Hundreds of thousands of servicemen were exposed to asbestos over decades, especially during the period from 1940 to 1980.  Asbestos was used in construction of naval vessels as well as shore facilities.  All branches of the military used asbestos, which was also widely used in civilian applications.  Asbestos can cause mesothelioma.  Because this cancer has a particularly long latency period, many servicemen who were exposed years ago are now developing this disease.

GANG RAPE LEGISLATION NIXED BY 30 GOP'ers

DEFENSE CONTRACTORS BUY SENATE VOTES

By Gordon Duff STAFF WRITER/Senior Editor

Is it this plain?  Are the facts this clear?  Did 30 Republicans vote to allow defense contractors protection if their employees are raped, drugged and imprisoned?  Haliburton/KBR, the "Dick" Cheney company did exactly this, locked a rape victim in a box, drugged her and kept her prisoner.

68 Senators, every single Democrat and some Republicans, voted to allow defense contractors whose employees are sexually assaulted be taken to court.  Robert Kennedy Jr. and Mike Papantonio describe their take on opposition to the Rape Protection bill.

"I checked to make sure that the 30 Republican Senators who voted against Jamie Leigh Jones' anti-rape bill two weeks ago had wives and daughters. Most of them did. But their love for defense contractor PAC money is obviously greater than their love even for their own daughters. The Senate bill was simple to follow: if a contractor like KBR has an employee who is sexually assaulted on the job, that employee has a right to have a jury hear and decide the facts of the case. If the contractor denies the victim that right, then the U.S. government won't do business with that contractor. In 2005, Jones, a KBR employee, was gang-raped in Iraq by KBR workers. After she was gang-raped, KBR security held her prisoner inside a 5' x 6' shipping container to make sure she kept her mouth shut.

The vote to enact the bill was 68 to 30. Go to the website Republicans For Rape, and you can see the list of those 30 GOP leaders who voted against offering justice to victims like Jamie. They argued that it is too harsh to force a valued defense contractor like KBR or Haliburton to appear in front of a civil jury to face outraged and repulsed fathers, mothers, and sisters when stories like Jamie's are told. What those 30 all-male, all-Republican Senators would prefer is that Jamie and victims like her would be raped again by KBR by appearing in a closed door, secretive, arbitration hearing where no one would hear the details of the assault.

goprape_320It's worth mentioning that Jamie was also drugged while she was held captive by KBR management employees in that shipping crate so no one would hear her cries to be allowed to simply go home to her family. The drugs were supposed to keep her quiet in the same way that the KBR good ol' boy corporate arbitration panel would keep the details of this disgusting story quiet.

The GOP Senate leaders were not in the dark about the details of Jamie's rape. They knew she had been repeatedly sodomized and that her body was so torn up that she needed reconstructive plastic surgery. They knew that KBR's own security force held Jamie as a prisoner after the rape,  denying her food and medical treatment.

And we are aware of how at least a couple of those 30 GOP leaders regard women. Louisiana Senator David Vitter had a “stable” of female prostitutes at his beck and call when he wanted female companionship. John Ensign had his wife and at least one girlfriend around when he wanted the company of a woman. Women were at the top of mind for those two GOP leaders mostly out of convenience. But stories like the Jamie Leigh story are never convenient. We have to hear them, and the people responsible for that evil need to be held accountable in courtrooms instead of getting closed-door, corporate arbitration hearings where a victim's chances to obtain justice are over at hello.

We want to believe that some corporate money is sometimes too expensive even for politicians, but the Jamie Leigh Jones story has again proved us wrong."

The incident described is not a "one time" thing.  Hundreds of contractors working for Blackwater, KRB and other US companies have been sexually assaulted, many of them men.  With established company policies that promote this kind of behavior, it had to be expected.

