Congresswoman, I have received your letter dated 6/22/2007, with the response from Craig Moore in which he states my original claim for service connected disability was February 6, 1973. and was denied July2 1973. Because i failed to report to my ratings examination.I did not rmember that i even filed a claim at that time i called my mother to ask her and she told me that yes i had and at that time she spoke to a representative at the VA athat told her if i claimed a mental disorder at my age that i would have a very difficult time finding work so i was talked out of it , also my claim on September 25 2006 the congressional copy does not state 1973 as a denile date for nervous disorder (PTSD). the VA must have contacted he DOD to get this information they also know that i received my Pur;ple Heart because i was blown off a of an APC and knocked unconscious with abrasions and lacerations and never did they mention TBI. i was sent back to the jugle in 3 days.I spent 3 day,s on river ambush with 3 others including my lieutenant first time we threw a concussion grenade in the water at night and pulled in bodies in the morning we would drag them on shore one was a young girl with rice bags on her back when we pulled her to shore some of the senior NCO,S would take branches and poke her in her privates and mouth and tried to beat off her breasts. On another day we would set up claymore mines as we went down the river and would retrieve them in the morning Sergent Roger Barts went up to the bank to dismantle his mine and it went off cutting him nearly in half and shooting bee bees into everyone on board myself and another had climed up the bank to get his body all i could do was give him morphine i found out a few hours later he had died.We had set up a night defensive position for the evening sometime in the night we were attacked by mortar, rpg and small arms fire i was sleeping in a bomb crater full of water with PFC Harry Harden we awoke under heavy fire he said he was hit in th back i could not see any wound it was too dark , then my lieutenant grabbed me and told me there were 2 men hit by rpg he pointed in the direction i grabbed my aid bag and the lieutentant hid behingd the apc , i found my way to the two soldiers again it was dark to see the extent of the wounds so i tied large bandages around both of there faces so they would not move there eyes and create more damage i helped carry them on either arm for about 50 yards under small rms fire and rpgs fo the command track so they would be dusted off by medical helicopter/we came under attack while on patrol and we chased the enemy by following blood trails and you can actually smell the blood in the jungle we came upon two nva wounded one was about 15 years old and the other looked to be a family member the young one lost part of his foot as soon as i tried to treat him a Sgt put him in a prone position and wanted to shoot him in the head i intervened and the Sgt put his M-16 to my head and asked if i wanted to be first some other troops calmed things down and i was able to bandage and get the young vietnamese on top of an apc we drove for about a half a day looking for more nva, i was soaked in blood trying to keep his foot elevated, finally a medivac came in and dusted him off later i found out that they had thrown him from the chopper.Another evening we drew fire in the jungle and called in a cobra gun ship the next morning we went to the sight and found some fresh graves i was ordered to dig them up and watch out for booby traps i dug up what looked to be pats of 3 bodies the lieutenat called in three deuces i guess that meant 6 kills. After another firefight in the evening we were on another body count hunt and a couple of soldiers would take the bodies with rigamortose take thier pants off and put them on top of each other as though they were having sex and stuck a cigarette in there mouth. It was not unusual to bring village girls into a fire support base and gang rape her also by senior staffI cannot fit in a years worth of history but i have to tell you that i am very tired of living with this inside of my head 38 years it will not pass i plead the government to please help our returning troops they are so young and they WILL be damaged for the rest of there lives. Vietnam Veterans do understand we of all must continually press our representatives to take action now do not give up when you are angry and have all of this shit going through your head sit down and write until the spirt passes his hand over our eyes and finally allows us to sleep in peace.john Z Stawarz
