If you were harmed by asbestos exposure, for example, in ships or military housing, contact Weitz & Luxenberg to get a free case review.
Important Information for Veterans: Asbestos products were often used on military ships and within military housing, and Veterans may have been exposed. Major League Baseball to support Welcome Back Veterans in Honor of July 4th Holiday
Major League Baseball will once again honor veterans throughout the nation during the July 4th holiday weekend as part of its second year of national fundraising and awareness initiatives for Welcome Back Veterans, a program which addresses the mental health and job needs of returning American Veterans.
As with the games on Memorial Day earlier this year, all Major League Baseball Clubs will wear special "Stars & Stripes" caps on Saturday and Sunday, July 4th and 5th. The caps have the American flag etched into the team's logo and are red in color (the Toronto Blue Jays hat incorporates a Maple Leaf design instead of the "Stars & Stripes"). Read More>
Shelly Parulis, wife of a retired Marine Master Sergeant, is engaged in a running battle with the Navy over dioxin and other toxins at NAF Atsugi, Japan.
(Atsugi, Japan) - No one assigned to Naval Air Facility (NAF) Atsugi, the home of Carrier Air Wing 5, would have suspected that duty in Japan could exposed them to toxic chemicals, including deadly dioxin, the carcinogen infamously associated with Agent Orange. (See: http://www.youtube.com/user/ToxicDeceit)
In fact, prior to the closure of Atsugi’s privately owned Envirotech (formerly Shinkampo) incinerators in 2001, that is exactly what happened to military, dependents, and civilian workers stationed at NAF Atsugi during the period 1985 to 2001.
Special Report: HELP NEEDED: WE HAVE LOST 2 WORLD WAR I AIRPLANES, NO I AM NOT KIDDING
LOCAL MUSEUM IN TOLEDO OHIO HAS MISPLACED 2 ACTUAL AIRCRAFT
HELP US LOCATE THESE MISSING PLANES
By Gordon Duff STAFF WRITER
In association with Congressional Representative Marcy Kaptur, local museums, veterans groups, the Smithsonian, the Tennessee Historical Society, the Toledo Museum of Art, the Medal of Honor Society and other museums and groups around the country, we ask for you help.
I know we are stretching the limits of "carelessness." This isn't like losing your keys but we are now missing 2 entire aircraft, last seen hanging from the ceiling of a former local military/veterans museum, then stored for the reopening.
These items are to be considered for display in the new VA Regional Medical Center connected to the University of Toledo School of Medicine. We are deeply embarassed. We have already started a search for our missing Medals of Honor, also misplaced somewhere.
MORE MISSING:
Our list, thus far, includes 6500 guns, flags, medals, uniforms up to and including a gattling gun, hundreds of muskets (guns) and several famous paintings by artists like Gilbert Gaul and Carolyn Ransom. All are the property of the local museum authority and were lost in transit somewhere.
IF YOU HAVE INFORMATION PLEASE CONTACT: Gordon Duff gpduf@aol.com or Dan Foote dan.foote@mail.house.gov . Ohio veterans are grateful for your help on this project.

Here is some background information on the First and Second Continental Congresses that led up to the Declaration of Independence and our eventual rebellious war with Britain, which of course led to independence. Features: Are You Ready? - A Book About Surviving a Stroke by U.S. Army Veteran Phillip Hanaburgh
Army Veteran publishes book about stroke
On May 23, 2007, author Philip R. Hanaburgh, a U.S. Army Veteran, suffered a stroke that left him unable to use his left side. In his moving and inspirational memoir, Are You Ready?, he offers advice, practical wisdom, and tips for anyone going through any sort of devastating medical episode, particularly a stroke.
Realizing that the market is filled with medical books about strokes, Hanaburgh seeks to reach readers on a more spiritual level, intimating that terrible experiences that force us to confront our mortality and death can actually lead us into richer, fuller lives. Warmly written, Are You Ready? is a testament to the indomitable spirit of one courageous man.
A Book About Surviving a Stroke
Strokes, silent and deadly interruptions of the blood supply to the brain, come without warning. Would you be ready if you were suddenly felled by one? Author and stroke victim Philip R. Hanaburgh certainly wasn't. Just fifty years old, he was a contented family man with a good job, when he had a stroke that left him without the use of his left side. Rushed to the hospital in a helicopter, Hanaburgh endured a long recovery period, but soon realized that love, deep faith, and inner strength could help him survive and even triumph over this adversity.