Jamie survived.  There are stories floating around that others who complained of being raped simply disappeared mysteriously, supposedly kidnapped or died by friendly fire.

duffsterWhen the companies involved are controlled by the highest echeons of the ruling political party, operate unsupervised, unanswerable to any power for any reason, corruption, waste, poisoned water sold to troops, or causing the deaths of dozens of Marines due to getting into total screwups like Blackwater in Fallujah, someone needs to pay with more than money, jail time is due.

our U.S. Senators have been raping our U.S. Militiary Veterans for years what is the difference now.
Losing ones mind 10-30-09
Peter Macdonald 465 Packers falls rd Lee NH 03824 603-659-6217
Yesterday was a bad day. It started of well as everything fit into place as I sent out my letter on Religion. In the afternoon while watching a UNH women Hockey game the sounds around me became distant and it was like I was watching a live game where nothing fit. It was like I was in an echo chamber where the sound was muffled and my vision had all objects seen as if moving slightly in and out. In and out the objects moved not of focus but as if getting closer and further away. I witnessed disabled fans guided by helpers as if a stroke community was spending a day at the game. My mind became depressed as it drifted to the Veterans stuck in hospitals and (if there could be a place less fit for humans) else where disabled and living a less than human life. My daughter asked and we went on a walk around the ice as the break between the 1st and 2nd periods started. It was a strange journey as I lagged behind and stopped for a cup of coffee to sit in silence as the others did another lap. I write about this today because all last night my journey back never ended. I remember nothing else of the day or night. I sit here today as if in a fog where the same bad day just replays interrupted by journeys back to my tour as a U.S. Marine.
You need medical help is the answer that the crowds of people sing. It is not I that needs your help. It is the thousands of today’s returning U.S. Military that cannot be left to linger on a life people back in the world (US) cannot see. Veterans of all the past war and conflicts have had the public support in voice only. Great medical faculties and centers have been built for a politician to find a place for their name to be placed depriving the veteran of care because all the money is gone. Our voice has been taken as words society does not want to hear are pictured coming from a veteran not quite here. Freedom of speech is only for those saying what the right people deem as correct. Veterans are jailed because society does not recognize disabilities that cloud the mind of a place no one should go. My life is gone but medical help has to be more than a song for those of today that gave so that your voice is free to sing that what you chose.
You see the world through my eyes, yet no one can hear me. I hear stories and see U.S. Military Veterans tormented by the same silent demons but do I really exist. Can the VA stop a veteran’s medical as the community witnesses the crime and stays silent? I am a veteran that is not here so my freedom of speech does not exist. Newspapers across the U.S. do not believe the words of veterans are worthy of printing as they may conflict with society’s harmony. I am a U.S. Marine Sgt that wants so bad to jump out of this benjo ditch and be dominated my enemy fire just to end life. If life back in the world is like everyone tells me why do they send us to a place like this?

Of the 100s of stories posted on these two wars, this rape story is the most repulsive, offensive act described. Thanks for bringing this to everyone's attention.

Ms. Leigh Jones has supporters and well-wishers from all at Veterans Today. Our thoughts are with you.

You are an incredible, strong and courageous person.

Gordon Duff and VT, thank you for your courageous and unflinching reporting, while maintaining dignity and respect for the people that need help having their story told.

    Josh,

    Good to see you onboard.

"Veterans Today, Military Veterans and Foreign Affairs Journal"

The rape at issue happened in Iraq.  The rapists were veterans working for a military contractor.

That this seems ok with you makes me wonder if you shouldn't be on a list of some kind that requires you to live a a certain distance from schools.

So any event that happens in Iraq, or if it involves a veteran becomes a "veteran's issue? Those are pretty loose requirements. By that standard everytime I use the can, I should write an article for the site...as it was an event done by a veteran. Please, anyone with 2 functioning braincells can see that the sole purpose of this article was for Republican bashing, just like all your other articles. You can dress it up all you want and try to justify it, but the site is just a liberal sounding board. I would wager the vast majority of your regular readers never srved a day in their lives. I know you have your frequent writers who fall at the Duff alter to tell you how intelligent you are and kiss your feet, but they are just sad. I still find the site one of the best entertainment sites around.

josh: I resent you calling those 30 assh*&ls republicans after all aren't republicans are for family values?......then these 30 must be for the manson family values. How about you ,you think we should keep on paying a military contractor for rape?

  • By Josh on 2009-11-03 12:09:31
I never stated the rapists were Republicans. Read before you type. The article wasn't about the rapists, the article was about the 30 Republican Senators. read carefully before you get your undies in a bunch.

  • By CWO4 Gourley Usa Ret. on 2009-11-03 12:54:50
No Josh you support the republicans that support the rapists and that is a accessory after the fact.......... You let politics get in the way of what is right and it makes you no better than the 30 who are no better than the actual rapists.

