State Democratic Party Discriminates Against Party Members

RE: Nevada State Democratic Party Discriminates Against Party Members!

Letter from Jonathan MacArthur to the State Democratic Party

Good Evening Mr. Disney,
I need to register a complaint, and I wasn't sure where to do it. Your name was one of the few I recognized in a list of email addresses that I received from a supporter. I apologize if this isn’t issue your bag. But, I'd appreciate it greatly if you could steer me in the right direction.

Last Saturday, I became aware that the State Democratic Party maintains an online list of the Democratic candidates in this year's elections at ether following address: http://www.nvdems.com/go/candidates/. On advice from some attendees at Vicki Birkland's last bar-b-q, I checked it out. I discovered that I am not listed as a Democratic candidate for North Las Vegas Justice Court Department 3. My opponent, Chris Lee is prominently listed as the only Democratic candidate to that office.

Further, my race initially had three (3) Democrats and one Republican preceding the primary. Following the primary, only Chris and I remained. Neither I nor Maria Perez Avilez was listed. This is a non-partisan race, and I've been advised that the party does not endorse one Democrat over another in contested races. I believe that I am entitled to a profile on the Candidate list.

I've also noted that, in the executive and legislative branch races, that the candidates are ranked hierarchically. President, Congress, State Senate, Assembly, County Commissioners, etc… The judicial branch, however, does not appear to be organized that way. In fact, it's not even alphabetical. For example, the Henderson Justice Court race is listed first, ahead of even Deborah Schumacher, candidate for Nevada Supreme Court, Seat B.

But most disturbingly, the opposing candidates are not even placed next to each other. David Gibson faces Sandra DiGiacomo in the Henderson Justice Court Department-3 race, but DiGiacomo's profile appears four levels down from Gibson's. Elsewhere, Vincent Ochoa faces Cynthia Giuliani in Family District Court Department-K. Giuliani's profile appears fully 5 levels down from her opponent. This lack of organization rather suspiciously gives the reader the impression that there is only one Democratic candidate per office. Any voter seeking information on which the Democrats are this year before completing their sample ballot would not be aware that there exists more than one Democratic candidate in several races.

I would like this situation resolved in a manner that is equitable to my campaign and that of other effected candidates. Specifically, I should have a candidate profile, with the applicable bells and whistles, with haste. Further, that profile should be placed in the immediate proximity of my opponent, Chris Lee's profile. (My name occurs later in the alphabet, but I should be no farther away than next.) Lastly, the same accommodation should be made to DiGiacomo, Giuliani and any other effected candidates if they want it.

It's difficult to believe that this sort of thing could occur on accident. The speed with which someone at the state level party is willing to address this problem will be reflective, in my mind, of whether my party appreciates my many contributions to its efforts. Sorry to rant Robert, but you were the only person I could think of in a hurry.
