to Indochina to assess the French situation.

Ridgway called Operation Vulture “the old delusive idea that we could do things the cheap and easy way.” He also offered what turned out to be a prescient warning to President Eisenhower that air power alone would not defeat the Viet Minh. When “the day comes for me to face my Maker and account for my actions, the thing I would be most humbly proud of was the fact that I fought against, and perhaps contributed to preventing, the carrying out of some hare-brained tactical schemes which would have cost the lives of thousands of men,” Ridgway wrote in his memoir. “To that list of tragic accidents that fortunately never happened I would add the Indochina intervention [of 1954].”

I believe it will be up to the top military brass in the Pentagon to save us from WWIII. They should arrest each and every treasonous criminal in the Pentagon, White House and on Capitol Hill. Then, proceed with the FBI, DHS, CIA and on down the line. If it were so easy…

Great words Alwyn. Spoken from the heart – and some might say with the Divine assistance of the Holy Spirit. This is the true spirit of mind that made America great – and the fortitude of character within the pioneers that built the nation. America does not need to worry about where its new leaders will come from. Cometh the hour – cometh the man.

Regardless of your current opinion of Lyndon LaRouche, before he was incarcerated he was pretty brilliant. I’m about 1/2 through one of his 1978 papers entitled, “THE SECRETS KNOWN ONLY TO THE INNER ELITES.” I suggest you at least bookmark for later reading… laroucheplanet.info/pmwiki/pmwiki.php?n=Library.INNERELITES

In a nutshell, it appears that whole episodes of history have been either entirely misrepresented or are invented myths. I’m sure many here have seen evidence of this (U.S.S. Liberty, terrorism) or suspected as much. In his paper, LaRouche details specific myth-making going back as far as Aristotle. The lying has been so deliberate and consistent ever since, he refers to the current elite mindset as “Aristotelian.”

I was prompted to post this information because of previous comments speaking of the typical American mindset. It may seem too late to wake them up, and that speaks to what waking them up will likely require. Convincing them of the Syria deception may be too microscopic. For some or most, they may need to see the deceptions on a macroscopic scale before being able to frame these current events within their distorted world view.

It’s possible that, if we pull back and learn more about the Aristotelian tactics used ever since his time, we might at least develop more convincing arguments regarding our current situation. But, since time is short just spread this photo around… theblaze.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/kerry-assad-dinner.jpg

—-Obama’s “Women” Musketeers—-Clinton, Rice & Power–Who told Obama to go to war with Libya. After spending over Trillion China? /USA taxpayers dollaers, NO OIL and Libya is worse than we went in.

—Once again, Hilary Clinton called Politico reporters late Friday night so it won’t be on the Media, and said she wants Obama to go to war with Syria. Well, you know her daughter is married to a Zionist family.

    —-WHO WILL FORGET THIS—

2008 Election–(CNN)—– “Sen. Hillary Clinton said she “misspoke” last week when she gave a dramatic description of her arrival in Bosnia 12 years ago, recounting a landing under sniper fire.”

Clinton was responding to a question Monday from the Philadelphia Daily News’ editorial board about video footage of the event that contradicted her assertion that her group “ran with our heads down” from the plane to avoid sniper fire at the Tuzla Air Base.”

2008 Election—-(ABC’s “Good Morning America”) ——“Sen. Hillary Clinton said I want the Iranians to know that if I’m the president, we will attack Iran [if it attacked Israel],” Clinton said. “In the next 10 years, during which they might foolishly consider launching an attack on Israel, we would be able to totally obliterate them.”

—One does not have to be a military war planner or even a corrupt politician to know with some common sense, that “THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS LIMITED ATTACK, ESPECIALLY, IN THE 21st CENTURY” EVEN THOUGH, JUST BECAUSE ONE GETS LUCKY ONCE IN A WHILE.”

Of course McCain supports the cannibal al Nusra, McCain is a cannibal himself. All zombies are cannibals. I really don’t see how giving arms to Al Qaeda is an impeachable offense when we are talking about leveling Syria in support of Al Qaeda. If general Dempsey ever does what he has to do I would pledge my allegiance to him. People in the armed services are not stupid. He would have plenty of backing. I have not considered Obama my president since Rupert Murdoch ran a cartoon of him right after he signed the stimulus bill depicting Obama as a berserk chimp gunned down by police in the street. The caption over the cop holding a smoking gun read I wonder who they’ll get to sign the next stimulus. What Obama should have done was an imitation of Hitler arresting Rohm at pistol point but Obama did nothing proving that he is no Commander and Chief. The job is open!

