Iraq - War, Elections, Terror? Get in and give it to us straight!

Fake Desert Storm Veteran

I have to share this...first of all, I have never been in the military, but several of my family members have served honorably. It really bugs me to hear people claim to be war vets who aren't. Recently, one of my neighbors said he had served in Iraq with the 101st Airborne during Desert Storm as an intelligence officer. Something didn't seem right about his story...you would have to know this guy...anyway, I contacted Chuck Schantag at the P.O.W. Network and Chuck found out that this guy had served with the 101st Airborne but had never been to Iraq...he was stationed in Korea! During the entire Desert Storm war, he had worked at a V.A. hospital in San Francisco! Why would someone lie about serving in Iraq? Maybe I'm naive but i don't understand this mentality. Anyway, just wanted to get this off my chest.

I feel the same way about those that would try to pull the wool over the public's eyes, but I am wondering how any information could be obtained by anyone except the man himself or anybody he authorized to access his records.

Those records are protected by law from being viewed except when it is allowed by the ex-servicemember himself, or possibly law enforcement agencies. That record center in St. Louis is pretty strict about that, no?

Just curious.

Hope this answers your question.
