Hundreds of thousands of servicemen were exposed to asbestos over decades, especially during the period from 1940 to 1980. Asbestos was used in construction of naval vessels as well as shore facilities. All branches of the military used asbestos, which was also widely used in civilian applications. Asbestos can cause mesothelioma. Because this cancer has a particularly long latency period, many servicemen who were exposed years ago are now developing this disease.
- Mesothelioma Patient & Family Resources: Mesotheliomahelp is provided by Belluck & Fox, LLP as a comprehensive resource for mesothelioma victims and their families. The site provides up-to-date information on the latest news and treatment options as well as an easy to use search feature to find local mesothelioma doctors and health care clinics.
We fight for veterans harmed by asbestos: Veterans with mesothelioma or asbestos-related lung cancer should know they have options: the opportunity to bring a suit against manufacturers and sellers of the asbestos that caused their illness. If you were harmed by asbestos exposure, for example, in ships or military housing, contact Weitz & Luxenberg to get a free case review.
Important Information for Veterans: Asbestos products were often used on military ships and within military housing, and Veterans may have been exposed. Previous exposure to asbestos is the only known cause of mesothelioma, a fatal cancer that has no cure and affects countless Veterans and loved ones. Special Report: VA SECURITY ESCALATES THREATS IN LOS ANGELES

STALKING AND THREATS REPORTED
CALMER HEADS NEED TO PREVAIL
By Gordon Duff STAFF WRITER/Senior Editor
Few understand the root of the years old protest in Los Angeles, especially the VA security forces, often outnumbering the octagenarian protestors 2 to 1. Billions, yes billions, not millions, in land was donated for homeless veterans but is now being given to private schools, corporations and political insiders. Veterans who try to walk across their own land, try to sit and read a book or enjoy the outdoors are immediately arrested for loitering. If they were students at a posh private school or a rich Brentwood housewife, they could spend the day in peace. The issue at hand is discrimination against veterans.
Over the last couple of weeks, the veterans protesting, some in their 80s, have been confronted and threatened, first by uniformed Army Reservists and repeatedly by armed Veterans Hospital security. The facts are simple. Vets can protest on city land, on county land and on federal land as long as they are not a direct and immediate threat. Remember the abortion clinic protests that nobody could stop? Same laws apply to vets. If VA guards need to control protestors who are within their First Amendment rights, they need a court order showing a clear and present danger to the facility. No such order exists.
A protest for veterans rights has become an armed confrontation by VA guards who may now represent a clear and present danger themselves, a danger to the legal protest by aging and crippled VA patients, the people they should be protecting instead of working for local fatcats.
Were I a VA security officer, having to spend every Sunday racing up and down Wilshire Blvd. or sitting in my "Scooby-Doo Spy Van" filming a half dozen WW2 veterans, I would be mad. I would be mad at the idiots who put me on this detail, not the stubborn heroes protesting, not against the VA guards, but against the crooked local politicans who have been giving away Veteran land.
None of this has anything to do with VA police. There never has been one second of violence. There has never been a confrontation except when VA guards came off federal property and began armed confrontations with the WW2 vets.
Training SWAT teams to go after a half dozen old guys in wheelchairs has to seem totally insane.
If anyone out there in Los Angeles doesn't think Secretary Shensiki is aware of this, they are mistaken. He has been briefed on all of this and has seen every article written. Anyone who thinks he is afraid of Congressman Waxman or the wealthy homeowners in Brentwood is using bad judgement.
Every time something really dumb goes on out there, senior members of Congress in those nasty areas like appropriations and Veterans Affairs get on the phone. Please, make the call, check to see if I am kidding.
This is my suggestion:
Threats of violence made against Robert Rosebrock or other vets need to end. All surveillance and the following around the city has to come to an end. This is simply insane. We all know it, everyone knows it. This isn't a TV show.
It may be too late for security and protestors to make friends or start dating but I grew up respecting WW2 vets. I expect the same out of VA security officers.
For both sides, this protest has nothing to do with VA security. It is about politics. If VA officials are pushing police to confront protestors, perhaps endangering them, then be aware that acting on such orders is a violation of California law. If one of our vets is injured or has a heart attack because VA guards have come out of their jurisdiction to play "tough guy," there will be hell to pay. It is not going to be a VA investigation or a transfer.
We expect this:
VA security should be veterans themselves.
I expect trained professional police officers, not "mall rent-a-cops." No real cop would be running around playing Dick Tracy with disabled vets in wheel chairs
If VA police are acting as professionals, veterans themselves, and true to their real oath, to protect and defend the Constitution of the United States of America, they should expect to be treated with respect themselves.
The next time a civilian bureaucrat "weenie" tells one of you to "get tough" tell that jerk to go out there himself if he wants any "dirty work" done.
There is nothing worse than a veteran and police officer to have to run errands for petty Napoleon types. I know all of this very well. Even in these rough times when a paycheck stands between eating and not eating, a man can only take just so much.
SHERIFF DEPARTMENT'S RESPONSE TO VA POLICE CLAIM PARADE PERMIT IS REQUIRED
Please note: Examination of VA documents reveals directions from DVA Regional Director given to VA police to operate outside federal reservation without authorization and issue illegal citations. This is the definition of carelessness.
Dear Robert,
The sidewalk you are referring to is county property. However, you do not need a permit to demonstrate, only if you were to conduct a march that would impede traffic.
As they have in the past, West Hollywood deputy personnel will monitor the area, to ensure your safety and others, but cannot dedicate their complete time to just that specific intersection.
If you need our services feel free to call the station at any time, and you will have a very timely response.
If in the interim you have any questions, regarding the area of your demonstration, please call Captain Buddy Goldman at XXXXXXXXXX
Sincerely,
Tom Laing,
CommanderExecutive Assistant to Sheriff Lee Baca