  • By Josh on 2009-11-03 13:12:59
CWO4 Gourley, I am going to lay this out nice and simple, as you seem to be having trouble grasping. My whole contention is that this article has nothing to do with veteran's issues. It was printed merely as a political "hack" piece. The editors and writers of this site are far left-leaning individuals and have no problems wrapping their political agendas in a cloak of "veteran's issues". Never once did I condone the rape or the vote, nor did I give it a negative response. I understand folks getting angry over rape. Who in their right mind would not be repulsed by the crime, however, it has NOTHING to do with veterans. It was nothing but another opportunity for Gordon to try and besmirch conservatives. I hope this sheds some light for you, if it doesn't I can try again with crayons.

  • By CWO4 Gourley Usa Ret. on 2009-11-03 13:40:22
Josh : The use of contractors in iraq and afganistan are veterans issues. If you had been able to watch what went on and how these companies ripped off the american tax payer as I have then you might be less inclined to go the party line. ..................The fact that most were leading " republicans" is why they were singled out .you seem to think the the author has it out for republicans "Please, anyone with 2 functioning braincells can see that the sole purpose of this article was for Republican bashing" If these people that put corporate Communism ahead of doing what is right for the country, Then I to will bash them ( I would prefer a vertical butt stroke, but talk is legal ) as should you ............To not vote to cut off this company from the tax payer teat let alone let the woman sue is criminal!........................ Btw have you heard about this on fox, NO? why not ?

  • By Josh on 2009-11-03 16:53:56
CWO4 Gourley, So you are in support of companies being held liabel for every action of its' employees? Where does it end? This was a criminal act that should be handled by criminal courts. Our society has gotten so litigious it makes me sick. You speak with such high moral standing about the 30 Senators being on the dole from contactors, what of the supporters of this bill that supported merely to appease the trial lawyer lobbists? What has our society come to when you can sue at the drop of a hat? The company is NOT accountable, the individual is. Folks need to man up and start taking personnel responsibility and expecting the same of others. Were the stockholders of the contracted companies raping anyone? They will pay the penalty for a lawsuit. Why Joe Smith from Whoknowswhere, IA responsible for this action? I imagine that during your time in service you expected individuals under your command to take persoonal responsibility for their actions. If PVT Snuffy rapes a girl when he is on leave, is that the fault of the Army? NO. it is the fault of PVT Snuffy and only he should pay the price. I understand I am outnumbered on this website, as the majority of folks on here seem to want Uncle Sugar to take care of everything for us...from womb to tomb. And that anything that goes bad is not the fault of the perp, but bad enviroment, poor education...take your pick, but it is time for this country to MAN UP. Take the tinfoil off your heads and think things through before saying, "Damn GOP/republicans/conservatives...everything is their fault."

  • By CWO4 Gourley Usa Ret. on 2009-11-03 23:57:16
Josh I see the problem now! You don't know what this vote was about, it was so the woman could bring action against her rapists. please read up on the story. and you think it is ok to for KBR to imprison the woman if one of her gaurds had not let her use his cell phone lord knows what would have happened. I SAY AGAIN get smart on this story go to her web site or this site ... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jamie_Leigh_Jones................Now to summarize your position it's ok to let let the woman get gang raped, have the company illegally detain her, deny her medical attention, deny her the ability to go after her attackers in court.............. Keep the company on the government contractor list when it basically kidnapped her and tried to hush every thing up. Now how about if PVT Snuffy takes her into the barracks and the whole platoon rapes her? you don't think the army has some responsibility here? ( failure to supervise)......................................The only thing that you have said that made any sense in this whole exchange is your last sentence "Damn GOP/republicans/conservatives...everything is their fault." well maybe not all, but in this case it is ....................................................... As a matter of fact I had one of my soldiers try to rape one of my female troopers. After he got out of the hospital he spent 5 years at Leavenworth,I stopped the rest of the company from killing him (barely) Had I tried to cover it up and hope it would go away I would have been as guilty as the rapist and would expect jail time ...................................................................Again get smart on this subject, read up on it if then you still think these 30 are on the right side of this LET ME KNOW

  • By Oldleatherneck on 2009-11-04 00:23:05
I was a government sub-contractor to a government contractor; Eagle Support Services, a subsidairy of KBR, in 2004. When you sign for a one year contract you know up front you are signing away your rights with no legal recourse. You are an expatriot you are taking a risk in return for a very large tax free paycheck. You work 7 days a week 12 hr a day. No suprises, no guarentees. Are there abuses? Yes, are there injustises? Yes, are you at risk? Yes. Should it be different? Yes, but when you sign a contract you know what you are getting into. When I was there there had been 132 KBR truck drivers that were killed on convoys, and there have been many more since. Civilian truck drivers were not allowed to carry a weapon. Like I say it is risky, but there are no suprises you do it with your eyes wide open at your own risk.