Special Report: Veterans Demand Regime Change at the Largest VA in the Nation
VA-SPYGATE
STOP THE SPYING AND LYING!
By Robert L. Rosebrock, Staff Writer
History reminds us that it's not the initial crime but the cover-up attempt that becomes the real crime.
And so it is with the VA's infamous June 28th spying debacle on innocent World War II, Korean and Vietnam War Veterans who peacefully demonstrate against the pillaging and plundering of their sacred land at the Los Angeles National Veterans Home, which is the largest VA Medical Center in the nation.
Just the Facts On Monday, June 29, a group from Sunday's Rally met with Donna Beiter, the executive director, Ralph Tillman, the asset manager and director of public affairs, and Sgt. Lofty, the VA police watch commander, all federal employees at the West Los Angeles VA Medical Center.
Special Report: Attention President Obama: Who Issued the Order to Spy on America's Veterans?
VA-SPYGATE
by Bob Rosebrock, Staff Writer
The federal government's surveillance van that was parked within 100 feet of the 67th consecutive Sunday Rally to “Save Our Veterans Land” on June 28th, was an affront to every American Veteran and a mockery against our U.S. Constitution and the American way of life.
Fellow Veterans have repeatedly requested for regime change at the West Los Angeles VA Medical Healthcare Center. These federal bureaucrats have insulted and transgressed against America's Veterans for the very last time.
These insults and transgressions now rest squarely upon your shoulders.
Opinion: OBAMA HAS NO LEGAL AUTHORITY TO ESCALATE AFGHAN WAR AND IS CREATING “HUMANITARIAN CATASTROPHE” IN PAKISTAN
Obama Has No Legal Authority To Escalate Afghan War, International Lawyer Says
By Sherwood Ross, Staff Writer
President Obama has no legal authority either from the United Nations or the U.S. Congress under the War Powers Resolution(WPR) to escalate the war in Afghanistan, a distinguished professor of international law says.
“President Obama’s surge of 21,000 troops now engaged in combat in Afghanistan comes on top of the 60,000 we already had there,” says Francis Boyle, professor of international law at the University of Illinois College of Law at Champaign.

JULY 4TH MUSINGS
By Thomas Barnes
On July Fourth 1776 our nation was born. Most of the signers to the Declaration of Independence from Britain had affixed their signatures to that document at the Colony of Pennsylvania Assembly House in Philadelphia. It is now called Independence Hall. A new chance at democracy was stirring in colonial hearts.
American merchants, landed gentry, wealty farmers and the politically connected were in town to talk treason. If they failed, they would hang. If they were victorious...they would have....well, nobody knew exactly what they would have. It was an open gamble on all levels. But they placed their signatures on that document and sealed their fates. They would either win or hang. And those that followed them on the day in Philadelphia would lose King and country and possibly their lives if they failed in this rebellion.
News: N.J. judge rules blogger not protected by newspaper shield laws, can be sued for slander
"Courts are now being faced with the task of evaluating a virtually limitless number of people who claim to be 'reporting' on issues, but who are, many times, doing little more than shouting from atop a digital soapbox,"
A judge in Freehold ruled today that a Washington State blogger who posted comments about the pornography industry is not covered by shield laws that protect newspaper reporters and can be sued for defamation.
"To say that everybody who blogs and is entitled to the shield nullifies what it's there for,He understood the internet is just another means of communication. It doesn't mean you can communicate anything you want-horrible things without checking them out."
Opinion: Escalating Afghan War Will Destroy Obama Presidency, Law School Dean Warns
by Sherwood Ross, Staff Writer
Escalating the war in Afghanistan will destroy the Obama presidency “almost as surely as (Viet) Nam and Iraq destroyed Johnson’s, Nixon’s and Bush II’s,” a noted law dean warns.
Obama “seems to be drinking the same Kool Aid that was drunk by, and destroyed the presidencies” of those predecessors, writes Lawrence Velvel, dean of the Massachusetts School of Law at Andover.
Obama’s policy of striking on the Afghan “central front” to thwart terrorist attacks in their sanctuary while rebuilding roads and providing electricity “is all very reminiscent of ---in parts identical to---Johnson’s and Nixon’s statements about Nam, Nixon’s about Cambodia (a claimed sanctuary for planning and refitting), and Bush II’s about Iraq,” Velvel recalls.

