Hundreds of thousands of servicemen were exposed to asbestos over decades, especially during the period from 1940 to 1980. Asbestos was used in construction of naval vessels as well as shore facilities. All branches of the military used asbestos, which was also widely used in civilian applications. Asbestos can cause mesothelioma. Because this cancer has a particularly long latency period, many servicemen who were exposed years ago are now developing this disease.

Important Information for Veterans: Asbestos products were often used on military ships and within military housing, and Veterans may have been exposed. Previous exposure to asbestos is the only known cause of mesothelioma, a fatal cancer that has no cure and affects countless Veterans and loved ones. Special Report: Senator Coburn Blocking Vets' Aid - Will You Stand Up To Him?
Posted on November 05, 2009 by higgins
In a disgraceful move Senator Tom Coburn, is single-handedly holding up some very important veteran legislation. Sen. Coburn is trying to block S. 1963, “The Caregivers and Veterans Omnibus Health Services Act of 2009.” While this is a legal move, we think it is morally wrong for Sen. Coburn to hold up any veterans benefits during a time when our men and women in uniform are giving so much to our country.
After serving OUR COUNTRY I find this move to be VERY REVOLTING. Has this man ever served his country. We are the BACKBONE that holds us together ... let him tear it apart and he tears all of us apart.
I just checked out his website... it seems to go in circles... yes, no... Whatever, I'm sick of the whole damn fckg government... watching my husband get sicker and weaker so quickly... heart, diabetes... Agent Orange while getting royally f'd over by the VA. This is pissing me off... Big Time. I'm suppose to sit here and wait for the VA to do what's right...while my husband can't work... hoping we don't get thrown out with minor children... hoping he doesn't have a heart attack... with all of his heart episodes lately... Fck them all. They don't give a rat's ass about my family or the man that I and my children love that served honorably in Vietnam. It's all a game for them. I really don't want to be an angry widow. I'M MAD NOW!
By Patty on 2009-11-20 10:56:43 Do you understand that this bill provides caregiver benefits ONLY to those veterans injured post 9/11 and that Sen Coburn's concern is that excluding the WWII, Korean and Vietnam Veterans is taking us down a slippery slope?
He appears to want a good bill, not just any bill...
If your husband is receiving less than $3,200 from the VA for his Agent Organge related disabilities, you probably are not receiving the full amount.

Stand up to him? Yeah face to face... I'd love to.