The hammer MUST come down on these deviant criminals who raped, falsely imprisoned, kidnapped, drugged, terrorized and attempted to murder this young lady. The 30 Senators IMPEACHED for moral terpitude. What a disgrace these deviant miscreants are. The 30 Senators are accomplices to the heinous acts in that they sought to protect the degenerate perpetrators. McCain is one of the people voting against the bill. He wanted to be POTUS? We MUST throw the book at all involved. Jamie Leigh Jones has had her civil rights violated to the nth degree. My prayers are with her. May God give her comfort and solace. As for the nastiness of the (30) and the deviant degeneracy of the Contractor,They best hope that God will have mercy on their souls.

VA RAPE BY SENATORS
VA Complaint 1000 10/4/09
Peter Macdonald 465 Packers falls Rd Lee NH 03824 603-659-6217
My complaints do not even raise an eyebrow. The questions linger about laws and what place they take in our society. No one wants to see the truth only what can be rationalized to make it appear right in your eyes. The fact is that the Veterans Administration knowing attempts to murder a 100% disabled veteran with forcing the veteran to take medication that the doctor put in the record that it was killing the patient. The Average prescription re-fill takes the VA at least seven weeks to fill by mail yet the pills destroying my liver only took over night. I complained over one year ago that the VA stopped my medical care for combat related disabilities and that still has never been answered. One must look at the law that requires the VA to answer with in 24 hrs. One must look at if the VA has the legal right to stop medical care to stop the opinion letters of a disabled Veteran. The NH U.S. Rep Shea-Porter used my medical disabilities to control my free speech. The newspapers refuse to print my opinion telling the world the truth. I must be depressed. I must be in a world that I do not belong. There can be no rational explanation except that I do not exist. How can Shea-Porter be allowed to violate her oath of office and the law and a citizens complaint be ignored.
People do not want to hear a disabled Veteran Rant and Rave about something so miner as our freedom. My mind today is like in a deep tunnel. I keep dreaming of jumping off a cliff and landing on the top of a tree. Can one see death in a foreign country while driving down the street here only to wake up in a nation that you do not belong? The joy of the great things that I achieved in life must be questioned. I have a beautiful wife and three daughters yet people the entire time frown at my looks. I am financially secure and volunteer every day to help as many as I can but do it for selfish reasons. The pressure in my head is pushing out so hard yet the pain has become only a nuisance. I appear in perfect health only to have people question my mental state when I speak. I write letters every day expressing my thoughts only to have them vacuumed up to nowhere.
The VA and NH elected officials use the courts and law enforcement to harass and torment me to follow their commands. I stand on what belief has been instilled by other Marines in my head. It is like this convoy across Thailand, Laos and Cambodia can never end. Do I have all these wonderful things or am I stuck in the tunnel of death some place people that speak no American have killed me.
What happen to newspapers that have the ethical belief that the truth no matter who it harms must be told to the readers? What happen to the nation where the government serves the people? What happen to the country that the courts are bound by the Constitution that protects the people from government wrongs? How do I justify letting tomorrow come when today will never end.
No one wants to accept that some of us come back different. Can the truth be that we never really came back and this is the eternal life a U.S. Marine must endure for the way we protect the freedom of this great nation the United States of America.
Peter Macdonald Sgt USMC Semper Fi

If everyone is so tired of the government, then why are we letting them stay in office. We should protest and have a vote of no confidence. After that why don't we all put our money where our mouth is. I for one am going to run for some form of office, just have not decided what yet. Most Vets know what is wrong, and have at lest an idea of how to fix it. So I say we all fix it. I AM IN NO WAY TALKING ABOUT BLOODSHED AND VILENCE. We need to do this the right way, so we are not the bad guys.