Gordon: In brutal clarity I wrote the White House and pertinent people that what people and even the generals worry about, and Petraeus made it clear that Israel interference cause death of our soldiers. Again brutally stated, what we are worried about in Syria is not let it that brute know what we think BUT,as usual we are conerned what False Flag or USS Liberty or Lebanon barrack, Saudi Amassador etc etc, the Neo Con ‘Bomb Bomb Bomb Irah Mc Cain, and of coruse Bibi and his pals might do to cause us to respond and bring abaut the all out War they want so badly.
I also resent all those blabbers who never blead, teling us it is our responsibily to do something. We did not ask for the job body get off our back and grab your gun. .
I intend to keep on passing the info urging the anti total war ,change regime to use USS LIberty ,ask those fellow how those slimy methods work. So, lets pass the ammunitions to those who are coming aboard.

    Gordon,

Gordon, What we need is leadership from you guys. Give us some directive on things we can do as we are able. I have called the White House, my two U. S. Senators office, my district U. S. Representative’s office asking them to oppose striking Syria. I have commented on Facebook in opposition to bombing Syria and Iran, and probably have turned some against me because I live in a RED Republican state who mostly admire the Tea Party and the likes of Sarah Palin and John Hagee. Now it seems we are down to the “nut cutting” and those things are not enough. So, some suggestions please. Thanks.

    • Paul Revere in WI  September 4, 2013 at 5:29 pm

I think Sarah Palin is starting to wake up herself.

    G,
If the President is getting bad advice from his R2P advisors, perhaps it’s time to replace them with experienced people.

  13. WonderingAloud  September 4, 2013 at 3:35 pm

This really does appear to be a showdown between the American (loyal) Military, the American Public and those who would shatter the Middle East to protect “the realm.” The roar of refusal from the American Public on Syria has not hit its crescendo yet… we’ll see how the week goes in Congress.

I do wonder if this has been played the way it has to defy the wishes of Israel and “back down” on Syria in a non-obvious way. If so, good move.

Congress needs to man-up and show the world that America still wears the pants in the Israel-American “everlasting friendship.” Seriously, for less than $400,000 that fool Menedez can be bought?? That’s cheap.

Anyone remember the NDAA? Our own US government has violated this by supporting terrorists in Syria. Furthermore, EVERYONE knows it and willingly admits it!!!!! So what’s the holdup? Arrests should be being made as I type! It is beyond surreal that they think they can get away with this treasonous an unlawful support right in our faces. Arrest them NOW!

  16. Mopar21277  September 4, 2013 at 1:28 pm

Dr. Barrett posted an article over the weekend titled “Obama’s JFK Moment,” this is his “Bay of Pigs” moment for sure. Rather than being misled by the JCS, he let himself become a stooge to the zionists by being boxed-in by that stupid Red-Line crap. He needs to trust in General Dempsey, pull back and take one in the shorts for the sake of the nation and frankly, for the world.

ZBig who was warning for caution, has come out and said that a strike is necessary to save face on the world stage. WTF is wrong with people? There is no element of surprise, all a strike will do is to kill a bunch of innocent people and further enflame the strategic situation.

    • Paul Revere in WI  September 4, 2013 at 2:00 pm

It will be interesting to see what happens to Obama if he ultimately decides against military intervention in Syria. Will he get “JFK’d”?

    • Excalibur  September 4, 2013 at 3:51 pm

Paul – I very much doubt that he will be deciding anything Paul. That is done by somebody else. They only require a thespian for the part of ‘President’.

    • DaveE  September 4, 2013 at 4:04 pm

That means “actor” for all you brain-dead Americans out there.

    • Paul Revere in WI  September 4, 2013 at 4:57 pm

DaveE – No shit? You don’t think I realize that? Quit being part of the problem and try being part of the solution. Quit talking down to people and try talking TO people instead.