"From: Tillman, Ralph D xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: Incident on June 28, 2009 To: xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Date: Tuesday, June 30, 2009, 2:01 PM
Commander Martin: It was a pleasure meeting with you yesterday. We appreciate your willingness to bring to our attention an incident that concerned you. As requested, we have reviewed the incident over the weekend including a review of police reports and discussions with the officers involved. We, once again, confirm that surveillance activities were occurring during the weekend, primarily due the Iranian election protest adjacent to our property.
(EDITORS NOTE: NOT ADJACENT/HALF A MILE AWAY) As you can imagine, the first and foremost responsibility for our VA police is to assure the safety and well being of the veterans and staff that are on our campus.(SPYING ON PTSD PATIENTS?) The situation with the demonstration at the Federal Building was potentially very serious. (DEMONSTATORS WERE PRO-AMERICAN ACTIVISTS) When the car you were riding in drove across the grass in an aggressive manner and your group confronted our police officer (DRESSED AS A GARDENER AND CARRYING A RAKE AND SHOVEL), we had no way to ascertain what your intentions were. (GARDENING ADVICE?)The response from the officer in the surveillance van(?????)and the subsequent responding officers was very measured(ILLEGALLY DETAINING VETERANS GROUP LEADERS ON VETERANS LAND) and appropriate considering the situation as it unfolded. However, we do regret any inconvenience this may have caused.(ILLEGAL SPYING AND DETENTION IS "INCONVENIENCE?") Please know that our goal is the meet the needs of our veterans. If I can be of further service, please do not hesitate to call. Ralph Tillman/Acting Chief Public Communications/DVA"
HOWEVER:
THE IRANIANS BEING WATCHED WERE ACTUALLY AMERICAN VETERANS NOWHERE NEAR THE PRO-DEMOCRACY PROTESTS
THE VA LATER ADMITTED TILLMANS STATEMENT NOT ACCURATE - SPYING WAS ON VETS
HOW DO WE TELL WHO ARE LEGITMATE VA EMPLOYEES WHEN GROUNDS KEEPERS ARE POLICE SPIES AND DELIVERY VEHICLES ARE BORROWED FROM HOMELAND SECURITY? THINK ABOUT THIS FOR A MINUTE...
Special Report: PROJECT SALUTE: On-line Attorney Training for VA Certification July 23 and 24th , 2009
This is a follow-up to my previous article,LIST OF ATTORNEYS FOR VETERANS SEEKING VA BENEFITS. We have learned here at Veterans Today that the supply of lawyers certified by the VA to represent Veterans can hardly keep up with the increasing demand for services, especially from the youngest generation of Vets returning from Iraq and Afghanistan. However, there is a shortage of lawyers familiar with Veterans Law across the board. In an attempt to encourage attorneys, especially lawyers willing to accept pro bono services for Veterans, several law schools have begun offering training sessions leading to VA certification.
The increasing demand for Veterans Law Attorneys
Veterans' law deals with certain special rights that veterans are entitled to as a result of their service in the armed forces. The Executive Branch of the United States government created the Department of Veterans Affairs to administer and enforce these laws. Most of the laws that apply especially to veterans deal with retirement, disability, healthcare, vocational and educational services, and death benefits for dependents of veterans. Veterans' law is a very specific and detailed area of the law, and more complex and difficult issues than those listed above are likely to arise. However, to offset this complexity the Department of Veterans Affairs is accessible to veterans, and attorneys making information regarding important aspects of veterans' law easily attainable if one knows where to look.
The majority of the rules and regulations addressing aspects of Veterans law can be found in Title 38 of the United States Code. All of the laws under this title are administered by the Department of Veterans Affairs, its officers and subsidiary departments. Due to the complex and specialized nature of veterans' law, attorneys who practice it must have their qualifications approved by the Secretary of the Department of Veterans Affairs.
When attorney training and VA certification opportunities arise, we will attempt to spread the word throughout the legal community through Bar Associations, and attorney blogs and forums, such as the Justice News Ladders.

First women to fly American military aircraft served courageously, blazed trails during WWII
WASHINGTON – President Obama today signed into law S. 614, a bill to award a Congressional Gold Medal to the Women Airforce Service Pilots (WASP). WASP was established during World War II with the primary mission of flying non-combat military missions in the United States thus freeing their male counterparts for combat missions. Its pilots were the first women ever to fly American military aircraft and flew almost every type of aircraft operated by the United States Army Air Force during World War II on a wide range of missions.