I think kudos are order for "The old Duffer", Gordon Duff. He's provided a broad brush smorgasbord of information and knowledge on the "VA Land Grab" to the forefront. In the old western movies that I watched as a kid, the vigilantes would ride into town, shoot up the place, beat the editor half to death, wreck the old printing press, and ride out of town. All paid for by the big cattle baron that wants the land. Well sports fans, things ain't changed much. Duffers' indomitable spirit and unquenchable thirst for truth and justice, give this guy, a big nod from me...and I grade low...

My father and both grandfathers- between the three- have nearly 90 years of service to our country. I have two brothers, three nephews who also served honorably to preserve our great freedoms. God bless our Veterans for taking a stand to continue to guard America's liberty.
I want to be exceptionally clear in what I am saying here. I do not want there to be any mistaking my point.
Violence in great quantities is not far away if this government nonsense continues.
This kind of overt and aggressive "policing" of World War II and Korean War veterans who are exercising their rights to protest inherently unethical government intrusion onto veterans land which was ceded to them has the makings of a civil war catalyst within the situation.
Veterans will explode if this continues.
Trust me when I say this to you. Veterans will simply not stand for this. They will take matters into their own hands. PLEASE LISTEN TO ME if you are in a position to change things relative to this situation.
The "government" is wrong to stand in the way of the wishes of these very old veterans who are in the late winter of their lives. If this continues, very young and very capable veterans will take up the call to arms and this thing could get very, very ugly in very, very quick order.
This is exactly the kind of thing that ignited the Draft Riots in New York City in the summer of 1863 when the Irish were being drafted by the thousands to fight Lincoln's War. People were being abused by government decree.
This is the kind of government heavy-handedness and "policing" that ignited the Bonus Army rout and violence in 1932 with World War I veterans meeting armed soldiers with bayonets right here in D.C.
This is the kind of thing that got Viet Nam Veterans Against the War started.
"Government" means nothing if all it means to be is camouflage for the already too powerful blocks of citizens who control too much of too many government entities. This is going to explode if it does not immediate high level attention.
A word to the wise. General Shinseki, take this situation in hand personally. Now.
By Robert Rosebrock on 2009-11-03 14:04:24 Gordon and Tom:
The truth and facts have never been spoken more clearer and truthful than what both of you have written. Thank you!
If anyone thinks these Sunday Rallies are, well just a Rally, you are very sadly mistaken. The Department of Veterans Affairs, Department of Justice, the Westside Congressional delegation and political machine, and the homeowner group falsely fronting as a "Veterans" organization have essentially declared War onAmerica's elderly Veterans who are trying to save this hallowed ground for future generations of America's Veterans.
To underscored Tom's prophetic notice, John F. Kennedy forewarned: "Those who make peaceful revolution impossible, make violent revolution inevitable."
Join The Veterans Revolution to "Save Our Veterans Land." Everything else can wait, but protecting this land from the corruption of the VA bureaucrats, US attorneys, politicians and greedy homeowners cannot wait
Waxman is, oddly enough, not with us on this one. Though he has a great voting record on veterans issues, the homeowners group involved include many of his personal supporters.
Complicated.