    • DaveE  September 4, 2013 at 5:42 pm

It was a joke, of sorts. I’ve spent most of my free time TALKING to people over the last ten years about the zionist problem. At some, you gotta say wtf.

  17. Preston James, Ph.D  September 4, 2013 at 12:18 pm

Yes, looks like both the zio political pacs and the current administration are collapsing under their own massive corruption. The worldwide Internet has certainly provided this exposure in spades and it looks like they are all going to be thrown under the bus (Bibi’s biggest fear, always on his mind and what he seems unable to stop provoking for his regime). Hopefully we have new new real American heroes in the high military command who are not traitors like the few JCS and the USAF Generals who engineered the 911 attacks with Israel and neoCons. Want the names, just check the records and bios, very easy to figure out who the actual perps were, and none have been brought to justice yet, but that is coming in the not too distant future. If they had souls left they would arrest themselves and report to the nearest US Magistrate, but alas they all appear to have the Cosmic parasite which stole their souls making them criminal psychopaths.

    • Paul Revere in WI  September 4, 2013 at 1:43 pm

I personally cannot wait for all the 9/11 perps to be rounded up and tried for treason.

    • Worker Bee  September 4, 2013 at 8:48 pm

And all the false progressives/liberals, “Christian” Zionists, as well as the US/Israeli dual-citizens who have been shouting “ANTISEMITE! ANTISEMITE!” all these years need to be rounded up and put in concentration camps for “re-education”.

The wheat is beginning to separate from the tare, as the Generals find a way toward peace.

  19. Cold Wind  September 4, 2013 at 12:06 pm

I think it has come down to whether the US Military will follow illegal, unconstitutional and immoral orders. They have a choice to make. Will they arrest the President and act to restore the Republic and in doing so take us from the brink? Right now, it appears the President and coterie of Zionist’s putchists, are going to do it, take us down that road to perdition and hell. I say to Dempsey and the Generals: courage! Syria cannot be allowed to happen!

    • Pauly Paul Reina  September 4, 2013 at 2:10 pm

How is Syria any MORE unconstitutional, illegal, immoral than Iraq, Afghanistan and Libya were?
These generals aren’t going to do jack sh&t.

    • Cold Wind  September 4, 2013 at 6:13 pm

Appealing to Dempsey, who has shown some modicum of wisdom in this matter, and to that part of the US Military that might feel they still owe allegiance to the people of this nation, to the Constitution to which they swore an oath and who understand in their hearts the President (like his predecessor George Bush) is lying to start a war, is, given the current circumstances (ships and missiles rushing to the Middle East), our only and perhaps last hope in avoiding a general world catastrophe. This Administration is illegitimate and worse dangerous to the world and to its own citizens! If it survives, we die. Period. The President must be arrested, the planned attack on Syria stopped! Only the Military can do that. Everybody: COURAGE!

    • Excalibur  September 4, 2013 at 3:46 pm

I have to agree with you Cold Wind. It is also very important to recognise a vital legal point here – which is that any senior military officers removing the current administration from office will NOT be committing any kind of offence. They will merely be rightfully implementing the oath that they have already sworn – and returning the proper administration of the American Constitution. It would NOT be a coup d’etat – it would thwart a coup d’etat.

Neither should they be concerned about any recent or new legislation that has been unlawfully incepted by the criminal cabal conspiracy ITSELF – because all those false ‘laws’ of their convenience will need to be repealed and struck off – right back to a time before their infiltration and subversive action.

If America, led by its military commanders, is able to intervene and correct this intolerable situation by removing the criminal usurpers – it will indeed prove itself to be the most wonderful nation and system on Earth. Failure to intervene and remove the zio-cabal will lead to utter disaster. The same disaster trail that the zios ALWAYS leave behind them as they hop away to their next host.

    • DaveE  September 4, 2013 at 5:50 pm

You would know better than I would, Ex, but doesn’t Revelations talk about a great country going down without a shot being fired?

If so, sounds like “we’re it.”

    • maria  September 4, 2013 at 2:57 pm

      That’s a lot of people.
With Bandar Bush in the picture I wonder what the Bushes have been whispering in his ear.
I am sure they are on the side whatever Bandar is doing.
No more weapons to the rebels and no more weapons to Assad, unfortunately that will never happen, so the killing will keep on going.
Strikes from the USA more killings.
