On August 10th 1961, the US Air force began spraying chemicals over Vietnam . Several events will take place this year to mark the fiftieth anniversary of that dreadful act.

The Viet Nam Association for Victims of Agent Orange (VAVA) yesterday called on people across the country and international friends to further support Agent Orange victims in their daily lives and fight for justice.

After their product Agent Orange has crippled millions of lives in Vietnam from the Vietnam War and onward, the US producers have continued to avoid taking responsibility and blame it on the US government instead.

The National Research Foundation is investigating allegations the Army tested Agent Orange decades ago at Fort Detrick. The Maryland Department of Health has already begun its own investigation.

In the late 1960s, James Spencer was a United States Navy longshoreman on Okinawa’s military docks. “During this time, we handled all kinds of cargo, including these barrels with orange stripes on them. When we unloaded them, they’d leak and the Agent Orange would get all over us. It was as if it were raining.”
As I look back at some of the world’s military leaders and heroes, one that we cannot of course forget is General Vo Nguyen Giap. I understand his book “General Vo Nguyen Giap: The General Headquarters in the Spring of Brilliant Victory”has been translated to English. We might have/should have learned some lessons from Giap – and is perhaps more pertinent today as we slowly but steadily encroach on more and more sovereign territory throughout the world.
Mexico – Mexico’s Agriculture Ministry has approved the country’s first pilot program for growing genetically-modified (GM) corn, a controversial move that small farmers and environmental groups see as an attack on the highly valued native strains.
