Geneva-III Talks Suspended by Pro-Saudi Syrian Dissidents’ Preconditions
TEHRAN (FNA)- Secretary-General of the National Coordination Committee for Democratic Change Mahmoud Marei blamed the Syrian dissidents for the suspension of the recent peace talks in Geneva.

“The main reason for the decision to suspend the talks by UN special envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura was the preconditions set by the Syrian dissidents residing in Riyadh,” Marei told FNA on Friday.

He, meantime, pointed to the weakened role of the foreign backers of the terrorists who play the role of antagonists in the settlement of the Syrian problem following the recent victories of the government troops in the war against the terrorists, and said, “The Syrian army is advancing and gaining good victories against the terrorist groups which will influence the peace talks and prevent other countries’ interference in Syria.”

His remarks came two days after UN special envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura  announced a halt to the Syria peace talks in the Swiss city of Geneva until February 25, arguing there was “more work to be done.”

Syria’s ambassador to the UN, Bashar al-Jaafari, who has represented the Syrian government in the peace negotiations, blamed the opposition for the “failure” of the Geneva discussions.

Meanwhile, an international donor conference for Syria, co-hosted by Britain, Germany, Norway, Kuwait and the UN, started in London on Thursday.
