VA Hospital Issues - Complaints, Issues, and Concerns about the Veterans Administration Hospitals.

Shingles Vaccine

A few days ago at a VA clinic I asked about the availability of the new shingles vaccine that has been available since last year in private clinics. I was told that it was not a vaccine that they had access to. They called the Columbia, MO VA hospital and they confirmed this.

A large part of the research for this vaccine was done with VA financing and much of the testing was done using VA patients.

My question is: Why is the VA involved in developing drugs for the drug manufactures if these drugs will not be made available to war Veterans through the VA hospitals and clinics? What is wrong with this picture?

I just did some serious 'Googling' on this, bailyhat, because your post is the first I'd heard about this.

You may have done the same, but here's what looked like the more worthwhile sites and one interesting mention posted on a forum about storage and having to buy in bulk.

After going through about five pages and then jumping over five pages to the next five pages, these sites are the ones that had what looked like the best information, but nothing comes close to discussing the VA and this new vaccine.

Maybe one of our members can add some information.

vaccine and vygone

Last May 25, 2006 The FDA has approved the first vaccine for adult shingles. I am just not sure how it will go with the clinics and hospitals. Well, I had shingles a few years back and it was really horrible. Till i got this vygone on youtube which helped me a lot, after several treatments, the pain stopped after several treatments. I think its worth a try.

You can look at the above link or also go to this published by the VA back in Dec 2007.
