I own a small cutting tool sharpening and repair shop in Milwaukee WI. The business is sixty five years old but, it won't make it's sixty sixth year if I can't find help.
I am the second generation in this business I took the helm in 1989 and , have been going around in cicles ever since. I needed working capital so I did what any person would do if they had a back injury. I went to the SBA because they had a program called the handicapped assisted loan program which was set up by an earlier Congress who felt it only right that people feel useful and pay taxes instead of using the tax dollar to just servive.
After filling out all the paper work neccessery for this loan I met with an irate SBA loan counselor that told me all I would do with the needed money was to spend it and, I thought that was what working capital was for to help your business grow. Then in all there wisdom a new Congress in 1995 stopped funding all direct loans under presser from banker lobbyist I believe.
It seems that I have been fighting a one man up hill war since 95 to get these programs refinanced by Congress. I have found that if there is only one vote at steak they don't want to hear it so I am looking for help; I can't do it alone.
These programs are vitally important and wounderful tools for veterans and people with a disability who want to remain or become independent. Maybe if enough veterans write their Congress person and let them know that there is a real need for these vital programs our tax dollars will do some good instead of helping large corporations leave this country.
Sincerely,