It’s an almost unbelievable Real Deal
Research is correct and this issue is not just taking place in LA. I have a team of disabled veterans who are visiting different VA medical centers and clinics in each VA region.
Reports are coming in which suggests this activity is possibly a result of a directive from the central office in Washington DC. Much like the PCT units which were created in the mid 1990's, "to help PTSD Vietnam veterans. These units actually were causing PTSD veterans to drive away from the hospital and when they saw a blinking light, be it a vehicle turn signal or a traffic light, the veteran would go into a sleep state and crash.
I allowed a PhD PCT psychologist to in the Gainesville, Florida PCT unit to treat me. The treatment was to be hypnotized. Unbeknown to the doctor I had a small recorder in my shirt pocket. He clearly stated three times that "when I departed the hospital parking lot I was to drive in the right lane and to close my eyes when I saw any blinking light." He also stated, "Your pain will disappear". [End of recording].
When I got in van after the session I went to put the key in the ignition (something I could do in my sleep) and my hand froze one inch from the ignition. I felt very strange and almost vomited. I knew something was wrong so I listened to the tape recorder.
I then simply got out of my van and walked away to a bench under a tree and sat there for three hours until the sick feeling went away. I must have smoked a whole pack of smokes and I was sweating and my chest was tight. Once the feeling ceased I got back into my van and drove in the left lane and when I saw any light start to blink I turned my eyes away. Killing off Vietnam veterans guarantees total silence as dead men tell no tales.
Just last week I was in the VA Arecibo clinic on Puerto Rico at 0710 sitting in the chair to have my blood taken. I'm still confused by what took place. The nurse placed the chair armrest across my chest area and proceeded to insert the needle. Suddenly the small lab room door open rapidly and a huge 300 + male about 6'4" came barging in, lifted the phone receiver and placed it into the nurses other hand and he moved within three feet of me starring and very intimidating. I triggered as I felt I was being set up for an ass kicking by the nurse with the phone in her hand, the needle still in my vein and this VA employee gorilla ready to lay his fat ass on me.
I couldn't believe this was happening and it took every bit of mind control to just turn my head and look at the side wall. What the F was going on? In a reflection off a picture on the wall I saw her cradle the phone in her neck and she changed the blood tubes with the needle moving left and right. I wanted to act but I was actually trapped quite well in that chair and surrounde4d b y what I described. I waited them out and finally she removed the needle and I still didn’t move until she lifted the armrest and another patient entered the room. I slowly beat feet outta there.
Now I'm reading these reports of VA intimidation nationwide and I wonder, 'who gave this directive to attack us? In Jacksonville, Florida the police have actually intimidated Vietnam veterans to the point where the veteran is shot in the head and the police write the report that the veteran attacked them. This is real people.
Your article tells of it, my disabled veteran team is reporting incidents, and I have just experienced, for the second time, a VA employee who has tried to make me trigger.
How are we going to defend ourselves in these situations? If we defend ourselves we will be shot with a heavy knock out drug or shoot by a VA guard bullet and they will write a report which shows them to be justified. We have a serious situation here. I'm lost for a proper defense at this moment except to avoid the VA clinics and hospitals.
At least I am on record on this forum and if you don't hear from me and you find out I died at the VA cli

You need some help. I believe inpatient services in the mental health facility, and I mean this with all sincerity. Please contact someone and get the help you need. The VA is not trying to kill you, go there and get some help.

Nightflyer.
Josh is right. You and I know each other pretty well. With your usual brilliance, there are some signs of difficulties here.
I am concerned.