USMC El Toro 10-5-09 Peter Macdonald 465 Packers falls Rd Lee NH 03824 603-659-6217 My first duty station after getting out of the Hospital (Injuries received in a car accident right out of boot camp) was El Toro Calif. I saw the barracks that I lived in and the building my unit worked out of on the Toxic Waste newsreel. One must ask why our government did not inform us to get cancer screening. My next 31 months was over seas during the Vietnam Conflict so the government secret about El Toro is just minor to all the other Toxic substances poured over our lives as U.S. Military. Slowly the U.S. has become centered on what the people can do for the government. Elected officials no longer get in office to help others it is to make the money. The honor of being elected to a club that can control other lives with deceit to pad their own lives. The perfect example to illustrate this point is the health care that our elected officials receive while claiming to care about all the people we elected them to serve. We elect the best and brightest as a prelude that it would take this part of society to insure that the people’s rights are protected. Greed and power always enters as the motivator for so few that grows as the good ones are eliminated. The checks and balances to stop such selfish greed by our elected officials over time have diminished as the People’s rights have. At 17 my life started at El Toro because forever my memory of any part prior to the car accident was lost because of brain damage. The newspapers select only the opinion that they deem right for their readers to see. A checks and balance eliminated that gave the public a chance to sound out about wrongs in government. Court power raises it’s ugly hand to scare the editors and public to obey or be harassed legally. Our government has separated into units as the “Blue Wall” “Congress” “ones with influence” “the Bar Association” and the list goes on. The newspapers are slowly being eliminated as a result of their willingness to protect those that dominate. The slow erosion of the people’s rights now reel’s over those that did nothing because it did not affect them at the time. People helping people dwindled out of fear that court action would break their own nest egg. Power made the rich get greedy and the slow elimination of the newspapers shows how the innocent will pay for their ignorance to speak. Freedom of speech is now at the hands of those with permission. Elections dominated by those that raise the most money allowing others to buy their future votes. Over time so many newspapers and businesses have in one way or another bought influence and ignored our checks and balances it became vote for which party will make the money as our leaders until the next election. We chose Democrat or Republican believing these people will do the right thing. Now the reality of our hopes has brought us Death. Revolutions are WAR. Death is a result of our doing nothing. In 1974 I came back from the over seas. Now my body inflicted with four life changing disabilities the Marine Corps dropped me into a society with no help at all. My only memory was as a US Marine. I killed before kissing my first round-eyed girl. My first duty station was El Toro Calif. can this as government health care is be an example of how our government has defeated us. We must ask can the editors see the need to inform their readers of the truth Peter Macdonald Sgt USMC Semper Fi

The pols probably equate this to some form of equality as they have been raping tax payers and voters for centuries and decided to throw in women.

India's Mahabharata is 2300 years old and the longest book in the world. If you have never read it this one verse sums it up nicely.

"Yudhishthira has a vision of the age to come: “I see the coming of another age, where barbaric kings rule over a vicious, broken world; where puny, fearful, hard men live tiny lives, white hair at sixteen, copulating with animals, their women perfect whores, making love with greedy mouths. The cows dry, trees stunted, no more flowers, no more purity; ambition, corruption, the age of Kali, the black time”

Being a victim of rape, I can tell you that there is a whole segment of our society out there that doesn't believe that rape is even a crime. I went to a couple of counseling sessions immediately following my experience and the counselor, a woman, told me to simply think about it as sex with a stranger. When I tried to explain to her that I didn't make it a practice of having sex with strangers and therefore that remedy was going to be hard to process, she scoffed and dismissed me by saying I should have a better imagination. Then she went on to prescribe rolling up the windows in my car and screaming (wouldn't want anyone to hear that) or banging a tennis racket on my bed. I don't play tennis.

The point I am making is that until rape is accepted as a crime by all people, there can't be a consensus on how to treat it or how to react to it. These Republican men are completely out of touch with reality in the world that the rest of us live in. They also have no desire to learn about our world. It's much easier to ignore and deny. My own family, some of my friends and co-workers and my boss had a problem with me after that happened. So I shut up and didn't talk about it any more. To this day, 30 years later, when the subject comes up, I stay silent unless I feel completely comfortable with the people I am with. I'm now 62 and would love so much to be able to share my story and my recovery with others who have suffered, but it's still not a subject many want to deal with, as proven by the vote of our elected representatives. Yes, the 68 who voted the correct way are heroes, but the 30 who didn't received the most attention. And so it goes.
