By Order of the State Defense Force Commander
At our last VFW meeting I mentioned that I’d started a sub-forum here on VT for state defense forces, and was given some odd looks, and then somebody asked whether I was speaking about militias.
I answered “no”, but that was because I had the impression that “militia” was used in the sense of a private, non-government controlled group with militant aims, possibly under arms. I think my perception of the meaning of their question was confirmed when I tried to explain what a “state defense force” was and somebody used the term “wanabe military”.
I don’t think that’s quite right, is it? Some, or most of the state defense forces have retired or former/prior military personnel within their ranks, yes?
So what’s my point here? I was sitting with a group veterans and few of them seemed to be aware of state defense forces.
Very few. What can be done about that?
This sub-forum is a beginning, but not enough.
I’ll keep the problem in mind, but for now I have a suggestion; how about I start a thread where you can post information about past work you’ve done under orders from your state defense force commander?
EDIT: I must have erred up there when I wrote "most" state defense forces have retired or former active duty in their ranks. It must be
all, yes? The commanders are all retired military, right? Or at least have some active duty on their record, right?
.
I hope that thread title isn't confusing or worse.
I just figured that any work one of y'all did as a state defense force member would have been authorized by the CO of that particular state defense force, right?
And that's what this thread is for, to let folks know exactly what kind of work you've done as a state defense force member.