Gordon correctly pointed out how the VA police are citing Veterans for "loitering" on their own property. Two weeks ago when I was in U.S. court for "unauthorized demonstration," which was dismissed, there were other Veterans appearing for "conducting business" and "loitering." I was stunned at the pettiness of our U.S. government to cite Veterans on their own property, yet it is a short-cut thoroughfare for the wealthy westsiders to freely drive their M-Benz, BMWs, Jaguars, Ferraris, Bentleys and Rolls Royces through Veterans property, willy-nilly.
Trying to sell an old beat-up car to a fellow Veteran is considered "conducting business," in the foolish eyes of the VA, yet Richmark Entertainment Group, which is not a Veterans organization, features major plays, operas and symphonies at the Veterans Wadsworth Theater and conducts business regularly by charging exorbitent fees that only the neighboring fat-cats can afford. The VA itself conducted business by charging the public to play on the Veterans Gold Course and $200,000 has been embezzled, and nobody is going to jail.
Tom Barnes is absolutely correct in his assessment that this kind of abuse to Veterans and special privileges to non-Veterans is going to break open soon. Veterans are a tolerant and patient group and have become accustomed to getting screwed over ... up to a point. And when they see the elderly WW II and Korean War disabled Veterans being harassed and intimated simply because they too have had enough and started protesting to save this land, they will come to their defense. The "younger" Veterans, i.e., Vietnam and Gulf War Veterans, will win this land war, and win it big time over the domestic enemy, which is our own government, including corrupt politicians and greedy neighbors who have continuously pillaged and plundered this sacred land for their own selfish benefit.
The land at the Los Angeles National Veterans Home will soon return to its glory days as a safe haven for fellow Veterans to gather and be together and share their comaraderie with those who have borne the battle for the safety of all others. And they will no longer be harassed and intimidated because the really bad guys will be charged with fraud, conspiracy and other major crimes.
That "unauthorized demonstration" arrest is now subject to civil suit. It was a wrongful arrest, meant only to violate your constitutional rights and they all knew it, especially Hanoi Sharon.

Just a note to thank you for taking up this cause and keeping veterans apprised of that the VA is doing "TO" them. Keep up the great work...

This is not the first time our govenrment has taken our land away with special interest groups justifying the loss of freedom. Look at what happened to the American Indian.Years later a Federal Torts Claims Act named ´¨Feres Doctrine¨¨ stole our Constitututional Rights to protect ourselves as combat veterans from this evil doctrine allowing the governement to have soverign immunity over our healthcare. Combat Veterans cannot sue the government from malpractice caused by the abuses of federal employees. A perfect exzample was the VALA patients who came out and joined the Veterans Revolution on Sundays to voice their opinions on keeping VALA from private land deals and to protect the deed that was approved by Congress in 1888 were all told that if they protest this land grab that they would all be kicked out of the VALA healthcare system. These honorable men and women were told to leave the protest. Their Freedom of Speach taken away from the abhuses of VA federal employees. The very same Freedom that they all risked life and limb for they thmeselves do not have because of ´¨Feres Doctrine¨ The underfunding of the VA is all caused by Veterans not having their Constitutional Rights to redress gross criminal negligence. We have all been treated like 3rd class citizens once handed our honorable discharge. For all articles written in regards to the Brentwood VALA landgrab can be viewed on the cover page of Voice For Veterans Services (www.vfvs.com) in side bar location. Our Bill of Rights say.¨That No Leaders of Our Land or Kings of Our Lands will Create Private Domain such as in the case of King James. Our own military kicked its own disabled veterans off of Moral, Welfair and Recreational Lands in 1990 as they had special interest to privatise these lands for their own speical interest. VALA ishould be protected by Congress and those that say the Special Intrest Groups should prvail over Disabled Veterans Usage should all be all baned and bared from Congress or House Senate. Disabled Vietnam Veteran Robin Joseph Rustan (Rusty)¨ founder of www.vfvs.com Voice For Veterans Services
If that is true about the "false arrest", and I realize the assumption is based on the dismissal of the citation, perhaps some civil rights lawyer would be willing to take on a lawsuit. Most of us who are involved one way or another, don't necessarily have the funds to pursue one, but it seems like there must be a veteran somewhere who's a lawyer willing to take this up. Where's the ACLU when you need them?
